  2. I'm all for Sting getting one last big payday and jobbing to the Undertaker at WrestleMania, but the price of getting offset any potential buys? Sting is 54 years old. What would the WWE do with him that would be worthwhile to anyone except Sting.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Now there's an angle they could run. Have Ricardo Rodriguez revealed as a weed carrier for Alberto Del Rio, Jack Swagger etc. Then when RVD shows up he can lead a stable of weed-smoking wrestlers who hit their finishing moves but forget to pin their opponents. So then someone draws the short straw and has to stop smoking weed in order to stay at ringside and remind the others they have to pin their opponents after hitting their finishers

    ReplyDelete
  4. I thought it was kind of weird that they gave Sting a video package. Might have been a goodwill gesture. I'm not sure it would be worth wasting one of 'Taker's final 'Mania matches on him at this point though. That's kind of a huge spot for a guy who's in the t-shirt phase of his career.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Send him to the accountability crib...

    ReplyDelete
  6. A WM payoff with Undertaker would cover the cost of the contract. I know guys who weren't following wrestling that closely that were legit excited about the rumors last year of Sting taking on Undertaker at WM.

Granted, the match will be overwhelmingly disappointing, given the build, but Sting in the WWE? That's money by itself.

Of course, Sting has been interested for years, but stayed in TNA. I would be shocked if this wasn't a ploy to get more favorable considerations out of Dixie and Co.

What's the audience for Sting these days? Are there TNA-only fans that would cross over? Are there any WCW fans left? Are there many WWE fans who've been around long enough to remember and care who Sting is?

    ReplyDelete
  8. About 15 years too late on that move Sting...

    ReplyDelete
  9. Sting is 54 years old, he is divorced and he lives in a van down by the river.

I think Sting's last match should be at a Wrestlemania - he deserves to go out at a big show like that. I really don't see much else for Sting to do in TNA. When the M.E.M angle ends, what next? Put the paint back on and challenge for the TNA title once Bully loses it? Then reunite the M.E.M? Back to Crow Sting? Or Joker Sting? He should take some time off, get in the best shape he can get in, and come in for a short term retirement angle in WWE.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I'm just wondering if it would generate that many buys in and of itself. It's the only thing I could think of to do with him, but WrestleMania sort screws with wrestler's v.o.r.p. numbers.
As a fan, I'm all for it in a big way. But I'm already buying that PPV.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Is he chauffeured by Toonces the driving cat?

    ReplyDelete
  13. I think it would get some good buys, at least initially.

It'll be like the whole Crow Sting angle - booked on mystique alone, it's awesome, but as soon as he gets in the ring, the mystique rubs off and you're like "Oh, it's just Sting".

    ReplyDelete
  14. I might've been excited for Sting in WWE about a decade ago, but now? Why? He's not someone really pay to see wrestle anymore. Besides, given that he was always competition for most of WWE's existence, do we really expect Vince to not hold a grudge and do something that only makes look Sting look bad in the end?

There's maybe - MAYBE - three marque matches that people might want to see: Triple H, Undertaker, and John Cena. And even then, I still don't see many people getting excited for it.

    ReplyDelete
  15. If they got Jeff back, I'd pay to see Sting go out and knock him out in ten seconds. I'd watch that every week and not get tired for like, three months.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Oh you'd absolutely have to have him in the rafters doing the Crow Sting.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Eh, they'd bring him in and he'd job to Cena in a month. Gotta make the Stinger pay his dues!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Sting has never seemed too eager to jump to WWE. Though I gotta say he was totally right not jumping during the InVasion. Just look at how DDP and Booker T fared.

Dammit Ricardo, they took you away, they took his cars away, they took his old music away, what does ADR have now!?

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'd say Booker T made out okay, all things considered. DDP ended up screwed and he admits he should've waited and come in later to do a feud with the Rock over who the true "people's champion" was.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yeah but the window for him feud with the Rock was very small and it likely would have been logistically impossible.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Perfect way to bring Evan Bourne back.

