Chris Benoit "technically" in HOF

Hey Scott! First I'd like to say love your blog and your reviews from past wrestling shows. I think the reviews are honest and something a TRUE wrestling fan would say instead of saying the political correct answer. Now on to my question; The Four Horseman were inducted into the 2012 WWE Hall of Fame and it was the stable that was  inducted with Flair, Windham, Blanchard, Dillon and Anderson were representing? But my thing is that Benoit is in because it was the stable that was inducted not the 4 wrestlers that were on stage so he is in the Hall of Fame in my mind. I mean when Metallica was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame; it was the band that was inducted which means that Dave Mustaine is in the Hall of Fame as well by association. So WWE in my view shot themselves in the foot because even though his name is not in the Hall of Fame he's in because of the group and the same can be said for guys like Luger, Malenko, Pillman and the not so great members like McMichael, Roma and Sid. What are your thoughts about that? thanks my friend carry on

I'm not sure I agree with you a hundred percent on your police work, there, Lou.
They were pretty specific with inducting Flair/Windham/Arn/Tully/JJ that year.   Plus the Benoit era was a decade removed from the classic era.  And most convincing to me, no one gives a fuck about the WWE Hall of Fame anyway.

Comments

  1. That means Mongo is in the HOF.

Mongo is not in the HOF.

    Oh you betcha ya

    ReplyDelete
  3. You can take that argument to pretty absurd conclusions. If KISS Is inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame, does that include every member who had a cup of coffee with the band (read the family tree in the liner notes to Alive III - its pretty amazing).
What about Gary Cherone for Van Halen?
Re wrestling, I think there's more to it than just a name. If Doink was inducted, would that make every jobber who wore the mask a member?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Dave Mustaine was not inducted with Metallica, as he never played on a Metallica studio album. (he has a couple writing credits, but was long replaced before Kill Em' All was released) And the listing on the Rock Hall lists Metallica's entries as: Hetfield, Hammett, Ulrich, Burton, Newsted and Trujillo.

Mustaine, Bob Rock and Ron McGovney didn't get in with Metallica and Benoit, Mongo and Paul Roma didn't get in with the Horsemen.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Is Lacey von Erich in the HoF?

    How about Lance?

    ReplyDelete
  6. I sort of give a fuck about the WWE Hall of Fame.

    ReplyDelete
  7. What is wrong, mentally, with some fans who cannot accept that WWE doesn't want to publicize a good wrestler because he KILLED PEOPLE?!? I mean seriously, what's so hard to understand. He wasn't even all that over, and then he KILLED A WOMAN AND CHILD. You're never getting that 3 DVD set, just forget about it.

    ReplyDelete
  8. That's one more fucks than the WWE gives.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Chris Benoit is also a Time Person of the Year 2006

    ReplyDelete
  10. The Hof means nothing. Who cares who goes in. Also why can no separate a body of work from a personal life. what Benoit did is unforgivable yes but it has nothing to do with his career. Just as if you found out John Cena threw puppies in a incinerator. It shouldn't make a difference in his professional career.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Found out? I firmly believe that anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  12. So I guess the family of Mark St.John shouldn't hold their breath for his posthumous Kiss HOF honor?

Alive III doesn't get the love it deserves

    ReplyDelete
  13. Paul Roma you finally did it!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Mongo only pawn in Game of Life.

    ReplyDelete
  15. And send photos of your erect penis to young women shouldn't mean you don't get to be mayor of NYC and yet it probably will.

    ReplyDelete
  16. While I think the HoF is a nice outlet for a legend or two to give a nice speech and be appreciated by the fans, who actually gives a shit who's in it?

And also, Chris Beniot fucking murdered his family, I know he was a smark darling, but can we please just let him go.

    ReplyDelete
  17. By this logic, is Ole in?

    ReplyDelete
  18. This is the dumbest shit I have seen on here in a long time.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Mustaine was actually invited to the HOF but politely declined. He has more than a few writing credits and according to Dave they stole more than was given credit to him.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Mustain is talented, and I own several Megadeth albums, but the guy cannot lie straight in bed..

    ReplyDelete
  21. On the other hand, Dave is fairly nutty.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Most people have souls. Congrats on not having one?

    ReplyDelete
  23. I never really got the UTTER HATRED so many people have for the Hall of Fame. I mean, it's just your everyday "pat on the back", "give some old timers a day in the sun" type of thing. Sure, it gets used for politics sometimes, and really has some obvious names off of it (though they only liked to name a couple big-time people a year), but come on- just let the old guys have their fun.

