Comment of the Day
EricGriffith feels Cena as a face could have worked, had this happened:
You know when they messed up? The PPV after WM last year. They had EVERYONE (even the smarks) sympathizing with Cena during that beat down at the hands of Lesnar. If they had just pulled the trigger and given Lesnar the win and done an injury angle with Cena it would have been maybe possible to get him full face. The storytelling possibilities with Lesnar and Cena from there would have been endless. Presumably leading to monster Brock FINALLY getting his comeuppance after a year of bloodying everyone.

On This Day...
ECW held the Hostile City Showdown, where Sabu/RVD took on The Dudleys in the main event. (1998) (Below is their FMW match from the same year)

  1. Cancelling the IC Cup so Barrett can feud with Bo Dallas is asinine. Why can't there be more than one person challenging for a title at a given time? Isn't that what makes a division?

    ReplyDelete
  2. My first comment of the day on BoD! I'm way more excited about this than I should be...

    ReplyDelete
  3. TNA going on the road could potentially be a good thing if it leads to them realizing that the Hardy groupies at the Impact Zone don't reflect the real audience.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I'm hoping Generico doesn't have to spend too much time in developmental.

    ReplyDelete
  5. If they were intent on having Bo Dallas feud with Barrett couldn't they have rebooked the tournament so it would have focused on Bo Dallas. They could have created an angle in which he took Darren Young's spot (he didn't wrestle this week due to an injury sustained at the Rumble). Then they could have booked the tournament as a Cinderella story in which Dallas emerged triumphant and Barrett is forced to acknowledge the young upstart. If booked right it would have given the fans a chance to learn more about Dallas and decide whether to embrace him. Plus he would have interacted with other members of the roster.

Personally I think his brother Bray Wyatt is the one with the bigger upside (much more charisma, personality, a more versatile worker, and an amazing gimmick) but hey maybe there is more to Dallas than what we have seen so far. Personally I think they should give Dallas an overhaul before pushing him to the main roster. It worked for the Shield (trust me, they are better off with that gimmick then if they debuted with the ones they used in NXT and FCW) but Bo Dallas as smiling babyface may be harder to embrace. They should have placed him in some type of tag team with a more charismatic personality if they wanted to put him on the main roster.

    ReplyDelete
  6. They had
EVERYONE (even the smarks) sympathizing with Cena during that beat down
    at the hands of Lesnar.

Uh, no. And no. And by the way, a big fat no.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Yeh, I remember hearing a lot about this Bo guy. Then I saw him and just thought "hmm... really?". Maybe 15-20 years ago, but the whole smily guy with long greasy hair thing died out long ago.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Only speaking for myself here, but I could totally see what he meant because there were points in the match upon first viewing where I thought, "Wow, Brock is being a total dick and I actually feel bad for the ass beating Cena is taking right now." Then it all went to shit when he Super Cena'd up, but I understand where he's coming from.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I'm watching Raw in bits and pieces, just got to the Sandow/Sheamus match, did they announce the IC Title Cup Tournament on the show at all?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Yeah, I don't recall anyone, even here, saying "boy I feel bad for that John Cena. Brock is such a bully!"

    ReplyDelete
  11. Hey, hey, hey...Scotty Riggs is a blue chipper.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Yes! Which is why it makes the whole thing even more ridiculous. Just jumping straight in to an IC Title feud, Barrett/Dallas. Seems really dumb to me. It was the perfect opportunity to build Dallas up. Why would people care about him right about now?

    ReplyDelete
  13. I'm down voting this because I don't want the push to go to your head...

    ReplyDelete
  14. I think that everyone would be helped by joining a tag team to start. And I agree. Why not just have Bo Dallas win the tournament. Wouldn't he seem like a more credible threat?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Bo reminds me of his dad, Mike Rotundo, before IRS. Someone who is a decent worker but is not that charismatic. Watching old footage of the U.S. Express in the WWF, it was obvious that Barry Windham was the one full of charisma while Mike was along for the ride. The direction of the rest of Mike's first WWF stint bared this out where he was basically a JTTS before he left. Heck, Mike didn't really find the right persona until he became IRS. Bo needs something like an "IRS" to really standout. As it stands he looks and works like a southern wrassling refugee from 1988, not such a good thing in 2013 WWE.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I think they're going for the Twilight/Jeff Hardy crowd with him. In fact they should give him a Gangrel-esque gimmick imo.

    ReplyDelete
  17. The problem with Wyatt is going to be WWE creative knowing how to write that kind of character. Look how fast they reveted Tensai back to just being Albert.

