Unlikely surprise

Hey Scott,

Of the top 3 Mania matches (the winners of which are generally considered foregone conclusions) which one do you think is most likely to not end the way everyone expects?

Oh, I think if they're going to swerve us, it'll be the HHH match.  Cena can't lose and Undertaker can't lose, but it really matters little how the Brock-HHH result goes.

Comments

  1. I'm of the opinion that Cena loses again, setting up Rock/Cena III. Hear me out.

All the dirtsheets as of late have revealed that Cena is fine with jobbing once again so long as he wins the third match and Rock pins him after the use of an international object. In this case, Cena has requested that he's beaten by the use of anal beads.

Let's play it out and see where it goes.

  2. I'm thinking they have Punk pin Taker with ref down and then get pinned by Taker later in match. Punk will then tout(no, not that kind of Tout) that he broke the streak....

It would be great if Rock turned and cheated to beat Cena but that is unlikely but it would be a way of swerving the audience and not hurting Cena in the process...

  3. alot of wrestling fans lean left so x-pect a really bad face turn in one of them

  4. Not sure if anyone has jacked another thread to discuss this, but did anyone see the gruesome leg injury suffered by Louisville's Kevin Ware during Sunday's Elite Eight victory over Duke? Of course most sports commentators will compare it to Joe Theismann's injury at the hands of Lawrence Taylor in 1986 at the Meadowlands, but for wrestling fans, it's reminiscent of Sid snapping his leg at WCW's Sin ppv in 2001.The spooky thing: Ware's injury and Sid's took place about a half mile apart, as both events were being held in Indianapolis. I'm going to start an online petition to get my hometown named the Gruesome Leg Injury Capital of the World.

  5. I've mentioned this before, but I'd be shocked if Trips actually WON - I figured the whole point of the "retirement" stip was so that he can get a three-hour tribute the next night.

I mean, it's not like he ACTUALLY has to stick to the stipulation.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I doubt any of the result change, but if there was one swerve it would be in HHH-Brock, no real stakes there(because let's face it even if HHH did lose, it's not like it'll stick, not like they believe in continuity or anything).

Also, completely off topic but is Evil Dead the only movie out the series being remade? I'd be completely floored if they didn't try to take a shot at Army of Darkness(not saying I want a remake, but an AoD remake/sequel is MONEY).

  7. "GLIC"... I like it.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I saw it, the bench's reaction to it told the whole story.

  9. I've made up my mind. I'm not paying for Wrestlemania. I'm not finding a stream. I'm not even going to check a news site or hang out in comments. I'm so bored by the prospect of Wrestlemania 29 that I'm not even going to bother following it in the least until I check out the following night's RAW.

  10. The Final Four even!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Triple H can't lose and retire. He enjoys supplementing his fat corporate salary by getting a big pay per view payday a few times a year. Truly the smartest man in this business.

    ReplyDelete
  12. yeah i dont think Cena is a lock either, Punk is the only true forgone conclusion

    ReplyDelete
  13. chocolate fruity pebbles?

    ReplyDelete
  14. We all know that this match is setting up the long-awaited heel turn of Billy Gunn.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Sam and Bruce said if it does well enough they will finally be able to make the sequel to Army of Darkness.

    ReplyDelete
  16. oh right, we dont have them in UK you see

    ReplyDelete
  17. Well it looks like we're gonna get a sequel then.

    ReplyDelete
  18. If wrestling is known for one thing it's stipulations that stick.

    ReplyDelete
  19. It will be interesting to see what his payout is compared with some of the other wrestlers, considering he's the boss.

    ReplyDelete
  20. If Rock is really around for the next PPV, then I don't get why Cena wins at WM. Unless it's purely for the dreaded "rematch clause" or to establish the not-gonna-happen heel turn.

    ReplyDelete
  21. shut up.

You make it seem like you have a life.

You'll be in here lurking like the rest of the goofs who think they are too cool for school.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Brock is going to win. And they're going to do the HBK/WM26 thing where they wish Hunter well and give him a big "retirement" moment at WrestleMania.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Has there ever been a Wrestlemania match with a genuinely surprising outcome? The closest things I could think of might be Savage winning the belt at WM IV (I was young then, so I don't remember the expected result, but I was pretty surprised it didn't land back around Hogan's waist) or HHH winning WM XVI--since heels never won. You could maybe add Miz beating Cena to that list, but I think we all kind of knew the Rock was getting involved.