And enough about ripping on Koko B. Ware for being in it. The dude stared at the lights for like SEVEN YEARS, during some of the peak years of the business, as the lowest-end guy on the "non-jobber" roster. He earned that damn HOF induction.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Since way back to Two days ago with the Owen Austin hit.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Dave was invited to attend the induction ceremony, but he was on tour with Judas Priest (IIRC) at the time. There was never any intention to induct Dave Mustaine into the Rock and Roll hall of fame as a member of Metallica.

  26. YankeesHoganTripleHFanJuly 30, 2013 at 7:07 AM

    A 4 DVD set perhaps?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yes, that means Jeff Jarrett is in.. and they said he never would be

    ReplyDelete
  28. Sorry to say, but Benoit is now going to be mainly remembered for the last 3 days of his life to the general public. He might have been a great worker but he's a murderer and those aren't thought of in the highest regards.

Now, the WWE HOF will only be considered a legitimate hall of fame when they induct Man Mountain Rock.

    ReplyDelete
  29. YankeesHoganTripleHFanJuly 30, 2013 at 7:42 AM

And Nailz. The beating he gave the Big Bossman was EPIC!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. YankeesHoganTripleHFanJuly 30, 2013 at 7:44 AM

Plus he did more for pulling up your pants high they Urkel ever did.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'll never understand the hard-on some fans have for Benoit getting into the HOF. Let me refresh your memory, he murder his wife and his 7 YEAR OLD! Who gives a shit about his wrestling abilities.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Nah, I'm fine with no DVD set as long as they still release something in blu-ray.

    ReplyDelete
  33. If Cena ever does turn heel he has to say something" You fans that boo me would cheer if Chris Benoit came out right now you sick freaks."

    ReplyDelete
  34. The actually think Jarrett would be a good fit in WWE today, it would be cool to see him back for a little bit.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'd like to have a camera around when someone lets him know.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Four!? Even Braden Walker only got three!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Does Wolfgang get in?

How about Ray Wilson? He carried Genesis on his back for a couple of weeks in late 1996.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Yes, WWE made it extremely clear that it was the "classic" (but not original" Flair/Arn/Tully/Windham lineup that were being inducted as "The Four Horsemen". Without really saying it, they firmly excluded Ole, Benoit, and just about anyone else that had ever been in the stable. I'm pretty sure the only other person who has ever been recognized as a member of the 4H on WWE TV was Dean Malenko.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Gene Simmons has flat-out stated that "KISS" will forever be him, Paul Stanley, Eric Carr (RIP), and whoever Gene & Paul have hired to stick in the Ace & Peter costumes. That's what happens when you save your money instead of ending up a broke drug addict who has to sell your share of the original band.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Another point: When Nirvana goes into the R&RHOF, it will be Cobain/Novoselic/Grohl (and probably Pat Smear, too, since Kurt always intended for the band to be a quartet). There won't be any awards waiting for Aaron Burckhard, Dale Crover, Dave Foster, Chad Channing, Jason Everman, or Dan Peters.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I agree, but I would regard the classic lineup to being

    Ric
    Arn
    Tully
    Ole/Lex

THen Barry. Im not discounting what Barry did. I like Barry as a Horseman but Ole and Lex IMO were more "classic" than Barry.

Honestly its the iconic PWI pic that puts Barry above Lex and Ole.

Lex did the the original WarGames matches and Ole/Arn were the tag champs for the first 2 years of the group.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I firmly think that if it was "WWE Honors or Appreciation Night of...." it would be more received than flat out stating WWE HOF

    ReplyDelete
  43. Their snubbing of Waldo is a travesty.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Great, now Paul Roma will show up at wrestling conventions with a "WWE Hall of Famer" banner.

    ReplyDelete
  45. So wait they didn't even count ole as a horsemen when they inducted them???? Lol I had no idea, now that's a ruthless fuck you from Vince. Wow ole is such a prick they won't even acknowledge he's an og horsemen? That's both hysterical and incredibly unfair

    ReplyDelete
  46. I've never understood the hard-on some fans for pointing out Benoit won't get in the hall of fame. Pretty sure we got it

    ReplyDelete
  47. On WWE.com HOF page, under the Von Erichs, only Fritz, Kerry, Kevin, and David are listed. Not Chris. The Horsemen listed are Flair, Windham, Tully, Arn, and JJ. Not Benoit, Mongo, etc.

