Brock and Money in the Bank

Scott:

What about Brock winning MITB? The idea of The Beast Incarnate spending a month or two stalking Rollins seems to good to pass up. Which, of course, means WWE will have Reigns win the briefcase. But seriously--Rollins could sell that kind of paranoia like no one else on the roster, and Brock cashing in could just loom over everything....

You, as always, are a huge slut, and your blog is my first stop every morning. Thank you.

Brock destroying Kofi and taking his place in the ladder match, then letting everyone kill themselves before storming out and F5'ing everyone in the match to claim the briefcase would be GENIUS.  Can you imagine how much the champion would be pissing himself knowing that Brock could literally come down to the ring and kill him any time he wanted?  That being said, two weeks of build for Brock would be silly, so it won't happen.  But that's not to say Brock won't just steal the briefcase from whoever and declare it his own property.

The scenario floated by Dave and Bryan last night, which I also like, is Roman winning the briefcase (because, duh) and Ambrose winning the World title for realz in the main event, only to have bestest buddy Reigns go heel and beat the shit out of him to cash in.  That would rip the hearts of the crowd in the best way and probably get Roman over once and for all.

Comments

  1. Both good ideas.

  2. Yeah, I must've missed all those times that previous babyface champs went around for months talking about how much better the new guy is than they are. Warrior had the opportunity to a draw for the company. He just wasn't good enough to do it.

    ReplyDelete
  3. He was punching punching mitts with Warriors face on them ad he was running down the beach.

    ReplyDelete
  4. The briefcase does nothing for Brock.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Roman stabbing Dean in the back with the briefcase would be the single-most interesting thing he's done since the Shield split. The three-way that it would set up for the next PPV would be bananas.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I just looked at the MITB participants and realised I'd completely forgot Randy Orton existed. Where's he been?

    ReplyDelete
  7. Creative had nothing for him.

    ReplyDelete
  8. This was sort of similar to Orton having the briefcase. People knew he was a devious person and could cash in at any moment.

    ReplyDelete
  9. The only time I really felt a human connection with the Ultimate Warrior was his Hall of Fame speech.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Sorry for not being clear here. I meant Hogan in late-day pre-NWO WCW. Of course he was a massive draw otherwise! I'm one of the biggest Hogan fans here.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Did this guy just call Scott a huge slut?

    ReplyDelete
  12. I'd love to be a fly on the wall when someone tells Brock he's responsible for carrying the briefcase around when he travels.

I don't know, I think it would really make his outfits POP.

    ReplyDelete
  14. The main event the past two months.

    ReplyDelete
  15. It does something for the shows though.

A legit "when will Brock show up

    ReplyDelete
  16. That Reigns cash in would be all types of awesome and actually make sense with Reigns feeling that the only way to succeed is to betray his friend, just like Rollins did to steal the title from him at WM31. Reigns shouldn't ally himself with the Authority, though. He should hate Rollins with every fibre of his being, but he is now only looking out for himself, sorta like Diesel for the rest of his WWF run after losing the belt to Bret.

The WWE's main event scene could genuinely be defined by the relationship dynamic between Ambrose, Reigns and Rollins for the next five or so years. "The leader" Rollins turns heel due to selfishness and opportunism, "the muscle" Reigns turns heel due to bitterness and envy and the "loose cannon" Ambrose that everyone thought would turn heel is actually the last good man standing because he'd always been honest about who he was and just wanted to fight.

They could fight and team in all sorts of combinations for years to come, until five years from now and a new unstoppable force/faction is wreaking havoc on the promotion, and the only unit capable of doing anything to stop them finally put aside their years of differences to unite under a common cause.

Probably won't happen like that, but at some point (probably sooner than it should be) the three will find themselves alone in the ring together, one will put their fist out and the other two will reciprocate and the roof will blow off the fucking place.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Honestly, I thought Reigns was going to turn on Ambrose last night.

    ReplyDelete
  18. They're not going to waste one of Brock's limited matches unannounced on a random episode of Raw.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I just wish they'd get rid of the stupid surprise cash-in element altogether.

