Has DC Done Something Stupid Today?

Read more about DC's PR disasters at The Outhouse.

They've really been on a roll of bad decision-making since the New 52 started.  I was reading GLC #20, which is an "epilogue" to the First Lantern story, and I was like "Wait a minute, did I miss Green Lantern #20 where all these important plot points were supposed to be revealed first?" but no, they're just shipping it TWO WEEKS after the Epilogue to the big crossover they've been doing for the past two months.

Every month makes me more of a fan of Marvel, and the Marvel Unlimited app finally coming to Android helps with that even moreso.

  1. Oh good so I'm not alone in being a bit confused about that.Guess they were in a hurry to get that "exciting new direction" going or whatever. Too bad. I liked seeing Guy interact with his family but I guess that's over now. Back to wait-and-see mode. Hope the new creative teams don't fuck the lanterns up.

  2. I'm a DC guy myself but since The New 52, the company has been awful. Outside of Batman and a couple of other series, DC has given us terrible stories that are insulting to the characters and the readers. Not because of the changes and retconning but more because the material just plain sucks.

I think what has been really telling is the recent Eisner Awards, which had virtually NO DC nominations of any kind. It's actually quite pathetic. Hell, I'm starting to like IMAGE more than DC now!

  3. Oh wow, I got the epilogue and honestly thought I must have missed an issue. Good to know it wasn't my fault.

  4. This. I'm also a DC guy, but I've dropped almost everything at this point. At least before the New 52 I had decades of nostalgia to go on when the stories weren't as good.

  5. does anyone watch AT4W? It's this awesome web-series with this dude who reviews comics (bad ones: All Star Batman & Robin) and provides some cool history on the subject, too. Here's a link: http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/linkara/at4w/13422-asbr01

  6. Try reading his comics. Hard to take a critic seriously when their own stuff is awful.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Actually, each issue has "wrath of the First Lantern Part..." In it.

  8. Uh, no, you're an idiot. Scott Keith doesn't wrestle but understands what makes a good match / program / character. Roger Ebert never made a good movie but knew more about what appeals to audiences both general and niche then really any other critic, and I've never coded a game but have many strong opinions on them.

Of course everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but yours is wrong.

  9. nah, I just like the show and figured I'd post about it in a comic-related thread.

  10. Linkara is not even close to Roger Ebert. Or Scott.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Well, actually, I disagree. As someone who's worked pretty closely with Roger Ebert, and watched a *lot* of movie, comic, game, and other forms of criticism across the internet, I actually think that the AT4W guy is *really* *really* good. He's educational, entertaining, and seems to have a real passion for the industry. I'm not a fan of everything the guy has done, but I really do think he puts out quality content on a weekly basis.

    But again, I think you're a troll.

  12. And I think you're a fanboy who went off-topic to shill Linkara using a vague pretense.

  13. I miss buying comics. I need to find out where I left off and go from there.

    ReplyDelete
  14. OK, reading comics on my iPad, every other crossover DC has done since the New 52 has hit, the issue description starts with "continued from..." and ends with "continued in..." - I haven't noticed that at all with Wrath... Maybe I need to pay more attention...

    ReplyDelete
  15. I dunno, bad comic decisions + bad comic reviews seem pretty similar in topic to me.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I have a feeling you and I have very different opinions of comics.
Johns is pretty much the only guy keeping me reading.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I imagine that's what Silver Age fans said when Crisis happened.

  18. Titles I read and love: Green Lantern, Green Lantern Corps (most of the time), Aquaman, JLA, Batman, Batman and Robin, All-Star Western, Threshold (soon to be cancelled and replaced by Larfleeze), Green Arrow (since Lemire took over).
Marvel titles I read and enjoy: Thor.

    ReplyDelete
  19. My thoughts as well. Glad I didn't read Corps yet. What a blunder from editorial/corporate.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Apparently Guy is going to be headlining Red Lanterns, so don't hold your breath on that.

  21. I think much lies in personal opinion. I used to watch Linkara's stuff years ago but I found it to quickly become very repetitive, the humor tedious and no more educational then reading a Newsarama or Comic Alliance story about whatever he might have been reviewing. Ultimately not really adding anything in the way of criticism but more of just an angry summary.
I tried to watch some of the more recent stuff but I found myself not really caring for these sketches and on-going storyline and skipping them all-together.

Not saying you're wrong, but opinion wise I can't agree. Though his Lightbringer comic is pretty bad and some of the decisions he explains about the story via the commentary just leaves me shaking my head.

  22. If I had to categorize myself, I've always considered myself a DC guy just because Batman is far and away my favorite comic book character, alongside the family and his rogues gallery. Outside of Batman though I really don't read much from DC. GL seems too sci-fi for my taste(just from my outside knowledge of it)

I'm more of a "grounded" characters kind of guy. I mainly read Batman, Batman & (insert monthly character here) Daredevil, and Punisher. Plus Ultimate Spider-Man and Superior. I've also started reading the All New and Uncanny X-Men, and Hawkeye too. So I've definitely become a higher volume Marvel reader. Batman keeps me at DC.

  23. It's the inside title page. Not the cover, but inside the comic itself.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I wanted to like All-New X-Men. I grew up on the X-verse. But man, time travel was about the last way for them to bring back lapsed X-fans like me.
    Daredevil seems awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Daredevil has been amazing. Especially the last few issues. I started reading with #23 and it's building to something intriguing. If you haven't been reading it, 23 is the place to start.

I've never read any X-Men so I don't even know if All New or Uncanny are the place to start but you gotta jump in somewhere!

  26. I'd have loved to see Miller have a longer run on Batman before he fell off a creative cliff.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Agreed on Daredevil. I read the first 10 or so issues but stopped buying due to too much backlog. I need to catch up at some point.

  28. Don't get me wrong, the guy is an extremely talented writer, and I read a lot of what he writes (Green Lantern got MUCH better when he took it over, and Justice League has been great). But whenever I've seen him - in interviews, at con panels I've been to and a couple signings - the guy just rubs me the wrong way. I admit it's a completely knee-jerk reaction with no basis in actuality. Just my own personal bias as I continue to read what the guy writes.

  29. I wonder why the GL crossovers are the only ones that haven't been marked in the issue descriptions that are put out? Do they just assume anyone reading one GL book is reading them all? Doesn't really help those of us who can't flip through a book on the shelves.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yes, they do. But fear not, for I have read them all and this latest crossover is mostly self contained to each book.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Man, I've always loved Geoff in interviews. Comes off as one of the genuine nice guys. I highly recommend his appearances on Kevin Smith's Fatman on Batman podcast.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Truth. GL and Corps are generally the only ones worth reading, though I liked the last couple issues of New Guardians.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Aquaman is a blast. Pick up the first trade if you get a chance.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Really its just insulting. It makes it the readers responsibility to not spoil the ending to *their* big blockbuster because they fucked up. Either get another artist to finish the issue or delay Corps. It really disgusts me.

    ReplyDelete
  35. It's on my Amazon wish list, as I heard it was awesome. Just waiting on some spare cash and/or have someone buy it for me.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Daredevil is great. X books are generally decent. Avengers titles though are pretty much unreadable with the exception of Uncanny Avengers.

    ReplyDelete
  37. You and the majority of the DC Comics-reading populace.
