Another One Bites The Dust..

And now Beth Phoenix is gone.  Can't blame her, going to TNA or even just working indies for a while would be a much better move for her at this point anyway.  At least she'd be able to train against rollups that way.

Comments

  1. Man, you can't do headlines like that for wrestling. I swear, I clicked on the link in Twitter assuming someone died.

    ReplyDelete
  2.  Scott just freaked me the fuck out too.  I read the headline and then the sentence starts "Beth Phoenix" and I was like, "no!"...anywho, she's tailored made for TNA.  Bring her in, now!  They should also bring back Awesome Kong and you'd have a helluva divsion.

    ReplyDelete
  3. FUUUUUUUUUU.....oh wait, TNA isn't a cesspool anymore. BRING ON SISTER BETHANY FIREBIRD!

    ReplyDelete
  4. Hopefully they will start using Natalya as the dominant diva that she should have been years ago. Maybe they might even use Sara Del Rey as a performer and use her as the butt kicking diva because that division certainly needs one.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Sad to hear that she's out of a good job and feel bad that her talent was willfully ignored for years, but I'm sure TNA will come knocking and offer her decent money for a lot less travel. She'll land on her feet in roughly ninety days, and revive her career in just a few months. Maybe we'll even get that Beth/Kong feud we've all been clamoring for.

On the plus side, I still have Natalya for my eye-candy, so I'll make due.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I'd be much more upset if WWE never did anything with her before the release.  Yeah about half the time she was under-used but at least she had stretches of greatness mixed in.

WWE can redeem this by putting Sara Del Ray on TV though.  PLEASE do that guys.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Same here. I was thinking "Hmm... How many ECW guys are left?"

    ReplyDelete
  8. How many talented female wrestlers do they have left?

    ReplyDelete
  9. After Punk and her split her days were numbered.  Sad but true.  I don't think any female in WWE has survived a break-up.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Layla has improved but isn't on Beth's level.  They also have a bunch of NXT Diva's they could bring up who are good.  And of course SARA DEL RAY.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Stephanie seemed to get over Savage leaving...

    (sorry, couldn't resist)

    ReplyDelete
  12. Threadjack.  To quote someone: Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!

WWE officials have discussed the possibility of bringing back the Nexus. The company was reportedly "shocked" when they heard fans doing Nexus chants on Raw during the Wade Barrett vs. Justin Gabriel match and one of the top stories on WWE.com was one about whether Barrett might reunite the group.

A source in the company said, "The only reason for putting up a top story on the website about a glorified squash match is to hear more from the fans."

Officials feel it would give Barrett a chance to lead the stable again and would showcase him to look as strong as they can, and the Nexus brand sold a ton of merchandise. The company plans to see if the Nexus chants continue, and are working on ideas for if they move ahead.

    ReplyDelete
  13. So long as it's only 3 or 4 members.  But I'm a sucker for heel stables and it would be a good way to get some NXT guys on the main shows again assuming they go that route and not put existing talent in besides Barrett.

    ReplyDelete
  14.  I actually agree. Heel stables are a lot of fun and Barrett is actually a pretty good leader. It could help add a tag team into the division as well.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Nattie is it, really. I hope Death Ray figures it out and leaves before she starts. Maybe TNA can sign all of them and make a legit women's division. Stranger things have ahppened.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Tracked record indicates...don't bet on it.

    ReplyDelete
  17. From Kong, Nattie, and Beth to just Nattie. Here's hoping she leaves as well and they can be reunited in TNA. Maybe we can get them running roughshod like they should have and then splitting up to determine the true dominant woman. Followed by Kong coming in and crushing them both. lol

    ReplyDelete
  18. WWE's fault, not hers.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yeah Sara should really try and get out before they even do anything with her, that'd be a smart career move.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Post-Nexus has been DREADFUL for Gabriel (who showed a TON of promise and looked like he might be the breakout star early on) and Slater, Ryback had to be repackaged, and Otunga took quite some time to find his groove as well.  And while they always seemed at the edge of pushing Barrett, he's had long periods of just standing still as well.  A Nexus reunion, could only help some of the members, and I don't think it would necessarily hurt anyone either.  Not sure it's downright stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Was actually thinking this other day (I think during the Barrett/Gabriel match), that it much kinda suck to be Michael Tarver.  He's the one who lost out, considering everyone else has received some focus and has a place.

