Hi Scott,

This is non-wrestling related, but if you think it's suitable for sharing I'd appreciated it being posted on the blog.

Cheers,
Tom

Have you ever seen Ridley Scott's ALIEN? If so, then we are interested in hearing from you! A team of researchers from universities in the UK are asking people to go to www.remembering-alien.org to share their recollections of a fantastic piece of film history. Young or old, whether you liked or hated it, we want your help in seeing how people have responded to the film over the years. We look forward to hearing from you!

  1. I give it ****3/4, would love to give it the full monty but it was too methodical (read: slow as shit) at times.

  2. It's a good movie but I like Aliens much better. Anyone with me on that?

  3. I agree, Aliens had much better editing/pacing plus it didn't look like it was filmed via a shoestring budget unlike the first movie.

  4. Aliens was an action movie, Alien was a horror movie. Your genre preferences usually answer what movie you like better.

  5. I liked Alien, but Aliens blew it away in my opinion. A bit like my reasoning for not enjoying Blade Runner so much, I find Ridley Scott's movies too slow paced and trying way to hard to put over a message than some actual action. Aliens took what was a great concept in the Alien movie and added some 'umphh' to it.

  6. Can't believe the hate Alien is getting.

  7. Yeah, I definitely prefer Aliens. IMO Alien hasn't aged well.

  8. Yeah, I find the opposite is true -- Aliens has aged poorly to me, where Alien has a really timeless quality. The mood, pacing, and set design of Alien really stand out for me. Excellent cinematography and camera work too -- even though I haven't seen it in years, certain shots and sequences have really stuck with me. Alien is a much darker movie in terms of tone and just plain more powerful emotionally, I feel a palpable sense of futility, claustrophobia and hopelessness.

Aliens isn't a bad movie, but it doesn't have the same emotional heft for me. It just feels like a well-made 80s action / effects sequence film where you're just waiting to see how the good guys will save the day. It's one that you can pull out and watch once in awhile, but it's not a masterpiece. I'll admit though, I'm not particularly into action oriented science fiction.

  9. Good point, I think that plays a big part in it.

Where some people feel like Alien is too slow and cheap looking, I find the slow pace and starkness of it's presentation really appealing. It reminds me a little bit of Stanley Kubrick's 2001 in that aspect, which I also love.

  10. Aliens better than Alien? Blasphemy.

  11. alien and aliens is like apple and oranges. there both classics.

  12. Alien is a classic, it was amazing as an adult going back and and gaining a deeper appreciation for actors like John Hurt, Ian Holm, and Veronica Cartwright after seeing them in other films.

Aliens is also a classic, but of the action variety, rather than horror like Alien. Nothing beats Ripley overcoming her fear of the creature and going toe to toe with them in an effort to rescue Newt. And Paul Reiser is a dick.

  13. The Blu-Ray makes it look like it was shot yesterday.