    ReplyDelete
  20. You're shitting me? I mean more in terms of recent weeks

    ReplyDelete
  21. And imagine how the belt will look once Prince Pretty gets to bedazzle it...

"Actually, guys, I just want to wrestle...I don't need a belt" says Samoa Joe when offered a title shot against Breeze.

    ReplyDelete
  22. If this was all real, wouldn't the first ref let the pin stand? Rollins, like a dick, got him knocked out, why not spite him and let the title loss count? A similar argument could be made for the ref in the WM9 match between HBK and Tatanka.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Thank you!

Having guys win titles just to lose them a few minutes later is one of those "creative" things that never go over as well as planned.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I honestly like the idea of Reigns having the MitB breifcase and just sitting at ringside for all of Rollins's matches for like three straight months driving him crazy.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I love the Reigns idea. Reminds me a lot of Bobby Roode's initial title win over James Storm. He couldn't get the job done, his buddy wins the title, and then he has to take the short cut to finally win. Could run with a hot Shield feud throughout the summer.

    ReplyDelete
  26. That...is pretty much exactly how the Shield should reform.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Really? I love it. When Rollins ran out at mania, I lost my mind.

    ReplyDelete
  28. But if one is always worrying about what's going to happen next, how can they ever enjoy what's happening now?

    ReplyDelete
  29. People (Keith in particular) have gotten soft with match ratings in recent years...probably cause they're so happy to get something that doesn't flat-out suck. I mean really, by Scott Keith's ratings, this Cena/Owens match was as good as the HBK/UT HIAC match. Um...yeah.

    ReplyDelete
  30. This is honestly awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Reigns wins the briefcase, scouts Rollins in this fashion, scares Seth into shitting the bed against Brock, then Reigns eventually uses MITB to get another 1-on-1 with Brock.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Well you see, Naomi had a legit claim to being #1 contender, so they packaged her with dead weight Tamnia and completely buried all her legit complaints under "evil." So then the Bella were LESS evil...or something

    ReplyDelete
  33. Loved last night's Cena-Owens match. The most surprising thing of all? Owens didn't heel it up in the ring.

That match was booked athletically. Two guys hitting moves, kicking out of moves, trying new moves. Owens didn't do the repeated stalls/bail outs. Owens didn't powerbomb Cena on the apron after the match. Owens didn't gouge, stomp, rake, or push his elbow across Cena's face.

Owens won because he was the better wrestler on that night. Owens the wrestler, not necessarily Owens the heel, got over last night.

AND they had JBL the one backing Cena on commentary.

This whole thing shows a level of Cena-awareness that surprises me. They don't turn him...again, they found the three people in the crowd that were emotionally moved by the loss to show it on camera after the pin...but they also build the match around the fact that the crowd may cheer more for who faces him.

    ReplyDelete
  34. After last night, the only job Ambrose hasn't taken is Montreal. So, I will take that for MITB and the Reigns turn at Summerslam.

Then we get Ambrose pulling a Tim White every week until the Rumble.

    ReplyDelete
  35. It's super played out, and Rollins did the one thing that hadn't been done with it. It was cool, but what new ground is there with MitB.

It's been cashed in same day, at mania, during a match, fair and square, it's been lost to other guys after winning.

The "when will they cash in element just isn't that interesting anymore and is almost never Trully shocking. People predict it will happen at EVERY show now.

    ReplyDelete
  36. MaffewOfBotchamaniaJune 1, 2015 at 1:38 PM

Summerslam 2013 was great and gave us the Bryan vs. Authority feud, I don't get your point.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hell, Earthquake even made his debut by attacking Warrior in that great 'guy out of the crowd' pushups segment. Blow that off a year later with Warrior vs. Quake at Summerslam, then do the whole Hogan vs. Earthquake feud on the house shows in the fall.

    ReplyDelete
  38. This is completely the play.

They'll never do it in a gazillion years.

