QOTD - June 28th, 2013

Ahoy-hoy, shlebs from Sector-7G.

Today's QOTD comes from the creator of Glee, Mr. Ryan Murphy. He writes in to ask...

"Got a morbid QOTD candidate for you. The interview with Nancy Benoit's sister got me thinking: say you're Vince McMahon. You're running a show in Canada and David Benoit (Chris' older son) gets backstage and asks to speak to you. He tells you that it is still his dream to compete as a pro wrestler and he'd like a tryout for NXT. Would you let it happen? Do you try to discourage the kid from joining the business? Do you just tell him good luck but not have him involved in your company? And if you do sign him, do you ever address who his father was? I'd love to hear what everyone thinks of this."

On one hand, you know Vince is willing to exploit whatever he can. However, he's on such a crusade to erase Benoit from history, I doubt he'd want to hire his kid.

Me, myself, I would try to discourage him. Because first of all he's going to have trouble finding work due to his name. Second, you know there would be a promoter out there who would want to exploit the whole thing with his family. And third, his dad was one of the greatest technicians of all time, so he's constantly going to be in that shadow. There are far too many negatives for a business that just doesn't care about you.

Before we go, I'd like to promote my new ebook. It's a manual on how to safely download torrents. Such as what program to use, what video player, what websites are safe & offer the best quality. It has pictures as well in order to learn what certain symbols and such are. Like myself, I'm sure there are people who buy DVDs, but also want they've purchased on their computer, so that's where torrents come in handy. Or, if you've purchased a book, and would like it in ebook form as well. Obviously, some would use the power of torrents for evil, to take money out of the pockets of the meek in Hollywood, but that's not what this book is for. It's to simply help those who want to get more out of their legally obtained entertainment! The Greatest Guide To Downloading & Enjoying Torrents That You'll Ever Have

How say you?

Comments

  1. Ha, I get it. It's like head shops saying their product is "intended for tobacco ONLY". god bless disclaimers.

And yeah, I hold out hope that benoits son wants to take up being a librarian, or maybe a janitor.

I say let him try out. If he's not good enough to be on NXT then it's a non issue. If he is good enough then should he really be punished for the sins of the father. Let him go by his real name, (I assume it really is David Beniot) but don't make any mention of his dad, and the deal is that David is not allowed to reference him either.
On a related note did anyone find it odd on Raw that not only did Bryan take what looked to be head shots from a chair but when he incorporated the kendo sick into the Yes Lock it looked an awful lot like the Crossface?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Wow, intense question. I honestly don't know, it would all depend on David Benoit himself. Has he come to terms with his dads actions? Does he blame WWE? Does his agenda conflict with Vince's when it comes to promoting/erasing his dads memory? Might be a cop out answer but its all I got now.

    ReplyDelete
  4. If they ever signed Benoit's kid there is no way he keeps his name. They renamed Curt Hennig's kid and even Flair's daughter.

    ReplyDelete
  5. No way in hell. Since that incident, not only has drug testing become a lot more rigorous, but concussion/impact testing is now a very hot button topic to them. All of these things were "inspired" by Benoit's downfall.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Those smoke shops use to take that shit SERIOUS up here in Washington before pot was legal. I've seen people kicked out for asking to see a "weed pipe".

    ReplyDelete
  7. Hey Caliber, what MKV Player do you recommend.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Well, the Yes Lock is a Crippler Crossface but with an omaplata (sp) instead of just locking the arm between the legs.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Any good shop would. Makes life much easier all around.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I believe the proper term to ask for is "Water filtration device" when asking for a bong.

    ReplyDelete
  11. VLC player works pretty good.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I have to go with Scott's answer, nearly word for word. Not only all of that, but what are the chances that, even if the stars were to align, (he wanted to do it, Vince gave him a tryout) that he would be remarkable enough to overcome all of that?

There is almost zero chance. He would basically have to eclipse the capabilities of his father. That's a really, really tall order. Insurmountable even.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I'd never let Chris Benoit's kid on live WWE programming with a microphone.

    ReplyDelete
  14. "water filtered smoke extraction device, either tubular or another design"

    ReplyDelete
  15. To the poster talking about never letting him near a live mic: This would be like something out of "Gangs of New York" or "Ong Bak 2," no?

