Cena v. Owens

Hey Scott, huge fan of your work. With Owens' clean win over the face of the company, where do you see Kevin going from here? With the rematch coming at Money In The Bank, I don't want a Cena win ruining his momentum.

Got a bunch of these e-mails about 5 minutes after the show.  And yeah, they've really booked themselves into a corner by throwing the rematch out there so quickly.  Ideally what you'd want is Owens running through a bunch of midcarders and doing the NXT title Open Challenge to mock Cena while he's injured and on the shelf until Summerslam and thus people will actually want to see the rematch.  Unfortunately what we're getting these days is a lot of desperation booking to compensate for ratings declining.  And another free month of the Network!  I'm pretty sure Owens will at least stay protected, however, and is now set for life as a top guy after that.  More importantly, they need to get the albatross of the NXT belt off him yesterday and give it to someone in developmental who needs it.

Comments

  1. If giving Cena the US title and having him beat everyone helped elevate the US belt, maybe they could give him the NXT title and have him beat everyone there.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Owens ain't losing the NXT title. When Sami finally beats him it'll be worth so much more since Owens is looking so good.

    ReplyDelete
  3. The NXT title is an albatross? Really?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Macklin, Man Without FearJune 1, 2015 at 7:15 AM

That Zayn news is unfortunate. 6 months is a long time, especially when he was rolling like he was and being booked real well.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Extant1979 - Extreme SuperstarJune 1, 2015 at 7:17 AM

The NXT Title will most likely go to Finn Balor or Sami Zayn, two guys who most definitely don't need it. In fact, you could bring both of those guys up to the main roster right now.

You know who needs that NXT Title? The rookie youngster Samoa Joe. Give HIM the NXT Title, have him show up on ROH TV with it and bash TNA. This is a brilliant plan.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I thought Scott was joking about another free month of the Network, then I see that they really have made June free as well. What the hell WWE?

    ReplyDelete
  7. Kevin Owens should be US Champion.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Since Owens has established the NXT Title to be arguably the second most important title in the company - thoughts on Owens vs. Balor at Summerslam for the title?

    ReplyDelete
  9. November 2014 was free
    February 2015 was free
    April 2015 was free
    May 2015 was free
    June 2015 is free

Of course, it's only free for "new subscribers", but five of the last seven months were free.

    ReplyDelete
  10. FIGHT OWENS FIGHT!

    ReplyDelete
  11. I'm not yet going to take last night's Owens victory as a sign that he will be the next big star. It would be awesome, but we'll have to see how he gets over on the main shows. There's a big difference between selling merchandise and getting over in front of an NXT crowd versus going out there 3-4x a week on the main roster. Remember guys, Tensai beat Cena clean as a sheet and we all saw what happened to him. I just hope that the casual WWE fan will get Owens over so he can eventually be a big player.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Extant1979 - Extreme SuperstarJune 1, 2015 at 7:31 AM

NXT Title should be defended on NXT. The only exception to this, I believe, should be WrestleMania.

    ReplyDelete
  13. So June is another free month for "new subscribers" to the Network.

I thought the whole point of stacking May with content and dangling Austin's podcast with Heyman and Money in the Bank in June was a way to get people to stay on.

Five of the last seven months have been free to "new subscribers." Only January (Royal Rumble) and March (WrestleMania) were not.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Can't help but feel that just saying "Your first month free!" is a better way of handling this than making current subscribers feel resentful every time other people get a "free month"

    ReplyDelete
  15. Extant1979 - Extreme SuperstarJune 1, 2015 at 7:32 AM

Seems as though the new pricing model is to give people a free month to try and lure people in. Going forward, I bet the free month will be almost all the time now.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Normally I'd agree, but they've got to get the belt off him but he's such a star now I'm not sure it would work to just do it at Full Sail.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I think, "set for life as a top guy," is a wee bit on the hasty side.