    ReplyDelete
  22. He's good friends with Massive Headwound Larry (Pfohl).

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think Sting would make an excellent authority figure with the occasional big match. Kind of like Flair in '01 and '02 while he was "co-owner" of the WWF. Vince could bring him in as his "muscle" against his son-in-law HHH for this "power struggle" that we're getting (whether we like it or not). This could lead to a Sting-HHH match at WrestleMania or Survivor Series or whenever it's time to blow that off. I think there's too much intrigue in a Cena-Taker or Lesnar-Taker match at WM 30 to brush those two aside for Sting.

    ReplyDelete
  24. For a given value of screwed. We don't know his opportunity cost. Did he lose money by signing with WWE?

    ReplyDelete
  25. I would not align Sting with Vince in any shape or form. Vince is a natural heel and is already taking a heel approach (siding against Bryan) in this feud (?) with HHH. Sting is a natural face and would not come into a promotion if there's a chance he'd be placed as a heel.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I imagine a career retrospective DVD would justify a large portion of any deal on its own.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Year 16 of his t-shirt phase.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Wait, MEM? It's back?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Scream09_HartKillerJuly 2, 2013 at 1:56 PM

I wonder how much his buyout was vs how much he was owed if he didn't accept it. He only got a year out of his WWE run but there were houseshows and pay per view payoffs he wouldn't have got if he were just sitting home.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Have Sting wrestle Taker at Mania, have him be an ambassador after that, put out a career retrospective DVD.

    ReplyDelete
  31. New YouTube sensation: the '10 hours of YES! chants, done by Bruce Prichard, live!'

    ReplyDelete
  32. "and he goes for the Stinger Splash... but it gets reversed into the AA!"

    "Cena wins, Cena wins!"

    ReplyDelete
  33. Sting should've gotten a huge pay bonus for handling that situation the way he did. And yes, I too would pay to see your scenario.

    ReplyDelete
  34. At this point I feel like it's too little too late with Sting. Now he just looks like an old guy in clown makeup, especially when he's wrestling in t-shirts.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Cole jacks off as Cena's bugle's play

    ReplyDelete
  36. NO MORE AUTHORITY FIGURES.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Sting isn't that horrible when he has time to prep and UT is still bringing it once a year. The crowd would also carry it a lot (see Hogan Vs Rock).

    ReplyDelete
  38. I kind of want Sting not to go just so there can be one guy Vince could never get.

But it actually would be good for TNA. Free up some cash and TV time for someone else.

Now if Vince can call Hogan back for one last run....

    ReplyDelete
  39. Sting vs. Ricardo Rodriguez in a Bumble Bee Suit match.

    ReplyDelete
  40. "Weed the People"

    ReplyDelete
  41. Not to be a downer, but I have no desire to see Sting in WWE. I'm not so sure I ever did. He's way past his prime and there is just no "dream match" to be had there. Sting vs. Cena? vs. Taker? vs. HHH? vs. Punk? None of those are compelling matches to me. And it's been SO long since Sting was a major player in WCW that I don't think there's even much of a rub to give to any young talent either. The only time I was interested in Sting going to WWE was for the invasion, but that's over a decade in the rear view and there's just no compelling reason for Sting (the character) to "invade" WWE all these years later. In kayfabe terms, I think there would have to be a compelling storyline reason for Sting to arrive NOW of all times and I just don't see what it would be or what there is to gain from it (other than if Steven can get a nice payday out of it)

    ReplyDelete
  42. I missed the days of not acknowledging guys' past.
I'd get a kick out of Cole calling Sting a rookie like Vince did with Harley Race.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Maybe years ago, but at this point there is zero story to tell there. Even the markiest mark would know Sting has no chance and I'm not sure the match would even be any good (unlike the HBK, HHH ones)

    ReplyDelete
  44. Exactly. The idea of Sting arriving years ago to challenge Taker had some value, but at this point there is zero chance (in reality or in story terms) that Sting competes with Taker. I don't think there's much chance of a great match there either, at this point