    ReplyDelete
  24. If you're looking past just title matches, then Owen beating Bret at WM X maybe.

Not Sheamus winning, but winning in 18 seconds.

I imagine that Yokozuna beating Bret at IX was surprising for all of the new minutes it lasted.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Lord knows Cena needs to be protected!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Rock winning last year honestly surprised me. That was probably it though.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Off the top of my head, Matt beating Jeff.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Honky Tonk Man beating Jake the Snake, iirc.

    ReplyDelete
  29. ...that would be me.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yo bro what is it with you and all your posts being sexual in nature?? Do you subscribe to Muscle and Fitness for other reasons???

    ReplyDelete
  31. Just read that backstage reaction to Henry/Ryback at house shows has not been good. That sucks, only b/c I don't want Henry to lose his streak and momentum of awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Pitino said he thought it wasn't bad until he saw it. It almost made his throw up. Definite Sid/Theisman territory.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I was genuinely surprised when Triple H won the WrestleMania 25 main event.

    ReplyDelete
  34. If I were someone who did those things, I wouldn't use stream sights. I'd wait for a torrent. Which is what I would do for WM 29, IF I were someone who did those things.

    ReplyDelete
  35. But Ryback would have been the one going over...?

    ReplyDelete
  36. No surprise there. Ryback needs someone who can bump for him. Someone he can toss around. Not Mark Henry.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Good point on the Bret matches. Owen was a total surprise. I remember being surprised by Yoko as well, though I've heard some say that result wasn't unexpected. At the time, I had just seen Yoko as a King Kong Bundy, monster of the week type, so I didn't think he was getting the gold--though I suppose he kind of didn't, but that was another surprise altogether.

In a sickness in the pit of my stomach way, I was somewhat expecting the Sheamus/Bryan thing (last year they were bumped; how are they going to be screwed time-wise this year?), but I was still shocked they had the audacity to play Honkytonk Man/Warrior with that match.

Come to think of it, I was surprised when Heel Jericho beat Face Edge, but then they just bounced the belt to Totally Not Ready Swagger anyway, so that result is pretty historically irrelevant.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I loved how people were outraged that anyone wanted to show or link to a replay of the injury. As if they weren't clicking and hitting "replay" over and over like everyone else.

And he broke his leg. Yeah, it's terrible it happened and it will be terrible if he can't play basketball again, but you would think he was on life support with the way they held up his jersey and all the #PrayForWare tweets. He'll live. Get over it.

But yeah, the reaction of the bench and even the crowd sitting there was of pure horror.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I was pretty shocked when Jericho pinned Edge at XXVI, especially since Edge just came back from a serious injury, won the Royal Rumble and had an issue with Jericho beforehand due to Jericho style dickery.

    ReplyDelete
  40. You and me both. There's plenty to do that night anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I just saw it, good Lord was that horrible. Still doesn't top Slava Koslov getting his jugular sliced open, which I saw in person.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Poor Ryback is going to get eaten alive at Mania.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I hope the WrestleMania crowd doesn't disappoint us. We've all talked about how vicious they are going to be, how they are gonna turn on the matches, etc. But what if they don't? What if even the crowd disappoints us this year?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Part of me hopes this is Triple H's attempt at trying to get his "sympathy" from the fans again after it failed at Summerslam. LA fans chanting "You Tapped Out!" at Triple H will be nothing compared to NY/NJ fans chanting the goodbye song at him.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Now if somebody who did that sort of things wanted to "torrent' something, one would use piratebay, as they are the most reliable of these sort of sites I know nothing about.

But this is all purely hypothetical...as I am not a person who does these sort of things...allegedly.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Oh if I were one to do something of that sort I wouldn't use Pirate Bay. I'd use a site that specialized in wrestling torrents. Of course since I know nothing of these things I will refrain from comment. Supposedly.

