Hi Scott - Blog Help Request

> Hi Scott,

> I hope that all is well. I know this isn't your bag, but currently working on re-launching a roleplay based online promotion, focusing on wrestling during the 1980s and 90s.

> I hope that you might plug it on the blog - perhaps some of your readers would be interested in participating. The (still bare) site is here: theuwa.blogspot.com

> 'We are currently working on re-launching the famed United Wrestling Alliance that dominated online roleplay wrestling in the late 1990s.
>
> The UWA is a roleplay based wrestling fantasy league. There is a weekly television show, as well as a calendar of ten pay per view events per calendar year. Roleplay is the key to the UWA, and your participation relies on sending one 'promo' per week as your selected wrestler. These promos are then 'scored' on a scale of 1-10, and your points factor into your booking. When booked against an opponent (for pay per view) your promos should focus on that match. The better your promos, the better your shot of rising to the top of the promotion!
>
> You can play as any wrestler you choose – though our focus is on the wrestling of the 1980s-1990s. Generally, anyone on the rosters of the WWF, WCW, or ECW between 1985-2000 are acceptable. You can play as a maximum of two wrestlers, or one single wrestler and a tag team. Currently, we have someone committed to play as Bret Hart. We need approx. ten people to properly re-launch.
>
> On average, participating in the UWA is about a thirty to sixty minute commitment per week – mostly spent on roleplaying, and reading shows.
>
> To inquire about membership, please e-mail HITMAN383@aol.com. The league is free – there is no cost to join or participate. Our goal is to re-launch by the end of May 2013.'

  1. Oh god, I wonder if I can find my old "The Show" E-fed rants.

  2. I see this ended up as two separate threads, so I am reposting my comments from the other thread:

'First, thank you to Scott for posting this. It is
appreciated. It’s easy to find people to play, but quite difficult to find old
    school fans.

That said, I need to correct an error. The correct contact
info for anyone interested is EWFPager@aol.com

Thanks again. We had a lot of fun the last time around, and
I hope we can get off the ground again.'

  3. E-feds? Holy hell, does that take me back. I'm intrigued.

  4. Interesting. I remember doing e-feds in the late 90s on AOL. They were done through email, so I thought the "e" in e-fed meant email. I remember a very strict rule of quality over quantity role plays. There was a brief resurgence of e-feds during the MySpace fad, done through group bulletin boards, and I dabbled in it again there. It seemed the quality over quantity rule was a thing of the past, as most people wrote nonsensical, padded novels and were rewarded for it.

  5. Yes, I know exactly what you mean. In fact, the 'quality > quantity' approach was something we prided ourselves on in the 90s - and plan to do so again. Sometimes a goofy Warrior promo is appropriate (especially if you're, like, playing as Warrior), but generally those don't score too well.

  6. The Fuj is intrigued.

I too have e-fedded in the past. Once as a original character and secondly as Jake Roberts.

  7. You know, of all the characters we've had, I don't think anyone has ever played as Jake Roberts. Would certainly be interesting.

  8. I'm fairly certain that Bret Hart has signed up to play Bret Hart

  9. Yeah, I was really big into e-Feds for a while back in the late 90s, when I first got the internet. I was in a couple "real guy" feds (which often had made-up guys, too- I was The Tiger (Japanese martial artist), Mick Foley, Test & Christian (yes really- TEST). I was in the IWO, which at the time was the biggest and most high-end e-Fed (it had PODCASTS), as a tag team called The Foreign Legion, with a pretentious Englishman named Brother Al teaming with Crazy Canuck, a hardcore wrestler.

It was fun for a bit, but soon the endless writing of roleplays got to me and I stopped. It didn't help that 99% of e-Feds are politics driven (in this regard, they are EXACTLY like roleplaying a real wrestling federation), where the "Prez" usually pushes his buddies. In the IWO, later main event guys would admit to me over Facebook that only match-writers were allowed to have their guy become World Champion.

  10. My Internet interaction from 1997-2001 was mostly through e-wrestling. I met a few Australian wrestlers this way, eg: KrackerJak...

  11. That was definitely a BIG problem with a lot of promotions then (and probably now, too). We always prided ourselves on merit driven programming/booking, and I think that had a lot to do with our success, and why (over 13 years later) members who I haven't kept in touch with since the 90s were happy to rejoin the fold.

I also agree with you that roleplay can be time consuming - with our target audience being fans in their late 20s/early 30s, we understand that concern. Our goal is to avoid anyone having to do more than one promo per week at this point.

If you're interested in giving it another go, check us out at theuwa.blogspot.com - or e-mail me directly at EWFPager@aol.com. You'd be welcome!

    Thanks!