    ReplyDelete
  39. No chance in hell

    ReplyDelete
  40. I felt it when Sherri begged and pleaded on her knees at the RR, asking for a title-shot. When he turned her down, though, I lost that connection.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'm surprised Vince didn't book Savage/Sherri to win at WM6 just for the sake of putting one of his guys over an NWA mainstay.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Below I commented on how there are no new cash-ins but upon further thought there are two that I can think of, both involve getting a title shot independently while holding the briefcase.

1)challenges for title, gets himself disqualified but weakens the champ enough as a result that he wins an immediate cash in

    Or

    2) becomes champion while also holding money in the bank. Loses the title then DEMANDS an immediate rematch. The original champion may win or lose here depending on a vareity of factors.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Yeah, but you can fool most into thinking he might.

Heyman coming out to Brock's music every few weeks just to remind everyone Brock is lurking would be great.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Creative has nothing for Orton, Wyatt, and big show (not complaining), but they have stuff for Dallas and Truth. Creative needs to get their priorities straight pal!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Everything except the very end of the build for Bryan from sumerslam to mania 30 was garbage.

I get they salvaged it for an awesome story at mania, but overall having your best story be a meta commentary on how shitty you are at providing stories your fans care about is awful.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I guess you're right, but I think it adds intrigue since there's always that chance of a cash in. But at this point, it has been done so much it loses something.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Threadjack, and I'm sure once it's confirmed it'll be on the main page, but apparently Tommy Rogers was found dead this morning. My friend texted me as he was listening to Meltzers radio show.

    ReplyDelete
  48. It's been diminishing returns since Edge did it. Which was amazing.

It's also like the only way new guys ever get to win a world title these days. Watching someone finally overcome the mountain through hard work is a way more satisfying than guys getting a fluke meaningless wins all the time.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I don't think anyone says that is the sole reason. The dude didn't have any interesting feuds until he was going to lose the belt. I was a kid during this time so I liked him anyway and didn't even know if he was drawing or not. Scott already laid out the reasons why he didn't draw better.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Fred Rogers illegitimate son. The mother was one of the prostitutes from the neighborhood he frequented.

    ReplyDelete
  51. One half of The Fantastics tag team from the 80s.

    ReplyDelete
  52. He's showing more personality than ever before. And without him not sexually violating me with his push like pre -wrestlemania im (ugh) actually Enjoying his matches and his act. And Owens is the new top heel. Nobody wants Reigns clouding that up yet? Do they? Maybe down the road. But not now.

    ReplyDelete
  53. It'd never fly these days, but I always thought a suicidal character would be fun.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Idk. I enjoyed the match and thought the result was good. I'd like to see Owens kick more ass. I'm not really that concerned about him losing. I just want to see him booked similar to Vader in WCW back in the day.

    ReplyDelete
  55. danimalcrossing.comJune 1, 2015 at 1:54 PM

    11.

I wouldn't be surprised if he debuted a new neon fuschia shirt and tiny tower as well.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I've always maintained that the booking is a part of the star rating, it's an ending to a story you tell, if you tell the wrong ending to a good story, the whole thing suffers. Aren't matches essentially stories told via physicality?

    ReplyDelete
  57. We had one, but Shane decided to move on with his life.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Well, now we know who the original post came from.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Because pushing a wrestler you don't like is exactly like rape.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I always thought it would be a fun twist for a face to win MITB, earn himself a "real" title shot and declare he wouldn't use MITB out of principle, then lose and cash in anyway. Slow, shame-based heel turn ensues.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Slightly more random - bobby Fulton's webpage (forgot how I landed on it, but it was a while back when a friend and I were discussing them) looks like one of those mid 90's geocities things. it's great

    ReplyDelete
  62. That's actually what happened w/ Bryan, if I recall.

    ReplyDelete
  63. and I would have had Hogan's comeback match at Summerslam be against Rick Rude, a fresh match up that could have been awesome but the perception would still have been that it belonged on the undercard.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Wait, can you show us on the doll where Roman Reigns touched you?