    ReplyDelete
  47. My friend was surprised when Benoit won at WM XX, that's what he gets for leaving during the main event though.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Someone wanna translate?

    ReplyDelete
  49. It's been too long since we've had a "Na Na Na Na Goodbye" song sighting.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I actually am too cool for school because I WON'T be lurking in the comments. But that's only because I want to avoid spoilers because I'm going to torrent it. Allegedly.

    ReplyDelete
  51. A lot of Wrestling fans are liberals and expect a really bad face turn in one of the matches.

    ReplyDelete
  52. This is way too ballsy for the current direction of the company, but: (i) put Lesnar over HHH in a hard fought, but dominating, match - see the Rock loss to Lesnar as how to do it correctly; (ii) Taker goes over Punk in a match where Taker overcomes Heyman AND Brock interference to win; (iii) throw in a little Rock/Brock interaction backstage after that match, wherein they get nose to nose; (iv) put Cena over Rock, but not before Rock has the match won but with a KO'ed ref and wherein Rock is kiboshed by Lesnar with the F-5, leading to the Cena win.

This sets up your entire year, as follows:

    *Money in the Bank: Cena/Rock vs. Punk/Lesnar (Punk/Lesnar win);
    *SummerSlam: Cena vs. Punk, Rock vs. Lesnar (Cena wins, Lesnar wins);
*Survivor Series: Cena vs. Lesnar, with the lead up of the Rock training Cena Rocky III Apollo/Rocky style to do what he couldn't (Cena wins by the skin of his teeth, Punk interference spoiled by returning Taker)
*Mania XXX: Cena vs. Rock III, Lesnar vs. Taker, Punk vs. Austin. (Cena, Taker, Austin win - I know it is unlikely that Austin comes back; if not, just slot in whatever you want)

    ReplyDelete
  53. Triple H retaining at WM20 in the 4-way match.

Cena making Triple H tap out at WM21 to win the WWE Championship.

Rey Misterio beating Orton and Angle for the Championship.

    Rock beating Cena last year.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I would think it's going to be for the rematch, maybe in a multi-person match because it would be dumb to have the Rock be pinned at two PPVs in a row. As much as I would love to see Cena not win at Mania, it would be horrible business to have Rock win two matches at Mania and give Cena his win at Extreme Rules.

    ReplyDelete
  55. The best way to do something of that sort is to download it, burn it to DVD and watch it on your big screen TV at noon on Monday. Not that I have ever done that, every month and twice when TNA would run monthly... not me.

    ReplyDelete
  56. That would be a way to get to Extreme Rules for Cena to get his win there.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Or even better if you have a computer that you can hook an HDMI cord up to. Not that I know.

    ReplyDelete
  58. LOL. You actually think I could hold back and just lurk?

    ReplyDelete
  59. I dont mean he needs to be protected but the same marks crying about Punk losing at a few PPVs in a row after the longest reign since Hogan's first look like hypocrites with the down votes, lol.

Like it or not, Cena is the face of the company and its not good business to have a part timer keep coming back and beating him at your Super Bowl like event.

I know everyone wants a Heel Cena but I would much rather see Heel Rock again....

    ReplyDelete
  60. WM 20 was the Benoit match, Im guessing you meant WM 2000

    ReplyDelete
  61. Id rather HHH wins so we dont get have to sit through a 3 hour HHH love fest on Raw the following night...

    ReplyDelete
  62. haha I didn't mean to attack you, I mean the guy is on top regardless of titles. And I'm praying for Heel Rock still!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Oh, I didnt take it that way, I enjoy snark, lol

    ReplyDelete
  64. Fantasy booking is junk, but I'm genuinely amazed given Heyman is the mouthpiece for both the main "Heels" in the company (Punk/Lesnar) they've not stuck the both of them in the room together once...

    ReplyDelete
  65. 9 upvoters can't be wrong!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Now if someone (not me, as I don't do these sort of things) were to use a wrestling torrent site (which I of course wouldn't use) what would be the name of these sites (I have non interest in)?

    ReplyDelete
  67. s - p # o r + t - l e m - o n & # d o % t *** tee 9+! vee

Take out all the horseshit obviously, I have this paranoid sense that Scott would not be pleased at someone posting the real link