    ReplyDelete
  18. At this rate, I can't see the WWE Network lasting another couple of years. These free months are screaming desperation.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Exactly! But they can't do that because they don't want to make January (Royal Rumble), March (WrestleMania), and presumably August (SummerSlam) a free month because casual fans might just use 3 different credit cards to subscribe for those 3 months.

    ReplyDelete
  20. It is, in the sense that if you want Owens to be a big thing on the main roster, you don't want him pulling double-duty on a taped show (which has caused timescale clashes in the past) and you don't want NXT to feel like it's being put to one side.

He needs to lose it fast - but from something like a big collective of guys ganging up on him to make sure he's kicked out, to protect him. Then let him take out his anger at that on the main roster.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Guess we know how the Cena Challenge is ending.

    ReplyDelete
  22. But do they offer "Your first month is free!" for March or April (i.e. whenever WrestleMania falls?) I assume not.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Macklin, Man Without FearJune 1, 2015 at 7:34 AM

With him losing the U.S. Championship to someone?

    ReplyDelete
  24. I wonder if it would be beneficial to set a precedence of NXT guys just surrendering the title when they move up to the main roster. Then guys who are ready to make their debut on the big stage don't have to job right before going, and NXT can run tournaments, WHICH ARE AWESOME.

Of course it's not ideal for NXT, but theoretically NXT is only supposed to exist to get talent ready for the main roster.

    ReplyDelete
  25. It should always be free for new subscribers, like netflix. It isn't desperation per se, but the way they present it makes it seem that way. Just make it the standard.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Him and Itami both being out at the same time is a huge blow to NXT.

That's why I'm so amazed they still pushed Owens. He's more than ready, don't get me wrong (as is Balor), but it's going to leave the star quality aspect a little thin on the ground in NXT for a little while.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Damn you, Macklin, you beautiful, exotically gened bastard!

You saw right through my joke!

    ReplyDelete
  28. The last guys to beat Cena clean were CM Punk and Daniel Bryan. I'd say both of them ended up pretty good for the rest of their runs in terms of how they were placed on the card.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Extant1979 - Extreme SuperstarJune 1, 2015 at 7:35 AM

I mentioned it before, but I'm not sure I would have ANYONE pin Owens for the NXT Title. The man signed a main roster contract, no one was able to beat him for the title. He should be stripped of it, and allow for a tournament to crown a new champ.

Didn't they do that with Paige and the NXT Diva's Title? There's precedent.

    ReplyDelete
  30. It's supposed to be free for new subscribers, but I've gotten it free for some of the months and I've been a subscriber before.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I say fuck it, let's put Owens in the HOF tomorrow. Don't wait for the Mania ceremony, tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  32. They need to lock that down as well. Again though, that has do with their technology, not just throwing it out for free. Do you use the same payment type every time?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Macklin, Man Without FearJune 1, 2015 at 7:37 AM

Though I love being complimented I must move the conversation to a more pressing matter:

I see you've become Nikki Bella's # 1 fan. Does this mean I am free to ascend to my throne as the King defender of the King of Kings Triple H?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Punk and Bryan had several years of working on the main roster before they beat Cena clean. This is one match. One great match, no doubt, but still, one match.

    ReplyDelete
  35. It SHOULD just be "Free First Month to New Subscribers!", but WWE isn't going to do that for January or March/April because presumably a lot of people sign up just to see the Rumble or WrestleMania and then cancel.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Extant1979 - Extreme SuperstarJune 1, 2015 at 7:37 AM

I would give "first month free!" offers for eight months of the year - i.e., every month that doesn't include an original Big 4 show. January, March/April, August and November should never be free.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Perfect opportunity for Joe. Rumors are that WWE wants to add AJ Styles as well. They could easily sign a couple vets to hold them over for a few months and the ones that shine can stay with the company and the ones that don't won't get signed to full time deals. That's the beauty of having NXT.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Fortunately he only made a couple appearances. They can bring him up to 'debut' again and start with a fresh storyline.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yep. Same debit card. It charges me $9.99 for the free trials then puts it back in my account a week later.

