Hey Scott, been a fan for a year and so and I'd like your thoughts on Bray Wyatt. That his character is awesome, we can all see, but do you think in-ring wise he's at the same level or close? Since you can see/predict that they're gonna push him big time, you think his in-ring work is ready for this?
Thank you!
Oh yeah, from what I've seen on NXT he's absolutely ready. Him and Kassius Ohno should have been called up MONTHS ago, if not sooner. His flunkies are another thing entirely, but if they're keeping the Wyatt Family gimmick intact then it'll get over pretty much instantly and they can disguise the limitations of the flunkies.

ReplyDeleteLuke Harper/Brodie Lee can more than hold his own.
Creepiest debut vignettes ever, but also super awesome. "Send whoever you want, just don't send anyone you want back."
ReplyDeleteagreed..
ReplyDeleteI'm more curious who they're going to feud with out of the gate and whether they'll get the same kind of protection that The Shield got/gets.

ReplyDeleteHeh, that guy perfectly embodies the embarrassing portion of our fan base.
ReplyDeleteMust've hit home for some super-smark. Already down voted.
ReplyDeletelol, that just may be you. Remember, you're the #1 heel of the BoD.
ReplyDeleteIf the current tv creative team weren't there id say this group has such outside the box potential. But I see the writers and steph following the same stale TV format with them. I hope I'm wrong. The producers who made those vignettes actually should have a lot more pull in creative with the company. The videos have been tremendous.
ReplyDeleteHusky Harris > Samoa Joe
ReplyDeleteYeah, I said it. And, yeah, I'm basing that off his NXT run three years ago.
Workrate?
ReplyDeletei havent seen any of the recent vignettes linkage pour favor?

