So are we fans screwed?

After the end of tonight's Raw, I really want to know, is there no fucking point screaming at how God-awful things have gotten with Cena vs Punk this fall? That come hell or high water, they plan on destroying what is left of Punk's credibility to prop up the piece of shit John Cena all in the name of having Cena get the belt and beat the Rock (another thing NO ONE but Cena and the WWE want to see)?
I came back to the WWE because of Punk and given the shit sandwich being served for three fucking hours daily, I have to ask if there is any point fucking bothering with wrestling again if the WWE seems dead set on spiting fans and fucking going out of their way to vindictively bury the only guy to give the company a sniff of mainstream attention these last couple of years, for the sin of getting over without permission and humiliating their "chosen one", who was made to look like the unliked bastard stepchild he is in real life? Should I just fucking quit watching, out of disgust and knowing that the company doesn't give a fuck about what the fans want, just what Mattel and the charity vultures want, due to it rigged marketing testing?
Jesse Baker

Sorry, what?

Comments

  1. I did. I've been strictly TNA for over a month now and it's been smooth sailing (for the most part). I don't miss WWE at all, not even the guys I really like like Punk or Ziggler, b/c I'd rather not see them than see them mistreated.

  2. There is a pretty good show on thursdays you can watch

    ReplyDelete
  3. Um, seems an overaction to a beatdown.

I assume CM Punk will wrestle the Rock at some point, based on him leaving the Rock laying on RAW that time.

Hell, if Cena is doing most the beating down, then he's more likely to lose the PPV match

    ReplyDelete
  4. The guy lost me when he called Cena a piece of shit.

Seriously, Cena's character can get annoying at times, but he's not that bad in the ring. And he sells a ton of merch and is WWE's only real draw right now.

  7. It's been building; especially after the debacle a couple of weeks back in Canada.

The WWE systematically has been crapping all over Punk, having Cena act like a cunt but treating him as some sort of saintly figure who we are supposed to cheer even though he is a hypocritical douchebag. Which in turn negates the whole "respect" angle when they have everyone acting Punk is dogshit and doesn't deserve any respect as fact, when it defies what we've actually seen this last year as far as Punk working his ass off as champion and being shunned from the main event save for one throwaway PPV Cena decided not to appear on.

And even if we do get Punk/Rock at Royal Rumble, as Scott has repeatedly stated, it's only to get the belt onto Rock so he can return the belt to Cena at WM. Which makes Punk a huge freaking paper champion who exists mainly to get the belt onto Rock so Rock can be made to bend over and kiss Cena's ass.

And putting Heyman into the angle just makes it even more laughable since it shows that they have to bring in a heat magnet to talk to Punk, because no matter how hard they try, they can't fucking  force people to do as the WWE demands of them. And even that has failed miserably.....

At this point, I would not be shocked if HITC has a non-ending too so they can further neuter Punk and "protect" Cena so that he can remain strong until WM and him beating Rock.

But yeah, why the fuck should I keep watching the show when the WWE seem absolutely full of shit when it comes to spiting their audience because they have decided that, fuck actually making money off of Punk, Cena's the only merchandise giant they will allow and moreso, the only guy who they will allow to be presented in a favorable light even as he acts like a complete cunt characterwise that is more villain than the guy they are trying to force to be the bad guy, even though the fans want to cheer him and not the one the WWE is trying to force us to cheer?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Cena was never good in the ring.

And fuck the merchandise excuse or that he's "a draw"; it's bullshit to use this when the WWE outright pointblank REFUSES to allow anyone else to get over and fucking refuses to capitalize on anyone else who does good merch numbers on the same level of Cena.

The WWE won't let anyone threaten Cena's status and will crush anyone who dares become more popular than Cena, creating a bullshit self-fullfilling prophecy: no one is allowed to be more popular than Cena or be cheered over Cena and they are crushed/jobbed out/made to look like losers and whiners until fans stop cheering for them. And because of this, the WWE has to "protect" Cena and keep him as the top guy, even if fans hate his fucking guts because hes' their only top draw, because anyone who threatens to take the spotlight from Cena is crushed like a bug, ensuring that the WWE has "no choice" but to keep Cena in the top position.

Fuck, not even HHH or Shawn Michaels ever pulled shit like this as far as rigging things backstage where the company and its asshole corporate tie-in producers think they are the only people that matter and crush the rivals to such a degree that Cena has, to ensure that the company has to keep him on top. Even HHH and Michaels had to share the spotlight, whereas Cena snipes anyone who even comes close to his spotlight.....