    ReplyDelete
  40. They are in kind of a bind ... the only way around it I guess woudl be for Cena to run in and help Balor or whoever

    ReplyDelete
  41. You may have the throne. The circumstances leading to my name change led to me almost peeing myself from belly-laughing last night so I think I'm keeping this one for a while.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I'm not really sure they have a choice at this point. The toothpaste is out of the tube.

Fans aren't going to go back to spending $44.99 a month on something they were previously only paying $9.99 a month on.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Then they have to limit signing up per person... or say "every month except WrestleMania month" is free for new subscribers.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I'm still giggling over Bryan doing the "Feed Me More" chant and arm movements last night.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Why don't you want him to work NXT longer? Wouldn't him being a big deal on the main roster and going back to work NXT tapings through the summer help elevate NXT a little bit?

I really don't see him holding this title for a little while longer as this thing that has to be addressed urgently.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Yeah, if they're ever going to bring Styles in, now is the time.

Oh how I wish they'd just bring Nakamura with him. Just as a "visiting superstar" for a month or two.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Yeah then they need to sort that out, but it is different from just making it free for all.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Any backstory on the new name change?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Macklin, Man Without FearJune 1, 2015 at 7:39 AM

    Explain.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Right, but because it's a bit of a niche product with a limited user base, they can't afford not getting people to sign up from jump, as opposed to Netflix.

I get you, in that the streaming model should work like this, but since their appeal is limited compared to the bigger stream sites, handing out free months is not the best strategy.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I'm not saying his a main eventer 4-life, but a clean win over Cena is about the highest level of prestige a WWE guy can reach.

    ReplyDelete
  52. There's still 50,000+ people that still buy traditional PPV. I think they could easily go back to the traditional PPV route and not take that big of a hit. Sure the first couple of shows might have low buyrates, but they'll recover.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I like the idea of not including Mania in the standard subscription.

If you have subscribed for six months plus can get it for like $20; everyone else, it is regular price.

    ReplyDelete
  54. can I also add how shocked I was that Jerry Lawler actually talked about wrestling Owens in the past?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Yeah they need to fix that. People will complain when your "free" product isn't free, and it really needs to be done upfront.

    ReplyDelete
  56. The taping schedule is the big problem. You tape NXT every four weeks, right? Therefore you either have to address booking for the main roster in advance a little, or it just looks weird that he's not reacting to anything whatsoever outside of NXT while he's appearing in both rosters.

It's more complication than it's worth to keep him as NXT champ AND have him on Raw every week. It'd be cool, don't get me wrong, but I think it would be too much for creative to keep consistent in their approach.

    ReplyDelete
  57. It is a free month with the hope they like it enough to stick around. Better than people just not even trying it at all.

    ReplyDelete
  58. WWE will probably go after some ROH guys as well. It's crazy to think that ROH is essentially an NXT developmental.

    ROH --> NXT --> WWE

    ReplyDelete
  59. Macklin, Man Without FearJune 1, 2015 at 7:41 AM

I'm amazed they didn't keep Rumble and Mania off the Network to begin with. but I ain't complaining.

    ReplyDelete
  60. And like someone said, Tensai beat Cena clean very early on his WWE career. Now I'm not comparing Owens to Tensai. He's a better wrestler and has a better gimmick and can certainly reach the audience better than Tensai, but it's one match and let's leave it at that until he's done a bit more.

    ReplyDelete
  61. PPV is all but dead though. They'd be going back to a sinking ship.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Extant1979 - Extreme SuperstarJune 1, 2015 at 7:41 AM

Or more than likely, Samoa Joe, because having John Cena come down to Full Sail would be really weird. The problem with Owens signing the main roster contract is that they JUST introduced Joe and had him have massive stare downs with Owens.

