The Streak in doubt?

http://www.wrestlinginc.com/wi/news/2013/0515/562702/the-undertaker-going-into-wwe-hall-of-fame-next-year/

This report says Undertaker is being highly considered for the Hall of Fame next year. With it being basically obvious he's facing Cena next year, does this put the result of the Streak in doubt? And if Cena DOES end the Streak and New Orleans happens to be a smark-heavy crowd, how big would the riot be?

John Cena is not turning heel, and the streak is not ending.

  1. Are you sure Cena can overcome the odds?

  2. Have Ambrose beat him.

  3. Did you hear, guys? Cena's gonna turn heel and end the streak!

My head hurts reading the e-mails you're sent.

I think he should keep the streak - I know 20 years of employment and the millions he's made doing it should be reward enough, but he's been there 20 years and was never really "the guy". Michaels goes down as the best ever, Austin goes down as the biggest star of the 90's, Hogan goes down as the biggest star of the 80's, Triple H runs the company, Bret goes down thinking he's all of the above...Wrestlemania is a fitting tribute to Undertaker's career.

It'd be a great tool to use to make someone new, but WWE is either intentionally trying to avoid most logical wrestling booking techniques or they're really stupid so I don't trust them to do it right. Cena winning would be sickening though.

  6. Sooooo you're saying there's a chance.

  7. shield vs undertaker 3 on 1 elimination handicap match. he eliminates 2 but is weakened down enough for the surviving Reigns to pick up the W. only way i'd accept the streak ending and even then, i don't think i'd feel right.

  8. No kidding. How in the blue hell is that obvious at this point? Plus, most of the comments on this blog are generally reasonable (a few obvious trolling exceptions), so who in the fuck is sending this idiocy?

  9. And he completely ignores MY email for this! Pssssh

  10. HERE'S AN IDEA: IT'S KINDA CRAZY BUT I BET I WOULD WORK IN JAPAN!

WHAT IF THE UNDERTAKER WRESTLED AS MARK CALLOWAY AND WRESTLED ANOTHER UNDERTAKER? THE OTHER UNDERTAKER WOULD THEN WIN, THUS ENDING THE STREAK, AND STARTING A NEW SAGA WITH THE UNDERTAKER CHARACTER.

IT COULD BE LIKE HOW THE TIGER MASK GIMMICK HAS BEEN RECYCLED TIME AND TIME AGAIN.

FANS WOULD PROBABLY SHIT ON IT BUT FUCK EM'!

  11. YOU ARE SENT? IS THAT SOME INSIDE JOKE OR A BOTCH?

  12. Everything about this is awesome

    ReplyDelete
  13. Savage goes down as the best ever.

    fixed.

    ReplyDelete
  14. The Undertaker passing on his gimmick is really not such a bad idea.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Nah. The reason....wait, hang on. Lemme speak in CAPS LOCK MAN language.

THE REASON THE UNDERTAKER WORKS IS BECAME CALLOWAY (AND WWE'S WRITING DEPARTMENT) WORKED HIS ASS OFF TO MAKE IT WORK FOR OVER TWO DECADES.. MARK CALLOWAY IS UNDERTAKER AND UNDERTAKER IS MARK CALLOWAY.

  16. That'd definitely be a first, no?

  17. I want it to be Cena and I want Undertaker to kick out of a super AA off the top rope (for the requisite gigantic pop) and I want Undertaker to reverse the STF into the gogoplata, get a tap out and then retire. If that's what would take place, I would count down the days to WrestleMania.

    ReplyDelete
  18. You're right on all accounts... the fans would shit on it and it would go over huge in Japan.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Would actually play into the attack on Smackdown too!

  20. ''you are sent'' is grammatically correct, dammit.

  21. Anyone who gives the WWE creative department the benefit of the doubt over anything is asking for trouble. That's like the equivalent of trying to box with a police officer at a license check: you can only float like a butterfly for so long before Angry John Q. Law ends your world with pepper spray and/or a taser.

The company panicked and felt that John Cena needed to be reestablished as the King of the Ant Hill by upending the Rock, despite having been on top for eight years plus. When the ratings start crapping out again (and they will), they'll do what they've consistently done ad nauseum since 2006 when the backlash first began: they'll try to build up John Cena by having him destroy the "one challenge left" or what have you.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Meltzer said that's the plan. And there aren't many big stars left for Taker to face at Wrestlemania.

    ReplyDelete
  23. damn, i doubt they'll top that in the actual match. you spoiled us!

    ReplyDelete
  24. The difference is Tiger Mask wears a mask. A new guy playing Undertaker wouldn't have that luxury, and fans would shit on it (as they should).

A more accurate comparison is that a "new" Undertaker would be much like the "new" Midnight Express. It just wouldn't fucking work. Mark Calloway is the only guy who could ever make that gimmick work.

  25. Hey man, what's up with your site?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Not without establishing momentum.

    ReplyDelete
  27. It's more likely UT retires before next year than the Streak ends.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Agree lots. Bret made me laugh. Oh, you!

    What about Rock?

And how sad is it that for a huge stretch of years after that I'm thinking "Well, there's Edge. Um. Bobby Lashley?"

    ReplyDelete
  29. I like the idea of Calaway passing on the Undertaker gimmick. Why the hell not? I'm sure there's someone out there talented enough to pull it off. Probably not as well for as long a duration, but for a time, nonetheless.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I like it too. We discussed this in another rant and there were some good ideas. I think it would be a really cool enduring character if they got the right person in place for him to pass the torch to.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Take a guy, Roman Reigns for example, and have him beat the Undertaker. Then do a angle where Taker possess Reigns.

    ReplyDelete
  32. They panicked by making a three year plan where Cena got hurt by the Rock, Cena got beat by the Rock, and then Cena beat the Rock, and adhering to that game plan despite it being brutally obvious from a year out? Where's the "panic"? Am I missing something?

  34. The only way he wins it is if we see some vintage Cena

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yes; they jettisoned a far more interesting and fresh character (CM Punk) in favor of a storyline that was lukewarm at best. Granted, we got an awesome Punk-Taker match, but where is the focus at now? Cena. Where will it remain for the remainder of the summer, possibly into next year? Cena.

If the entire history of professional wrestling was dictated by 'following the script', then we'd probably not even be here to have this discussion today.

    ReplyDelete
  36. You'd fit on the creative team, that's for sure...

    ReplyDelete
  37. That's not "panic". That's what I was talking about. They stubbornly refused to budge on their direction. that's pretty much the opposite of panic.

    ReplyDelete
  38. i think Reigns would be made if it happened. he's a heel, it doesn't have to be clean or anything, he can always say how he beat the undertaker at wrestlemania for heat.

other than that i agree with you on everything though. i don't think it should happen.
