A new Kliq?

> Jesse Baker Mode: ON
>
> Noticing that HHH has been "high" on certain talent over the years (Sandow, Sheamus, Ambrose) and Bryan being HBK's "star pupil" do you think that a new Kliq: TNG could form in the the next 2-3 years?

Uh, let's leave Jesse Baker mode off, please.  Unless you want me to troll you with how awesome Superior Spider-Man is.  Because its pretty fucking awesome.

Anyway, the total neutering of talent combined with HHH's bullheaded ego pretty much guarantees that there won't be another Kliq any time soon.  That would mean that someone else was on his level, you see.

  1. Can't see another Kliq arrising.

The Kliq were able to hold so much power because a) the WWE was in a weak state financially so was desperate to hold on to whatever draws it had and b) WCW was there with the ever present threat of signing people away.

As such the Kliq had Vince over a barrel and were able to dictate their will to a large degree.

Over the past decade Vince has very deliberately built his company around the idea that no man is bigger than the WWE. The repeated depushing of new stars may be counter-productive in so many ways but it does achieve the aim of making sure everyone knows their place.

Whilst theres nowhere else to go Vince / HHH will hold all the cards and so I can't see a new kliq forming. HHH will have his pet projects of course but thats different from the kliq which was very much the tail wagging the dog

  2. ..actually Superior Spider-Man IS awesome.

  3. Batman is awesome also. Basically, anything Jesse hates is worth a look.

  4. The whole problem with another Kliq forming is that you need other people to match HHH in terms of ego and political power. Not happening, especially with HHH hiring old friends like Billy Gunn and Sean Waltman as road agents/the future Stooges.

  5. Strikes me that if he ever had enough clout Orton would be the type to form a little group around him and hold others down.

But as you say no-one is going to beat trips for power (and he knows how to play that game anyway)

  6. And (again) HBK had not a lot to do with dragon's training. He mostly just cashed the checks.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Maybe so, but he's also Regal's "star pupil" and Regal is also tight with Triple H.

And even if that's true, he's still TOUTED as an HBK pupil on commentary, so even if HBK never actually met him, his success still puts HBK over.

    ReplyDelete
  8. And AGAIN, that's not true. He trained at Michaels' wrestling school to learn the basics, then trained at Regal's dojo thing after he was already out working the road. Think of it like Michaels as the pre-requisite courses and Regal as graduate school. Any of the "he didn't train with Michaels" stuff has more to do with the fact that Michaels didn't really do the actual training, it was just his school.

Regardless of any of that, Michaels was known for pushing his three students hard to HHH and Vince. It didn't end up working out for Kendrick and Cade (and London, who wasn't a Michaels student but trained with Rudy Boy after the school was closed), but by all accounts Michaels went to bat for them and for Bryan. He even put Bryan over in his book long before he ever made it to WWE.

  9. You just basically agreed with what I said. HBK didn't train him. It was just his school. Unless you consider graduates of Washington University to have taught by George Washington.

    ReplyDelete
  10. But not his trainer, as the original emailer suggested.

  11. There was never a clique. It was just a bunch of the boys who grew up loving wrestling and they were just showing their passion for THIS business. If you don't believe me then just ask one of the clique ;). Lol

  12. New Klique: Punk, Bryan, Ambrose, and Rollins?

    ReplyDelete
  13. That would require some type of intelligence and/or people skills and from reading interviews it seems pretty apparent that Orton has neither. Say what you want about Nash but he's pretty savvy under normal circumstances and when it comes to looking out for #1, he's a goddamned genius.

And really that's why Orton wouldn't do any organizing even if he was intelligent and people liked him. The Kliq formed when they started looking at each other's paychecks and looking out for each other. Orton already is grossly overpaid for what he brings in and lives a pretty charmed life within WWE. He has no reason to be upset with anything at all.

  14. I bet your boss just loves you, what with you never being wrong and all.

  15. I knew you weren't. I was agreeing with you.

  16. Hogan, Disciple, Honky, and Knobbs

  17. I prefer to see Cena as the One Man Kliq.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I am the original emailer.

    Let me explain myself.

Not in the sense where are gonna gain political ower but use each other to get higher on the card and get each other over.

Obviously no one is gonna usurp HHH anytime soon.

Just seeing that those guys are the guys that HHH likes the most will he protect those guys moreso than the rest.

Another effect of this, will Cena, now the locker room leader, become the new "BSK" guy in Taker's place?

    ReplyDelete
  19. I've never heard of stories about Cena helping others behind the scenes, those are usually reserved for Punk. It sucks that he may be considered the "locker room leader". He appears to be a nice guy, but I've always gotten the vibe that he's a lone wolf in the back. Before I get flamed for this, this is my impression from reading the dirt sheets over the years and have zero facts to back it up. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Where do you get that from?

    ReplyDelete
  21. You mean, how do I draw that opinion? The fact that he's been on top for years and Punk is the only star to get the rub from Cena. You can blame Vince and the bookers and they share the bulk of the fault, but if you're going to be a leader, you have to speak up and Cena is not know for that. The most recent cases were the way Ryder got buried in their angle and how he had to crush Ziggler on Raw soon after losing to him on ppv. Just a couple of examples that help me draw my opinion.

Like I stated in my last sentence though, I have zero facts to back this up.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Just because he hasn't been permitted to put them over, doesn't mean he hasn't lobbied for guys. I've heard that he has pushed for Ryder and Bourne and maybe Kofi. Guys that weren't even getting a look. I'm curious as to who you've heard punk putting over.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Bourne hasn't been seen in years and Kofi has had more ups and downs than a yo-yo. I guess he has no clout. I've heard countless of wrestlers (Miz, Ziggler, Kofi, Bryan) in interviews say that Punk is extremely helpful backstage and is not afraid to speak his mind about what's going on creative-wise. You've never heard this about Cena.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Bourne managed to fuck it up with the synthetic weed thing immediately after.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Antonio Cesaro and Alberto Del Rio would probably be in it too. As they're tight with Punk, IRL. Or atleast Del Rio used to be, not sure if that's still the case.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Orton, Cena, and others like HBK banded together and lobbied to get Mr. Kennedy released. So Orton has some clout and political power in WWE.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Mr.Kennedy is possibly the worst wrestler of the last ten years.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Really? Really? Really?

    *cough*

I'm hinting that The Miz has him covered. Just.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I would've said Cesaro but he clearly isn't getting any benefits from his friendship with Punk.

But if you graduate from Washington University you say you are a graduate of that school, not a graduate of your science professor.