    ReplyDelete
  18. That's not a bad idea but does he have the personality to pull it off?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Pshaw! Captain Mike Rotunda from the varsity club was awesome and a pretty good tv champ.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Heck the Twilight thing would work much better if they used his real name, Taylor.

    ReplyDelete
  21. TNA going on the road is a great move in the right direction although I would guess that Hardy will still be the most over guy regardless of city.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I liked the Varsity Club but you could argue that Kevin Sullivan as the evil taskmaster and Rick Steiner as the sympathetic toady are the ones who carried that gimmick.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Mike was the work horse centerpiece and the tv champ. He played a great heel in that role and boy did I hate him. Then again, I was 13-14 years old and far from smart, so my perception could be off.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Wait, wasn't Dallas going to be in the tournament?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hmm I don't know, he's defo got the look for it. Would be an interesting change from the "babyface rookie surprised by his own victories" route they seem to be going

    ReplyDelete
  26. Intercontinental Cup?

AIN'T NOBODY GOT TIME FOR THAT

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'm hoping they don't totally eviscerate his gimmick. Change his name if you gotta (as long as it's not to something stupid), but if they're just gonna unmask him and make him a random guy than I don't see the point.

    ReplyDelete
  28. The huge pop Cena got for the win speaks for itself. That win was the most the crowd has been behind him in the past few years... because Brock beat the shit out of him repeatedly.

I'd still like to know what that promo at the end was all about. Nothing ever came of it.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm not playing the role of jerk here, but I've never seen him wrestle... what's his gimmick other than he wears a mask?

    ReplyDelete
  30. He's a white, ginger Mexican Luchador from Tijuana whos owns an orphanage in Mexico. Gimmick aside, he's one of the most exciting wrestlers to watch.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yea, that seemed odd. Kind of like a dark match promo and the PPV feed was just still running.

    ReplyDelete
  32. That pretty well sums it up. Ole!

    ReplyDelete
  33. It's too bad too, I set my DVR to record Main Event just to see the tournament unfold. Guess the WWE doesn't want to give their fans any reasons to watch a C-show. Well, they have solid matches, but meaningful solid matches.

    ReplyDelete
  34. There's immaculate backstage comedy to craft, the writers can't waste their precious time with wrestling.

    ReplyDelete
  35. They could honestly do this in one RAW if they wanted. It would be a great way to showcase the midcard talent.

    ReplyDelete
  36. As I recall, the man was over while in the WWE as well.

    ReplyDelete
  37. NON-WRESTLING THREADJACK!!!:

When the Manti Te'o story broke we had a mini-discussion on whether an openly gay NFL player would be accepted in the locker room. I was shocked at the naivete shown by some of the posters here, who didn't seem to think a gay player would face much oppositon from teammates/opponents.

I present to you Chris Culliver, voice of the silent majority. And if you're wondering why more guys don't speak up, just look at the shit-storm he kicked up with his comments. That's why most guys don't bring this up in the media.
P.S. How much does it suck that the Teo story ended up with the lamest possible explaination (no secret gay love affair? no fame-hungry, Hesiman-coveting sociopath?)?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Yeah, I was disappointed too. I always love a good tournament a la KotR or the awesome 2005(?) RAW Gold Rush.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Surprisingly simple explanation. Although that Tuisassasopo dude brings up some interesting things.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Oh Dixie...you just don't seem to get it. WWE doesn't regard TNA as anymore than a gnat on the windshield, so why even bring them up? Focus on what makes your company great, instead of why you're not as good as the other guy.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I don't think he was, actually. But either way, you get him in there somehow, give him some rub against some decent guys and let him rise up.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I'm kind of glad that the Te'o story ended like it did, I really didn't want to hate the guy, but hey at least someone was gay in this story(Tuisi-whatever the fuck).

As for Culliver, being a 49ers fan and all so my opinion is probably moot but I really don't care to be honest. He's saying nothing new this is something that 98 percent of football feel and he had the balls to say it.

Anyone want any Deer Antler Spray? Anyone?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Great idea, man. Do all your main event promos as you need to, but the rest of the show is dedicated to the IC Title tourny. I really like it. At least it isn't pointless filler.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I'm glad that TNA is finally going to be touring more for 2013, although they may not be right there with WWE in terms of competition but this is very good start.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Yeah, but that would make sense, so they're not doing it.

    ReplyDelete
  46. As has been said, they should have started doing this years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Marge: "It's an ending"

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'm all for getting over new talent. Key words 'getting over'. Jumping the gun just a tad here... And let me guess, if the crowd don't take a shining to him, it'll be his fault?

    ReplyDelete
  49. basicly he's an affectionate parody of luchadors. thus the name El generico, or tge Generic one

    ReplyDelete
  50. A lot has happened in those 3 years. So the reactions might not be the same.