  10. You had me until the end.  Cena might be WWE's only real draw, but the reason for that is because they're too stubborn to give someone else a chance to draw.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Jessie:

Go to your local indy show, if you have one. Don't think about things like workrate or star ratings, ignore the blown spots and the fact the wrestlers are as green as a pack of Kools. Just go, have a couple beers (if you drink, beer is dirt cheap at indy shows, usually cheaper than bar prices) and just enjoy the atmosphere, enjoy the fact that when you tell a guy he sucks he'll drill the guy he's in the ring with and look at you with this "who sucks now, bitch?" expression, enjoy the fact that the wrestlers know that crowd's reaction should dictate the booking and that the booking shouldn't tell the crowd how to react. Don't have a local indy? Try to watch ROH TV or check out PWG/DGUSA/Chikara/EVOLVE or whatever, or maybe some lucha or puro.
It seems to me that you're not ready to give up on "wrestling", you're ready to give up on "sports entertainment". Can't say I blame you, I gave up on sports entertainment in 1999 or so. Don't blame you at all if you want to give up on Raw either, but the PPVs, workrate-wise, have been the shit. Sure, I come here and talk about this whole Cena thing because I see it and think "Goddamn, this is REALLY fucking stupid!" and I like to join in on the conversation, but deep down I don't really give a fuck at all. I watch wrestling for the in-ring action, and, at least in my eyes, the in-ring action has been fucking fantastic. Say what you want about Cena (and it's justified), but him, Punk, and Bryan have been putting on consistent ****+ matches since Wrestlemania. Hell, I hate Orton with a passion, as a character and a wrestler, and even he put on a really good match at NOC. The booking is completely in the shitter right now, but this is the most fun I've had with the sport in a long time, because the actual wrestling on the PPVs has been GREAT.

I'm thinking the storylines in the WWE (and TNA) are going to get a lot worse before they get better. Apparently so do you. So here's my suggestion: don't bother watching the TV shows, don't get all worked up about how bad they're fucking up Punk's momentum or how stupid it is that they job out guys like Ziggler or Miz or anything else. Just order/stream/YouTube-later-on all the PPVs. And just remember how bad the actual wrestling usually was at the top of the card when we started watching.

  12. Nah, I'm pretty sure "Louie" ended a couple weeks ago.

  13. I hated those guys with the shields that that you could only hit in the back. That room on the 5th dungeon where there's about a dozen of the blue ones is by far the hardest part of the game.

    ReplyDelete
  14. LOL @ Scott no selling the post.

    ReplyDelete
  15. "Emeril" has been off the air for like 10 years, dude.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Cena isn't the one calling the shots. He's known to go along with anything asked of him. So he's not holding anyone down. If anyone is doing that, it's Vince. He's known to be very protective of Cena, whom he calls his "investment" (according to a Sabu shoot, he caused a scratch on Cena's back, and Vin freaked over Sabu "damaging" his investment).

When the CM Punk experiment failed to draw in buyrates or help ratings within the first month or so last year, he was never going to get a chance as the top guy over Cena.

It's a proven fact that ratings go down when Cena's not on the show. WWE is a buyrate and ratings driven company. Nobody is bringing in Attituder era-like numbers, but Cena is the biggest star by a longshot.

Even when Cena was facing Punk, the crowds usually chanted "Lets Go Cena!" or "Cena sucks" more than any specific chant for CM Punk. Which only makes me think they care more about Cena, whether they love him or hate him.

I'm not a Cena fan. Just a realist.

    ReplyDelete
  17. So I think the question asked in the rant is why watch Raw when it makes you so angry, correct? My response to you is the same. Why are you watching something that makes you so angry? Nobody is forcing you to keep watching. Not sure why you need to ask Scott's opinion on why you are making yourself miserable. If I hated WWE as much you seem to, I think I would stop watching. Seems like a simple solution to me. Watch something else.

    ReplyDelete
  18. But I've seen nearly every episode of the Big Bang Theory in the last year thanks to TBS running them back-to-back-to-back every Thursday

    ReplyDelete
  19. So he's a paper champion because they have a planned end to his year+ reign? I don't get it

    ReplyDelete
  20. Jesse, I say this with all honesty and due respect. You have serious mental health problems. Please stop watching the show and try and find a serious health care professional to give you some sort of counseling during that time. You obviously have an unhealthy obsession which probably crosses over into other elements of your life. There are medications that can help you. I am not joking.