    ReplyDelete
  22. This explains why she completely phoned in her match on Monday

    ReplyDelete
  23. Sorry Gabriel is never going to be a big star due to his lack of charisma and mic skills.  Some wrestlers are just cursed like that.  Hell, SLATER has more personality than Gabriel.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I don't really want to see the "Nexus" name and everything return, but I wouldn't mind the idea of some of them (namely Barrett, Gabriel, and Slater) reuniting due to their past relationship and deciding that the whole would be more than the sum of the parts.

Let Barrett go for the World title, Gabriel-Slater for the tag titles, and maybe Young and O'Neil as the extra thugs to round out the group. Or have Barrett, Gabriel, and Slater as Punk's new stable, as the four of them try to control the WWE, IC, and Tag titles. It'd be a good group for Kane-Bryan to feud with and could cement Bryan's face-turn by having him side with Cena/Sheamus/Orton, and would be a natural feud for Ryback.

Hmm... Maybe Punk as WWE champ, Barrett as World champ, Gabriel as IC champ, Slater as US champ, Young-Oneil as Tag champs, Natalya (with a pink "N" logo) as Divas champ, and Mason as the extra muscle? Nah, that's probably too much, shouldn't spread it across both shows, but I like to think out loud sometimes.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Luckily Beth gets to keep her in-ring name and won't have to change it.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I wouldn't waste a new stable on Slater and Gabriel again, much rather see some NXT guys like Seth Rollins and Big E. Langston.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Death Rey is friends with tons of wrestlers inside the company and has trained with DB, if nothing else, they'll use her for an angle with him, and hopefully, they'll let her talent shine.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'll be glad if they bring back the theme song as I really liked it.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Definitely, one of the best themes in years.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Really makes me wonder why the hell Del Ray signed with them

    ReplyDelete
  31. No way, he could easily be the next Jeff Hardy.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Does she own the rights?

    ReplyDelete
  33. She was using it in SHIMMER before she came to WWE so I would assume she does.  I could be wrong, though.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I wished they'd have used it for Barrett's return--just get the singer to re-record it as "I'm The One, I'm The One, The Chosen One", etc.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Well he turned out to be a complete cockbag so fuck him.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Because Del Rey wants to show her skills off on a higher level?  Not saying WWE won't miss-use her but hell at least she has a chance now.

    ReplyDelete
  37.  Agreed. I think showing your skill at the highest level (WWE) increases your stock cuz if they get released they can get good money from indies or in Japan just by being billed as "former WWE star..."

    ReplyDelete
  38. Hey! Where's my hat tip on the defend against the rollup thing!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Beth has been "mis-booked" for months now. I don't blame her for wanting to leave. She's easily the best female wrestler on the card and they haven't involved her in anything important in maybe a year. I figured this was coming when she wasn't in the battle royale a few weeks ago. Also, I gotta say, they had something awesome going with the "Divas of Doom" gimmick. Why didn't they run with that? I love Beth and Nattie...They're awesome in the ring and they're hot! How do you waste that?

    ReplyDelete
  40. At least through the power of YouTube, we'll always have Glameralla.

They could have gone a lot further with the Divas of Doom, though.

    ReplyDelete
  41. re: The Nexus brand sold a ton of merchandise.

Yes they did.   So why end it?

The argument for not turning Cena is that he sells a ton of merchandise, but ending the Nexus seems to go against.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I like Beth, and hope that she gets a decent run in TNA, but I'm not surprised.