    ReplyDelete
  65. I can't be the only 11 year old for whom that scene caused a slight below the belt stirring, can I? They always walked an interesting line with Sherri, as to whether you were supposed to find her sexy or not.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I only know them from recently watching old NWA ppvs on the network. They were pretty good.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Fast Eddie AlbertJune 1, 2015 at 2:32 PM

They could also play it exactly like WrestleMania. Have Brock-Rollins as the main event of Summerslam and have Reigns cash in during the match to make it a triple threat,
It's too bad they only have one match now. Before you could have one quick cash-in and one where the guy held onto it for months.
A MITB for the women maybe? They'd probably go all sexist and make it a purse instead of a briefcase though...

    ReplyDelete
  68. I think both SummerSlams sandwiching WM6 drew more buys--SS '89 definitely did. Though WM6 was priced higher so it still brought in more money. CCTV for WM6 was a disaster and it's hard to give Warrior a lot of credit for the live gate considering it sold out almost immediately, before a match was announced. WrestleMania in a wrestling-mad city in a brand new stadium considered the wave of the future as far as venues go...that's an easy sell.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I wonder if Cena met with a Make A Wish kid in the runup to Elimination Chamber whose wish was for Owens to go over

    ReplyDelete
  70. I would love Brock with the briefcase so much, if only because he could disappear for months and then all of a sudden.....

Would create an absolutely tremendous moment

    ReplyDelete
  71. In fairness, they seem to get most of the really big moments right. Bryan winning at WMXXX, Rollins cashing in this year, KO going over Cena. Of course, the opportunity is there to create many more big moments...

    ReplyDelete
  72. Totally agree. That program needed some sort of hot angle besides Rude working out--hell, the workout stuff wasn't touched on at ALL when they wrestled on SNME, so it was all for naught. Plus you had Rude cutting all these PURE SPORTS BUILD promos while Warrior is still blithering about the Power Cosmic, so that was incongruous.

The whole feud was just a mess. And that's before I get into announcing the SummerSlam cage match and THEN announcing a title match for SNME with the PPV already booked. Oh, and of course in that SNME match Warrior kicks out of Rude's finisher and Rude needs Bobby Heenan to save him from a sure defeat.

    ReplyDelete
  73. They really should have had Rude cut Warrior's hair, then. Or, since they were messing with his paint design anyway, have Rude attack him and rub the paint off. Do SOMETHING.

    ReplyDelete
  74. And then they went from "stopped giving a shit" to "actively hating the product" when the WWF started running the Gulf War shit on network TV.

    ReplyDelete
  75. With how rarely Brock shows up, he SHOULD get in the match and win, but they won't do that. To me, the MITB concept has jumped the shark.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Actually, if you wanna book this in a hilarious way, Brock wins MITB....goes to the back, and drags Seth out by his hair to the ring.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Great idea, but how does this help the Authority?

    ReplyDelete
  78. They could go all Ahmed Johnson win it too by having him tackle J&J Security through a locker room door to get to Seth!

    ReplyDelete
  79. I would make Rollins/Ambrose/Lesnar an elimination match. Have Heyman screw Lesnar midmatch get him DQed or counted out some way leaving people wondering why. They then should have Reigns celebrate with Ambrose for a bit after and then nail the shit out of him before cashing in to really drive the point home. Next night on Raw Heyman and Reigns reveal they were working together.

    ReplyDelete
  80. DUMP BROCK FOR REIGNS?

    You can write that explanation.

    ReplyDelete
  81. fun fact; after WM6 Wrestling Challenge never had Warrior on it even for interviews and Monsoon always put over Hogan with backhand remarks towards Warrior

even on the old Philly Spectrum shows Hogan would warn "Killer Kal" (Rudman) about turning on him...

or on Maple Leaf Wrestling he'd strike a bicep pose and Billy Red Lyons would throw his arms up and go reeling

    ReplyDelete
  82. If the Reigns cash-in happened, I'd like it best if Reigns tries to play it cool in the subsequent weeks, like "Hey Dean, you're still my bro. It's just a dog eat dog world yaknahmsayin?" But then we start seeing cracks of the real Reigns start to show.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Brock is a loose cannon that got himself suspended. Heyman manage the SST so has a connection to the Anoai family. Brock showed signs of fatigue at WM. Not the same dominance as before.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Fast Eddie AlbertJune 1, 2015 at 2:56 PM

Yeah, all the people whining about how Cena is going to get his win back right away...worst case scenario, Cena beats him because Owens gets too cocky and Cena catches him. They were teasing that finish a lot in the first match. Then have Owens go into a rage afterward and attack him leading to the apron powerbomb.
Really, whatever the finish is, I would imagine the apron powerbomb and medical checking on Cena as the announcers do the hushed tone of voice like Cena will never be the same is probably how the next match is ending.