    ReplyDelete
  21. While there's a lot of people who have done that (stopped watching cause they hate it), there are a *lot* of people (relatively speaking), who for some reason this is not an option. Jesse Baker may be the most notorious (and over the top), but there's quite a few guys on this blog who have the "Fuck this shit... see you next Monday" attitude.

Not naming any names, but you know who you are...

    ReplyDelete
  22. What this shows me is that Jesse Baker is a draw.

Scott will keep Jesse Baker around forever because he illicits a response.

Also, every email i have tried to send Scott has been deleted. The Robbie E-mail (...achem) was okay, i thought. The List is awesome.

  24. This post is unnecessary.

    ReplyDelete
  25. The fact that he goes along with everything he's asked to do makes him just as culpable. He's not a mid-carder who's fearful of his job security...he's a guy who's main-evented numerous Wrestlemanias. If he can't see the manure that he's the central part of, then he's a definite part of the problem.

    ReplyDelete
  26. God, I hope Baker never goes. "Got Baked" is the second-best catchphrase on the Blog (you get the win, although I'll admit favoritism towards fellow Clevelanders). Reading his fantasy bookings fills plenty of dead time.

    ReplyDelete
  27. So how do we classify those of us who hate plenty of what we're seeing, but just somehow know we're fans for life, and won't walk away, come hell or highwater?

At some point we're bound to hit another "peak" where we'll love most of what we see.
Fine if that means I'm happy with it on a personal level, or for my kid, by the way.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Do you think he is aware that he is sick?

    ReplyDelete
  29. ha ha, didn't even think about that :-)

Now what I meant though.  Sure, Jesse is a bit obsessive over WWE, but your post was a tad mean.  'Tis all.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I have actually dealt with Jesse before. He used to post on a comic mailing list for the avengers. It was pretty cool, the writer and editor both used to post. They both quit after one of jesses long crazy rants about rape and making people other people's bitches. I'm not kidding. We finally banned him after going on one too many sexual assault metaphor benders. This was probably 12 years ago. He is seriously disturbed.

    ReplyDelete
  33. You guys have TNA, which is apparently now the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Bitching about being unable to watch WWE is like being able to have sex with Naomi Campbell, then complaining that Kate Moss has really let herself go.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Stop watching Jesse, best way to show your displeasure is to not watch. I don't. Reading the Raw Rant & Best & Worst of Raw on uproxx is how I watch WWE these days, and it's perfectly adequate. I watch Impact every week to get my wrestling fix.

    ReplyDelete
  38. It's a cat chasing it's own tail. Cena's the draw b/c they don't push anyone else and if anyone gets close to Cena they swat him away, and they only push him b/c he's a draw. And round and round and round it goes.

I agree that Cena's a good wrestler (if you disagree check out that NOC match w/ Punk, great stuff). And I would assume he's a nice guy in real life. But the character he plays on TV is such an overwhelming jerk that it's off-putting and makes me wish he wasn't on TV at all. I would gladly trade in all the good Cena matches for having him off my TV.

And yes the John Cena character is a piece of shit.

    ReplyDelete
  39.  I'm in the same boat. Impact is very good and Raw is boring so vote with your remote/$$$. I figure I'll switch back over around Survivor Series and then stop again after the April PPV as that seems to be the time WWE actually tries to make things good.

    ReplyDelete
  40. It just seems like if you hate it that much, then take a break from it for a while. Read the reports and start watching again when it looks interesting to you. I don't understand why turning it off is not an option. I have better things to do with my time than watching something that gets me so angry, but that's just me.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Another alternative: Watch some old stuff. I'm going through 1997 Raws and PPVs right now. Great rewatch value.

    ReplyDelete
  42.  Why is sliced bread the best thing ever?  I've always pondered that cliche...

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  49.  Because they've come right out and called the belt meaningless when Cena's not champion. They've made Punk's title reign look like a joke and they've cut Punk's balls off. Let's be honest unless Cena suffers a career ending injury or croaks he's going to be the focal point of the company for another ten years or more.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Exactly he can tell Vince to shove it and refuse to bury Punk but he won't do it. He's Vince goddamn puppet and he's pathetic. It's ironic he's wearing a shirt for cancer when he's been the biggest cancer on "this business" for years.