I want to see Joe-Owens. I want to see Owens forfeit the title to set up a tournament, too. I'm really in a bind over what the best way to go is. Although I think Owens actually losing the NXT Title is the worst of the options.

    ReplyDelete
  63. There's an obvious way to bring him in, now, too. If Owens gets booked as a killing machine for a few months, Sami could be the hero to hand him his first proper defeat on the main roster. Would be a perfect cyclical ending to their story so far.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Giggling that he can still move his arms?

    ReplyDelete
  65. ROH's become the new ECW in that way, hasn't it? Not that this is a bad thing.

They should get Drew back in. I think he - with a reboot - would be great on NXT.

    ReplyDelete
  66. They could swing it for Mania and maybe the Rumble and SummerSlam, but no way for the other shows.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Macklin, Man Without FearJune 1, 2015 at 7:43 AM

I don't think it's necessarily dead. Create a product people really want to see and they'll pay to see it.

    ReplyDelete
  68. the only other problem is you don't want to get too far down the road with a guy being "undefeated" because it almost never works out. So maybe having him eat a pin to drop the title wouldn't be so bad just to get that out of the way. After all, he's a heel and in the end they are supposed to lose.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Somebody expressed disappointment that Nikki Bella might break AJ's longevity record. I pointed out "whatever, it's just AJ." Someone who shall remain nameless took great offense and freaked on me for about fifteen minutes on various posts. Bayless chimed in that AJ was overrated. The nameless one than proceeded troll the shit out of Bayless for like 45 minutes about he's pro-Bella and anti-AJ and just generally bugged out in really entertaining manner.

    It was amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Have to admit they've suckered me right into keeping my Network subscription a few times now. Was ready to cancel after last night's show before I saw the Austin/Heyman thing and MITB in 2 weeks. Fuckers.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Down below lol.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Theberzerker, #1 HUSS CHOMPIONJune 1, 2015 at 7:43 AM

Poor Sami. Oh well, at least we know his main roster debut is official and imminent. And if they continue the Owens rivalry when he does, hot damn! They'll both be shunted into a 14 man ladder match at Mania, of course, but up UNTIL then...

    ReplyDelete
  73. So they are doing MITB in two weeks after doing Elimination Chamber last night? Let's see who else ends up injured...............

    ReplyDelete
  74. I think people would grumble but they'd still pay. Are people really willing to miss Wrestlemania? There's hundreds of thousands that would definitely still HAVE to see the show live. Maybe they could air it on the Network a week later.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Yeah, I'm really looking forward to the Austin/Heyman podcast tonight. Should be absolutely excellent.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Yep!

UFC and Boxing still are doing fine on PPV. WWE would be fine as well if they went back that route.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Macklin, Man Without FearJune 1, 2015 at 7:44 AM

At the risk of getting in trouble with Lord Voldemort, I agree with Brian. AJ contributed to me quitting on RAW in 2012 when she skipped all over the damn show in the summer.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Extant1979 - Extreme SuperstarJune 1, 2015 at 7:45 AM

    Just don't call him undefeated.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Live threads. Tremendous. We should charge entry to these things, make a killing

    ReplyDelete
  80. With the number of entertainment options available, plus the speed by which you can get things (both legally and not), PPV is a dying industry.

Even if they went back, they'd have to give up an even greater cut than they did before (the way the cut from PPV and by not that much being on PPV), and it just may not be financially viable.

You still have UFC, and the occasional boxing matchup, but it's nowhere near where it was 15, shoot even 10 years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Correlation, Causation, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  82. AJ was fine but those that make her to be on the levels of say, Trish, are delusional

    ReplyDelete
  83. Call me optimistic, but I think Owens destroys Cena at MITB, and gives the powerbomb on the apron. Cena leaves for a bit to sell it and they do the real re-match at SummerSlam.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Yeah, I think she's overrated as well. She was built to go over everyone, but I didn't see her as that good, TBH. More like Justin Credible.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Blessing in disguise for Rusev? He was on a road to nowhere with the Lana break up story.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Fantasy booking: A cool way to end the MITB PPV would be to have Reigns win the briefcase earlier in the show then help Ambrose win the WWE title from Rollins in a No DQ match of sorts. Ambrose and Reigns are celebrating post-match when Reigns spears him and tells the referee to ring the bell. Reigns pins Ambrose to win the title. Rollins and Ambrose both have automatic rematch clauses setting up Reigns (c) vs. Ambrose vs. Rollins for the WWE title at Summerslam.