    ReplyDelete
  51. No question, but better late than never.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I think the percentage of Homophobic people in football may simply be towards the national average. There's plenty of gay people playing football and basketball and as far as I know, there will be plenty of people on the team who know about it. This guy just ran his mouth and then a lot of people swooped in. The Silent Majority is a myth. The last time I heard the phrase was this last election and they were all supposed to vote Romney in with a landslide victory. Lo and behold...

    ReplyDelete
  53. But if he DOES get over, then he hasn't paid his dues which means that...I think he has to job to the Big Show, but only after winning the title from Wade.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Hardy was practically booed out of the building at BFG. They have not had a televised show out of the Impact Zone since then.

    ReplyDelete
  55. The gimmick is goofy and fun enough to get over but I figure he'll job as much as Ryder and be doing "comedy" bits with Santino.

    ReplyDelete
  56. The problem is she has Hogan in her ear...

    ReplyDelete
  57. Dixie carter, who gives a shit?

    ReplyDelete
  58. Had Cena lost and done an injury angle he would pretty solid as a face right now IMO. It would address two of the main issues the haters have with him: 1.) Supercena - he'd be vulnerable. 2.) He's overexposed - We can't miss you if you don't leave.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Not necessarily. By having a home base and no major travel, they had something to offer wrestlers that WWE never would do. Also, it is considerably cheaper to run the Impact Zone than to tour. If TNA is tight on money as they say, it might not be good to overdo it.

That said, I think they should do SOME touring. At least all the PPV's.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Yeah, probably. If they were smart they'd slot him in the Mysterio role, get all the kids begging their parents to buy them a Generico mask. We'll see, but I'm not too optimistic.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I'd have him make friends with Rey and turn Sin Cara out of jealousy.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I'm not saying old "Killer Kalender" tours, but do a 3 month on the road, three month at home style schedule would work? And PPVs should absolutely be in different venues.

And I understand the appeal for the wrestlers, but if they wanted an easy schedule, why even become a wrestler, ya know?

    ReplyDelete
  63. Goldrush 2005 has to rank up there with the best WWE tournaments ever.

    ReplyDelete
  64. http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m7cum7sHcl1r6jhq9o1_1280.jpg

    ReplyDelete
  65. SOME touring can be fun in fact. And if they're still only doing one show a week, the wrestlers could go up there with family, see some sights, and actually enjoy the travel time.

    ReplyDelete
  66. But I have a feeling he'd be treated like Poochie was to be treated...

(Cena died on the way back to his home planet)

    ReplyDelete
  67. one upvote: I was saying boo-urns...

    ReplyDelete
  68. Down vote the above comment if aces & 8's makes your balls tingle!

    ReplyDelete
  69. Oh it'd be fun to see him in Chicago, that is for sure, but there's plenty of places that he could do well and be cheered.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I wonder if that's the idea? Now that I think about it, the IC tournament really WOULD be wasted on Main Event.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I believe I read it will be once every 2 weeks, like the old Raw taping schedule.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Tensai will be returing as A Train once again next week on raw. Full body hair and all

    ReplyDelete
  73. That's what I thought at the time.
Weren't there rumors of Brock being furious afterwards?

    ReplyDelete
  74. What I am saying is that the easy home schedule is something they can use to lure talent. I heard it was a big part of why Christian went over for awhile.

    ReplyDelete
  75. This angle would require him to beat several guys and not just Barrett. Maybe they didn't want to do that?

    ReplyDelete
  76. For some strange reason he reminded me of Brian Christopher. Maybe his body language? I don't know. But, yeah, the smiley guy with greasy hair died when Rocky killed the gimmick dead.

    ReplyDelete
  77. ^ Exactly. Go back and look at the BoD thread and many people were making similar comments during the match. That hasn't happened with Cena in an eternity.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Maybe he'll get the Cena reaction where adults boo him and chicks and kids cheer him. Regardless, he's their most over guy and casual fans see him as legit since he's a WWE guy.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Our fearless leader did:

    http://www.rspwfaq.net/2012/04/more-on-cena-v-lesnar.html

While the sentiment was far from unanimous there were a lot of people in the comments in the Extreme Rules 2012 thread that felt the same way.

    ReplyDelete
  80. It lured some talent over and...still got them nowhere on buy rates and ratings. They have a good product now, for the most part, bringing it to the people is what they need not luring more ex-WWE guys.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Look downthread. I provided a link.

    ReplyDelete
  82. In that thread, the rant, and the live thread, there is only like 2 people who share that view. Out of hundreds of posts.