I could just see Vince or HHH touting David as overcoming all of the odds and celebrating him as a fine young man while settling up some karmic disparity. All the while, David has been plotting revenge on the people and business that destroyed his father and plans to hurt, maim, or embarrass them on the grandest stage of them all, Wrestlemania 33 at Cowboy Stadium.

HOWEVER, this would all be predicated on getting revenge for Chris Benoit instead of ON him. Benoit was a psychopathic killer, folks, remember that.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I think that Benoit's kid should be very strongly encouraged to find another line of work.
If he did choose to enter the wrestling business, Vince should stay away.
It's not the kids fault, but there's just too much baggage there.

    ReplyDelete
  17. You want people to pay you four bucks for a 14 page book on downloading torrents?

    ReplyDelete
  18. The shops around here (Toronto, and there are lots) have relaxed on that in recent years.
We've even got a few cafe's that let you smoke and will lend you pipes and vapourizers. Police tolerate it so far (and it's been quite a few years), as long as it's strictly bring your own, no dealing allowed, and 19+. They did shut one place down a couple of years back for selling pot brownies and milkshakes and stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  19. $3.99, actually.

Considering you download one movie that's worth $20, the book has paid for itself 5 times over. Not to mention there's no headaches of downloading something, and then you don't have the right codec and your crappy Windows Media Player won't play it. Because I've told you the idea player. I've told the person the ideal program for downloading the torrent. What the best websites are, and how to navigate them so you aren't downloading a bunch of spyware/malware crap. Then you also learn how to watch whatever you downloaded on different devices.

For people like us, the book is pointless. But to those who aren't that tech savy, or are weery of the torrent world, it's damn handy. I've had tons of people ask me how to download torrents. So, now they have a book.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yeah, VLC pretty much will play anything.

    ReplyDelete
  21. This. Even if he had good intentions to begin with... who KNOWS what would happen down the road to sour him on THIS BUSINESS and make him say something like "This business and you fans killed my family"

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yup. That's the player I recommend in the book. It's a flawless player, and I've never had a problem.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Thankfully Washington has stepped into the 1800's and realized how stupid it is to have pot illegal.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yeah, Nova Scotia still treats it like a bigger deal than our persciption med troubles. Or rampant Alcoholism.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Yeah, I didn't even consider it.

What if he ended up like that kid from Oz who wanted to be a CO?

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm surprised that such book is even necessary. Torrents have been around for years, who doesn't know how to download them and how to find good sites to do so from? The best thing I can recommend is to find a good tight knit community, get a membership and keep your ratio up. There, now everyone pay me...$0!

    ReplyDelete
  27. That's what has always pissed me off immensely. Things like pot & steroids are illegal, and completely demonized, with side-effects blown out of completely proportion, with their users made to look like drugged out pieces of shit.

Yet no one says a fucking thing about booze. When brought up, they simply say "it's legal". Despite the fact no one smoked weed and beat their kid. No one ever took testosterone, drove a car, and because of taking it crashed it head-first into someone.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Do you have a book about how I can download your book for free?

    ReplyDelete
  29. You know, you'd be very surprised at how necessary the book is. I thought the same way as you. But it's like how we look at adult wrestling fans. I was always under the assumption that all adult wrestling fans were like me, a smark. But they honestly aren't, at all. I'd say only a small number.

It's the same with torrents. Most people know nothing about them. They're afraid of viruses, or don't have the tech savy to figure it out. Like I said, I honestly have had a lot of people ask me how to do it. There's a market for it.

Also, I find a community only good for niche things, like wrestling torrents. Otherwise, I just use websites. I don't like having to keep a ratio.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Don't even get me started. We'll agree it's silly, and leave it at that.

    ReplyDelete
  31. By stupid you mean "Absolutely correct" right?

    ReplyDelete
  32. I wouldn't have the first idea how download a torrent.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Booze should be illegal also

    ReplyDelete
  34. Thank goodness that is a minority opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Well, I could tell you the website addy of where to go to get it for free. However, it's tricky. So, if you want to purchase my latest ebook, The Guide To Navigating The Website Where You Can Get Caliber's Guide To Torrents. It's only $3.99. That's less than 4 dollars!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Well, I know of a book that would help you greatly. But I'd prefer you buy mine instead.

    ReplyDelete
  37. You really think pot should be illegal?

    ReplyDelete
  38. I wouldn't have the first idea what to do with an ebook.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Agreed. It's the absolute worst.

