WWE network hypothetical

Its your blog mvp the fuj and i gotta question for you and the BOD-ites...

If wwe does ever launch... What would they show on during raw/smackdown et al?

I couldnt see them showing raw/nitro from 97-98 (when it was good) and lose more viewers to themselves essentially. But they wouldn't have dead air cuz thats just a waste of money. I just dont see how they could have original raws on usa when on the wwe network you have wcw saturday night from 1982 running opposite amd think that someone like me would honestly watch raw in its current state.

thoughts?

v/r
Hollywood.

I don't think you can just declare yourself the blog MVP.  I think there's a voting process or something.

As for the network, what to show against RAW is the least of their troubles with it thus far.  Given that the network, should it ever launch, is going to have an audience of maybe 100,000 total viewers at any given time, MAYBE, I'm safely confident it won't matter one bit what they put in that timeslot.  Nobody is paying HBO prices for their third-rate "network" when 24/7 is already a spectacular failure.

Comments

  1. BREAKING: Parts Unknown, and its (x) amount of electoral votes has been called for Jesse Baker.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Who was the hired gun who rigged the voting?

    ReplyDelete
  3. They could just air a PPV preview or some sort of recap show during Raw/Smackdown/Main Event, so we aren't missing anything new. Now if they got Sheiky Baby to host a weekly show, I'd be sold.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Live Twitter/Tout feed. Really not different from what the NFL Network does with their live scoreboard during the early games.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Maybe they'll just air that Backstage Fallout stuff they put on wwe.com. Have a secondary announce team in the locker room getting live interviews with people after their match/segment. Perhaps when a match goes to commercial the WWE Network can pick up the action (though I can't see USA liking that.)

    ReplyDelete
  6. Probably just crappy movies nobody wants to see or reruns of their "original shows" or whatever.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Just do a 'while it airs' recap of the events. So you get Matt Stryker/whoever discussing storylines etc. Throw in behind the scenes interviews etc...

I don't think the blog could run with just one MVP. I think it'd require a team.

I'd say myself, Fuj, Cult, and Jobber. I'd also be willing to allow Ryan into the fold, as he can have a difference of opinion without being an ass about it, plus he gets drunk on here sometimes.

How is 24/7 a massive failure? I don't see how wrestling fans don't love it. Sure, it could use more content, but it's a good day at the office every time it updates. They have some fantastic shit sometimes, plus the current PPVs are great, and I love the Monday Night Wars stuff.

  9. Do what the NFL network does during the superbowl or the NBA network during the NBA finals or the MLB network does during the world series.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Less than 100k for subscriptions makes it a massive failure.

do you think that'd be the norm no matter what the ondemand selection was?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Who was the guy who used to write for the blog who's reviews were entirely too long and long winded, was really mean to anyone who disagreed with him, and spent weeks upon weeks over-analyzing HHH Vs Undertaker from WM27?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Caliber_Winfield_69420BoobiesNovember 20, 2012 at 10:40 AM

That was Charlie Reneke. Funny you mention him, as I just brought him up about 3 posts below this one.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Not a coincidence. I saw that but wasn't sure it was the same person, so I asked the blog lol

  15. Caliber_Winfield_69420BoobiesNovember 20, 2012 at 10:42 AM

Yeah, he posted this big post about how he was done writing about wrestling, and how wrestling fans are pathetic, and how he was leaving. It was so pathetic, and painfully obvious he just wanted attention because when you really want to leave some where, you just leave. You don't beg people to pay attention.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Yes I remember that well, and thought the same thing. I wasn't active in the comments section when he was around, would love to see Charlie and Chin or Jesse Baker go at it

    ReplyDelete
  17. Fuj is Montell Vontavious Porter. You're the Brooklyn Brawler spin-off.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Imo his goodbye was the greatest post ever in bod history

    ReplyDelete
  19. You are the Paul Roma of that foursome.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I wouldn't be surprised if they put Smackdown on the channel. The contract with Syfy is supposedly up soon.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Don't know; I don't get any of those channels. However, it would be the same situation as WWE when Raw or any ppv is on.

    ReplyDelete
  22. If anyone that reads this blog and has access to that channel and does not subscribe to it you are out of your mind. Well worth the 10 bucks a month or whatever it is. I love that channel so much

    ReplyDelete
  23. So the actually channel is still dead in the water right?

    ReplyDelete
  24. 24/7 is a massive success in my life

    ReplyDelete
  25. They announced last conference call that they going forward with it using the HBO model. Which I would be fine with if it was like how Classics on Demand works. But I'm not paying money for shitty reality shows about divas.

    ReplyDelete
  26. A MARINE MARATHON!!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I've only seen it once but I remember the first one being decent in a random Sunday afternoon kind of way.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm assuming they just play the Superbowl or World Series.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I have not heard a word from Charlie since his meltdown and departure. Unless he's masquerading as someone else.

    ReplyDelete

Dammit. I knew it was too good to be true.

