Backstage Heat on Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins?

On this morning's "Wrestling Observer Live" radio broadcast, Dave Meltzer reported that he has heard conflicting reports from several different sources that these two have heat on them backstage. There has been no specific report as to what they did to have this happen.

Christian possibly has a concussion from Money in the Bank?

According to Mike Johnson, Christian suffered chipped teeth last night after being punched by Sheamus and there is some concern that he might have a concussion due to the fact he got hit so hard.

  1. -Obvious that Punk gets attacked by Lesnar when confronting Heyman.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Wouldn't mind Batista returning in a role along the lines of being a mercenary. He's achieved everything he needs to, whoever is the highest bidder will get him as an insurance policy at ringside. As a re-introduction to WWE, they can do a winning streak angle where every match Batista has been ringside at, his client has won, driving his price higher and higher.

I'm not sold on the idea of their being heat on the Shield backstage. No one can report exactly what happened yet, they can only assume from what they see on TV. They had their debut mega-push, WWE booking says they meander in the mid-card until needed again. Same thing will happen to Wyatt family. WWE wants these rookies to be a big deal when they're needed to be, but the value of their current main eventers declines if rookies are coming up from NXT and dominating for an extended period of time.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Goody, looks like The Shield is done then.

    ReplyDelete
  4. That Meltzer Shield stuff reeks of bullshit. He has no actual facts, and everyone just assumes its true.

If Christian's hurt again he needs to hang it up. It feels like he's been hurt since the Orton feud ended two years ago.

I would have marked the everloving fuck out if after Axel's interference Lesnar had just strolled out, climbed the ladder, plucked down the briefcase and strolled off. Sure he wasn't in the match, but are YOU gonna try to take it away from Brock Fuckin' Lesnar? The heat would be unreal for every champion in trouble, knowing Scary Ass Brock Lesnar with his briefcase could pop up at any moment.
(Please forget about the losses to Cena and HHH for this scenario)

    ReplyDelete
  7. Woo! Brock Lesnar tonight at Raw! Glad I got my tickets!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Supposedly some of it is based on a tweet from crankyvince so that seems really dubious since thats a parody account

  9. Your_Favourite_AssholeJuly 15, 2013 at 11:14 AM

'One thing HHH is smart about. He's willing to bring someone in for limited contracts'

except that sometimes we get things like rock as a less-than-part-time champ

    ReplyDelete
  10. I would be SHOCKED if Batista's in before Guardians of the Galaxy finishes filming. If they can finish filming by January though, a Rumble-Mania run would make a lot of sense, gets him out of the way to promote Guardians elsewhere leading up to it's August '14 release.

...I hope they don't try to pull Rock-style stuff though, sign him for whatever length but he has to be in arena every appearance.

    ReplyDelete
  11. He's not close to as big a star as the Rock, so I wouldn't worry. Hell, he's not really close to as big a star as Cena.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I just pray we get heel Batista and not face Batista.

    ReplyDelete
  13. How does Sheamus not have a concussion after that botched ladder bulldog? It smacked him right in the back of his head.

    ReplyDelete
  14. He's in a Marvel film, he's a bigger star than Cena.

    ReplyDelete
  15. To be fair, he never confirmed or denied anything. He just stated that he has heard conflicting reports from people in the company.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'd have marked out if Brock crumpled the briefcase into a ball, threw the ball at Punk's head, then walked out the arena leaving the MITB combatants to play 'kick the ball.'

    ReplyDelete
  17. Batista absolutely HAS to come back as his smug Hollywood heel character. I get the feeling they won't go that route because they don't want to scare people off of the movie but in wrestling it'd be perfect.

    ReplyDelete
  18. He still reported it. Why not wait until you can confirm or deny?

