He has repeatedly said publicly that Chyna's sex tape nuked her chances of returning, but Waltman's back and he fucking made it...LiquidDisc37noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3838126259950293862.post-31851402896073545602015-04-23T11:06:14.831-06:002015-04-23T11:06:14.831-06:00Well, I don't have to pretend that it was &quo...Well, I don't have to pretend that it was "coincidence." You either believe it or you don't and neither one is my problem.

But since you brought it up...curious how many careers HHH destroyed? Because almost everyone I can think of off the top of my head has went on to become champion and pretty successful. Booker T too. And sorry, the dude was just not over enough to justify winning the title at WM19. No way. He got over just fine from the match as he put on a great show and was elevated from that. I'm also thinking of all the times HHH has actually been the catalyst for someone's first title reign. Hey...I'm sorry, I didn't watch the show itself, but...didn't he tap out to Bryan at WM 30? And Benoit at 20? Hmmmm...yeah the guy is definitely using his power to hold people down. (Power that he got mysteriously, BTW...because it certainly wasn't because he has busted his ass for the company for 20 years. He's the boss' son in law because he used a love potion on Stephanie, just like on Raw. He totally didn't EARN her love and respect. Or the respect of Vince. Its a magic power he has.)

Meanwhile...neither Curtis Axel nor Ryback have fully recovered from being Punk'd.

And I'm sorry, but it speaks volumes about the guy that he thinks there was more money for him to lose the belt at WM than for the biggest star of yesterday and the biggest star of today to fight over it. That's just delusional and a narcissism that incant stress enough. And of course, the E made then right decision as a year later, Punk throws a bitch fit and quits. Or got fired on his wedding day. (I mean...really..he quit. And I'm not talking about quitting on AJ either.)Jakenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3838126259950293862.post-89679292070166363782015-04-23T08:39:06.228-06:002015-04-23T08:39:06.228-06:00Calling it Punk's reign of terror was clearly ...Calling it Punk's reign of terror was clearly you linking it to HHH between 2002-2004. Don't pretend now you called it a reign of terror by coincidence.

The point is that Punk has a massive ego, yeah, but no careers were needlessly destroyed BY HIM.

They call it HHH's reign of terror because he booked himself at the expense of the roster. CM Punk did, as you said, his job. I remember the time period very differently than you do (where it was actually the refusal to make champion Punk the focus of the show that motivated me to finally stop watching Raw.) But that doesn't matter.

You act like Bryan got over from one thing, rather than continue get more over from several.

I'd assume his "fucking problem" is that he thought there was more money in him losing the title at Wrestlemania. Clearly you disagree, but once again, no matter what Punk's opinion, he did the job, because he didn't have HHH's influence to refuse it.Kyle Warnenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3838126259950293862.post-19797334405577080912015-04-23T04:09:45.595-06:002015-04-23T04:09:45.595-06:00I don't get it...did Bryan get over with Punk,...I don't get it...did Bryan get over with Punk, the Yes Movement, Cena? Which one?

What does HHH have to do with anything?

On one hand, no he didn't book himself (though it is strongly suggested that he had a big hand in it) even so, he didn't have to make his opponents look like scrubs. And he didn't want to put over the Rock? Let me see if I get this straight. He doesn't want to lose to one of the biggest stars...ever...in preparation for his big WM match. That more than kinda a dick thing to do. You imply that he put over Rock as a generous and kind thing...as opposed to his goddamn job. And again...what does HHH have to do with anything? Why the constant misdirection? Yeah he did the job...and bitched and moaned and whined about it for over w year. Is asshole even the right word? Entitled asshole?

Again...what does HHH have to do with anything? You and Punk were high if you thought he should have been higher on the card than Cena - the biggest star of this generation.

And one more time...since when does Punk or you think that he gets the right to choose who he works with? Who exactly does this prick think he is? And it was obvious he didn't want to work with Ryback...he made that perfectly clear in their matches. Dude wasn't even professional enough to pretend he was going to have a good match. It was 400+ days of him being a dick and stroking his ego...and the biggest dick move? Even after the longest reign of this generation...he still bitches that he wasn't given enough. What, precisely, is this dude's fucking problem?Jakenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3838126259950293862.post-71898668963234932362015-04-23T03:45:16.821-06:002015-04-23T03:45:16.821-06:00ugh. Despite the odds being repeatedly stacked against Austin, the guy the fans cheered for got multiple opportunities where their guy won. (And when Austin got hurt, they moved The Rock right into the same role...just with added catchphrasey goodness.)