    ReplyDelete
  87. They should not do the rematch at MiTB. They can revisit that later. Let it build

    ReplyDelete
  88. Owens vs. Lesnar at wrestlemania to break all the records.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I can't believe the same guy being a dumbass caused two name changes for me lol.

    ReplyDelete
  90. And Lawler actually beat him! (The match is on DailyMotion).

Lawler's pretty much beaten every wrestler from the last 40 years at some point -- Hogan, Savage, Flair, Bockwinkel, Funk, Kerry Von Erich, Ventura, Undertaker, Sid, Hall, Steen... and so on

    ReplyDelete
  91. It reminds of the interactions between Christian and Rhyno during RECK.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Can't believe they already announced the rematch! You have a built-in excuse with Owens as NXT champion that he could avoid him for months...and you had Owens give a big post-match promo saying that he "finished" Cena.

Any monkey could book the rematch after months of Owens refusing to wrestle Cena again, until Cena somehow forces it to happen.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Macklin, Man Without FearJune 1, 2015 at 7:51 AM

AJ was inoffensive as a wrestler but everything about her character after she split from Bryan just wasn't good.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Hey, I'm on your side. I'm just thinking from the WWE perspective.

    ReplyDelete
  95. One more thing, re:Netflix - people sometimes forget that they're still doing the disk service and that streaming isn't their bread and butter. They can afford to do a free month of streaming because their model is really convenient, and some people go for both the streaming and the DVD route. WWE doesn't have that luxury.

    ReplyDelete
  96. True, Owens already proved he is a better man. Plus he is a dick so why would he want to give Cena a rematch right away?

    ReplyDelete
  97. Hopefully it's a prematch angle a la Jake-Steamboat.

    ReplyDelete
  98. WWE does have rights fees, traditional PPVs and DVDs as well, just not tied into the same service, but still a way to consume their product,

    ReplyDelete
  99. Macklin, Man Without FearJune 1, 2015 at 7:53 AM

People still get discs from Netflix? Whaaaaaat?

    ReplyDelete
  100. Maybe Rusev can finally wear some fucking boots now.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Macklin, Man Without FearJune 1, 2015 at 7:53 AM

Although let's hope it turns out better for Cena than it did for ol' Steamer.

    ReplyDelete
  102. The "new" releases, anyway. Some people still don't have high-speed internet.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Another payday.

    ReplyDelete
  104. He'll come back in six months with a mohawk and a chip on his shoulder, fella.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Aye, you can see how it's deflated some peopl..
People didn't even get a chance to really enjoy the Owens victory before they
made people think "Aw fuck, he's getting his win back in two weeks."

    ReplyDelete
  106. Macklin, Man Without FearJune 1, 2015 at 7:54 AM

    Candy bar double entendre?

    ReplyDelete
  107. No. And WTF are you doing here this time of day?

    ReplyDelete
  108. I still think putting the belt on Dean would have been fine for two weeks and lose it back to Rollins at MitB or whatever. Like give him a legit reign and not just have the belt in hostage.

    ReplyDelete
  109. I think they use the old Bruno formula. Lose the first match, no contest on the second (and possibly third) match, then have the hero go over. If that is the end game, then Cena wins at Summerslam. I can totally see Cena costing Owens the NXT Title to Samoa Joe and Owens doing the same to Cena with the US Title (to whoever), so you don't have to worry about Kevin holding a shitty secondary belt. It also allows Cena to go over which almost guessing is where the story is probably headed. Owens gets introduced with a big win, hangs with Cena in a few more matches, then loses to close things out.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Macklin, Man Without FearJune 1, 2015 at 7:55 AM

Had a hell of a time trying to sleep last night. Feeling like an insomniac, it's hella whack.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Works for me. I didn't even bother with May, so I signed up again with about 10 hours of new lukewarm content to look forward to!