    ReplyDelete
  83. So he'll be wearing a mask like Kane, or a bodysuit like Giant Gonzales?

    ReplyDelete
  84. You can't tell stories through tournaments.

    - Said nobody who ever saw KOTR 94 or Deadly Game (best booked tournament ever?)

    ReplyDelete
  85. "Until his hair has grown back completely, the role of "Albert" will be played by a North American Grizzly Bear"

    -411.com

    ReplyDelete
  86. Even after IRS, too. Then, it was all about the character. He was just the most boring heel in the ring. The only time he ever did it for me in the ring was during the Varsity Club days.

    ReplyDelete
  87. That'd be great! We haven't had vampires since....well let's see. Edge and Christian and Gangrel of course (When they were the Brood)...Batista when he was in OVW I think. The guy who was Mordecai, but then became a vampire in ECW. (Kevin Thorne and his fly ass goth cootchie). And let us not forget Vampiro (a classic) of course. Have I left anyone out?

    ReplyDelete
  88. Tensai was getting 'Albert' chants, so they changed him back to A-Train. I kind of wish some smart ass fans would then start chanting for Tensai, just to give Vince a massive coronary.

    ReplyDelete
  89. He'll become Conquistador Tres.

    ReplyDelete
  90. That guy who freaked out about Rock beating Punk at The Rumble strikes again. I think he's just a gimmick now.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORaBMF4TscM

    ReplyDelete
  91. I'm glad you noted a source. I originally thought that that was a joke.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Can't make that sort of stuff up, man.

    Only in wrestling.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Nobody's threadjacked this yet for the Bret video linked in the WON update?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=xSNJX1aBDSw

    ReplyDelete
  94. Makes some good points, but too harsh in general.

Hunter's not nearly the legend that he thinks he is, but he's definitely had more than zero great matches.

    ReplyDelete
  95. THREADJACK.

    TNA Edition.

    Tables match for Bully Ray?!

    ReplyDelete
  96. I can agree with all that. Although there is hyperbole in there. Also, I kinda got the impression that Bret was talking about pre Screwjob HHH and post whenever Bret was on good terms with WWE again. Seems like he missed a ton of stuff from like 2000-2005 or whenever because he wasn't watching.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Let it never be said that Bret isn't a mark for himself.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I remember the days when winning a secondary title like the IC title meant u was getting a push. Not like today when it means ur becoming a non title match jobber

    ReplyDelete
  99. Also it would be a hilarious trend if TNA gave all the knockouts the WWE finishers.

    ReplyDelete
  100. I dunno, 411.com is usually pretty spot on.

The other day I wanted to know the phone number for my local abottoire, and there it was.

    ReplyDelete
  101. I think Jim Cornette got it right, HHH is the guy who works WITH the top guy. He's a guy you can count on to rise to the occasion, but he cannot carry a match by itself.

    ReplyDelete
  102. HowmuchdoesthisguyweighJanuary 31, 2013 at 8:18 PM

That originally video was great... Loved the intensity in the kicking of the DVDs

    ReplyDelete
  103. HowmuchdoesthisguyweighJanuary 31, 2013 at 8:23 PM

So far Bo Dallas is just a guy I will dislike for no reason haha... Everyone has those guys they just don't like. Plus he looks like the bad guy in kindergarden cop

    ReplyDelete
  104. Hes 100% back tracked on that though

    ReplyDelete
  105. My favorite was him chanting "Rocky rocky" while tearing the DVD cover in half. Priceless.

    ReplyDelete
  106. After seeing that there were tens of thousands of visitors to his other videos, I now feel dumber. This guy's just someone who believes he stars in his own reality show. Thought we had our heir apparent to the "It's still real to me" guy for a second.

    ReplyDelete
  107. After the interview, Bret had sex with a waitress, who confided in him that he was always her favorite wrestler and his opinions on pretty much everything are exactly right.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Yeah still hilarious though. His girlfriend recorded him freaking out over the Rock/Punk later too. Funny shit

    ReplyDelete
  109. That couldn't have been his girlfriend, that was probably his little sister who thinks her older brother is a loser.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Bret's right.

Triple H has had a great matches, but he's had them with people already capable of having them. Put him in there with someone that needs to be carried, and you're in for a shit show.

    ReplyDelete
  111. No I watched another video where they kissed so I pray to which ever deity will hear me that they are not bro/sis

    ReplyDelete
  112. It was a good work. He totally "gets" the smark rage and it was completely believable if he hadn't had a ton of other videos.

Best bit was licking the DVD, that's the crazy shit someone flipping out would do.

    ReplyDelete
  113. The GTA video is just so good because he actually cries. Real tears.