    ReplyDelete
  19. 1. If we're starting the build to Punk vs. Brock at SummerSlam, then 'fuck yes'.
    2. Batista coming back in a Hollywood Dave persona, building toward a Brock Lesnar Wrestlemania 30 match would be the sweet glorious tits.
    3. Sucks for the Shield, but Ambrose has the real promise of the group anyway, so I hope he still gets a chance to reach the main event.
    4. Christian should hang it up soon, like his buddy Edge, before injuries have any more long-term effects than necessary.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Someone asked a question and he answered it. He didn't say anything over than he heard conflicting reports. Remember, this is a rumor that has been going on for a few days. I really don't get why you are pissed off over this

    ReplyDelete
  21. Batista is about to start shooting a major Marvel movie. He ain't coming back anytime soon.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Could be a good candidate for another "Heyman Guy". Brock and Dave destroying everything in sight, en route to an inevitable split and 'monster vs. monster' Wrestlemania match gets my vote

    ReplyDelete
  23. As a one-off, that was worth it since it got plenty of buys. I don't like HOW they did it, but I can at least understand why they did it

    ReplyDelete
  24. I don't recall saying I was pissed off about anything. I do get annoyed that Meltzer reports incorrect things constantly, but yet people take his word as the gospel.

    ReplyDelete
  25. First I had heard about it was when former WWE writer Court Bauer mentioned on his Bauer+Pollock podcast that was recorded late last week before the story had broke elsewhere. He claimed to have heard it from some of his friends who still work in creative.

    ReplyDelete
  26. How did he incorrectly report the story?

    ReplyDelete
  27. On this story he hasn't, although with no facts and no confirmations he really had no story to report to begin with.

What happened to Daniel Bryan vs. John Cena at MitB? Didn't he report that?

    ReplyDelete
  28. No chance. He'll come back smiling and going for the first big heel knocking about, unfortunately.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Kind of ironic as you seem to be very quick to jump the gun.

I actually listened to it and he didn't say any of this. All was said was (paraphrasing):

Bryan asked Dave about it, and Dave said he'd heard the same from numerous inside sources, and has heard many shoot down the rumours, too.

That was literally it. He didn't put his own spin on it or anything. That's just how it was.

    ReplyDelete
  30. He reckons it's a lock on for Summerslam.

    ReplyDelete
  31. If you don't think he incorrectly reported this story, then why use this as a platform to say he incorrectly reports a lot of things?
Don't get me wrong, I do not take everything he says as gospel and he isn't always right, his proclamation that Bob Sapp was going to become a huge international star was the low point for him, but he was addressing the question that Alvarez asked him and gave his answer. I'm sure he will probably write about it at some point.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Except that The Shield jobbed to The Usos after beating just about every main event-er in the company. Meltzer may not be right, but the writing is on the wall. They're being de-pushed.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yeah, you don't go from beating main eventers to trading wins with mid-carders without something happening.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Your_Favourite_AssholeJuly 15, 2013 at 12:40 PM

    50/50 booking ftw

    ReplyDelete
  35. I just look at that as them wanting to convince people that the Usos had at least a 1 percent chance in hell of winning. Shield dominated the feud outside of that one loss.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Brock and Batista would be a hell of an intimidating tag team.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hell, a Marvel film is bigger than anything Rock's done.

    ReplyDelete
  38. You can live in fantasy land and see it that way, but the group has been depushed. In fact, the tag champs didn't even get to defend the titles last night, they were bumped.

It's ok, they had a good run and they'll be back as singles stars, but The Shield as we knew it, is done.

    ReplyDelete
  39. You don't get to be a bigger star by proxy. Show the average person on the street a picture of Cena and one of Batista and the majority will recognize Cena over him. Down the road? Who knows.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Bro-tista is my jam.

I'd love to have that guy back, as long as they don't Sheamus him by having him smile all the time instead of devouring worlds and punching fat girls.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Well, some other site (I want to say PWInsider, but I'm not sure. Might have been one of those copy-paste sites) reported that one of the Shield members has heat with Vince for how he conducts himself backstage, as the person in question reportedly had the gall to forget to shake Vince's hand at one point. I mean, if that's true...

