  1. While it could have been the greatest thing ever, I'm glad Shawn never jumped ship to WCW because I can only imagine him being treated the same way that Bret was treated in WCW. Shawn learned the hard way in 2005 that you can't out-politic Hulk Hogan.

  2. With Nash and Hall's backing, I'm sure Shawn would have been fine. I'd argue that Shawn came out of that 2005 feud better than Hulk, what with his brief heel turn, ridiculous selling and mockery of Hogan during the match and the night after it. If anything, I'd say Hulk got out-politicked by HBK.

  3. Yeah, I was going to say. Shawn would have been right as rain in WCW with Nash and Hall there.

The political war would have been more interesting that what was on television. Hogan and the Clique struggle for power, Bret Hart can't decide which one he hates more, DDP can't figure out which camp to whore his wife out to, Goldberg can't figure out anything....

    ReplyDelete
  5. Shawn leaving to WCW in 1996 probably also means that Hart remains in WWF and the Screwjob doesn't need to happen. The "Attitude" era probably takes a different form, as the WWF still gets a harder edge thanks to Austin, but it overall takes on a more NWA-badass vibe rather than the more juvenile-DX stuff. Bret has no problem with NWA-style hard-edged wrestling --- hell, he was the one who started the foul language after the Sid cage match in the first place.

  7. While I understand the appeal of putting the HoF down in Florida, I'd have really loved it if they put it up in Greenwich at the HQ.

A restaurant would be cool if done the right way.
The last restaurant had such a stupidly boring menu. There were barely any themed items to order. I used to go there for the PPVs because why not, but I wanted to get signature drinks and Smackdown burgers with JR's BBQ sauce and a side of Quebeccer fries or some nonsense.
I mean. Magic Hat sells a beer where they allow the restaurant to call it whatever they want. You're telling me that nobody thought, "Hey. How about we sell that and we'll call it Steveweiser."?

  8. The WWE HoF should be in New York. Might as well put it in Minneapolis.

  9. While Shawn would have been slightly better of than Bret, he still would have suffered from Hogan's politics. While Nash and Hall had a certain amount of power in WCW, it was nothing compared to Hogan's.

Hell Nash couldn't even save his friend Sean Waltman's job when Bischoff fired him and Hall couldn't save his own job when WCW finally had enough of his antics.

And Nash pretty much got out-politiced by Hogan in 1999 when he did the whole fingerpoke of doom deal, giving the belt to Hogan showing where the true power really lies and Hogan retired Nash halfway through 1999 too.

  10. Once the City runs Madison Square Garden out of its current location in 10 years, they can move over top the revamped Penn Station. The WWE Hall of Fame sitting atop the ruins of the building where they were made famous.

  11. Interesting theory. I tend to agree. Austin gets the belt either way. DX is not a thing. But even more crazy is the possibility that HHH would leave for WCW before dating Stephanie.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Which means that she starts dating Kurt Angle when he comes in?

    ReplyDelete
  13. I figure they don't want their homebase crawling with fans. A WWE restaurant could be so freakin cool if done right. The Steveweiser idea is genius, but PG WWE probably would have none of it. Still, plenty of themed dishes:

Junk Yard Dog - Footlong with everything.

Big Red Machine - Giant BBQ sandwich

    I got nothin' else...

  14. Kurt was married.

  15. Nobody has mentioned that the restaurant would be a stone's throw away from the Impact Zone.

  16. Insert *it'd still draw more than TNA gag here*

Oh no, wait. I'm not on Wrestlezone comments. God that shit drives me insane.

  17. You're kinda missing something important: Russo wouldn't know how to book something as awesome as that. I'm kinda shocked they never gave the book to Bret, just because he had so many awesome ideas for his character, I would have loved to have seen him book other wrestlers. Bret seems like the perfect guy that could take NWA style wrestling and update it with the times.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Well it would be true because TNA didn't draw anything at the Impact Zone... it was free admission!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I think with Universal's help, they would do the restaurant properly this time. The theming they've done in the Simpsons and Harry Potter areas is just incredible... and I think it's a good location because it's in a top tourist destination so there will always be fans to see it for the first time... and fans from all over the country will take a couple hours out of their day to check it out. I think it would be a great move (full disclosure: Universal is about 45 minutes from my house, so I'm a bit bias I'm sure).

A Wild Samoan - A burger with pineapple.

I mean. you could come up with a name for like every item on the menu over the weekend. (I really like that Junk Yard Dog btw.)