    ReplyDelete
  112. People still say "Hella"?

    ReplyDelete
  113. I didn't know Hogan and Lawler ever wrestled. It appears to be from pre Hulkamania and the match ends in a DQ with Jimmy Hart interfering. Strange set of circumstances.

    ReplyDelete
  114. I'd rather Ambrose' first title reign last a bit longer than two weeks lol

    ReplyDelete
  115. Depending on the type of broken foot, that's a major injury that could cause a lot of problems down the line if it doesn't heal properly.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Dean's already had his one PPV pinfall win fro this year, Mikey

    ReplyDelete
  117. Macklin, Man Without FearJune 1, 2015 at 7:56 AM

I'm doing it ironically. Like how people say dope still.

It's charming. I say formerly hip words after they are no longer hip! Pretty groovy, eh?

    ReplyDelete
  118. Theberzerker, #1 HUSS CHOMPIONJune 1, 2015 at 7:56 AM

Thinking about it, I would not be the least bit surprised if Owens won the Rumble this year. And that would be FANTASTIC.

    ReplyDelete
  119. BITE OWENS BITE!

    ReplyDelete
  120. Extant1979 - Extreme SuperstarJune 1, 2015 at 7:57 AM

I'd be shocked if Ambrose has a title reign.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Yeah it's really boss.

    ReplyDelete
  122. WWE turned into an indy fed so gradually I barely noticed!

    ReplyDelete
  123. It's whatever, is there a chance that he will ever get that? I always wanted Jeff Hardy to have a long title reign but he wasn't going to get that.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Excluding Mania, the post-Network buys have ranged from 39k (TLC 2014) to 147k (SummerSlam 2014). It roughly works out to 20-25% of the people who used to buy the PPVs. I think WWE would have a hard time convincing the 75-80% who get the Network to go back to paying 4x the price they're paying now minus all the Network content like NXT, especially with the overall not-so-good quality of the PPVs.

Yes, the hardcore fans would bite the bullet and bounce back, but what's to say those fans don't shrug their shoulders, say "fuck it" and start using illegal streams out of frustration?

    ReplyDelete
  125. But saying dope is.... dope.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Macklin, Man Without FearJune 1, 2015 at 7:58 AM

    Dipped in sauce.

    ReplyDelete
  127. I'm sure most would immediately suggest Finn Balor for new NXT champ, but how about Tyler Breeze? He's vastly improved in the past year and I think he deserves it.

Hell, why not have Owens just drop the belt (or have him stripped of it by Regal) since he's on the main roster now. They could do a great tournament with all the guys they have in NXT right now.

    ReplyDelete
  128. I think him keeping the belt is a cool way to respond to the Dusty Finish. He hates the booking too and is keeping the belt.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Macklin, Man Without FearJune 1, 2015 at 7:58 AM

    Hella...dope?

    ReplyDelete
  130. Fess up, who's the guy!?

    ReplyDelete
  131. The WWE Title has been just fine, the United States title has been great, the Tag Titles have been good. I'm not saying the NXT Title hasn't been done well but I wouldn't call it the second most important title in the company. Also you'd have to argue the NXT Title might not even be the most important title in NXT with the women's championship putting on **** matches every time its defended seemingly. And it was the NXT Women's Championship match that people are saying so far is MOTY.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Everybody will have a title reign at some point. Ambrose, Reigns, Owens, Zayn, Dallas, Ryback, Rusev, Kalisto. None of which will make any difference/

    ReplyDelete
  133. You went one too far.