There wasn't much left for her to do, the girls have a shorter life span.

    ReplyDelete
  43. This is a huge loss. Why will make the two minute piss break matches marginally more watchable now?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Yup, or she might get over in WWE and stick around for at least a few years and make good money.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Nearly ending the career of Gregory Iron.  Acting like a dick on the internet challenging Cena to a shoot fight.  This was stuff that happened a while ago but I doubt he's changed.

    ReplyDelete
  46. According to the newzboards, The Nexus merch didn't sell very well and Vince was disappointed in the sales numbers.  Of course, you have to take anything on the newzboards with a keg of salt, I know.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Can't blame her she just looks silly selling for & losing to far inferior talent.

Or maybe that's her fault, I mean guys like Ric Flair & Chris Jericho have always been able to lose decisively & sell for wrestlers who are far below their level and not look crappy

    ReplyDelete
  48. On Art of Wrestling Gregory Iron said Tarver once beat the fuck out of him in a match & that's he's totally sloppy & irresponsible.

    ReplyDelete
  49. WWE is in a weird damned if you do damned if you don't situation with the Divas: they signed Sara Del Rey and Mercedes Martinez in hopes that if they sign real wrestlers they'll be less likely to bolt on the company like some of the models do, but then real wrestlers like Beth don't want to take a backseat to the models so they bolt for a place like TNA where they are treated like a big deal.

    ReplyDelete
  50.  Honestly, Natty is the only decent one on the main roster. Paige on NXT is awesome, otherwise the diva division is a joke. I like Eve, but as eye candy not a wrestler. Kelly doesn't impress me in the ring or out, and Layla is bowling shoe ugly and is horrible in the ring still. Kaitlyn is improving, but needs time, and Alicia is just as bad now as she was when debuted.

    ReplyDelete
  51.  Between those two suggestions I'm thinking it's Money, with the roster they have and the attitude the WWE has about women's wrestling she won't be able to show off squat

    ReplyDelete
  52. The difference is that Flair and Jericho would actually be allowed to look good more often than not, though. Sure, they jobbed sometimes, but they weren't actual jobbers.

Beth has been treated like a jobber for years, always having to make Kelly Kelly or whomever look good. Despite that, she's always been over, and the smallest glimmer of hope that she'd be used properly was always met with a positive reaction from the audience.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I definitely think the whole "Divas of Doom" debacle was really the straw that broke the camel's back for most fans - they lost every friggin' match!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Even if Tarver wasn't a dick, he was still atrociously bad in the ring.

    ReplyDelete
  55. it's not just being "on their level". it's the combination of "being on their level" and "looking like a monster compared to most divas". think about a situation in which Andre the Giant, Kane or Khali would not only be bigger than their opponents but obviously a lot more talented workers as well.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Mercedes Martinez was never signed.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Definitely.

I think a lot of fans forget that wrestling is a business, and the performers are looking to make as much money as possible. I mean, yeah, it bothers me when somebody isn't used to their fullest potential, but I'm sure for 99% of the roster, fame and fortune trump not being able to show off all the cool moves they know.

    ReplyDelete
  58. and yet they still don't bring back Goldberg.

    ReplyDelete
  59. hopefully. if 2012 has proven us anything than it is that putting the girls in angles with the guys results in them being much more over than if they are competing in the "divas division". see: Eve, AJ.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Could be, though it's also possible that she signed the rights away, much like Brother Ray and Brother Devon.

Though I actually did like somebody's suggestion of "Firebird" for her - probably the only time I'd really like a TNA-ized name. "Bethany Firebird" is a fantastic name.

[Hmm, just checked, seems she did actually use the name "Firebird" prior to WWE. Cool.]

    ReplyDelete
  61. They must not have come to terms. I never heard updates on Matt Taven or PAC either, I just heard that offers had been cast out. But then again sometimes these things go unreported, I didn't really hear anything about Scorpio Sky beforehand.