    ReplyDelete
  40. This is terrible, but I just imagined WWE throwing away all sense of decency and morality, signing Benoit, and exploiting the hell out of his back-story. Like, Benoit comes in to win the title and prove for once and for all that he's not "a choker". Maybe he even wins it from Orton after Orton claims responsibility for the tragedy due to how badly he beat Benoit at Summerslam. They could even trot out Kevin Sullivan as Orton's new manager and imply that a conspiracy had existed between them.

The question is, if the WWE just did all this, created the most offensive and tasteless angle imaginable, like "The Aristocrats" of wrestling angles, would it be hilarious or horrifying?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Yes. It really should be illegal. As should alcohol, tobacco, and a lot of chemicals put in the food supply. All forms of poison should be outlawed.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Honestly, if you ever decide you want to get into them, it's very easy. I really like ebooks, because of the simple fact I have 10,000 books in my phone.

If you ever get into it, you can simply download the kindle app for your phone & computer. I also downloaded the nook app, because it works for all other ebook files besides the EPUB that kindle uses.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm going to have Dafuq your Dafuq. If you are unfamiliar with some of the best movies that featured avenging a father's death in the last 15 years, I don't know what else to say.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I've seen both movies... but I found your post hard to follow.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Here we go.

How about this: Nothing I say will change your mind. Nothing you say will change mine. How about we just let each other live our own lives, and talk about wrestling?

    ReplyDelete
  46. My phone has a rotary dial and is attached by cord to the wall. I could put my phone on a book, I suppose, but not sure how to put a book on my phone.
I wouldn't put my phone on 10,000 books in any event, because that would make it far too high to reach.

    ReplyDelete
  47. It is my responsibility as the person with the correct point of view to influence those with the incorrect point of view into behaving and thinking correctly.

    ReplyDelete
  48. So, you're ignorant AND self-rightous? You're so cool.

    ReplyDelete
  49. "So, you're accurate AND caring? You're so cool."

    FIFY

  50. I think they should not only hire him, but get him a valet and Hornswoggle as a crew and have him carry a Bible everywhere. Ominous!

    RIP Doink (the original)

    ReplyDelete
  52. Doink is dead.

    ReplyDelete
  53. You can't just tell people what they will agree to... you seem very afraid to defend your point of view... is it because you deep down know you are wrong?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Alcohol is no more a poison than carbon dioxide. In the case of alcohol, many studies have shown than moderate daily usage actually has health benefits. That doesn't sound like a poison to me.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Where was Kevin Nash?

    ReplyDelete
  56. There are people who think violence in movies, TV, and video games are poison. So we should get rid of that too. There was a guy in the 50's who thought comic books were a poison that caused asthma, and the youth of America to become violent criminals.

So by your logic, everything that everyone thinks is bad should be gone.

I mean, you have to be trolling, you just have to be. Either that or you attend West Boro Baptist.

    ReplyDelete
  57. He's definitely trolling.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Wrap yourself up in fallacious information that makes you feel better about your poor decision making all you want, I know it is hard for the weak to face the truth... alcohol impairs judgement, causes serious physical damage, causes serious psychological damage, and harms everyone around the alcoholic... and yes if you take even one sip you are an alcoholic... it would be lovely if everyone could make the right decision on their own... but when they can't it needs to be enforced for them.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Alright, damn you, that was some good trolling. You actually had me for a minute. You may have won the battle, but I will win....the next...battle.

    ReplyDelete
  60. All right CM Punk, we get it, straight edge means you're better than us.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I guess if you want to be a heel, there's really no better gimmick than "pure evil".
    Bravo Sir.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I am neither trolling, nor am I a member of any church (which doesn't even apply here so I am not sure why you brought it up)

Pop culture and the other things you mention do not cause physical harm... but they too should be censored to some extent if they are linked to negative outcomes. I am not familiar with the case you are talking about but clearly someone thinking comics cause asthma had no basis for his conclusion and should be ignored.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Agreed? Really? The Censorship police in the house. I'm a grown adult, I don't drink and drive and I shoud have the right to drink as much as I want as long as I don't hurt others. It's not my fault that there are irresponsible douche bags.

    ReplyDelete
  64. lol... no... though I guess I can see how you got there. I am not trolling or acting... this is just my cause... and it is the correct point of view.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Stop trolling, seriously. You made your point, fine. Move on.

