DVD Poll

So as noted, I got some cheap DVDs in the recent WWEShop sale, and I'm leaving it up to you, the reader, as to which one I should tackle first.  They all look pretty good, actually.  As usual, this is a non-binding poll and I reserve the right to ignore you like your name was Fuj.

  1. I think you guys don't understand what makes Scott Keith's reviews so good:

    Negativity.

    ReplyDelete
  2. I'm shocked this one is $5.99, but the older Anthology one is still $10.99.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I'd go Tag matches for Scott to review decent bouts, but I will vote Hogan matches to make him miserable. I'm expecting a horrible TNA review this week after the traumatizing experience as well!

    ReplyDelete
  4. The tag teams DVD is worth it just for the MX/Fantastics match.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I want the Hogan and tag team sets. Really, I'm interested in your thoughts on Hogan v Backlund. An underrated classic. The Piper one? Not much to work with.

    ReplyDelete
  6. The whole thing is awesome. Also features a rare Duke Doherty appearance on commentary during the Demos v Bees match

    ReplyDelete
  7. Piper if you're going to review the doc too.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Is this sale still going on? And how much is shipping?

    ReplyDelete
  9. 2/3 falls.. 3xDuke~!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Looking at the match listings I'm most interested in the Hogan set, lots of interesting stuff IMO. Backlund/Hogan sounds great as well.

    ReplyDelete
  11. TRIVIAJACK!~

Who hold the record for most times tapping out at Wrestlemania?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Can't think of anyone with more.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Yeah, that's quite brutal.

    ReplyDelete
  14. The list of people who tapped out at WM: Backlund at 11, HHH at 20, HBK at 21, HHH at 22, HBK at 23, Edge at 24, Vince at 26, Batista at 26, HHH at 27, Jericho at 28, and Swagger at 29.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Considering Bret's finish and the time he had in the company, you'd figure there'd be more.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I was shocked when I went back and looked that it took me to 11 to find one. And if you want to get technical about it, Backlund was a verbal submission. The first tap out didn't happen until 20.

    ReplyDelete
  17. When did tap outs even start? Isn't Taz in ECW kinda credited as starting tap outs in wrestling?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Does Cena have the most submission victories?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yep with 3. Bret and Taker are tied with 2.

    ReplyDelete
  20. 2000 when Benoit, Angle, Taz, and Jericho all got started.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Roll up on Piper, lost to Yokozuna, lost to Owen and beat Yoko with another roll up, beat Backlund with a chicken wing, lost to HBK, beat Austin via ref stoppage and the only guy he ever beat with his finish is Vince at 26.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Bret, Angle, and Benoit. You'd figure at least 4 or 5 between them.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Didn't Shamrock make Rock tap out? Or was that the match where the decision was reversed?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Shamrock made him tap out but it was reversed because he is a crazy person.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Ah ok I thought that was Royal Rumble.

    ReplyDelete
  26. In wrestling in general though wasn't Taz the first?

    ReplyDelete
  27. no. and shipping is usually about $6. which usually negates any discount in my book. one can find the same DVDs for (usually a bit cheaper) on eBay with free shipping.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Forgot about him.

    ReplyDelete
  29. WCW guys were also using the tap outs a lot but they didn't promote like ECW did with Taz at that time.

    ReplyDelete
  30. we are both wrong.

    taz 97 ecw

    ReplyDelete
  31. I know about Taz, I was talking just WWE.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Co-sign. Anarchy Rulz 2000 just popped up on Classics and it's a surprisingly great show.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Tito Santana vs. Executioner, WrestleMania I.

    ReplyDelete
  34. And Rick Martel vs. Koko B. Ware at 6.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Also not a tap out.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Wikipedia fails me again! This is like the 37th time!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Didn't fail nothing. A tap out is a submission victory, but a submission victory is not necessarily a tap out!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I know but when I looked back at all the cards, I was counting both. Usually on wiki it says so and so defeated so and so via submission.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I didn't know this was a game of semantics.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I think you don't understand what a tap out is.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Why do they have to air that shit 2 or 3 times a year though?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Even if the Allied Powers DVD was just matches with lex and bulldog, I would still select it over anything with Hogan or Piper.

    ReplyDelete
  43. What do you mean?

    ReplyDelete
  44. No, it's a matter of semantics.

What you're saying is that tap outs and submissions are different. But that's like saying a regular pinfall is different to one where the ref stomps his feet instead of using his hands, much like a cowboy referee would do.

Maybe I just have cabin fever today.

    ReplyDelete
  45. RE-THREAD JACK!

Buy this DVD of the Brooklyn Brawler Domination: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQW37uJu3FI

    ReplyDelete
  46. Scott, how about a smark review of a youtube video? Have you ever done that?

    ReplyDelete
  47. I don't think it's semantics. Tapping out is a subset of all the possible forms of submission.

Winning a match with a Boston Crab is to say that that person won by submission. Winning a match by submissions is not to say that that person won by a Boston Crab.

Your argument would be that Tito Santana beat the Executioner via Boston Crab.

    ReplyDelete
  48. that was a Dusty finish. Rock used knucks on Shamrock then planted them in Shamrock's trunks. Ken got the pin, Rock motioned to the ref to check Ken's trunks, found the knucks, DQ

    ReplyDelete
  49. Plus if we are playing semantics, you can win by submission and not tap out. Passing out and referee stoppage work with something like a sleeper hold.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Man, so Cena must be a better technical wrestler than Bret, I mean, Bret only won twice. And one of those times wasn't exactly clean. #BretLogic.

    ReplyDelete
  51. CORPORATE PROMOTIONJACK!~

    Can't really argue with #1.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Fuck yes. Scott hating on ECW is always perversely enjoyable for me, despite having been an ECW mark.

    ReplyDelete
  53. The Piper doc is fun, but there's more to say with the Allied Powers one so i'd go with that.

    ReplyDelete
  54. "You Suck!" should've been quite higher, but it's not a disaster at least.

    ReplyDelete
  55. To paraphrase Warren Ellis: Holy shit, no!

    ReplyDelete
  56. My God I would love a review of that!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Scott I'm begging you, just this once listen to the fuj

    ReplyDelete
  58. I wanna see Scott's comments on some of the claims on Piper's set. He really seemed to being doing the interviews 80% kayfabe.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Remember when everyone was bugging Papa Smark to review the Hulkamania Collisium tapes? Yeah, that's where I voted, brother.