    ReplyDelete
  31. If WWE gets viewers to watch the Network instead of Raw, is that really a bad thing for them? The viewers are still watching WWE instead of their competition. USA obviously wouldn't be happy, but most of the people that would watch some old show from the 1980s when Raw is on probably aren't watching Raw anyway. If they show classic wrestling head-to-head with Raw, they just need to air the same shows multiple times so people who watch Raw can also watch those shows. If people know that this week's episode of NWA Saturday Night from the 1980s airs head-to-head with Raw, but will be replayed at midnight, they'll DVR the replay if they care about Raw and they'll watch the head-to-head airing if they don't.

  32. I believe we should have two official BoD votes:

    1. Who is the official BoD MVP?
    2. Should Charlie (even if it IS an impostor) be allowed back?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Is it available on Time Warner Cable? I was under the impression it wasn't, although I haven't checked. I would totally subscribe and spend all my free time (well, most of it, anyway) watching it.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Plus a million for the wonderfully obscure Simpsons reference.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'm a made man around here, I don't get to be MVP since I'm part of the establishment. Thank you for the kudos though.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Charlie went on full meltdown blast, I think he deleted his Facebook even. He'd probably want to come around since I took down He Whose Name I'm Not Allowed to Speak.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'm sure they'll just cobble together an infomercial/clip show like they run before PPVs to run during that space.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Well, he did just vanish more or less, and then a post went up where for whatever reason a "where'd Charlie go" thread got started and then within a day or two he'd posted that diatribe against us in explanation.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Jesse gets my vote.
He's been bringing the crazy for so damn long, you've gotta recognize that.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I subscribed for a few months a couple of years back, and it is pretty cool.
I grew up on 95% WWF, with a little bit of Crockett and very occasional AWA thrown in, so it was just cool to see the territory stuff for the first time.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Unless I've missed someone else writing 40,000 word comments around here then I think it's safe to say he's gone.

    ReplyDelete
  42. They can't...the major networks have sole TV rights to those and even official league networks can't touch that. I honestly don't know what they show...I'd assume just some ongoing live coverage.

    ReplyDelete
  43. It is a bad thing b/c then USA is pissed and next time they negotiate the contract WWE will likely lose money. That being said, Scott is right in pointing out that the number of people watching will be miniscule so it probably doesn't matter.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I'd bet a lot of money that Charlie is still posting here under an alias.

Wouldn't it be fun if it actually turned out that Scott and Charlie were the same person the whole time? Epic BoD swerve...

    ReplyDelete
  45. NBA TV usually just shows a repeat of a studio show they've already aired 100x. I'd imagine WWE would do the same.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I had it for awhile but then cancelled when I realized that between new content, a massive VHS/DVD collection and Youtube I already have an unwatchable amount of wrestling stuff to watch.

    ReplyDelete
  47. What would exactly make you become the MVP of this blog anyway?

    ReplyDelete
  48. It was vintage Charlie.

Shame, because I quite enjoyed his work.

    ReplyDelete
  49. He wrestles about as well as Chris Benoit does these days.

  51. Me? I never advocated me! I was offering up an option for the real MVPs of the BoD.

I'm barely even a rook, I know better.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Sorry, it wasn't meant to be directed towards you, it was just a general question

    ReplyDelete
  53. Forgive me for being totally out of this. But did I miss some actual shit storm that happened? I mean, I was there for Charlie's...whatever, but is some wrestler feuding with the BoD or something?

    ReplyDelete
  54. http://www.rspwfaq.net/2012/08/wtf.html

Read that thread. It was pretty funny.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Weird, I was in that thread, didn't see any of that that shit though.

The internet is a funny place, And if Fuj ran, I'd vote for him.

    ReplyDelete
  56. NFL Net shows the scores with some radio feeds during the games, NBA shows studio shows with cut ins to some games.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Caliber_Winfield_69420BoobiesNovember 21, 2012 at 7:05 AM

The best part of that thread was when Charlie, who's a complete zero, an absolute fucking hack, kept trying to egg Ryan into some low-class bullshit with "go molest your kid, molester!" Just some total, absolute, bottom of the barrel low-class bullshit and Ryan was a total man by not even acknowledging it. Charlie kept trying. Ryan wouldn't bite. Well done.

    ReplyDelete
  58. VERY FUNNY STILL.

In tears. Literally in tears Ryan Murphy brava... brava!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Blog MVP criteria

    1. You gotta have the likes/upvotes (cultstatus)
    2. controversy creates comments (Caliber/Jesse Baker)
    3. Generally funny/witty (David LONGASSLASTNAME Montgomery/Jef Vinson)
    4. Post whore (Jobber/Chan)
    5. above average knowledge of wrestling (Flair4dagold/Nwa88/Fuj)

That right there is a 5 tool poster. Of course no one is HBK, but you hit 3 or more then Im pretty sure the blog would hold you in some regard.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I have DISH. And my sanity still, sometimes.
