Punk DVD

Not sure if you've seen these or not, but Punk's DVD is looking like a break in the mold with how WWE does most of its DVD production

Apparently they got Michael Hayes in there as well, offering managements point of view of punk during some of his salad days.  I was going to get this anyway, but now Im really looking forward to it.

Seems interesting, especially because I wasn't watching during his rise up through ECW and such.  Wish they would have dropped a few thousand ROH's way and bought the rights to, say, Punk v. Joe or something, but I can see why they wouldn't want to highlight a TNA guy anyway.  If it comes up in my monthly care package, I'll give it a review.

  1. Um, sure...

Dear God, make this happen.  I want a 2k12 version of Dudes With Attitudes.

  2. They're giving almost 10 minutes to the ROH stuff with Raven and Joe. I haven't been blown away by a WWE documentary in a long time, this is probably going to change that.

  3. I fucking love WWE.com lately. That CM Punk led flock looks amazing, I actually thought that maybe they were going this route last year when he started name-dropping people who were fired on television. We need more factions, it's an easy way to get people over and fill TV time.

  4. More factions are always good, even the Encore one that was just created.  Say what you will about the credibility of the members but at least that's an indication of putting some effort in the midcard.  And to be quite honest Mahal has been impressing me a lot lately on NXT so hopefully he can transfer that to Raw and Smackdown.

  5. Yeah but starting with Heath Slater, Jinder Mahal, and McIntyre is not a good start. They are the anti-Horsemen.

  6. Blah...

They need to bring back the Dangerous Alliance; after all, if they are expecting us to boo Punk becasue of his association with Heyman, why not bring back the group Heyman led in the pre-ECW days?

Punk, Cody Rhodes, Eve (she's proven to be a decent heel character), maybe toss in Heath Slater and Ryback too so they can feud with Bryan and Kane?

  7. Like I mentioned right down below the mere fact that it was created shows an effort in improving the midcard.  Would Cesaro have been a much better choice to lead the stable?  Sure but Slater can draw good heat on the mic.

Of course this will all be for naught if they continue to lose all the time but I'll let that happen first before I pass judgement.

  8. I'd pop to see the WWE '12 United Kingdom come into being.  Especially because it would mean turning Sheamus heel again.

  9. Heath Slater would work as a good foil for Danial Bryan; bonus points if they put him with Ryback (who's career is DOA as a face since he has done jack and shit so far) and they could have a nice long feud with Bryan and Kane as far as Slater getting Ryback to be his "Kane" as they go after the tag belts.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Um, saying Ryback has done jack shit isn't very accurate.  True he hasn't been involved in anything major yet (with the exception of last Raw) but no way will WWE turn him heel anytime soon.  Besides they need more faces anyway.

  11. I want a stable of JBL (manager), ADR (with Ricard Rodriguez), Jinder Mahal, David Otunga (as a manager/consultan/part-time wrestler) and MAYBE Ted Jr.

Call it the 1% or the Billionaire Boys Club

  12. One of the ex writers had an idea on twitter that JBL should buy Raw. I thought would have been pretty cool.

    ReplyDelete
  13.  I've said it before, I'll say it again.  They've already had Punk as the cult-leader of a heel stable twice.  There's no reason to do it again.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Punk v Joe 2 is the best match I have ever seen. I get sad watching Joe in TNA thinking how he should be putting on clinics with Punk.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Despite what WWE ended up doing to the ECW brand it gave Punk a forum to show his stuff and get over.  For that alone the show was worth it even if it should have ended after 2007.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Well, they technically did that with Donald Trump, and it led to one of the shittiest era of WWE with the Guest Hosts.

    ReplyDelete
  17. The closest thing he does to jack is almost paralyze Jack Swagger by dropping him on his head.

    ReplyDelete
  18. It COULD be awesome if they'll actually give it a chance instead of burying Punk as the leader by having him lose all the PPV matches. Taht being said, I agree with you, this ship has probably sailed.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Can't wait for Sheamus to turn.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I rarely to never buy WWE sets but I'm making an exception for this one. Looks really great.

    ReplyDelete
  21.  A few things...

    1.  The ship will never sail on CM Punk being a cult-like leader in a stable.  He's stated that he prefers to not be in groups/stables, but it's a role he was born to play.  The Flock suggestion sounded really cool.
    2. I wish this current Slater faction would be like an anti-stable where all Slater did was lose (unless he was helped out by all of his stable members), yet, he was considered the leader of the group.  And when confronted by this fact, the more successful stablemates would just make excuses for him.  Normally, it's the leader winning everything and the rest looking like punks.  This turns it on its head and would be funny.
    3. That four horseman stable kind of kicks ass.  I'm just not sure Cody would fit in when Ziggler would probably edge him out for the Flair role.  But Bryan, Ziggler, and Barrett would be a great start.  Throw in Arn as a semi-permanent mentor and I'd go nuts.  Since Kane and Bryan are already a tag team, maybe throw in Kane--a more rounded, human Kane, that is.  Not comic relief Kane or monster Kane.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Not to mention Sheamus came from that show as well. I actually really liked the final year of that show's existence, Abraham Washington's segments were the only low points of the show, plus William Regal was somehow able to work miracles and make Vladmir Kozlov and Ezekiel Jackson watchable. For that alone, Regal should have been made head of the creative team, because if he can make those two slugs watchable then he can turn any bad idea into gold.

    ReplyDelete
  23. That stable's theme music is sooooo much better than all of the ultra-lame themes Wade Barrett has used that you would think that WWE would take the hint and give that music to Barrett already.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yeah, we got one awesome Donald Trump episode followed by nearly 200 shitty guest host episodes. I'd say that's a criminally unfair trade-off.

    ReplyDelete
  25. And considering how great the very first guest host episode was (Seth Green) that makes it even more sad although with few exceptions of course.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Number 2 is actually a really neat idea even if I'd rather see Slater win more.  I got to see his Georgia indy run in the mid-2000s and I've always been a closet fan of his.

    ReplyDelete
  27.  You'd figure Slater would HAVE to start winning more when considering how he absolutely knocked his gimmick out of the park in the weeks leading up to Raw 1000.  He's been so comfortable in the ring and on the stick that WWE would be idiots not to try new things with him.  Other than being a little freaked by his pectoral muscles or boobs, I've grown to like him with his work this year.  As always, we shall see.

  28. Yet another THREAD JACK~!  WWE just signed up with Hulu Plus to air all their programming, minus Saturday Morning Slam I think, on the service.

    ReplyDelete
  29. absolutely. I mean, some years ago we would have been arguing if any "indy guy" would get the chance to make it in the WWE. but I think now it is safe to say that Joe could have definitely been as huge as Punk or Bryan (at least on paper. both of them pretty much got over by sheer will).