    ReplyDelete
  66. No gimmick... I'm sorry if this makes people uncomfortable, but it is too important to back down on.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I am not trolling... would you please describe how what I am doing is trolling? Is this not a legitimate point of view? There are several people taking the other side, but because I am the minority I am trolling and they are not? Please explain...

    ReplyDelete
  68. Meh, I'm reasonably comfortable. I'm in a good chair.

    ReplyDelete
  69. That made me legitimately laugh out loud. llol?

    ReplyDelete
  70. Sorry not trolling.

    ReplyDelete
  71. "and yes if you take even one sip you are an alcoholic" - "it would be lovely if everyone could make the right decision on their
own... but when they can't it needs to be enforced for them."- parallax1978
That is trolling. Your first statement is scientifically inaccurate, your second statement is so blatantly stupid, it goes up and above trolling. As I said, you made your point, move on.

    ReplyDelete
  72. No it isn't... I'm sorry you disagree, but I should not have to "move on" when people keep responding... I like how it is ok for you to call something I say "blatantly stupid", but I can't express a valid opinion just because it is a minority one that you happen to disagree with... if I had "made my point" I wouldn't have people taking opposing sides.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I've given up on torrents and moved to direct downloads. Just have to find a good host and a site that provides the links and you are good to go. A lot faster and you don't have to worry about ratios.

    ReplyDelete
  74. People are responding because that is the core definition of trolling. You may think your censoring opinions are valid and normal, but they are not, they are fringe opinions and scientifically inaccurate (like the one sip comment you did choose to ignore), so, for everyones sanity, let's move on.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Yeah, those are awesome. I've been using the site I frequent for so long now, that my ratio is not even an issue anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  76. This is a conversation I am having with people and will continue to have with people who are willing to engage in it... that is not trolling that is debate. When the debate has ended I will "move on"

Oh and telling me to move on because I have a "fringe" opinion is just as much censorship as you are complaining about me supporting.

    ReplyDelete
  77. You are not having a conversation or a discussion. You simply are throwing out opinions as fact which are scientifically inaccurate. You want to have a discussion without such ludicrous statements as censoring pop culture and scientifically erroneous sentences like "one sip makes you an alcoholic" or alcohol is "a form of poison", fine, let's have it. Otherwise, it is my job as MOD to stop trolling. There's some irony there, but it is what it is.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Yeah, it's weird.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Hey, Doing - the Clown - aka Matt Bourne just passed away.

Can you open a thread? I'm sure there's plenty of folks who'd like to discuss it.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Whatever. I get it. Agree with the masses or get called a troll and banned. I apologize. I'll fall in line now.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I can see that you are unable to have an actual discussion, you'd simply rather throw out opinions. Fair enough. For the record, you'd have to be really egregious to be banned. You are nowhere near that kind of line, let's not be ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Doing The Clown? Any relation to Doink?

    ReplyDelete
  83. Doink, fixed after I typed my reply to you.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Even if Chris Benoit saved 37 kids from a burning building, Vince is changing his son's name to something generic.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Whatever you say boss

    ReplyDelete
  86. You would have saved so much time today if you just cut this parallax dildo off at the knees and deleted his shit. What's the fun of having power if you don't abuse it?

    ReplyDelete
  87. heh, I really try to reason things out whenever possible even if someone is blatantly trolling under the guise of "a valid opinion".

    ReplyDelete
  88. Sounds like a circus based reality program on TLC.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Wouldn't be surprised if TNA jumped on the bandwagon to get some publicity in signing David Benoit (if he chose to be a wrestler), it would certainly get a lot of people tuning in out of curiosity. Can't see WWE going anywhere near it though, fortunately I doubt such an awkward scenario will ever arise.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Step 1. Download and install Linux, Transmission and VLC.
Step 2. Go to Pirate Bay.
    Step 3. Download Movies! Yay!

    ReplyDelete
  91. I wonder if Amazon have any issues with that book. I've reported it so I guess we'll find out.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Trolling = disagreeing with the powers that be... but let me make sure I don't step out of line again.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Never watch WWE again, and make sure they never get another dollar of my money. If it would mean walking away from wrestling forever, so be it.

    Roughly that horrifying.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryJune 28, 2013 at 3:56 PM

    1. Download BitTorrent.

    2. Search for "(name of PPV or whatever else you want to download) torrent" on Google.

    3. Go to the website and click on "download torrent".

    4. When it's done downloading click "open", when it asks you what program you want to open it with select BitTorrent (once you do this once it will no longer ask you what program you want to open it with, it will just do it automatically).