    ReplyDelete
  45. Would they though? I mean it's been 16 years since Sting had any true allure. Maybe there would be some nostalgia from the old WCW fans, but it's not like it would be Hulkamania returning to his old company to face The Rock at the height of his powers.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Agreed. There is no compelling story there, since no one would buy Sting as a threat. Maybe one token WWE appearance at Wrestlemania 30, just to say he "did" once, but I think part of Sting's legacy is that of "biggest star to never wrestle in WWF/E"

    ReplyDelete
  47. Sales of The Observer must really be down for Dave to dive down the Sting To WWE rabbit hole once more.

    ReplyDelete
  48. And of those WCW fans, how many of them remember when Sting was still relevant? He spent the last few years of WCW's existence as "just a guy" basically.

    ReplyDelete
  49. RESPECT HIS AUTHORITOR!

    ReplyDelete
  50. And therein lies an obvious problem. But you are right, you'd have to do it all the way, if Crow Sting is what they want

    ReplyDelete
  51. I still fail to see the intrigue in Taker-Lesnar, but that's just me

    ReplyDelete
  52. The only way this would be cool would be if Crow Sting came down from the rafters and attacked the Shield or something.

And we all know Vince ain't goin' for *that*.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Next Dave is gonna say Montreal was a work

    ReplyDelete
  54. His old music is still there, it's just obscured by the Ooga Chugga baby.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Sting arriving 12 years too late would look like drunk Will Ferrell in 'Old School'.....
"C'mon, guys....we're invading! We're taking over the WWF!" while Booker T just hangs his head at ringside and mutters under his breath.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Has a Diva ever had a Wellness violation?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Not with a typical crowd, but a Mania crowd is full of hardcores.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Meh, just give him his big WWE year long run and have him do a couple of dream matches then put someone over then have a retirement match and induct him into the hall of fame. No harm done.

    ReplyDelete
  59. If they had been around during the Chyna/Nicole Bass heyday.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Cole: "Cena's got Slater up, wait a minute...someone just ran in. Who is that? That's Borden Stevenson. Borden Stevenson from NXT is attacking Cena!!! This kid is trying to make an impact!"

    ReplyDelete
  61. Give me Taker/Sting at Mania and a Sting blu ray and I'd be happy. I know Taker/Sting would probably blow, but I'd pay to see it.

I'm not holding my breath, though. I feel like this rumor comes around once every two years and it's never amounted to anything.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I'll bet Steph would fail one for indirectly ingesting HGH.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Sting's big angle would have been the Invasion. When he didn't show up for that I dropped caring. In fact, I hope he DOESN'T go to the WWE so he can show the world you can be a successful wrestler and not go to the WWE.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I still think it's criminal that they didn't name her finisher The Bassomatic.

    ReplyDelete
  65. After that whole 2-21-11 bullshit, I'm kind of over the Sting to WWE thing.

So let me get this straight, DUIs and Pot don't get your suspended but Fat Burners from GNC do? I think the Wellness Policy has gone to a whole new level of stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  66. So, turns out the ratings dipped lower in the main event this week than they did last week.

In other words, Bryan = better ratings than Cena now.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Seriously though, I would imagine he would be attempting to get vengeance for WCW shutting down.....12 years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Ingesting HHH's HGH if ya know what I mean..

    ReplyDelete
  69. What the hell is up with Evan Bourne? Has WWE given up on the guy and just not wanting to bring him back?

    ReplyDelete
  70. Or Del Rio = a big pile of garbage They killed any heel heat he had by turning him face. I remember back in the 70's-early 90's that guys would turn heel or face they would get monumental reactions because it happened RARELY. It seems like guys turn face and heel and back and forth each month. If you stopped watching WWE today for six months then resumed, half of the roster would be the opposite of what they were when you stopped.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Sting vs Punk would be a nice little cute feud.

    ReplyDelete
  72. In pog form.