    ReplyDelete
  51.  Or just do what I do, download the damn thing the next day and watch it. I can finish the show in about 45 mins or less fast forwarding all the recaps and garbage. I get to watch what I like, Punk, Bryan, Kane, Sandow, Rhodes, Eve and Miz and skip the rest.

    ReplyDelete
  52. You guys keep making it like it's about Cena, but it's about your favorite not being treated like the master of the universe.  Punk is one of my favorites too but the Punk fanboy whining is getting out of control

    ReplyDelete
  53. "Hey John, we want to give you more fame, more fortune, keep you as the focal point of our company so you can be to this century what Hulk Hogan was to the last one. How does that sound?"

"Nah, give it to the other guy. He deserves it more."

No one does that. Punk wouldn't do it, either, if the situation was reversed. If my boss offered me a raise and a promotion, I wouldn't recommend that my coworker get it instead, and neither would any of you. Cena is looking out for himself, like everyone in "THIS BUSINESS" should be doing.

    ReplyDelete
  54. If only there were more storylines where one guy was paid to do another guy's dirty work.

  55. You can vote with your $ as far as PPVs go but unless you're a Nielsen family, you can't really vote with your remote as far as RAW goes, can you?

    ReplyDelete
  56.  Smart man.  This seems like the most logical thing to do if you have a loyalty towards WWE or like a few guys but not much else.  Raw is on YouTube and Hulu Plus now, so fans don't even have to go to some complicated downloading site, either.

Btw, I like your choices on who to watch.

    ReplyDelete
  57. That's not my point. I never said Cena shouldn't be the number one guy or not look out for himself.

I'm more disappointed that he just goes along with the stupidity of his angles and is the supreme company man, which is not me just spouting nonsense but has been reported thoroughly. Look, I hate John Cena with a passion but even I can admit that he's a smart and capable performer with star charisma. Yet everything he's a part of is arguably the worst thing on the show every week.

  60. The best way to fix the show is this:

Add another hour. FOUR HOUR RAW!!!

    ReplyDelete
  61. But going along with the stupid angles IS looking out for himself, because that's what the company wants him to do.

For the most part, I agree with you. Cena's character is stale and - God help me, Baker's right - hypocritical. But it seems to be the company line, so Cena toes it.

    ReplyDelete
  62.  "When the CM Punk experiment failed to..."

Didn't he become the number one t-shirt seller late last year?  Didn't each PPV experience about a 5-15% bump from the previous year's?  I still don't get how it made fiscal sense to turn Punk.

    ReplyDelete
  63.  John Cena is everything Vince wanted Shane McMahon to be.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Sadly, no, not for Raw. Although, if you're the type to watch online you can cut in to the number of SD! views and the number of hits on the website. Plus, Raw is headed to Hulu Plus so there's always that "stop watching" option.

  71. I think "if you don't like it don't watch" is a bit of a simple statement to make. I know it makes sense, but for a lot of us wrestling has been a constant in our lives since we were kids. It's frustrating that something you loved so much doesn't appeal to you anymore and you don't want to give up on it. But at the end of the day, the sad truth is that a lot of us just aren't the people they're selling the product to anymore. Personally, I'm probably done. I know I've said that years ago and eventually started to watch again, but there's nothing that appeals to me now and nothing on the horizon. I hung in there for HBK, Jericho, Edge...they're all gone. I didn't even like CM Punk all that much, but I got caught up in the "voice of the voiceless" thing because I did feel like the voiceless. He was the last hope that maybe they still care about the people who don't love John Cena - but recent events have made it clear they don't. I didn't like or understand Cena's appeal in 2005 - he came off like a goofy moron who was trying to hard to be cool. So it's been a long 7 years for me. If he's making the company millions and millions of dollars, of course, push the shit out of him for as long as you can. But personally, he doesn't appeal to me and the John Cena Era has turned myself and a good number of friends off wrestling. And Sheamus isn't going to be the guy that brings me back. I still like the concept of wrestling, which is why I'm giving TNA a shot. If the Monday Nighter stinks I'll throw Raw on just to have it on but I'm not emotionally invested. I just want to know what's going on so I can talk about it here, if that makes sense. But aside from a Steve Austin or Shawn Michaels comeback, I'm probably done really caring about WWE.

    ReplyDelete
  72.  Someone got hit on the head with a hammer on Impact. That's not exactly better TV.

