Live or not live, until Impact actually becomes interesting, with wrestlers I care about and stories I care about, I will not watch.

  2. Waste of money.

I don't see what difference it makes whether TNA is live, taped, in the Impact Zone, or not. People seem to have a hard on for this idea that they will only be successful if they run a touring show with paying fans every night, but that would outright kill TNA financially. There is no discernible difference between a live and a taped show from a viewer's perspective, as far as I'm concerned.

  3. I could not disagree any more. There is a gigantic difference ebtween live and taped shows, primarily the canned, obviously artificial crowd reactions that turn off tons of viewers.

  4. You don't care about AJ Styles, Kurt Angle, Austin Aries, the MCMG, etc.? To each his own, but TNA's talent roster is not the problem at all.

They turn all those guys 500 times a year. There is no flow to anything they do, it just feels like a minor league WWE.

I started DVRing Impact when Hogan started on Jan 4 2010. But then it just got be more and more of a chore to watch the show. I don't care about Hogan or Sting or Bischoff, or Ken Anderson or Jeff Hardy. They are all retreads, and there is nothing about Impact that is vastly different than what i can get much better from in WWE. They try new things, I give them credit for that, but then the execution is terrible like the Bound for Gloy series.

  7. After watching a pretty solid Sacrifice, I'm hoping that the feedback from fans will correlate more with what airs. Good shows get good feedback (and not the "TNA SUCKS" from trolls that didn't watch), bad shows get bad feedback. If Sunday's show was the doing of Lagana/Prichard, as is believed, then letting them take over from the misguided vision of Hogan/Bischoff is fine with me. The real trick is getting Dixie to understand the differences in the product depending on who booked what.

    Patterns. Hope she learns 'em.

  8.  So don't do them. There is nothing that says a taped show has to have artificial crowd sweetening.

    ReplyDelete
  9. For whatever reason, there's never been a national company (in the modern era) that DIDN'T artificially sweeten crowds (except maybe ECW, which never had to). Impact feels so overproduced, it hurts the product even when it's good.

  10. In all honesty, when they started join against Raw on Mondays, the live episodes did better than the taped ones.

  11. I tend to not watch taped shows, to be honest. I know it supposedly doesn't matter and I can only speak for myself, but I just don't do it. If a show is taped ahead of time, I'll check the spoilers and I end up not bothering unless something really catches my eye. That's generally because one of the reasons to watch is "I wonder what happens next". Unless a show is awesome, I generally won't bother watching it live.

That said, I pretty much can't stand TNA. Everytime I try to watch I'm turned off. I like some of the wrestlers but I almost always hate the storylines. Also, somehow Mr. Anderson is always on my screen and I really don't like him. I know people say he's a good promo guy and he probably is, I fully admit I only see a small sample size, but the last promo of his I saw was just him saying asshole about 50 thousand times with nothing more interesting than that. I want to like it, but I just don't. Maybe if it goes live I'll try again, although in this case I never really bothered reading the spoilers anyway, just don't usually watch.

  12. If they had gone from 8 to 10 from the start, instead of 9 to 11 like idiots, they'd still be on Monday nights.

Going exactly head-to-head against Raw (in January, the kickstart to WrestleMania & WWE's hottest time of the year) was one of the stupidest things in the history of pro wrestling.

Everyone focuses on the Monday Night part but that was fine, if ill-timed, but the 9pm timeslot was death.

  13. I've shit on Impact forever and in my opinion, rightfully so.  It's been a descent into mediocrity (and sometimes outright shit) since late 2006.

However, going live, seems like a good time to jump back in and give it another shot.  I don't get why companies feel the need to overproduce taped shows (Impact, Smackdown), but the perception of a live show is that it's more fun and unpredictible.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I'm probably not remembering right but didn't Impact go to Mondays the same night Bret Fucking Hart came back to Raw? lol

    ReplyDelete
  15. No, you're remembering perfectly. And it was one of the smartest things Vince ever did. Impact is going to go head to head with us? Here's Bret-Shawn. I didn't even consider checking out Impact.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Ok that's what I thought.

That opening segment was probably the most surreal thing on television since Vince's face opened Nitro.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Guess what we'll have to look forward to on the first LIVE IMPACT on May 31!  BROOKE HOGAN!!!!!!!!!  Doesn't that get everyone here wet with anticipation?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Funny how a little competition gets the WWE to try hard.

I want TNA to go back to Monday night just so the WWE will have a reason to stop trying to feed us sht.

    ReplyDelete
  19. TNA has some awesome talents on their roster, but they don't utilize them effectively - I could watch AJ Styles and Alex Shelley all day every day if they were just going out and doing their own thing, but even I got sick of wading through all the garbage to get to the good stuff.

I want to like TNA, I *really* do, I've been watching it since the beginning, but I finally gave up about six months ago. They somehow made me NOT want to watch some of my favorite wrestlers.