    ReplyDelete
  73. By the looks of Steph last night, she is directly injecting HGH. She looks like a different person.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Scream09_HartKillerJuly 2, 2013 at 7:21 PM

Somewhat. If nothing else a well tailored suit will slim Joe down a bit.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Scream09_HartKillerJuly 2, 2013 at 7:25 PM

Yeah, with the right amount of smoke and mirrors it could work. Require him to get into "out of the t-shirt" shape, menacing looking make up, have him hang out in the rafters, trench coat, bat, quick run in's...once he gets in the ring it'll be shit but by then the money's been spent.

    ReplyDelete
  76. He had no heat as a heel.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Me thinks Booker T did fairly well considering 12 years later he's still gainfully employed and in good standing.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I meant in the immediate period following the InVasion. I should have been more specific in that.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I wrote this in the last "Sting-in-WWE" thread, but the best scenario for Sting to finally come to WWE was in 2011 against Undertaker at WM27. It set up perfectly....on the 10-year anniversary of WCW closing down, its biggest star would try to avenge his company in Atlanta by facing WWF's longest-tenured star.

    ReplyDelete
  80. That main event was a good match, and adrs heel turn against ziggler was a really brilliant match. I think he has heat, and I think he worked as a face (initially) its just that the wwe can't or won't book faces well. Adr is one of the best guys in awhile. I almost wonder if the iwc hates mexicans. They trashed rey, shit on mistico before he had a chance and adr gets no love despite being great on the mic and very good in the ring, and can do it as a heel or face. (I'm joking but geez let's show adr some love)

    ReplyDelete
  81. I don't need to see Sting in some kind of a long term role, but I'd really love to see him get one big match and a great Blu Ray documenting his WCW career with him actually being interviewed for it. Although, as others pointed out, not sure who that "one big match" would be against, since the Undertaker/Sting ship may very well have sailed, and I'm not sure who else would make any sense.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I don't really know what he would do. Would he wrestle as part of the roster or just work one match? Would he just show up to go in the hof (which would be awesome and well deserved)? Would he get to go over people or just job?

Honestly what I'd like to see is him work with huntor. It would be a main event run, and hhh would make sure the fans knew stings history and understood who he was. Since I'm sure vkm will want to job him out anyway this is a best case scenario for him (I don't think they waste undertaker on him). And even though the match will suck its not like he's gonna have much better of one with anyone else. And hhh will definitely make sure it gets lots of time and will have table bumps, sledgehammers etc. And hhh can have a big win without us getting sick

    ReplyDelete
  83. He can give a hhh a nice ego rub and another name for the "I've beat em all jack" promo

    ReplyDelete
  84. I hated the Undertaker until probably around Wrestlemania 25 because of the bullshit with DDP. There were plenty of problems with the Invasion angle, but Undertaker refusing to sell for any WWE guy and actively burying the only guy who had actually won their title before mid 2000 so badly that they never even had a blowoff match is a big one. I had already had issues with him from Fully Loaded 2000, where Rock beat Benoit but made him look really strong, HHH beat Jericho but made him look really strong, and Undertaker crushed Angle like the jobbiest jobber ever.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Yeah, that could be decent.

    ReplyDelete
  86. His foot is still messed up. I think he is a few months away.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Best you could hope for from either guy so might as well put em together

    ReplyDelete
  88. I would be sick if Sting's first storyline and feud was simply to job to HHH.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Yea, this is why people don't want Sting in WWE. Awful.

    ReplyDelete
  90. I meant at the time he turned babyface, he had no heat and no angle. Basically, from Edge beating him at WM27 to his face turn against Big Show...nobody cared.

And I agree that ADR is one of the most talented guys on the roster. Probably my second or third favorite worker on the roster (depending on how Punk is performing). But I also think that he's been booked pretty horrendously.

I think ADR as the concussion causing world-beater works better than cowardly aristocrat. Not every heel needs to be badass, but ADR's entire offense and wrestling style needs to be taken seriously for him to work.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Dat's the joke...
