QOTD - May 31st, 2013

What's the one moment/match you wish you were front row for?

I'd have to go with one of my all time favorites, Rock vs Hogan from WM18. I've always been a mark for Hogan, especially for the nWo. So, to get the nWo, plus a return of classic Hogan, I would have screamed myself voiceless during that match.

Comments

  1. I'd go with Cena/Lesnar from Extreme Rules. Being up close to that brutality would probably make it a much more intense experience than watching on TV.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Cena vs. Punk at Money in the Bank. That was a ridiculously fun environment that night and I'd have loved to be a part of it.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I'm glad I wasn't there because if I was I would have ended up becoming some sort of internet meme or the new "it's still real to me damnit" guy.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I was in the third row for Joe/Kobashi but first row, I'd go Austin/Bret Wrestlemania 13

    ReplyDelete
  5. Bash at the Beach 96

    ReplyDelete
  6. Would have loved to be front row for Jack/HHH at the 2000 Rumble. the closest I've actually been to a historic moment was sitting a few rows back from where Gene Snitsky punted a baby into the crowd.

    ReplyDelete
  7. in the first row there would be a good chance of getting hit by the people trying to hit the ring with the ton of trash that showed the ring.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Strange choice by me but I am going to say WCW Sin pay per view in 2001 with the Sid injury.

The reason I choose this is because I would like to have been in front row just to see how how gruesome his leg injury was and how long it took the medics to get him out of the ring.

I would like to have seen the facial expression on Sid just to see if he how much pain he was going through or was he a tough so of gun and was able to withstand it.

Again, a strange choice by me but I just wanted to share that. If I get criticized for this then I completely understand.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Either of the last two Post-WM Raws. Just for the atmosphere.

    ReplyDelete
  10. My choice, as well. I can only imagine what the people sitting directly behind the announce table must have thought when Foley was thrown off - for a moment there, they probably expected him to land in their laps!

Having been to more then a few Yankees 90's playoff games I know what it's like to be there when a stadium come unglued. For that reason I have to agree and go with Hogan vs Rock

    ReplyDelete
  12. first raw after wrestlemania this year

    ReplyDelete
  13. No question - Steamboat beating Flair for the NWA World title at Chi-Town Rumble '89. Still one of my all time biggest mark out moments.

    ReplyDelete
  14. This would be way up on my list too.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Cena/Punk, MITB:

    1. A legitimate, not-even-debatable 5-star match.

    2. The biggest moment ever for my favorite wrestler ever.

    3. An absolutely nuclear Chicago crowd. I still regret going to that Sox/Cubs game two weeks before instead of MITB.

    4. If a tiebreaker was required (there's not, but if something else was close), everything preceding it made it an all-time great show.

    ReplyDelete
  16. AverageJoeEverymanMay 31, 2013 at 8:00 AM

Foley winning his first title. Favorite wrestler finally winning the big one, the pop for Austins music everything. As a second would be the Dallas 10 Man Tag in 2000. Still my favorite Raw match with an incredibly hot crowd.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Two other moments that would be in my Top 10.

If we're rewinding time and not time traveling with current-day knowledge, WMXX would be way high on my list, with Benoit and Eddie celebrating their world titles in the middle of the ring to close one of the biggest wrestling events ever.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Damn, took my choice.

    ReplyDelete
  19. That tag match is so insane. Those fans were going nuts the entire match, even for Too Cool, who were over but not on the level of The Rock or HHH. It was sort of like Canadian Stampede but at least you expected it out of the Calgary fans.

They can never get a hot crowd like that anymore that isn't an anomaly (Post WM crowd, super return like Brock or Rock or a MITB title switch on TV). When was the last time there was a main-event match on a regular RAW that had crazy heat?

    ReplyDelete
  20. As a Bret mark, I wish I was the cameraman for the El Dandy promo.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Great choice. Could you imagine being front row, and just do the right of the Spanish Table, so you'd actually have to fly back as Foley came flying under neath the rail? That would blow your fucking mind.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Did you know that Sid didn't want to do that spot? But an agent backstage insisted over and over. That agent? Johnny Ace.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Since I just re-watched it, I'll say the clock counting down to Jericho debuting on RAW.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Ditto to this.

