How to break the streak yet keep 21-0

Maybe this is dumb, I've never fantasy booked before but today I had a thought because for me there's no real buzz to Punk/Taker which is a shame...

Why not have Punk beat Taker within an inch of his life (zombie life?) and in a moment akin to Triple H delivering the tombstone we get the buy-in from the crowd that CM Punk could end this here...

One...
two... two and a half.... lights go out.  Nobody know if it was a 3-count or a kick-out.  The stadium is in darkness.  We get some archive audio from Paul Bearer play into the arena, summoning Taker to rise. Lights come up. A bitching CM Punk is apoplectic with the ref.... zombie sit-up.... takes advantage... 21-0

The streak continues, CM Punk can forever claim to have broken it and a nice and respectful nod to Paul Bearer all in one.
Me crazy?

Crazy is such a strong word.

I think the "respectful nod to Paul Bearer" train sailed as soon as Punk dumped his supposed ashes on Undertaker last week.  I do think they'll play a Bearer soundclip to distract Punk so that Taker can tombstone him for the win, though.  I'm not a fan of wishy-washy finishes where you don't know who wins, though.  Either break the streak or don't.  Preferably don't.

    SHUT THE FUCK UP.

  2. If you're gonna do something like that you might as well go the whole 9 yards and have Marty Jannetty rising up in a cloud of smoke.

  3. Why is Jesse Baker claiming he's never fantasy booked before today?

  4. I've seen people say do a draw or have Taker get DQ'd. It's the Streak. If you are gonna end it have the guy pin him clean.

  5. Nah, John Cena doesn't get anal raped in this scenario.

  6. And who's paying off Kane/Nash?

  7. Yes, yes, and more yes. Plus they've already done the stretcher job after a win angle twice (admittedly once was before THE STREAK existed, but still...) so I'm also hoping they don't go back to that well again.

  8. I actually LIKE this idea and totally plays into the Undertakers gimmick of being supernatural whilst keeps Punk strong. I've hated the fact that Punk is NOT the main event this year despite all he has worked for and achieved. Bottom line is regardless if Rock/Cena 2 was set in stone a year ago, in the eyes of Vinnie Mac Punk IS NOT the man when it truly counts. Hell even Punk is massively pissed off, in a recent interview the other day he states just this and this was definitely not in 'character' he looked legit pissed off almost 'burying' the importance of his match at Mania. My only saving grace for this match is for Punk to look strong and get screwed in this type of manner, because from Jan to April he's gone from being THE MAN too taking a backseat to the usual crew at this time of the year... Punk Summer 2011 wouldn't of stood for this BS.

  9. The closest I can see happening is they pull the same stuff they did at the Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber, where he either gets the match restarted on him or gets a bunch of visual pinfalls on Taker.

  10. I had a debate with someone about whether Taker taking a loss in a 2/3 falls match at Mania, but winning the match would destroy the mystique of the streak. I think it would be too much of an asterisk, but I guess its all a matter of opinion.

  11. Yeah I can see maybe a ref bump with a visual pin. I don't see a DQ or anything cheap like that though.

  12. The drama created would be AMAZING, but you can't have the heel win as they've said over and over again that it's an actual match.

  13. They are overdue to run another ether angle though...

    ReplyDelete
  14. Why not? They are running with old Undertaker angles. It'd fit.

    ReplyDelete
  15. If they hire Jannetty, there is sure to be a cloud of some sort of smoke in his vicinity...

  16. I think it was Scott Hall on twitter who pretty much alluded to Punk acting like he is going to be doing the job.

If Punk does wind up doing the job, he comes down a notch in my book with the way he is pretty much going through the motions. I know he is disappointed about not being the main event but it wouldnt hurt to be a bit more professional selling a pretty important storyline.

Punk/Taker probably wouldve been more effective if Punk was still champ, Rock/Cena didnt need a title involved.

  17. Just from the interviews I've seen it's pretty clear that Punk is putting off an air of not wanting to be there. Which shocks me because Punk has always seemed like a guy who will take whatever you give him and make the most out of it. And here he has a golden opportunity of wrestling Undertaker at WM and he just does not seem interested at all. Maybe he knows something we don't like he's getting beat in 5 minutes or something. But I'm real surprised thus far in Punk's hype. Brock Lesnar seems more interested in his match.

  18. Too bad the people that did the Tupac hologram went bankrupt because now would be a perfect time to use a Paul Bearer hologram.

  19. Another problem with the angle- this angle is that the stadium era of Wrestlemania makes it hard to run an angle like that. If you're going to do it, something in the night won't get things 'dark' enough to work. (Having said that, though, WWE WOULD do something like that after the Super Bowl power failure...)

  20. Punk pulls out a bottle of ether but, being straight edge and having a low tolerance to substances, is knocked cold just from the fumes and loses by KO.

  21. Someday we will see a holographic wrestling match, of this I am certain.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I wish for the days of the holograms like they have on the Star Wars movies to be commonplace.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think Punk's probably more annoyed that he has no reason to face Taker at all, and it was shoe-horned in at the last minute.

    ReplyDelete
  24. If this doesn't happen, I'm going to be insanely disappointed.

Will be a good match. Punk eats a tombstone (not the pizza) and is pinned for 3. There ya go. Book it

    ReplyDelete
  26. Yeah, I meant more that the announcers would call it controversial. The win itself would obviously count but they could play it up that it doesn't really count to ending the Streak because of the circumstances, but really you'd only do that to setup a rematch and you'd only do all of that if there was a heel that they wanted to strap the rocket to.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I hate this idea. It actually looks like Punk may have got cheated out of a victory, if anything. It's right up there with ending a Taker match in a draw or ending Taker's streak by having his partner get pinned in a tag team match as far as Endings To Undertaker Matches At Wrestlemania That I Don't Want To See goes.

    ReplyDelete
  28. A loss in a MITB cash-in scenario would indeed be a loss, so The Streak would be over. That said, you could still do this scenario and have Undertaker just win that match too. Like, the briefcase-carrying heel (let's say Ziggler) rushes the ring and clocks Taker, then cashes in to start the match, while the fans all freak the hell out. Ziggler gets a very close two count and then they two trade big moves for a couple of minutes --- UT seems to recover long enough to try a chokeslam but the heel counters and hits Taker with his finisher, drawing another super-close two count. Finally the heel sets up the finisher again but Taker blocks or reverses it into the LEAPING TOMBSTONE~~~! for the win. That move is devastating enough that it's easily believable as a 'one move, match over' thing to use on a fresh opponent.

  29. I think Scott Hall said he looked as if he was winning against HHH. His twitter is fun: Hall sober is a fantastic insight into the business.
