I'm curious what people on here think: is it cool to boo during the HOF? I'm firmly in the "No Boos" camp. I look at the HOF as being a different beast than a typical wrestling show (and I think WWE/the inductees do as well). If you don't like any of the inductees, don't go (as opposed to hating Ric Flair so much you'd pay money to boo him at a real show). If you only like some but not all, then stand up and cheer your guys/girls and politely clap (or just sit there on your hands) for the ones you don't.
I agree with you. Although I do believe that the atmosphere has changed somewhat now that they hold the event at arenas and stadiums instead of some place more intimate and formal (didn't they used to do that?)
Yeah I know 20's ceremony (Hogan, Piper, etc) was a more intimate affair. I guess one could argue that once they decided to go bigger and make some $$ off this they reap what they sow.
"She might be the hottest celebrity associated with WWE"- fixed that for you. And that speech took me about four minutes to read, proving hall of fame fans are always a-holes. I seriously wish it was a private ceremony with only WWE performers and relatives and friends of inductees there.
Jesus, I just read the speech and can't believe people booed her. She's clearly a genuine wrestling fan, and knows the man personally. Why the fuck would you boo *that* speech?
Yeah, I didn't feel like looking up the correct spelling when I sent Scott the email. And she's a celebrity who clearly respects the business and if she could have delivered that speech, it would have been great. And it meant so much to her that she made a point to make sure that the wresting fans got to read it.
It's absolutely not cool to boo during the Hall of Fame stuff. When you a boo a performer, it's because he's performing and trying to illicit that reaction from you, or he sucks, and it's all part of a performance. The Hall of Fame is a legitimate recognition of the performer's contributions to the show.
Now, I kinda get why people would boo Maria and Donald Trump, thinking they don't "deserve" to be a part of the WWE Hall of Fame since their not wrestlers, but in the case of Maria, she clearly did her homework and respects the business and Bob Backlund. You think a bunch of "smart" fans would have known that going in, or at least been respectful enough to give the girl a chance.
How is it desperate for someone who respects a great wrestler like Bob Backulnd, who actually understands the contributions Backlund made to the sport and what a great person he is, to make sure that all the fans know it?
I dont blame em, they kept the ones we wanted to see short so we have to buy the DVD. Nobody is buying the DVD to see Trump, so might as well air it for free..
The speech wasn't desperate, I'm sure it was fan, but the open letter just reeked of PLEASE DON'T BOO ME I REALLY AM A FAN JUST LIKE YOU! I'd rather pull a heel turn and just go DON'T BOO ME, Y'ALL SHOULD BE BOOING YOURSELVES!
Or it could just be that I want everyone to channel R-Truth.
I'm in my final months of college before spending the foreseeable future doing traveling freelance work, which means you better believe I will milk the last few months of my college career NOT having a life.
I was there, and I personally HATED when fans started giving her a hard time. So fucking stupid. She wasn't Snooki up there obviously cashing a paycheck and just annoying everyone. She seems like a really cool person who is obviously a huge wrestling fan. A hot chick who loves pro wrestling? SHe should be applauded for that, morons.
Crowd also started acting like dicks while Trish was trying to thank her husband. The first time she mentioned her husband and the crowd booed, it was funny and she got a kick out of it. But when they KEPT doing it, that was just shitty. BUT, to play devil's advocate, that is what WWE is gonna get when they charge those prices for an arena show--- people are gonna get restless and underwhelmed by the show and start trying to entertain themselves.
Personally, if ever went to Mania again, I'd probably skip the Hall and Axxess, and just gorge on the indie stuff instead.
It was probably just jealousy on everyone's part that they weren't the ones who put a baby in the womb of Trish Stratus. Who looked GORGEOUS, by the way (well, moreso than usual).
One more thing about the live Hall ceremony—— the show was long as fuck, and the crowd was totally burnt out (and bored) by the time Maria went up. Foley gave a killer hour speech, which was entertaining as hell but still an HOUR. Then Trish and Booker, which were both fine but let's be honest——— people aren't that in love with either of those names. So by the time it got to Maria/Backlund, it was obvious the crowd just wanted to get to booing Trump and seeing Bruno.
Overall, I don't know why they insist on bloating these Hall of Fame classes so much. Foley, Bruno, Trump as the celeb and 1 or 2 of the other names would have been more than enough for the night, and the crowd wouldn't have gotten so antsy.
That said, like I said below, I think acting up at the Hall is an asshole move for sure.
there have been a lot of negative reactions when she was announced as the one inducting Backlund into the HOF as well. I guess people automatically assumed she was just some "random celebrity".
Agreed. I was there live and was embarrassed at the crowd during most of it. Maria's speech was fine, maybe a tad long, but she cared about Bob and wanted to honor him.
Having a little fun with Trump is fine but it got really old fast and honestly of any celeb in WWE history, he belongs in there.
Yeah but don't you know what you are getting into when you buy a ticket for that thing? I mean, they always go 3.5-4 hours. if fans can't handle sitting like normal human beings listening to speeches for that long, then don't go. Or show up late.
Two clowns behind us kept chanting "what" randomly throughout the evening, like that is funny or cool to do.
I really enjoyed being at HOF live, but I wouldn't blame them one bit if they said "fuck it, close it off" again.
the thing is, Maria didn't have to do any homework. It's already in her. People will boo Trump because he doesn't really deserve the honor and/or if they disagree with his beliefs. But to boo Maria was bad taste.
I'm not embarrassed to be a fan of pro wrestling, but things like this embarrass me to be lumped in with most pro wrestling fans.
That's your opinion, but the performers are taking their entry into the HoF very seriously. And clearly Maria took the job of inducting Backlund very seriously. So, whether or not you think it's a "work," don't you think their efforts and feelings deserve the respect of the fans?
I'm sure hhh takes it very seriously when he's tryingto jerk himself during a promo but it doesn't mean anyone else does. If its a wrestling show and they sell tickets to fans they can chant, boo, cheer etc
I'm not even going into my field (English Education); instead, I have a job lined up to be a freelance statistician at a sports network, so I'll be traveling to various games and doing stats for TV telecasts.
that's pretty badass. I have a math degree, and am certified to teach, but with education budgets getting cut across the nation, many schools aren't looking to hire.
really, the only way I'd like to use my math degree at this point would to be a statistician for an MLB team. that would rule.
He doesn't need a life Dougie, he's already a douchey waste of space (fake degree/work or not) so the proper thing might to be just p*ss off permanently (yes I meant it that way judging by his other posts)
I was there. And it wasn't that we didn't care about Bob, it was that her speech was just SO bad.
ReplyDeleteMaria is not only gorgeous, but she knows more about pro wrestling than 99.9% of WWE's current writers.

ReplyDeleteHow many different ways are there to spell her name, I count two up above and Ive seen a few more...

ReplyDeleteIf the woman's speech was like the one she wrote - she is at least classy.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I didn't feel like looking up the correct spelling when I sent Scott the email. If "Billy Madison" taught us that peeing your pants is cool, then she must've broke the meter when she shat her pants at WrestleMania.
ReplyDeleteAnd then, being the glory hog he is, HHH rips off the pants-wetting when he was brawling with Brock on RAW.
You must try and get a life.
ReplyDeleteAgreed