    ReplyDelete
  73. So wait... Impact is good now? Wasn't it like a month or so ago that people were complaining about how awful it is?

And I've taken a break from WWE since about 2002 and have yet to be interested in going back.

    ReplyDelete
  74.  If Cena was the only draw, WWE wouldn't be doing as well as they are. Rey Mysterio is a draw, Orton is a draw, Sheamus is a draw, Zack Ryder is a draw, CM Punk is a draw. If there's one thing you learn from watching wrestling is that people come for different reasons. Not every kid is wearing Cena gear. There's Ryder kids and Rey kids and Sheamus kids. There are more draws than just Cena. Then you have the adults wearing Orton and Punk shirts.

The fact that I constantly see "Cena is the only draw" as argument for him being on top as well as the "he's the only draw because WWE protects him" is proof that you guys are completely and utterly wrong. He's the top draw, he's not the only draw.

    ReplyDelete
  75. What? Do you think the only issue I have with Raw is that Cena used a pipe on Punk last night? What are you talking about?

This past week on Impact I saw Austin Aries & Bully Ray have an awesome match, a very good tag match (AJ Styles & Kurt Angle vs Chavo & Hernandez) & an awesome brawl between James Storm & Bobby Roode. I saw Hulk Hogan try as best he can to deal with an anonymous force that has been making his job very difficult in a logical manner.

What it didn't have was an ass-hat baby talk into a mic, make jokes an 8 year old should find immature, & emasculate the champion who is also his top competitor.

Oh, but I guess your right, that really interesting hard-hitting wrestling show featured Joseph Parks get hit in the head with a hammer as part of the main storyline, it must not have been that good.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Well...thanks for stopping by then, I guess.

No, no one was complaining that Impact was awful a month ago. It's been mostly great for several months.

    ReplyDelete
  77.  Incorrect. Cena in the past year has been a part of some of the best WWE programs. Punk/Cena, Rock/Cena, and Lesnar/Cena. Without him to play the foil to these men, you wouldn't have been so excited to see each one try and humble Cena. Cena as a character is built up as this dude who never loses. So, the smarks that run around are happy when someone challenges that status quo where as the little kids are happy Cena will overcome the odds.

Calling Cena a cancer to this business is wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  78. The best part about this is there's a shred of a halfway decent point buried in there, but it's just impossible to extract from Jesse's total, indisputable, brainless insanity.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Mine too, though I don't really care for the 3D ones. I'm hoping they do an updated 2D version of Zelda, like they did with Mario and Donkey Kong Country.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I agree. That's what a lot of people have been saying here in this very post. But that's not how WWE portrays it. They shove Cena in front of everyone else at the expense of other talent.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I still don't get the assumption that's out there that Sheamus is their next big thing. The reason I don't get it is there's nothing we've actually seen to base it on. When he starts being treated as half as big of a deal as CM Punk, let me know. Because so far, he's been treated like a midcarder with a midcard belt while Punk has been re-elevated to the top star on the show. Yes, I absolutely feel like he's been portrayed as more important than John Cena the last couple months. A lot of people are too caught up in being upset he turned heel to realize this. Yes, it's probably all leading to Cena recapturing the belt and facing Rock again, and that's kind of a bummer. Oh well.

  85. I'm not going to read through this entire thread because the nesting of responses to various comments doesn't seem to be working right, at least on my computer.  However I simply wanted to say that when you get to the point that Jesse Baker is at, turn off the show.  Seriously.  I stopped watching years ago (it tapered off in 2004ish and stopped completely after Eddie's death).  I have tons of DVD sets though.  I've got the WM, summerslam, and RR sets.  I've got the 2 survivor series sets they put out.  I've got 40 or 50 (maybe more, not going to count) wrestler or promotion sets.  I've got all the KOTRs and IYHs up until 2001 to watch too.  And I enjoy it all.  I get my wrestling fix without the hassle of being angry and frustrated at WWE or TNA (too much stuff DVRing on thursday to give TNA a chance these days, sorry got burned too many times to drop Parks & Rec, Office, Big Bang Theory, Vampire Diaries, or the wife's Glee, plus there is football).

If you don't have DVD sets and old tapes, watch youtube or dailymotion.  But honestly it isn't worth it to bang your head against the wall, to have that kind of rage in your life, and watch the WWE.  You can still get your wrestling fix without Raw or SD or whatever.  Order WWE 24/7 or the online only service they have.  Check out stuff on Netflix or HuluPlus.  There are other options.  But I for one don't want to see you shooting people from the roof of a building before turning your gun on yourself while screaming curse words at Vince McMahon.

