Adam Page and Silas Young Compete to Become the Thirteenth Entrant in the Title Tournament.
http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/entrant-number-13
A youshoot interview with Mahoney? This I will watch.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they will give Silas Young a bit of a run in the tourny. I think he has some potential. He's a really good heel. Giving him a win over Kendrick or Sonjay would help him get some legitimacy.
ReplyDeleteI was hoping for Hightower, personally.
ReplyDelete-I would have loved to see what WWE's production team could have done with that Vader debut.
ReplyDelete-Some of these are just stupid. KHALI?? And it wasn't Goldberg's debut that was a big deal, it was the build of the streak.
-That Sabu debut is great. Very underrated. Watched it a million times during the tape trading days.
-Taker's was one of the few mystery partner angles that paid off.
-BS to #1 though since it mucked up a ****** match.
The first one that came to mind was Big Show. Everyone knew he had left WCW, but him ripping his way up through the ring was still surprising and awesome. I was shocked to see it so low.
ReplyDeleteNumber 1 didn't ruin anything.
ReplyDeleteAdam Page just signed a contract with ROH, Young has no such contract, I'm almost certain Page is going over
ReplyDeleteAnd we all know that ROH would never let someone without a contract do anything worthwhile in the company.
ReplyDeleteDidn't Young sign a contract a couple months ago? He's listed on the roster page on the ROH website. Either way I'm with you on Adam going over, which always makes me smile for obvious reasons. I doubt he makes it out of the first round though.
ReplyDeleteI noticed that Richards and Edwards aren't in it. Guess they're not resigning. Can't say I really blame them, there's nothing left to accomplish for them in ROH.
No kidding. Even if Kane flamed out after a couple months that match was so good that the ending didn't matter. And it introduced a character that's still around 15 years later. I think we can give it a pass for that alone.
ReplyDelete"Hey Balls, got any ice?"
ReplyDeletePoor Kurt. Billy was the best Baldwin he could afford.
ReplyDeleteYou mean by plausibly finding a way for a bloodied-up Shawn to defeat the Undertaker?
ReplyDeleteThat would be stupid. And shortsighted. And if they were to do such a thing, surely it wouldn't happen two-times in as many years.
ReplyDeleteI thought they kinda ruined that debut immediately by making him a putz who cost McMahon the match by tossing Austin through the cage. He's on the job 2 minutes and he already screwed up.
ReplyDeleteNah. That's on Vince. If he hadn't been such a cheapskate and skimped on his cage budget, it wouldn't have broken and he could have won. If you buy a cheap cage, it's gonna fall apart when a dude gets hurled at it. That's Evil Wrestling Business Owner 101.
ReplyDeleteI remember watching Survivor Series 90 on PPV back in the day. I always thought the mystery man was going to be someone from the NWA or a returning wrestler. I found it to be disappointing at the time, but it was memorable.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Big Show debuting, how did they not put him and Taker in a match at WM? It would have fit the storyline way better. That would have been a legit big time match and 1B to Austin/Rock's 1A.
ReplyDeleteDid he? I thought he was just a jobber working on a date by date basis
ReplyDeleteI'm still not convinced the situation with Jay isn't a work for a big champion vs interim champion match at Final Battle
ReplyDeleteHe's still a Baldwin, dammit.
ReplyDeleteHow are they leaving off the most epic debut of all, the fan run in? Blackman, Vega, Big Josh...it was mind-blowing how all these guys set the precedent that it's okay to jump the railing and help out your wresting buddy. I'm surprised more fans didn't follow in their footsteps.
ReplyDeleteWhile Vader's WCW debut was cool, I'm surprised that Vader's WWF debut wasn't on the list. Debuting in the Royal Rumble and wreaking havoc (especially clearing the ring after being eliminated) was pretty strong.
ReplyDeleteIt's obvious why they wouldn't put it on the list, but the Radicalz debut is one of my all-time favorites. You had the friggin' WCW champion and his friends sitting right in the front row!!
ReplyDeleteOn that note: Having Ric Flair come out on WWF TV with the muthafuckin' Big Gold Belt was crazy as well. Probably the biggest thing to happen in the pre-internet days.
I'd also add these debuts to the list:
Kurt Angle swerving the crowd that thought he was going to be a face.
Scott Steiner's 2nd debut in the WWE (MSG)
Luger showing up at the first Nitro set the tone for the entire Monday Night Wars
X-Pac's DX debut (game changer)
Kharma's WWE debut (crowd was really into it until it went downhill from there)
LOD debuting in the WWF was pretty awesome as well now that i think about it. Watching my favorite tag team walk down a WWF aisle still gives me goosebumps - http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xcmfwx_legion-of-doom-wwf-debut-sapphire-p_sport#.UeFgE42siSo
ReplyDeleteThe Nexus thing was so different, and I thought would be a game changer. Still weird to see "Skip Sheffield" and a clean-shaven Daniel Bryan.
ReplyDeleteThought it was interesting that Abdullah the Butcher was called a "future WWE Hall of Famer" on his entry.
If they were in the tourney they would have been announced by now. One other thing: If QT Marshall is #16 I'm going to drive down to Baltimore or wherever and punch Cary Silkin and Delirious in the face. You know I don't give a fuck, I'll go to Rikers for 3 or 4 years just to prove a point, I don't play that shit.
ReplyDelete(0:57 in this clip, for those who don't get the joke in the last sentence above: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zaunAZW7zOI )
Thing is, this matchup was on ROHTV last week with Page going over (despite Young promoing pre-match). Would they really be dumb enough to joBWAHAHAHAHAHAHA nevermind we're talking about Ring of Put Belts On Uncontracted Guys, of course they're that dumb.
ReplyDeleteAnd we really don't need any more nondescript white guys in this tourney, the Wolves and the Dragons can find something else to do.
Here's a left-field idea: RD Evans in the tourney.
I miss Chappelle's Show.
ReplyDelete"Here's a left-field idea: RD Evans in the tourney."
ReplyDeleteI like it.
You'd like anyone who isn't God's Punishment to be in the tourney.
ReplyDeleteFuckin right!
ReplyDeleteI loved how they didn't want any of their own guys to look too bad, so they had Eddie Gilbert come in from the USWA to get the living shit kicked out of him by Vader for a few solid minutes to put over the Monster Heel. That literally looks to be Gilbert's only purpose in that match.