    ReplyDelete
  62. @spicollidriver:disqus   @Stuart_Chartock:disqus

Thanks for the input. I wasn't really passing judgement on Beth just thinking out loud. I'm a fan of hers and hope she goes to TNA so she can show off what she can actually do in matches longer than 3 min.

    ReplyDelete
  63. that's a particularly good point. She looks like she can easily kick the shit out of any of these little girls, and time & again has her moves countered by them & loses. Does her no favors

    ReplyDelete
  64. Wants to work with her BF?  And considering he just split with his valet...

    ReplyDelete
  65.  Her real first name is Elizabeth, so presumably she could legally get away with just keeping "Beth" since it's a common shortening. Beth Firebird would be a good one even if she can't keep Beth Phoenix.

    ReplyDelete
  66.  Whichever Bella dated Ziggler managed to drag the other one out with her even though Brie is still dating Bryan, that's pretty powerful breakup mojo.

    ReplyDelete
  67.  Her & Claudio? Didn't really know that.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Yeah, but they're a matched set, one's not much good without the other.

    ReplyDelete
  69. It's what I've been told.  And the dropping of Aksana seems like a great opportunity to introduce Lara DuBeam.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Don't know about Taven but PAC got signed for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  71. She can still stiff kick people.

    ReplyDelete
  72.  I remember hearing Alicia Fox was dating someone interesting but I'm blanking on who it was.

    ReplyDelete
  73. PS Hayes?

    Cause that's what I've heard.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Only reason the Duds lost the name is because WWE bought ECW.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Hopefully Natalya follows her lead.

    ReplyDelete
  76. TNA better get the Walter White pile ready.  Beth is right there...hopefully Kong will be back on track soon.

Just have her crush Boring Brooke.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Could be. Wonder if he ever tells her he's more of a n*gger than she is.

    ReplyDelete
  78. The Divas of Doom were a lot of fun until the writers got bored with them and never gave the angle any sort of blowoff whatsoever.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I don't understand what the point of splitting the Gabriel/Slater tag team was if they were just going to turn both guys into jobbers anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  80. And God help us all if the solution to the Divas division eventually becomes "Well, we'd better bring back Michelle McCool!"

    ReplyDelete
  81. Well, I heard that some SD Diva a couple years back had an...oral relationship with PS Hayes.  Fox was the most likely candidate.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Please don't even joke about it. I prefer WWE McRibs-free, just let Taker keep Tombstoning babies out of her at home.

    ReplyDelete
  83.  Lmao at Lara DuBeam

    ReplyDelete
  84. Thank you, I try my best.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Like stated in the nWo thread: No end game. If they had a Diva's tag title maybe it would have been different.

I hope she goes to TNA. They need to restock their division.

    ReplyDelete
  86. She's Edge's girlfriend. They've been together for a while now (since CM Punk dumped her last year).

Maybe Edge wanted her to retire and spend more time with him.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I was really hoping for Kong vs Phoenix at some point. What ever happened with Kong? She was so over at the Rumble when she kicked ass. I thought a star was born.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Mic skills and charisma are not the same thing.  The guy knew how to play an audience.  The emotionless, sociopath-ic look on his face before he would hit the 450 Splash MADE that move.  Again, during the Nexus' early days, it seemed like he and Barrett would be the breakout stars.  Like Stuart_Chartock said, he could've been the next Jeff Hardy.

    ReplyDelete
  89.  For a guy who's gimmick was punching people, he threw an awful worked punch.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Saw this at 411 that apparently Beth is denying this

    She says it's false news...

    - Rumors that Beth Phoenix gave her notice to WWE may be just that...rumors. Several readers told Rajah
that they spoke with Phoenix as she was leaving the arena in Albany and
she replied "No, I don't plan on leaving any time soon."This is all hearsay though, so, you know, grain of salt