    ReplyDelete
  85. i was all about Elizabeth's skinny sequence jeans at WM7

    ReplyDelete
  86. She was naturally sexy but they tried to ugly her up a bit with the weird makeup and shit. She got to show off her sexy side more in WCW. I had a thing for her during the Sista Sherri phase with Harlem Heat.

    ReplyDelete
  87. the bit forcing Brother Love to put a dress on was a bit creepy to

    ReplyDelete
  88. Why not put the IC Title on Ryback? Was anybody else in that match a better choice? Dude is over with the crowd, has improved in the ring, and perhaps most importantly, his title win feels fresh. Was anybody going to benefit from yet another Barrett, Sheamus, or Ziggler midcard title win?

    ReplyDelete
  89. "HE SAID NO! I'M GONNA-I'M GONNA GET HIM RIGHT NOW!"

    ReplyDelete
  90. Re: merch, I don't remember where I got it, but a Warrior shirt was one of the only non-action figure/VHS tape wrestling items I owned as a kid.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Earthquake, but they gave him to Hogan

    ReplyDelete
  92. No, no, NO.

Reigns is getting over just as he is. Don't screw him up and take away his momentum now just when he's putting it all together.

    ReplyDelete
  93. The problem is that you can't have strong heels anymore, because the audience invariably starts cheering for them. There are only two ways to build a heel anymore - one is to have them be a chickenshit pussy, and even then half the crowd cheers them anyway. Two is to book them as a whitemeat babyface (unless you're Sami Zayn or Daniel Bryan).

    ReplyDelete
  94. The guy is still lame as fuck IMO. He dropped that one line about getting some beers a few weeks back now every time we see him he's mentioning beer and "cold ones" with that dumb look on his face. I don't even think he's particularly over, pretty lukewarm really. Turn way overdue

    ReplyDelete
  95. Very encouraging result from last night, but, as others have alluded to, it's really what they do from here that matters. Tensai beat Cena relatively cleanly. Let's wait to see what happens in the rematch in two weeks. Rematch in two weeks = desperation on the E's part, which usually = LOLCENAWINS.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Ringwork, he is. Character, nah. He still sucks. A heel turn wouldn't be bad now.

    ReplyDelete
  97. The main event scene really needs a fresh heel right now and I think it would be too soon to put Owens there just yet.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Eh, Reigns is good as Ambrose's sidekick, but still shows very little personality. Right now he's like 1994 Diesel. Needs to show some new dimensions to his character.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Plus having some imposing heels such as Reigns and Owens wouldn't hurt. Brock is a face now I guess (?) so you might be able to throw him into that group too.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Face Reigns chilling at ringside with the briefcase with that smirk on his face week after week? Sounds insufferable!

    ReplyDelete
  101. Why not? He's already dumped Brock for Big Show.

    ReplyDelete
  102. They are smartly using Ambrose to get the crowd behind the guy right now. But I doubt that support lasts when a Reigns championship win looks imminent.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Brock wins the briefcase. Instead of celebrating, he climbs down the ladder, walks backstage, grabs Rollins and drags him down to the ring, and murders via immediate cash-in.

    ReplyDelete
  104. MITB Bra & Panties match. #givedivasachance

    ReplyDelete
  105. Ah, someone beat me to it.

    ReplyDelete
  106. He said he'd cash in at mania, then did it several months early on a friend. Granted all the cash-ins are starting to bleed together.

