Deadspin Wrestler run-in stories

Decent installment. Read on to see what happens with Mick Foley and "Dollface" and find out how Lou Ferrigno is a dick. Plus, dont tell Scott Steiner what size pasta to order and don't mouth off to Lesnar. Also, a great Virgil story and a funny one about th Bushwhackers.

  2. I never knew Foley had an open relationship until these last two installments.  Ick.

  3. I'm not sure Mrs. Foley knew she had an open relationship.

  4. A PR guy said in another Deadspin article that 90% of pro athletes cheat on their wives. I'm assuming he's right b/c Mick seems like he'd be one of the less likely guys to do that.

  5. Damnit. I want more info on the 'Taker story so we can see if he actually used the bat on the air.

  6. A lot of people say how Mick seems likes a guy who wouldn't cheat but I don't. He seems to be in love with himself and those are the types who would cheat on their wife

  7. Seeing as how WCW didn't exist in 2001, I'm thinking the Nash/Steiner story is bullshit. In fact, I'm starting to think that most of these are B.S., a lot of them seem like they're written by the same person.

  8.  I think a lot of them are BS, too, but they are still fun to read.

  9. WCW's last show was in March of 2001.

  10. 95% of guys that are on the road all the time and have a steady stream of willing females literally lining up to bone them are the types who would cheat on their wives.

True of females too for the most part.

  11. That they are. If they're written by the same person, they're well written, I'll give him that.

  12. Yeah, I meant summer of 2001.

  13.  Just in general, there are a lot more people that cheat on their spouses than most people realize, I'd bet. Some are just less obvious about it than others. Add to that being separate from them all the time and being famous enough to attract groupies? Those guys are all out banging whoever they want, all the time, except in very rare cases I'm sure.

I'd also be willing to bet Foley drinks more than he makes it sound like in his books. Maybe he's not as big of a drinker as everyone else but it's nigh impossible to come up in the business in the 80s and not be a regular drinker.

  14. I think 90% of the stories coming are bullshit.  Someone has an axe to grind or isn't a fan of someone or simply thinks they can write a funny story.  Forgive me if I choose not to base my opinion on any wrestlers off that stuff.

  15. I think are edited by the guy who posts them. Either that or they are sent by wannabe Deadspin writers because the writing is similar to all of the writers on the site

  16. I think that basically what happened is that column gets a good amount of pageviews, so when they run out of legit stories, they just make shit up just to inflate their traffic.

That's just me being paranoid, still fun though.

  17. ''
I didn't watch the following week and will never know if he actually used that bat''

    WHAT. Why the fuck not?

  18. That's what I figured. I wonder how many stories you receive. Anyway, I always enjoy your work Barry. Didn't know you read the BoD.

    ReplyDelete
  19. No kidding!!! Makes me doubt the veracity of the story.

  20. welcome to the BoD.

Some of the stories are funny as fuck.

I thought about sending in my stories. My Benoit one is just creepy though.

  21. I would love to spend a night drinking with Vince McMahon. Imagine what you could learn...

  22. Yeah, I get that many stories are likely faked, especially now that more people are aware of the blog. Unfortunate, but a reality for the internet- especially if someone has a bone to pick.

  23.  Not paranoid.  Realistic.  It gets known, stupid bitter smark sends in a story about wrestler A that he heard held down his favorite about being mean at an autograph signing or in an airport.  Another one sends in a BS story about a wrestler hitting on his mom, sister, grandma, dead corpse of his aunt.  I mean come on.  These are wrestling fans here.  I don't subscribe to the toothless hillbilly stereotype or even the smark stereotype of sitting in the basement of mom and dad's house at 35, but I do subscribe to the theory that given the chance 90% of them will write utter bullshit to say they got their story on the site or just to get their own bizarre petty revenge at whatever wrestler they decided they didn't like.

  24. However made up some of these may be, I can definitely believe the Kevin Nash/Lou Ferrigno story. Dude is at pretty much every convention that'll take him, and I've never once heard anything nice about him. He's sort of like a more famous Virgil in that he's actually famous enough to trick people into blowing money on his signature.

  25. Add Vince to the list of people I'd love to have a beer with. According to Bret's book, Vince was an insane partier, even took a gigantic piss in Flair's bed.

I'd love to have a beer with Nash and talk nothing but movies with him.
