Anyone having trouble with Disqus?

Just wondering if anyone else is having trouble with the mobile version of Disqus on their phones.  For some reason, lately I can only load Disqus on my phone if it's using the 2012 version, because otherwise it just hangs at the loading screen.  And it's not just the blog, it's also on the AVClub and a couple of other sites with the original mobile Disqus on it.  I've tried both the default Android internet app and Chrome and neither one works, and neither does loading the desktop version on the phone, so I'm getting kind of annoyed wondering what other troubleshooting I can do.  I've got a Samsung Galaxy S2X with Android 4.0.2 on it if anyone is technically minded enough to figure out what's going on here.  I tried tweeting at @disqushelp but they don't tend to be terribly helpful.

Any ideas?

  1. It won't load on my iPhone/iPad in Safari. I'm not technically-minded enough to be helpful, though. Sorry.

  2. Yes! Yes! Yes! I've been having the exact same issue on my iPhone 4S for the past three days...constant loading, unable to see the comments or post. Can only do so from my PC. I tried power cycling the phone, closing Safari completely, clearing cache and data on my phone, nothing works so far. I'm hoping Apple is not forcing an upgrade to iOS5, because I prefer Google Maps by far after seeing what Apple did to my wife's phone when she "upgraged"...

  6. Yeah, I haven't had any luck with it since last night on my iPad.

Probably nothing you can do to address it -- seems to be a systemwide issue across multiple sites.

It's likely just a bug in the code.  I'd guess that when loading the module, Discus pulls the type of browser and platform you are using and then renders the controls based on that -- so it's probably getting hung up in a loop once it detects the platform is a mobile or tablet device.

  7. Not working on my Droid 4 with Firefox for Android. Perhaps this is what Disqus' plan was to force everybody to the new format.

  10. Is the new Disqus back for good?

  11. Well for the moment if that's my only option to read comments on my phone, that's what I've gotta go with because I do about half of my reading on it. I'm gonna investigate this further, though.

  12. I know I'm in the minority here, but I hope you keep the new Disqus. Didn't you say they are trying for force everyone to adopt it anyway? Maybe that's the source of the mobile problems.

  13. Honestly, I don't care either way. I like both versions well enough and it's just that people got so PASSIONATE about the changeover that I held the vote. Could be worse -- ToplessRobot got stuck with a newer and shittier system as a result of meddling from their parent company, and it REALLY makes you appreciate Disqus.

  14. Well, switching to new Disqus has fixed it, but bleech...so slow

When I use Firefox it loads fine , anyone else having a similar problem ? Contacting disqus is a waste of time , they're no help what so ever and good luck getting any response from RawStory .

  27. I was surprised to see Disqus load on my IPad IOS 8 here most sites that run Disqus will never load since I went to OIS 8 on Chrome but seem to run on Safari but terrible delay in typing only on Safari. Also on Chrome sort by will not even work! Bugs galore somewhere and has become unusable!

  28. Is the "trouble loading" I get for most sites using Disqus an iPad issue or Disqus? Or the news site I am accessing? I have no issues with my desktop, but since I surf mainly mobile, using the desktop really isn't an option.

  31. Hell yeah! I have the same issues on my iPhone 4S. The comments will never load. EVER. My iPhone will turn to dust before comments will load. I've stopped trying!

No such problem on my iMac, so could it be DISQUS uses too much memory for mobile devices? I don't know.

    ReplyDelete
  32. It appears unfixable on the user end. And DISQUS seems unwilling to fix it. Our only hope is that sites eventually turn away from DISQUS and someone with a more together act steps in.

  33. Does NOT work on Firefox for me. Nonono.

  34. Hell Yup, I am facing problem in my blog disqus comment not loading properly, what should i do to sort out this problem.