Ladder Match WWE Championship tonight. I'm calling my shot.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Basically, it was Rorschach's Journal. He went off the handle.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Rorschach lol. He's my new favorite poster.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Oh yeah, most of those victories are "before they were famous." Undertaker was when he was "Master of Pain."

Still, you could make a pretty lengthy compilation of Lawler matches of him just beating future stars.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Macklin, Man Without FearJune 1, 2015 at 7:59 AM

    Kalisto for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Well, since they're going to do it in spite of your objections, how would you book it?

    ReplyDelete
  140. % chance Ryback loses the IC title tonight on RAW? I'm going with about 75%.

    ReplyDelete
  141. I wish there were some justification for the rematch other than "Fuck you I'm John Cena, I get a rematch, did I mention fuck you?"

    ReplyDelete
  142. Macklin, Man Without FearJune 1, 2015 at 7:59 AM

Someone has to play the role of person ruining joke. And since Marv isn't here....

    ReplyDelete
  143. Some old shit kids bring back and make it new again. But there are certain things that were never really cool in the first place and should never come back.

    ReplyDelete
  144. What happened exactly (other than being in a match with Ryback)?

    ReplyDelete
  145. That should've been the King DVD.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Extant1979 - Extreme SuperstarJune 1, 2015 at 8:00 AM

Yes, when they had two world titles, this was true. I think this is less likely now that they've dropped it back down to one.

    ReplyDelete
  147. relinquish it bc hes jumping to main roster. or have cena cost him it before mitb.

    ReplyDelete
  148. I thought one of the deals with NXT is that people graduate, but go out on their backs.

    ReplyDelete
  149. I'll mortgage the kid's future on that bet!

    ReplyDelete
  150. Macklin, Man Without FearJune 1, 2015 at 8:01 AM

I think he keeps it until the night after MITB.

    ReplyDelete
  151. He can be okay but then he goes NUTS randomly lol.

    ReplyDelete
  152. I'm pumped about Owens being put over so strongly too, but Let's Play It Out and See Where It Goes (tm)

    ReplyDelete
  153. Extant1979 - Extreme SuperstarJune 1, 2015 at 8:01 AM

I hope Owens comes out on Raw tonight and says, "I just spoke to Triple H, and I explained that I don't see a reason why I should fight John Cena again. And he agreed. So instead, I have been inserted into the Money in the Bank ladder match."

    ReplyDelete
  154. I'll go with - 75%

    ReplyDelete
  155. 0% The Ryback should have a long reign.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Macklin, Man Without FearJune 1, 2015 at 8:02 AM

I feel like he halfway likes me and halfway despises me. To be fair, I AM the John Cena of the Blog.

    ReplyDelete
  157. That would be awesome. I am hoping that Lana comes out tonight and says "No man has ever satisfied me like parallax did last night" I feel the odds of each are about even.

    ReplyDelete
  158. I don't think they would have made a big deal about Bryan handing over the belt to his pal if they intended to have him drop it in a day.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Extant1979 - Extreme SuperstarJune 1, 2015 at 8:02 AM

    5%

I'm guessing the Ryback keeps the belt for a while.

    ReplyDelete
  160. I really dig that actually

    ReplyDelete
  161. Watched that Lawler/Steen match from last year. Hell, if Jerry can still move like that, WWE should put him back in the ring for a feel-good comeback match.

    ReplyDelete
  162. He should break Honkys record!

    ReplyDelete
  163. Macklin, Man Without FearJune 1, 2015 at 8:04 AM

And then get beat by Bo Dallas! Total opposite of the HTM/Warrior dynamic.

    ReplyDelete
  164. everyone who swung through Memphis had to job to the piledriver

    ReplyDelete
  165. Lol I approve of that.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Just announcing like they did was lame. Let Owens taunt Cena for a bit and not give him one.

    ReplyDelete
  167. I'm just enjoying the moment instead of dreading the future.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Macklin, Man Without FearJune 1, 2015 at 8:05 AM

I'm really loving the idea of Dallas playing the Warrior role and just destroying a stunned Ryback.