Important to note: Despite being the owner of the WWF, Vince never made "the WWF" the heels. In many ways, the genius of the Attitude Era was that Vince made the fans think that THEY were "the WWF" and that he (Vince) was just the asshole who got the money.

---

WCW #1: The Outsiders (cool, take no shit, ass-kickers) vs WCW (wrestlers and corporate)

Cool bad guys who were a legitimate and unpredictable threat was definitely the shake-up that the WCW needed because the WCW product had both become stale and too dependent on stale characters. That said, it was clear that The Outsiders were meant to be the bad guys...and it would be up to WCW to put forward champions worthy and willing to stand-up to the Outsiders. Good basic beginning of a story...except that it changed before it could be resolved.

---

WCW #2: The original nWo (cruel, by any means necessary heels) vs WCW (faceless company)

Adding Hogan was brilliant--the shock factor of his first heel turn in decades gave a total reboot to what had grown tiresome. Hogan, however, wasn't really "cool" and he wasn't so much of an asskicker. But, the WCW couldn't muster a worthy or willing champion to stand up to the nWo, so the fans started cheering for the side that always seemed to win. (Who would continue to cheer on a bunch of losers? Cubs fans?--though there's hope this year.)

Good twist to the original story...except that no resolution seemed clear at this point. Slow build to Sting gave WCW loyalists hope.

---

WCW #3: Bloated nWo (sponsored by management, allowed to wallow in excess, comprising of nearly everyone and anyone) vs absent Sting (but mostly against the WCW fans)

Adding Bischoff made the nWo uncool. Winning all the time by nefarious means--while certainly heelish--did nothing to create drama. The nWo needed someone uncool to fight against to be cool (and if Bischoff thought that he could make the WWF the heels...he proved to be too into the meta-game and should have concentrated on his own product.) PLUS, he made WCW the thing that the supposedly cool side were against--without providing the WCW with enough reasons for the fans to keep believing in the WCW. They made the WCW fans the supposed bad guys. That's never good business. The limitations inherent in the nWo "winning" were made clear with the nightmare that was Souled Out.

Greed factors here. nWo vs Wolfpac could have worked...but nWo Hollywood vs nWo Wolfpac was an attempt to both eat and have cake. They needed Sting...but just couldn't seem to let Sting really win. They fell into Goldberg...but they just couldn't let Goldberg really win. By the end, there was nothing cool about the nWo (which is why the WWE has never managed to recapture what the nWo "was" since acquiring the brand.)

BOTTOM LINE: The WWF used to be good at giving the fans what they wanted...drama, certainly, but satisfying conclusions that lead to more drama. They had something to cheer for, something to root against...and a sense that what they cheered for was likely to eventually triumph, despite the odds. The WCW, on the other hand, didn't understand and never really gave a damn about their fans. They concentrated on shocks, swerves and the diminishing returns of cheering for bad guys when no good guys could ever hope to win. They never told a story, they sold t-shirts.Peter Greyyhttp://www.petergreyy.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3838126259950293862.post-46354521558546300972015-04-22T17:58:09.618-06:002015-04-22T17:58:09.618-06:00Well played.Well played.Robert Eddlemannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3838126259950293862.post-13045126768682217512015-04-22T17:38:32.121-06:002015-04-22T17:38:32.121-06:00My biggest take from this is the entirely believab...My biggest take from this is the entirely believable notion that Vince could still be on VHS.HOWwrestlingnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3838126259950293862.post-91929665849538687672015-04-22T17:36:37.655-06:002015-04-22T17:36:37.655-06:00Why do you think I need the drugs? Why do you think I need the drugs?JimbobJonesnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3838126259950293862.post-612311662109158322015-04-22T17:18:20.768-06:002015-04-22T17:18:20.768-06:00I think that's why people put some of the blam...I think that's why people put some of the blame on Hall.