  27. Nobody is gonna out-politic HBK as long as Vince is around

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'll be cursed to repeat this on smark boards until the end of time but TNA made money from the Impact Zone because Universal paid them to be there.

    ReplyDelete
  29. With a restaurant at CityWalk, I'm guessing they put the HoF building on International Drive nearby. That's where all the non-Disney or Universal owned theme places tended to coagulate.

  30. The Nikolai Stroganoff- A heaping' helping of beef stroganoff.

The Jobber- Sloppy joe served on wonder bread

Arriba Fajitas- that one is self explanatory

  31. You're right that Vince always protected Shawn and took his side in most cases, which is why Shawn would've been a fish out of water in WCW because Bischoff/Hogan had the same type of relationship that of Vince/Shawn.

  32. WWE just opened their Performance Center at Full Sail today in Orlando. It makes sense because they really trying to expand their PG-friendly entertainment brand and what's more PG than Disney World, Sea World, Universal, etc. etc.

Orlando has also embraced the WWE. They really went overboard in their desire to have Wrestlemania XXIV and gave Vince a lot of financial assistance when it came to the makeover of the stadium for that event. They will likely have another Wrestlemania in the next 5-10 years.

    ReplyDelete
  33. In a scenario where Shawn left WWF and Bret stayed, I imagine Bret starts to get some booking responsibilities as time goes on.

    ReplyDelete
  34. From the latest WON, sounds like it will be WrestleMania 31 or 32 in O-Town. The new 49ers stadium in San Jose is also a frontrunner for one of those two events as well... along with Toronto and another northeast city.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Don't forget Texas Stadium, which you have to figure will get a Mania within the next five years at least, now that their obligations to the March Madness event in the spring.

The 49ers' stadium is hosting the Super Bowl in 2016 (same year as WM32), so I'd guess that WWE aims to beat the NFL the punch by hosting WM31 in Santa Clara. If they can't get in for WM31, then Santa Clara gets WM33 and you'll probably see Orlando get WM31 and Toronto or the other northern city choice get WM32.

  36. I like this. WWF New York had sub-par food, but it was one hell of a place to watch a PPV. I went there to watch Wrestlemania X-7 in 2001, and it still ranks as one of my top five wrestling experiences. So bringing it back in Florida AND giving the HOF a physical home? Hell yes.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Don't be so sure that's going to happen. With the billion $ that Dolan jut invested into the building, I'm not sure the city is going to want to fork over the amount of money it's going to take to convince Dolan to move and to re-do Penn Station.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Wasn't part of the plan that when Bret retired from in-ring competition and moved into his front office role, he'd have a hand in the booking?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Didn't stop Jarrett.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I agree with you Pete, but there's one snag.. Dolan spent all that money, but Barclay's Center is siphoning off a LOT of MSG's business. WIth the WWE, NBA, and other top performers choosing Barclay's over MGS more and more, it has to hurt his bottom line. Dolan luckily has a lot more income streams than the arena, but their monopoly over large NYC indoor events is over.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Oh the monopoly is over, and that's a good thing. If I had to guess, Barclay's is taking some business away because it's probably easier to schedule with their only being 1 pro team that plays there, plus MSG is still the crowd jewel for many music artists. Another thing is that from what I understand, the rent at MSG is astronomically high and it's one of the reasons why WWE doesn't run the Garden as often anymore. Maybe competition from the Barclay's will force the Garden to lower its fee and thus lower the ticket prices when WWE does run shows at MSG.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I remember reading that Orlando was willing to give WWE tax breaks and great deals on land and zoning issues to build a HOF there, on the condition they got a Mania every few years...

    ReplyDelete
  44. From what I heard (I work with a few artists) besides the obvious Jay-Z friendship factor, artists are going to Barclays for a few reasons. They can charge more per ticket (newer venue, VIP lounges, newer high-income local market), they can book more dates than at MSG, and like you said, Barclay's is cheaper. I don't think MSG cares so much about artists like Rihanna, but to have the WWE run shows there and also have the NBA draft there is a bit of a slap in the face. MSG will always have the allure of being the mecca, but there are a ton of arenas nationwide that had that same allure and are now sitting in the bottom of a landfill somewhere.

Quite frankly.. having worked at Cablevision (Dolan's company) a few years ago, I have no sympathy for him and I almost hope he does get run out of the business.. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  45. Ok ok...my point is I don't think Vince would have allowed a relationship with Steph and a married man.
