I'm pretty saddened by this. He'd really become one of the top characters in lucha with his faux goody-goody act.

ReplyDeleteI don't feel bad about death the way a lot of people do... I know that offends people and I regret that it does so, but... that is just how I am I guess. I say all of this so I don't come across as a total asshole when I say I find it to be a relief when a wrestler dies from natural or accidental causes. I know it is still tragic... but to me it is less tragic than someone throwing their life away like we have seen so many times... lung cancer is very painful, I'm glad he is out of pain.

ReplyDeleteSad news. I liked Garza from when I first saw him at the '97 Rumble and later that year in WCW. He had crossover potential and seemed like he could've been big in TNA before the foolish steroid bust. R.I.P.

ReplyDeleteLung cancer sucks...but it's something that happens. This isn't a case of death by wrestling, so I'm going to treat it as I would any other Big C death. A part of life.
I don't know why, but I've always been a huge fan of, and greatly amused by, the pervasive notion among wrestling fans (myself included) that when a wrestler passes away, all he apparently wants to do once he gets to Heaven is wrestle.
ReplyDeleteNot see old loved ones. Not discover the mysteries of the universe. Just strap on his boots and teach John Lennon how to run the ropes while telling Bruce Lee he doesn't know how to work and he was a lousy intercontinental champion.

I loved Konnan's second shoot interview. He gives great insight and had an awesome line about Nash saying that Mysterio was too small for anyone to take seriously. Konnan states how people wouldnt see Rey as a person whose ass they could kick but rather see him as a guy who could do cool moves because no one think's any of this is real.
ReplyDeleteI remember for that half minute that they tried to start up their own lucha thing in WWF, WWF magazine hyped Garza as the big breakout star, and then a few months later he was lost in the WCW shuffle. Sad to see someone go so young.