    ReplyDelete
  169. I think more people on here could do the same.

    ReplyDelete
  170. Macklin, Man Without FearJune 1, 2015 at 8:05 AM

Have to admit. I thought at least one person would call me crazy.

    ReplyDelete
  171. I don't think that's possible for some.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Extant1979 - Extreme SuperstarJune 1, 2015 at 8:07 AM

    Give it time.

    ReplyDelete
  173. I get that WWE fucks most things up, so why not just enjoy the moment when they nail it?

    ReplyDelete
  174. We might have to modify that phrase, because things don't seem to go anywhere, it's more like....

Let's Play it Out and See What Bunch of Stuff Happens.

    ReplyDelete
  175. I'm calling Jake-Steamboat no match angle happening via apron powerbomb.

    ReplyDelete
  176. I wouldnt mind if they did Lawler/Owens as the main roster version of the Riley mini-feud.

    ReplyDelete
  177. Now if only they booked Roman Reigns likw they did Owens.

    ReplyDelete
  178. Macklin, Man Without FearJune 1, 2015 at 8:10 AM

Best part of a Lawler match is he cannot commentate on it.

    ReplyDelete
  179. Roman Reigns cant WRESTLE period.

    ReplyDelete
  180. Macklin, Man Without FearJune 1, 2015 at 8:11 AM

ROCK one bit of bad news: Roman's MOTN streak comes to a screeeeeeeching halt!

    ReplyDelete
  181. is the kayfabe reason that Owens has now earned a shot at the US title?

    ReplyDelete
  182. Yay/boo now it's okay/not okay for me to like/dislike him!

    ReplyDelete
  183. After his heart attack WWE is never putting Lawler in the ring again. With the exception of Hogan, I don't think we'll ever see another 60-plus wrestler in a WWE ring. Hell, with the exception of Sting for maybe one more match I don't see another 55-plus old in the ring either.

"65 Year-Old Pro Wrestler Dies in Ring on Live Television" is not something WWE stockholders would want to see.

    ReplyDelete
  184. He wasn't in a match, so you can still get away with "PPVS Roman has been on"

    ReplyDelete
  185. Sasha Banks Update

According to Chris Hirsch, the WWE has big creative plans
in the works for Banks to be promoted to the main roster. It is not yet
known exactly what those plans are or when his promotion will occur.

    ReplyDelete
  186. No. The kayfabe reason is pretty much the same as the real reason. Cena always gets another shot.

    ReplyDelete
  187. Macklin, Man Without FearJune 1, 2015 at 8:12 AM

I expect that from ROCK. But you? I expected more.

    ReplyDelete
  188. Macklin, Man Without FearJune 1, 2015 at 8:13 AM

    Thanks Chris!

    ReplyDelete
  189. I feel like I have heard everything Heyman has to say and he has done Austin's podcast in the past. Sorry, I'm a wet blanket.

    ReplyDelete
  190. Macklin, Man Without FearJune 1, 2015 at 8:14 AM

    It's Mike isn't it?

    ReplyDelete
  191. Yeah, I was pretty surprised they let him mention that. Or maybe they didn't and he did off the cuff. Jerry had a weird night.

    ReplyDelete
  192. For all the crap people give Meltzer about vague news that cannot possibly be proven or disproven, I expected to see more grief towards Alvarez for that.

    ReplyDelete
  193. IDK, I don't keep track of insignificant details about non top 5 "people"

    ReplyDelete
  194. Macklin, Man Without FearJune 1, 2015 at 8:14 AM

I chose "Yay now it's not okay for me to dislike him" how about you?

    ReplyDelete
  195. A healthy scratch too.

    Sad face.

    ReplyDelete
  196. Macklin, Man Without FearJune 1, 2015 at 8:15 AM

You know that's right! *Top 5 handshake*