    ReplyDelete
  25. The last Nitro ever would have been cool and surreal to attend.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I never knew that. Sid never sued them?

    ReplyDelete
  27. A few come to mind...
    - Austin/Rock WM X7 - 2 of the 3 biggest stars ever at the apex of their wrestling fame

    - Montreal 97.
    - Rocks return in 2011. Wasn't a huge fan at that time but it seems that it was a well kept secret...I would have marked out seeing him make his WWE return after 7 years and his subsequent great promo

    ReplyDelete
  28. I guess I'll go with Hulk/Rock at WM18 too, since I'm racking my brain and got too many choices.

The moment he starts hulking up after kicking out of the rock bottom....man...

    ReplyDelete
  29. I could be mis-remembering, but the pre-WM RAW match between Cena and Punk had some crazy heat.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I know this wasn't the intent of the question, but sitting in the front row sometimes isn't all that great. Being a little farther back and elevated is a better view.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Christopher HirschMay 31, 2013 at 9:23 AM

I'd like to be four or five rows back. Sat front row at a football game and while its cool to be so closer, you could barely see anything with all the players in front of you.

Moment wouldn't matter, just being that close would be cool.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Rock vs. Austin, WM X7. Forget the match. Austin's entrance and the finale alone sounded more like a crowd finally getting to hear 'Paranoid'.

I was at Rock/Hogan, and it was awesome. My friends and I were anti-Rock pro-nWo so we were pleasantly surprised when 90% of the stadium started rabidly cheering for Hogan. I know "the crowd had nothing left" is Triple H's go to excuse but I honestly don't know what they could have put on next that the crowd was going to get into as much or even close to as that. Jericho and Triple H were too of my favorites and I was the only one in our group excited to see it and even I didn't have anything left for it.

    ReplyDelete
  34. This is probably mine, with Rock v. Hogan a close second. MITB was just a completely different environment, like a home college basketball/hockey/soccer game moved to a wrestling format. People forget that the MITB matches themselves were very good -- DB won the Smackdown MITB and Miz had that near comeback in the Raw MITB where the crowd went nuts. The crowd just seemed to lift the wrestlers and then it culminated in the emotional main.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Bret Hart Vs DBS at Wembley Stadium, Summerslam 92

It was the moment and match that made me a wrestling fan for life and 10 year old me would have exploded had he been in the front row

    ReplyDelete
  36. The Lesnar one more than the last one. Daniel Bryan revolt, Lesnar returns and kicks the hat, you get to crap on Cena "You're a Loser."

    ReplyDelete
  37. Yeah, Dallas 10-man was all sorts of awesome

    ReplyDelete
  38. Hands down one of my favorite moments ever. That pop is huge.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I actually just saw that match for the first time just days ago. Great stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Orton/Christian was also great, with a DQ finish that was actually a perfect ending, followed by Randy going beserk. Show/Henry was also about *** in my opinion. What a show.

    MELINA VS> ALICIA FOX

    ReplyDelete
  42. I was thinking WMXX, too. It was disappointing watching on PPV at the time, and is almost completely unwatchable now, but looking at it objectively, it was filled with moments/star power and had the greatest moment ever at the end. Even now, it'd be cool at least to say I got to see Eddie for that.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Scream09_HartKillerMay 31, 2013 at 11:46 AM

I would've loved to have been at Bret's hotel room the night Flair, Savage and Michaels came by to watch "the" match. I'm sure like them I'd have had tears in my eyes.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Chi-Town Rumble - Flair vs. Steamboat.

My #2 choice would be Hulk joining Nash & Hall.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I was about 20 rows back behind the announcers for that. Had no idea where Foley landed, he just disappeared from my field of vision.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I attended WM XX live and the Benoit win at the time gave me the biggest goosebumps. The moment was absolutely incredible.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Punk/Cena MITB 2011.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Post-28 Raw way, way more. That was actually a good Raw.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Agree. Nothing Vince coulda done short of a returning Bret Hart being led to the ring by a naked Sable and Torrie Wilson would have been able to follow that. HHH and Jericho should have sucked it up and gone on 2nd to the top.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Keep beating that horse. I'm sure it's pulped corpse fertilizing the ground will eventually produce turnips that won't have any blood in them, no matter how hard you squeeze!