    ReplyDelete
  107. My 7 year old boy and I watched Undertaker cheat to beat Hulk Hogan for the WWF title the other night at Survivor Series on the WWE Network and he CRIED. "They CHEATED!!" He cried!

    ReplyDelete
  108. Adrian Neville, an injured Sami Zayn putting up a non-rookie-like fight, and now Kevin Owens beating him strong and clean, and Cena still has the U.S. title for maybe Balor to debut and win. Maybe it leads to a Cena "feud" with nxt? Or maybe he does some nxt shows to get that eye of the tiger? Maybe even with Bryan playing Apollo Creed while he's injured...

    ReplyDelete
  109. Was the cena/Owens match announced as as non-title defense? That's usually a dead give away an upset is about to happen.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Yeah, and HHH's cryptic comments seemed to foreshadow it, especially with the DQ stip.

    ReplyDelete

  112. Joey Jo-Jo Junior ShabbadooJune 1, 2015 at 4:09 PM

"Brock is a loose cannon that got himself suspended. What good is a beast that you can't control?"

This is the key. "Brock, you stopped listening to me. Don't you remember what happened the last time you didn't listen?"

    ReplyDelete
  113. Joey Jo-Jo Junior ShabbadooJune 1, 2015 at 4:12 PM

Vince, HHH, & Steph: YOU'RE HIRED!

    ReplyDelete
  114. Yeah, but it's still logical.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Brock should win MITB, just because you could repeat scenarios every few weeks of Brock's music hitting in the middle of a promo/match, and the champion damn near shitting himself in fear each time. And it wouldn't get old.

    ReplyDelete
  116. I'd start that as soon as possible... like the RAW after, Rollins comes out for an opening promo, opens his mouth to speak, and before he gets a word out... the music hits.

    ReplyDelete
  117. So, you're saying the Main Event at SummerSlam will be Brock going over Sid for the belt?

    ReplyDelete
  118. heck, you could give someone like Ambrose moments when they get into the production truck and play Brock's music/tron video in the middle of a Seth match - for no reason other than playing mind games and fucking with him.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Sami doesn't need to be a two-time champ.

Let Zayn get his vengeance on a main-roster show. The NXT fans watch both and the normal fans will be swayed by a video package.

Let Finn Balor/Samoa Joe murder Owens for the title ASAP.

    ReplyDelete
  120. I am aware that Wade Barrett is taller than Cena. He's a lot taller than Cena. He just doesn't 'feel' taller than Cena. That's my point.

Finn Balor has been in the ring with the big NXT dudes and he feels fine. That's also my point. He looked fine against the Ascension and he looked fine against Baron Corbin.

    ReplyDelete
  121. I can't decide whether he, the Rock or Triple H are the perfect incarnations of the "WWE Style"

    ReplyDelete
  122. Isn't Samoa Joe John Cena's friend?

Could they do like...Kevin Owens and Heel X vs. Samoa Joe and John Cena at SummerSlam?

    ReplyDelete
  123. His promos are stale and repetitive always talking about his passion and busting his ass ugh. However his matches are damn good to great

    ReplyDelete
  124. Exactly just ignore him hell go away

    ReplyDelete
  125. And again, blame Vince for that.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Well he's got good matches out of Khali, JBL, and Umaga. Your argument is invalid.

    ReplyDelete
  127. My argument that Cena is a great worker is invalid?

    ReplyDelete
  128. They announced it as champion vs champion. Pretty sneaky actually.

    ReplyDelete
  129. No. What's invalid is that he's this 1986 Lex Luger who is only good if someone is carrying him. The guy is more than capable holding his own. "But he does all the same moves". Newsflash EVERY wrestler does the same stuff. Hell even Dean Malenko didn't really bust out a 1,000 moves a match.

And again a big thing about being a great worker is being able to illicit a response from the crowd. Love or hate him, when Cena is out there he's noticed.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Ease up, fella. I'm on your side.

    ReplyDelete
  131. I would keep Owens with the NXT belt (at least until the duration of this feud/whenever he gets called up fulltime), just so the NXT champion is put over as an immediate threat to main roster stars.