I worked part-time as a tutor in a high school for a few years, and I swear, when those kids actually beefed, it was about some real shit. Comparing backstage WWE to a "high school" is an insult to our secondary education system.

    ReplyDelete
  42. They defended on the pre-show as scheduled, what are you talking about?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Kanyista was the shit. I don't care if he's down to 180lbs. Just give that man a microphone, a pair of Oakleys and some bling, leave out the script, and let him get salty. Hell, let him get downright Ironborn if he wants.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I don't watch the pre-game show. Next you'll be telling me they defended them on NXT or something.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Shocked you missed a chance to catch some tag team wrestling that you love.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I'd have marked out if he finished his run-in without jobbing to anyone :(

    ReplyDelete
  47. The Rock's been the most promoted star in several major blockbusters. I will bet anything that Batista barely gets mentioned in the trailers. If at all.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Sheamus fought on the pre-show last month and he's an established main eventer.

    ReplyDelete

bowchickawowwow-tista has shot down the rumors

    ReplyDelete
  51. The match was set for MITB and they changed it. It's not Meltzer's fault that WWE changes booking plans all the time

    ReplyDelete
  52. I think they're rush shooting that one, since whatshisass that plays Andy on Parks & Rec hasn't announced whether he'll be part-timing on the show this year.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Meltzer is GOD.

    ReplyDelete
  54. To be honest, my signal was down until 840 or so which pissed me off. However, the titles defended on the pre-game show is a demotion. Tell me when Bryan and Kane did that?

    ReplyDelete
  55. No one mentioning Punk's twitter photos from last night? Yikes.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Those are sick!

    ReplyDelete
  57. And we were mostly shocked that Sheamus was wrestling there as he has been languishing for a while now. Kind of makes my point.

    ReplyDelete
  58. That's just...not true. Rock was in two Fast & Furious movies, plus all his other franchises. That puts it above the level of at least some Marvel movies. And GotG isn't really an A-level title.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Anti-Meltzer gimmicks get old fast.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I wouldn't say I am anti Meltzer, just take him with a grain of salt.

    ReplyDelete
  61. He is the preeminent wrestling journalist for a reason, especially when you consider he has to cover something like WWE where plans change all the time.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Plus I'm not an aficionado on Marvel but from the sounds of it GotG is gonna be mostly green screen, and those can be shot really quickly. I imagine they're gonna be light on practical photography on that one.

    ReplyDelete
  63. MITB always has less matches. Plus, comparing two guys in their first year on the main roster to Kane/Bryan is pretty moronic.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Summerslam build should start tonight. Wonder what the top bouts will be?

    ReplyDelete
  65. Yup. Marvel could take a dump and it would make $500 million.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Who gives a shit that it's their first year? They were wrestling main
events and beating main eventers consistently. Fuck, they got to
wrestle Undertaker, how many people can say that now a days? That makes
    me moronic why?

Regardless, I'll state my point again, they're
being depushed. Maybe it's because it's their first year, maybe
because they didn't suck Vince's dick the right way. Whatever the
    reason, it's fact.

    ReplyDelete
  67. You mean Burt Macklin, FBI.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I dunno....those Fast and Furious movies do HUGE business...

    ReplyDelete
  69. My god, the WON website has the new WWE video game commercial and it has the Ultimate Warrior in it...and it's actually pretty entertaining!

    Destrucity!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Has Cena ever walked through a pit of danger?

    ReplyDelete
  71. Pratt and Plaza starring in a Burt Macklin show or movie would make my year. It's the best running bit on the show (too bad he turned in his badge this past season... 20 years on the force and he had never met his wife and kids, so sad)

    ReplyDelete
  72. Christian should start considering retirement soon. I know he probably wants one more money angle, but I don't think it's in the cards due to injuries and the logjam of guys at the top. In my opinion, he really should be up for the a Booker T-like role of just an on screen character or announcer. Then again, you hear about people like Alex Riley being groomed in NXT for an announcing gig and you think, "What the fuck?"