I really hope that Vince signs Styles and Shelley one day - Punk, Bryan, Styles, and Shelley would make for an amazing main-event scene. Hell, let them have "Smackdown", and make SD the "wrestling" show once again (like it was in 2002). "Raw" can be all about Big Johnny cutting multiple twenty-minute promos every week.

  20. The next generation of Bischoff and Hogan are now on TV.

    The Mayans were right.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I would rather they make Xplosion it's own show that can be shown on Monday or Tuesday. Now that they will be on the road you can show the live show Thursday and tape out of the IZ for a secondary show.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I've never really watched Impact before, I turned it on tonight just to kind of check in because of this news.

    They're opening with a Roode/Hogan interview.

It's um...not totally horrible so far I guess? Hogan announced Roode has to defend the title tomorrow then basically says "And here's a couple of people that want to fight for it." followed by the whole locker room coming out to stand on the entrance ramp.

That was kind of a cool moment.

Oh and kids under 6 don't have any idea who Hulk Hogan is...which is fucking bizarre.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Dude don't forget about bischoff Jr. And Brooke hogan!!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm guessing that Brooke Hogan was hired as a fluffer

    ReplyDelete
  25. I've tried so hard to like tna. I was always a two promotion guy from the early 90's to the death of wcw so it would seem that I would watch it. I dvr raw and smackdown but for whatever reason tna just can't make the cut.

Probably because its top act is Jeff fucking jarrett

    ReplyDelete
  26. I haven't watched Impact in years (outside of the odd episode like the Jan 2010 one), and follow it half-assed through recaps and this has always been my perception. It feels like Angle, Anderson (especially those 2), Hardy, AJ, even Hogan are constantly turning heel/face.

And am I hearing this right, that Christopher Daniels and AJ Styles are feuding AGAIN? (or maybe they never stopped, I don't know). I like both guys but they need to give that shit a rest. Those guys need to stay the fuck away from each other (along with Cena/Big Show, Cena/Orton, and HHH/Shawn).

  27. Does Kevin Sullivan have a son?

    lol

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm pretty sure I just saw Matt Morgan in an insurance commercial. Weed these days is fucking crazy apparently.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Thank God no, Evad Sullivan was quite enough, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think there is a kind of shared experience when you are watching something live. The Open Raw threads on this site and twitter on Monday nights demonstrate that.

    ReplyDelete
  31. but this time Kazarian is involved, that'll definitely freshen up that feud.

    ReplyDelete
  32.  Kid's under six shouldn't watch wrestling in the first place...

    ReplyDelete
  33.  Lol right, because god knows wrestling has never been successful when they market to kids.

    Except Hogan/Warrior/Bret/Shawn/Cena\

    ReplyDelete
  34. The only thing i hate about taped shows is the overdubbed Cheers and boos.  the worst one I've ever seen is when Bryan comes out, you can clearly see a lot of the audience "Yesing" yet all you heard were boos. it looked terrible

    ReplyDelete
  35. But today they are only successful, because there is no competition, and in the 90es when Bret and HBK were on top, they got their ass kicked by WCW. And even today, where they make much money with merchandise and Wrestlemania, the ratings are down, the ppv buyrates are down... compared to the Austin era, they are as down as they were in the 90s - and there is no WCW who kicks their ass today.

So I think it stands 3:1 vs the PG era, because only Hulkamania was a real success.

    ReplyDelete
  36. apparently they should have launched on Mondays in may. WWE May is painfull

    ReplyDelete
  37. Yeah, there is a long history of it for sure.

It's always funny going back and watching those old SNME events on WWE DVD in good quality, because the phony crowd noise really jumps out and slaps you in the face, although it was obvious even back then.

They made the mistake of releasing an LOD vs Orient Express match on one of the WWF Columbia House tapes with Lord Alfred Hayes/Mooney on commentary, which also appeared on the WrestleMania VII NBC Main Event special with Vince and Roddy on commentary.

Of course in the SNME version, the crowd is going absolutely bonkers the whole time and pops for every spot.  Of course none of that is real -- and on the other version, the crowd is dead for everything but the LODs finishing move.

  38.  You are so 2004. ;) The last time Jeff Jarrett was the top act, was before Kurt Angle came, I think.

    ReplyDelete
  39. The_One_Millionth_VisitorMay 18, 2012 at 4:22 AM

yea jarrett hasnt sniffed the main event since lockdown 2007.

    ReplyDelete
  40. That's still cutting it a little close though

    ReplyDelete
  41.  The last time he was World Champion was 2006. That's long enough for me, even if he had some feuds with Angle during the last years. ;)

But it's long ago since he was the most dominant TNA wrestler on screen.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Rating are down versus what...Austin? Compared to Attitude nothing is a success, including Hogan.

The ratings are SO TERRIBLY DOWN that...they're adding another full hour of programming.