    ReplyDelete
  51. The raw after TLC 2011 would've been pretty awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  52. It's interesting that WWE buys out WCW, and for some reason felt the need to put all the people in charge over there in charge at his company, with his daughter, replacing all the guys that made his company successful in the first place.

Seriously, he replaced Jim Ross with Johnny Ace as VP of Talent Relations.

    ReplyDelete
  53. If we're talking going into the match pure, not knowing what I know now and being the age I was when it happened, I'd maybe go Hogan vs. Warrior at WM 6, or Bret vs. Shawn in Montreal. Seeing Hogan/Warrior in the front row would have blown my 10-year-old mind. At my current age and with hindsight, it would probably be Austin/Hart at WM 13, or one of Foley's big matches.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Survivor Series 97. Just to witness the screwjob

    ReplyDelete
  55. Savage/Warrior, as long as we get to include the after-match happenings.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Malenko vs. Guerrero - ECW farewell match. Stumbling across that match (and ECW in general) on late night cable made me a wrestling addict for life.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Probably the HBK/Taker HITC match, just because it's my favorite match. And while not quite matches, I would have loved to be in the front row (or anywhere in the building) during the very beginning of the nWo angle. One other match I wish I was in the front row: Adam Cole and Matt Hardy at Final Battle a few months back, just so I could express my displeasure about it in person.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Didn't Sid even say "I've never come off the top rope in my life" or something to that effect?

    ReplyDelete
  59. What's even worse is when that happens at a hockey game. Not only is trash hitting you from behind, but half empty water bottles and shit are bouncing off the glass and hitting you in the face. If you're gonna throw garbage you should at least have the common courtesy to hit your target.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I don't really have anything original to add. Cena/Punk at MitB and Taker/Foley HIAC would be the two biggest. Third on the list would probably have to be the first ECW ppv, for the emotional moments with Funk and the rest of the crew.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Oh yeah it was an amazing card. Orton/Christian was awesome too.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Taker/HBK - WM 25
    Goldberg/Hogan - Nitro in Atlanta
    Joe/Punk II

    ReplyDelete
  63. Not a common one but I would love to have been front row for one of my top 5 favorite matches of all time--HBK vs HHH from Raw on December 29, 2003.

World title match, in HBK's hometown in a raucous arena that was larger than average for a Raw.

That match was so good, an these two drew me in so much that towards the end of the match, I (and the live crowd) bought a STRAIGHT RIGHT HAND as a hot near fall.

    ReplyDelete
  64. On some level, you have to admire his commitment.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Really??? Out of all the great matches and moments there have ever been, you choose this so you can sing along to the Fandango music?

    ReplyDelete
  66. I was there for Foley's title win. In the very back row of the building. It was better that way so I could watch the whole crowd explode and jump out of their chairs when Austin's music hit. It was such a goosebumps inducing moment.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I was lucky enough to be front row for Eddie Guerrero's title win over Brock Lesnar at the Cow Palace and I don't know if I'd trade that moment for anything. It's far and away my favorite moment as a fan. I grew up going to WWF house shows at the Cow Palace and I can remember seeing Hogan, Warrior, Andre, Macho and others there as a kid, so the moment is even more special for me. The place was electric for Eddie and the match was fantastic live. Eddie was a guy I'd followed since WCW and I was ecstatic to see him win the big one in person. He jumped right on top of my afterwards and left a lump on my forehead where his knee collided with my head. It was the best.

If I got to choose another moment, I think I'd go with the 10 man at Calgary Stampede. The crowd reaction to the Hart Foundation's entrance alone is one of my favorite moments in wrestling. One of the matches I've gone back and watched dozens of times over the years and I never get tired of it.

Just to throw a different choice out there since everyone seems focused on WWF/E moments, I'd like to have been at PWG's Steen Wolf to see Super Dragon's surprise return. PWG really rekindled my love for wrestling back in 05/06 when I was getting burnt out by WWE. I've been to four or five PWG shows and they've always been immensely fun. The crowd reaction when the lights turn on and Super Dragon is standing in the ring for the first time in five years is awesome.