    5. Go find something to do for a couple hours, PPVs are usually 2-3 GB, so it's going to take a while.

    That's pretty much it.

    ReplyDelete

Yeah, that worked out real well the last time it was tried...

    ReplyDelete
  97. That would be awful, disgusting, horrifying, offensive, downright despicable must-see TV

    ReplyDelete
  98. Sorry, I take that back. Horrible comment. Sorry God.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I doubt his kid is even allowed to life weights.

    ReplyDelete
  100. You've accused other posters of trolling, have you not? It's funny that you can't see it when you're the one doing it...

    ReplyDelete
  101. Man, this thread is depressing.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Just to get this straight, someone offers me a beer, I drink a sip and go eww that's gross, take it back, and now I'm an alcoholic? Wow. I might have to check with my doctor first.

    ReplyDelete
  103. The valet obviously needs to be Natalya.

    ReplyDelete
  104. It would be hilarious *and* horrifying.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Also if you don't like things that "impair judgement, cause physical damage, and harm those around (the user)" why are you (presumably) a fan of and named after Parallax?

    ReplyDelete
  106. If I was doing it, I would see it.

    ReplyDelete
  107. You have the "evade the question" technique down pat. You may be better at it than Dougie.

    ReplyDelete
  108. The question? Ok you are right I didn't answer the question here. Yes I have pointed it out when others are trolling. Satisfied? And man do I really bother you this much? Or is it that important to you to have the last word? I already bowed to your greatness and moved on... but you were still talking about me... which I admittedly found annoying and had to respond to... would that mean you successfully trolled me?

    ReplyDelete
  109. Actually, I wasn't talking about you, but more responding to Ryan's comment and question to me about you. No, you don't bother me. I've never had a problem with you, nor will I have a problem with you in the future. I don't hold grudges. So, if you're dying to get the last word, have at it. I won't respond if that's what'll make you happy.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Why thank you good Sir.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Yeah, well, I will *personally* walk you through downloading torrents on Gchat, for only 2.99.

    ReplyDelete
  112. And that's Canadian dollars, folks.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryJune 28, 2013 at 6:55 PM

    Anytime, I work pro bono.

    ReplyDelete
  114. I think *David Benoit* would be changing his name to something generic if he had any sense and wanted to get into the wrestling business.

    ReplyDelete
  115. So let me get this straight. You want pirates, who inherently don't want to pay for anything, to buy your book about how to pirate?

    ReplyDelete
  116. Tell me where to send my $3.99!

    ReplyDelete
  117. Do not listen to this man! Clearly he is...dammit, I want your money! He didn't even make a neat cover!

    ReplyDelete
  118. Yup. And I want them to pay almost $4 for it too.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Honestly, it's not that simple. There are so many shitty torrent websites out there with misleading links, spyware, malware, and all sorts of junk.

If a person doesn't know about seeds & leeches, they could download a torrent with zero of'em, and it would just sit there. Not to mention they wouldn't know if the file is fake or not.

Also, what if the movie they download requires a certain codec and they don't have the right video player? What if they don't want to watch it on their computer?

    ReplyDelete
  120. Damn you. You're like the old man who was giving away dropping his pants & singing while Krusty was trying to earn a buck.

    ReplyDelete
  121. comic books aren't based on real life events.

    Alcohol is.

    im just sayin'

    ReplyDelete
  122. Okay... Ive been out and about for a couple and just checking in and let me get this straight.

You are trying to market an ebook on how to download torrents... to people... who more than likely... know how to download torrents already?

    for 4 bucks (roughly)

When is the Man Movie Encyclopedia Vol 2 coming out? At least thats enjoyable. I will definitely buy that.

Your other book... I can't see you getting a return on it. Not like that. I mean, the internet can teach you this shit.

Sure you might fuck your computer up a couple of times (as I have over the years) but why buy something that can learned for free?

I appreciate the hustle, I don't appreciate the marketing strategy.

    But you know what?

I'm going to help you out. Because I like authors trying to make it. Drop it to .99 and you got yourself a deal.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Now I'm TOTALLY confused.

Someone oughta write a book on this stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  124. I had to delete this comment, and I know we're treading on weird ground since torrenting is the subject of discussion here, but I have to remind EVERYONE that Blogger does not fuck around with this shit and giving specific instructions on how to torrent is not allowed. Sorry guys, comes from above.