    10. Most talented roster for workrate since the early 00's

That's 10 extremely solid reasons to dvr the wwe. Imo the show has gottens so much better since the dark days of the guest host era.

  87. I watch on satellite and live in Canada.  Thus, if I were to try to vote with my remote, I doubt it would make any difference to the ratings.  I could be wrong though.

  88. On a lighter note, someone has begun to review Chyna's latest film as though it were an actual wrestling show.  As it made me laugh, I thought I'd share: http://www.cagesideseats.com/2012/9/25/3380898/kanenites-review-of-chyna-is-queen-of-the-ring-part-one

  89. Well, Smackdown is the Sheamus show, so there's that. I think they're trying to establish him as a dominant force on Smackdown while still showcasing him on Raw, before the eventual move to Raw. It's just that with the way they treat most people the bar for pushes has been lowered considerably so if Sheamus is on every show and isn't made to look like a loser 50% of the time than that's a pretty significant push these days.

My attitude towards it all is starting to become like a Kevin James or Adam Sandler movie. There's nothing necessarily wrong with enjoying it if you do, but I really don't, and there's no point in sitting in the theater complaining about how stupid it is.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Yeah pretty much at this point if this makes you THIS angry, you should turn it off for awhile....and realize that you aren't in their target demographic at this point.  I came to that realization awhile ago, so if something comes on that I don't care for, I mute the tv and do something else, or turn the channel to something else completely.  I was actually a regular viewers for years until about 3 or 4 years ago where my life got hectic and watching wrestling on Monday nights became MUCH less important so I didn't watch for awhile.  I just came back somewhat regularly about a couple of years ago and I'd have to say that break did wonders for my enjoyment of the product....even though I know it's not tailored to me anymore.

  91. Hey, if you're comfortable playing arm-chair psychologist online over some wrestling posts, be my guest.  I'm not.

    ReplyDelete
  92.  Uh, do you remember the ratings Smackdown got when Orton was champ?  Not a draw.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Not if you have hand-eye coordination.

  94. Uh, Aces & Eights have kidnapped and tortured a lawyer on public television.  They are also not a part of TNA.  CALL THE COPS!

  95.  So, when do we get our "WWE Guest Host Era" 3-disc DVD???

  96. Alright, Slice Bread wsan't that great, but surely you must admit that Sliced Bread #2 was pretty awesome?

    ReplyDelete
  97. I thought the main storyline parts of Raw were pretty good!

    ReplyDelete
  98. What's with the "No one but Cena wants to see". I'm pretty sure he doesn't care what happens in his Rock feud. He's a made man. Be pissed at him 'cause he's boring but he's pretty secure in his position.

    ReplyDelete
  99.  Louie still has one episode left this season, next Thursday. It kills me to say it but this season has been God awful. It's basically not a comedy anymore, just a weird indie drama in show form.

    ReplyDelete
  100.  I agree with this. Even if things aren't clicking right now, it hasn't been that long since everything was clicking like a motherfucker and it's tough to just go "well it's done now". It takes a long sustained period of non-enjoyment to shake most people off. Plus there's little rays of hope here & there.

  101.  "Alcoholism" is a psychological condition, supposedly, and I'm sure you've accused me of that!

    ReplyDelete
  102. FUCK that reminds me I keep forgetting to fill out my Nielsen research paperwork. I'd love to have that kind of power.

    ReplyDelete
  103. I've been living on the other side of the world for almost ten years now, so I never get to see the shows live...best for me is refreshing this blog and reports on some other sites. I watch on YouTube the next day - full show if it sounded good, clips of what I want to see if it didn't. Know what? Completely enjoyable the whole time, except I usually miss the surprises because I've read about them first.

    ReplyDelete
  104.  How do you remember?  You were drunk.  j/k

I don't think I did in a serious tone, but if I did, shame on me and my apologies.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Yeah, it's totally gone off the rails this year, and even last year. I only mentioned because it's the only show I can think of that's on Thursday.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Probably never; I would not be shocked if most if not all of the guest hosts had deals in play saying that they would do the show but they can't be used for home video.

IE the same shit that led to half of the landmark "Space Ghost Coast 2 Coast" series being declared unreleasable on DVD, due to guest only doing the show so long as the episodes only aired on TV.....