Commissioner Christian would be a callback to Foley's days. The snarky heel Christian could also supplant Lawler (who knows what he's doing anymore or what his purpose really is) and modernize the announce team.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Thought he was dead? So did the president's...enemies.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Why Baymore, when you can Bayless?

    ReplyDelete
  75. What goes up must come down.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Davey Boy is DOG.

    ReplyDelete
  77. And RVD sloppily took a ladder out from under him, and the nasty bump. I think the other 5 guys had a pool on who could kill Sheamus first.

    ReplyDelete
  78. You might be onto something there man. Christian as GM

    ReplyDelete
  79. Batista laughs off the return to WWE rumors
    https://twitter.com/davebautista

    ReplyDelete
  80. No injury reports from Sheamus? The man has earnt my respect, asshole gimmick be damned, those spots he took last night were sick.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I am the discount shoe store of wrestling reviewers!

    ReplyDelete
  82. There's truth to that, unless....you're John Cena.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Brock vs Punk and Bryan vs Cena would damn near be my card of the year, especially if you actually let Ziggler and Del rio go at it for a good 20 minutes with a real finish this time.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Vince asked Brooke Shields on a date and she turned him down. Someone has to pay, might as well be Reigns, Ambrose, and Rollins.

    ReplyDelete
  85. That doesn't sound like Vince. Brooke Shields is way too old for him.

    ReplyDelete

  87. By the power vested in me by Princess slackatude, I hereby declare this the RAW live thread fr the cool people.

    ReplyDelete
  88. ....the Mad Ox seems like a carnival barker

    ReplyDelete
  89. Well, he just saw Blue Lagoon last week so...

    ReplyDelete
  90. Is this our only haven right now to make smark remarks?

"BOO CENA! I HATE HIM! NO WORKRATE!"

    ReplyDelete
  91. You were speaking of carnival barkers?

    ReplyDelete
  92. Pay for WHC match and get a DQ while everyone else gets it for free the next night.

Sure, no one bought MITB for the WHC match, but it's still an extravagantly shitty business model.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Brooklyn Brawler wrestles on Superstars this week!

    Don't miss it. BEEEEEEEE THERE!

    ReplyDelete
  94. Oh sweet, live thread is now up.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Fast 6 is far bigger than GotG is going to be.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Batista is also probably going to be in other Marvel movies too soon. They crossover a lot. GotG are rumored to be in Avengers 2 and that starts filming next year.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I never understood the argument behind "get it for free the next night" plenty of people in the attitude era would pay money for title matches and then get title changes for free the next night on RAW sometimes the same match. Look at the Rock vs. Mankind series, or how about paying to see Austin vs. Kane, Kane wins the world title and then on free TV the next night Austin faces Kane again and wins the title back. So why did you pay 60 bucks to see a title match when they would re do the match the next night with an opposite finish.

Sometimes a DQ or a B.S finish is part of the story and you're paying to see a good match and the story advanced. Not every ppv match is going to have a clean finish and sometimes as evidenced even during the attitude era you're going to see the same shit the next night.

Hell look no further than WM16 when you paid to see The Rock win the world title only to see Triple H retain the title thus forcing you to pay for ANOTHER pay per view just to see what you were hoping to see the pay per view before. Is that a bad business model to make people pay something expecting an outcome and then not given it and being forced to spend another 50 on the next months ppv just to get it?

Its like I don't get the annoyance of bait and switch matches with RAW. Again the Attitude Era would do this all the time. Hell didn't they do that at Survivor Series in the attitude era promising Austin when they knew weeks before hand he wasn't going anywhere near the ring?

I know its cliche to say "we're telling stories" but sometimes they are in fact telling stories and those stories are going to involve people that get it for free getting more enjoyment out of the product than those that paid for it. How many times have people spent money on a B.S ppv only to have an amazing, lights out, edge of your seat RAW a few weeks later.People paid money and were disappointed and then got something awesome for free this has happened in wrestling since well since the dawn of time. Its clearly been just fine for the business.
