Art Barr Blog Question

Hey Scott,
Have a question for ya. I saw the famous Octagon/Santo vs. Love Machine/Guerrero match from TripleMania recently and was blown away at how good a worker Art Barr was. I had never seen him wrestle before and thought he was just as crisp, quick and as athletic as Eddie was. If this guy didn't pass away, could he have been among the next crop of elite workers that were coming like Benoit, Malenko, etc?
His frog splash was SICK!

I don't think he was an elite WORKER, but he was an elite heel and he would have been a giant star because he had all the personality and charisma that Eddie and Dean were lacking for years.  He was just too big of a risk for any of the promotions, however, for obvious reasons.

  1. All the gringos locos (sans Konnan) were good. Konnan was good back in the day, but he never should have been a Loco.

Especially Madonnas BF lol. Greatest Name Evah.

  2. Controversial statement, but just have to say it - I really do not understand all the love that tag match gets.  Maybe I just don't understand or appreciate lucha that much, but I'd have a hard time giving it anything more than ***3/4 or so - very solid but not an all-time great.

  3.  I think one factor is the crowd - it's a testament not only to the kind of heat Eddy and Art were able to generate with a well-worn gimmick, but to the love El Hijo Del Santo commanded; seriously, he's able to work with his own indie group because even in a guest appearance for AAA a few years back he was received like a returning hero.

  4. Didn't Art Barr have a rape conviction (like an actual conviction, not just being charged)? Would either of the Big 2 have given him a prominent spot considering the bad press it would bring?

  5. He said he could have gotten it overturned, but he took the plea deal to avoid a trial.

  6. I second that. of course.

  7. I agree that it's not a five-star match. But if you look at the context of when the match happened, when Men on a Mission, Quebecers and the Nasty Boys were considered "top" tag teams, I can see why the match gets love.

  10. I've never seen the match but I don't get lucha at all.

If that's your thing, great, but it's all midgets in mask's putting on a gymnastic exhibition to me.