    ReplyDelete
  107. Although the Hugh Jackman segments were released on the Zack Ryder DVD.

  108. DVR works wonders in curing anger.
Ever since I quit watching the shows live, I'm not nearly as angry at WWE's incompetence as I used to be. I enjoy quite a lot of the stuff that's on RAW now, but yeah it's much better to just skip the John Cena stuff than to be irrationaly mad about it. And it's not like I'm the only one either, about 3 million people are skipping John Cena's segments every week as well.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Yay, that way they could claim to be the only four hour wrestling show ever! Except for numerous ROH shows, the Crockett Cup events, every Jim Cornette shoot interview and the 18-hour shoot interview Ric Flair did a few years back.
Not to mention the giant majority of Wrestlemania, including WrestleMania XX which was five hours long and headlined by Chris Beno.....I mean, Shane McMahon.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Wow, that is seriously fucked up.
And I agree, Jesse has gotten insane with these posts, his hatred towards John Cena is starting to reach Sandra Bullock stalker levels.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Yeah, if a TV show makes you so angry that you start making insane rants about wishing rape and death upon someone, maybe you need to make a change in your life. Or at the very least, just stop watching (or at least just FF'wd through the stuff you hate).

Look, I hate "reality" shows (except for La La Land, why oh why was that show ever cancelled?), but that doesn't mean I'm going to blow up Mark Burnett's home just because he invented it, I just skip it and watch something that's actually good, like "Warehouse 13", "Pretty Little Liars" or my old tapes of "Joe Bob Briggs' Drive-In Theater".

I didn't bomb the Corus headquarters just because they made the colossally stupid decision to cancel "Vampire High", I just decided to say "fuck you" to them by never watching any of their shitty channels again.

I mean seriously Jesse, you do realize there's many, many other options available, right? This isn't exactly like 30 years ago when there were only three channels available in almost every market. There's enough choices out there that you shouldn't be going insane just because one person decides that he can't go away for one week because he loves what he's doing too much.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Yeah if Randy Orton is a draw, then JBL is Hulk Hogan if you compare the Smackdown ratings of both guys' runs on top.

    ReplyDelete
  113. The Chris Isaak Show hasn't been on the air in eight years and that show aired on Saturdays anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  114. It's an absolutely FANTASTIC weird indie drama, though.

And while I agree that the show has done much less "general" comedy this season, I do still find myself laughing several times per episode. Plus, it's not like he's never done drama on the show before, he's had a few that pretty much had no comedic elements to them; him going to Afghanistan was (IMO) incredibly powerful. He's doing more drama now, but it's hardly the first time.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Sounds like this guy needs to find someone to hug it out with.

(can someone hire drew hankinson for him?)

    ReplyDelete
  116. Did I miss something cuz SGC2C was released on dvd.

    I have it.

  117. I remember when Jesse Baker used to write comic book reviews. When Villains United came out, one review he did was a giant rant on how Vandal Savage quit the Secret Society, and Lex Luthor should've killed him over that, because Lex wouldn't take that from a nobody like Savage. That was the entire focus of the review. Months later, it turned out that it wasn't really Lex Luthor running the Society, but Alexander Luthor, his alternate Earth doppleganger, invalidating Baker's entire point. I could be happy with just this, because it still makes me laugh, but it's not enough. Not yet.

I DEMAND A RETRACTION, JESSE BAKER.

  118. linkage plz?

id love to read some baked comic reviews

  119. "Cena was never good in the ring."

Scott, post the next topic. We are done here. I understand he is getting the hits/traffic for you, but if you can keep this guy. BRING BACK ELVYLANDA!!!

At least now TNA is good.

He would probably shit on the product now though.

    ReplyDelete
  120. In all fairness, that ziggler v kofi match was as good as or better than anything workrate wise on impact lately. But yeah we are getting two plus 3/3.5 star matches on impact every week.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Then I really should check that match out!

    ReplyDelete
  122. I just want to point out one thing to the anti-cena people. Cena has made more guys from his #1 spot than most big stars in a similar position.
    1. He got edge over big time, had a great feud with him. That wasn't just edge by himself, and edge became a much bigger star after working with cena.
    2. He MADE cm punk (even though punk was already a big star, cena put punk on that top level)
    3. Cena made the miz. Yeah we all know he jobbed to him at wm27 but cena got the miz over way before that by allowing miz to destroy him on the mic. Miz came out and started clowning cena a year before that wrestlemania, maybe more, and cena showed tons of ass on the mic and miz got over big.
    4. Unlike huntor, cena did what he could for orton, raising orton up to the level of a true superstar.
5.Cena also 100% put over RVD as a major star. He let rvd look cooler in the promos leading up to that match and then made rvd look awesome at the ecw ppv.