ReplyDeleteThey remind me of trailers/clips for the vampire show on HBO.
ReplyDeleteI for one look forward to his future 6 month feud with Brodus Clay and Kane.
ReplyDeleteReal Time with Bill Maher?
ReplyDeleteI loved their vignettes so far. They were peculiar, eerie, and mystique. Everything about them exemplifies what the envisioned villain looks like. I must say that WWE's rather cookie-cutter roster is going to be an actual good thing for them. After all, it should allow them to stand out even more. Horror-esque gimmicks are tough to do, though, especially with WWE's restrictions. Furthermore WWE hasn't been the best at booking multifaceted characters as of late either. I hope they utilize they correctly; WWE could do a lot of things with them.
ReplyDeleteYou've made this point before and again I say to you: you don't know what you're talking about, you don't watch anything other than WWE so you have no idea what Joe can do, and you are being a dildo by saying that.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I'll give you that Wyatt has the better gimmick now.
Bitch please. Luke Harper is the best worker of the three. Wyatt has him beat on promos (and Harper is good, he just sounds completely chill at all times and its hard to make that seem creepy). He doesn't have limitations. Now Erick Rowan on the other hand....
ReplyDeleteThis is why I asked him if he meant workratewise because there's just no way in any conceivable way that Wyatt is better than Joe in the ring. If he's tried to make this point before, well...smh.
ReplyDeleteLove that line. I also get creeped out by that look in Wyatt's eyes after he says "Run!" the first time.
ReplyDeleteWe just discussed this in the O'Haire thread, but the main issue with O'Haire was that as awesome as his "Devil's Advocate" vignettes were, he couldn't actually be the character in a live wrestling setting.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I've seen of Wyatt, he is MORE than capable of matching his gimmick within the ring and in delivering promos to a live audience. I am very fired up for the Wyatt Family's debut, I think they'll be a huge hit.
Dream On?
ReplyDeleteholy shit. very impressed.
ReplyDeletewho is the bald guy?
I saw their vignette that aired on Raw and it made me feel uneasy despite being a fan of the Wyatt Family.
ReplyDeleteThe Wyatt Family come off as soooooo much different than anything on the current roster. They're fresh, they're interesting, there's a vibe around these vignettes that hasn't been felt on TV since Punk dropped his pipe bomb. When that happened, you tuned in anxiously awaiting Punk's next promo. Now with the Bray Wyatt and Co. you have that same feeling. You want to see more.
ReplyDeleteNow the reality: we have a bunch of writers who will need to come up with something for this clan to do. As we have seen, the writers can lose focus on a character very quickly. Antonio Cesaro, anyone? It is on Bray Wyatt to get over in a live setting and evolve this group of characters. If the "universe" doesn't respond, look for the nuts to be cut off sooner rather than later. This just begs for creative to ditch the current way of thinking that episodic storytelling is what matters and just let guys create something for themselves and try their damndest to get it over.
I can't imagine there are more than 10 people on this blog that will get your reference, but I am proud to be one of them
ReplyDeleteHaha, no.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't matter if he does get over. Talk to Zach Ryder about that. The only thing that matters is if they have a story for him to tell. That's what separates a blob of solid mass like Ryback from a perpetually-over-but-terminally-ignored Kofi Kingston.
ReplyDeleteThat's crazy talk.
ReplyDelete"you don't watch anything other than WWE"
ReplyDeleteNot true. Sure, I don't tend to watch non-televised stuff, but I've watched TNA for most of their existence (and have their "Best of the X-Division" DVDs, as well). Joe has been in TNA for roughly EIGHT YEARS now; I think that's enough time to form an opinion.
I'm not saying that Joe is a bad wrestler, far from it - he's a talented "big man", and has had a number of really good matches. In my opinion, though, he's not the "OMG, 5* All The Time!" worker that he's hyped to be; sure, he can make a long match good, but he's not like a Bret Hart or a Chris Benoit that could make even a five-minute match really good. He seems to need those long, "epic" type battles to really bring the snow-flakes, whereas a guy like Daniel Bryan can do that in just a few minutes. I also think that Joe's the kind of guy that can certainly go and have a great match against a great opponent, but can't carry less-talented opponents the way any of the other guys I named (or Shawn Michaels, or Kurt Angle, etc.) could.
I just think Joe is over-hyped, that's all. Sure, you could show me some amazing ROH stuff he did (and I have no doubt that it'd be fantastic), but that's almost a decade ago.
By your logic, you're saying Husky Harris is as good as Shawn Michaels and Kurt Angle.
ReplyDeleteI remember being a little kid seeing it for the first time and thinking it was the same guy from Quantum Leap.
ReplyDeleteIs Joe really a 'big man' wrestler? He's the same size as your generic prototype performer only instead of chiseled muscles he is fat. 6,2 and 280 pounds... would you of classified Mick Foley as a 'big man' in the realms of wrestling?
ReplyDeleteI get the Waylon Mercy vibe from the guy when I immediately see him, which is a good thing as that character fucking rocked. Although I also see Waylon Mercy as in I dont see him being around for long unfortunently
ReplyDeleteRowan NEED'S to come out in that creppy goat mask. That would rock
ReplyDeleteHe's a fat man wrestler*
ReplyDeleteHell yeah. Erick Rowan popping into the frame wearing the lamb mask while Bray's singing "Mary Had A Little Lamb" may also be the creepiest thing ever seen on WWE TV.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Shield vs Wyatt Family could be really interesting.
ReplyDeleteNot at all.
ReplyDeleteIf: Wyatt > Joe
And: Shawn > Joe
... then that doesn't necessarilymean that I'm saying that Wyatt is equal to or greater than Shawn.
That's like saying that if 50 is more than 40, and 100 is more than 40, then 50 is more than 100.
That was my over-complicated way of saying "no, that's not what I said".
Well either way that's ridiculous. Its just infeasible that you could see some of the great matches Joe has had and compare them to the random ass matches Husky Harris had on NXT. You're just talking out your ass to push an agenda.
ReplyDeleteDouble Agreed.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I love Bray Wyatt's character and promo work, saying he's ahead of Luke Harper in the ring is just erroneous.
Bray's match with Jericho on NXT was solid but unspectacular.
Seconded. Whoever downvoted you for this is nuts.
ReplyDeleteWhen was the last new "Horror" gimmick in WWE? I think that is a big reason it is so fresh.
ReplyDeleteThat's my point, though - it's not fair to compare Joe's 45-minute affairs against great opponents to Wyatt's 5-minute throw-away matches.
ReplyDeleteI guess the point I've been trying to make is that I prefer Wyatt's 5-minute matches to Joe's 5-minute matches. In that way, I consider Wyatt a "better" worker.
As I said to Ryan Murphy:
ReplyDelete"That's my point, though - it's not fair to compare Joe's 45-minute affairs against great opponents to Wyatt's 5-minute throw-away matches.
I guess the point I've been trying to make is that I prefer Wyatt's 5-minute matches to Joe's 5-minute matches. In that way, I consider Wyatt a 'better' worker."
That still makes no sense. Wait until Wyatt actually puts up a few 5* matches before you even start comparing their work rates. Honestly, it makes you sound kind of dumb and I know you're a smart wrestling fan. Just stop it.