Thats 5 guys off the top of my head who cena helped become super duper stars that could carry a wrestling promotion. He knows how to get guys over, is close to being an elite worker, can work the mic, and ladies/kids love him. I don't really get having any problem with cena.

I do agree the cancer thing is beyond tasteless, and the poopy pants promos are embarrassing. Cena is just an awesome wrestler who has bullshit booking behind him. If the stories about him refusing to turn heel because he's worried about charity work are true then cena is a huge mark for himself, just like bret, vince, hbk, bruno and a million other guys. Hard to hold that against him.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Agreed on Cena making Edge, Punk, and Orton.

Can't really say Cena made The Miz, bc I don't think Miz has been made at all (man that kinda sounded like gibberish). Miz has pretty much been Randy Ortoned (circa 2004), meaning Cena played the role of Chris Benoit by putting the guy over, then the system just crushed him. Now he's nowhere near as over as he was back 2010 (sigh).

Also can't agree about RVD, in fall of 01 ALL the top stars jobbed to RVD on various Raws & SD's (he legit pinned Austin, The Rock, & Undertaker in that time frame). Though the WWE machine never fully got behind RVD, he was molten lava over for pretty much the rest of his WWE run after that (and would most likely be accepted as a huge star by the fans should he return). If anything I think working with the ECW guys mostly benefited Cena, gaining him more cred as a main eventer.

I am an anti-Cena person, and he (or at least how he's booked) is the reason that I don't care to watch WWE. I agree that he's a great wrestler, it's just that for me his presence sucks the fun out of the room to the point where I can't enjoy it. This isn't a "woe is me" type deal, I recently started watching Impact and that gives me my wrestling fix. I think that all the charity work he does makes him an amazing person, but has no place being that big a part of the show. And the fact that it is kinda sucks the sincerity out of it (the cancer stuff is a big example).

Just wanted to show some Cena-haters can have a balanced opinion.

  124. please do, and watch Community a lot when it comes back next month

    ReplyDelete
  125.  True but last season he did really emphatic weird indie drama and was also gut bustingly hilarious the whole time. Whereas this season had one episode that was generally funny throughout ("Barney/Never") and a bunch of character building ones that maybe had some funny stuff but often didn't. I haven't been too into this whole runner with the Late Show business, all the Liz Tape Recorder stuff was interesting as its own little thing but I'm still waiting for Pam's reappearance, and that Miami episode was just mirthless crap. The MVP of this season has been the little girl playing Jane, if Louie's smart he'll make most of next season about his relationship with his girls and make them more of the focus because they're the best thing about that show right now and were always one of the best things, and he needs to keep that girl in a cushy role before she bolts for something else.

    ReplyDelete
  126.  Oh believe me, that's a given. Although to be honest now that Dan Harmon is gone I get the feeling it's just going to be a zombie of its former self and it's just gonna be a study group about Barney Stinson, Dee Reynolds, Black Woman Ned Flanders, Leslie Knope, Sheldon Cooper, Black Andy Dwyer, and Arthur Spooner. Some of those things are not bad things in their own shows but they'll seem like shallow caricatures when played by the cast of Community.

    ReplyDelete
  127.  Sadly, I couldn't find the review in question - I remember it being on the ComicsNexus section of InsidePulse, a long while ago. But that site's been through so many changes that I think a lot of the old articles were totally nuked.

I'll keep trying to find his reviews, but until then, here's some Wikpedia fun with Jesse Baker vs. John Byrne's article! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:John_Byrne/Archive_3

    ReplyDelete
  128. It was 411mania, but all the links to his reviews are dead. I think they deleted their comics section, as far as I can see. It's a shame - they were funny as hell.

    ReplyDelete
  129.  It was 411mania, but their comics section is gone - looks like those reviews are lost. It's a shame, they were funny as hell.

  130.  Thanks it's been the only way I've been able to watch for a while. Had to choose between cable or internet to save money, internet of course won. Haven't had cable since about 07. The only WWE show I watch without fast forwarding is NXT right now.