So yes, they can be selective, and they should be.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I already have hard knocks, great DVD.

    ReplyDelete
  49. "Pretty sure we got it". You may have got it, but I wasn't commenting on you. I was commenting about the person who sent Scott the email. And there's many more who still feel Benoit needs to be in the HOF and will continue to post about it, so I will continue to reply to it.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Does it make you feel better to point out something so obvious over and over. We get it, your anti-murder. Good for you. I'm pro-work rate. And guess what, the wwe hof is a carny sideshow work, not a actual thing. So if business ever gets real bad they might do something with him to make a quick buck. Jimmy snuka murdered a young girl, and he's in there.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Christie Quinn, and not only will he lose to Quinn, he's now in fourth place in a recent poll. What a dick.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Does it make you feel better to point out your pro-murderer position over and over? We're both posting our same opinions over and over. So what's the difference?

What if Benoit strangled your kid or someone you care about to death. Or you don't care as long as you don't know the victims? He had great suplexes so that trumps everything else?

And why are you so bothered that Benoit isn't in the HOF. You totally devalue it by calling is "a carny sideshow work, not a actual thing". I actually care about it, and don't think that it should be disgraced by inducting a guy who strangled a 7 year old to death. There are others that shouldn't be in their for various reasons, but that doesn't mean we should add the strangler in there just because of that.

As far as Snuka goes, its not the same situation. The case has been open for 30 years, and the police have never had enough to charge Snuka. That doesn't make him innocent, but in Benoit's case, there is no doubt he killed 2 people. But let's just say Snuka is 100% guilty. That doesn't mean adding Benoit is okay. 2 wrongs don't make a right.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Nothing says "hall of fame" like technicalities and pedanticism.

    ReplyDelete
  54. What Benoit did doesn't make any difference to me because it was probably caused by his degenerative health conditions. Its not a jerry sandusky type situation because it wasn't ongoing behavior, he just snapped. What he did isn't even what keeps the wwe from mentioning him, its that it was probably caused by him being wrestler that makes Vince want him washed from history. So pardon me if I don't jizz all over myself for the wwe banning him from their history, solely because they want to act like treating their performers like circus animals in the 1920's doesn't cause health problems. Benoit was the chickens coming home to roost. Also the wwe hall of fame is a work, its not a legitimate rewardfor outstanding pperformance in a career.

  55. Scream09_HartKillerJuly 30, 2013 at 9:55 AM

It's not so much that he killed his wife and child, it's that by doing so he hurt Vince's feelings, and unfortunately he's dead and unable to do a Kiss My Ass club segment to make up for it.

calling all stations is an ok album. not great, but not horrible

i remember when phil left and ray came on board

whats funny is that one of the dudes who played drums on the album was nick d'virgilio of spocks beard

when neal morse (vox/keys) left spocks, nick did both vox and drums on albums but they had a genesis-type set up for live shows with another drummer

    and then nick left sb

    neat coincidence

    ReplyDelete
  57. You don't know why he's not there? Yeah, dude, me neither.

    ReplyDelete
  58. There are just as many issues with Halls of Fame for professional sports as there are with the WWE's. Baseball's Hall of Fame has been a mess for a while now, with members of the BBWAA using the Hall vote to express their personal opinions on former athletes.

We all rip on the WWE Hall of Fame as people who will never ever be a part of it. But it seems like it actually does mean something to the people who have been inducted, so I have no problem with it. It's just something extra for fans to discuss.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I like it. Is it perfect? No. But I just take it as a nice little trip to the past.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Two more than Spiderman gives. (Everyone is complaining about the HOF, and I'm just sitting her masturbating!)

    ReplyDelete
  61. And what about Marc Valiant? CY$5000 and a spin for those who get this reference.

    ReplyDelete
  62. What would be scary is that people would start liking Cena over something like that! (cause antiheroes and all)

    ReplyDelete
  63. He'd better use the voice box for his acceptance speech.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Talent-wise, that lineup of Flair/Tully/AA/Windham was the best, but yes, they only lasted 4-5 MONTHS. Guess they wanted to get Barry in there somehow.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Wrestlecrap, man.

    ReplyDelete
  66. That reminds me of a kind-of joke I made...Vince not letting Savage in the HOF has nothing to do with him banging Steph...it was because he went to WCW without asking, which to him is probably even WORSE.

    ReplyDelete
  67. King Slender should be there! Starman is too much of a jobber.

    ReplyDelete
  68. HOF should a selection group that comprises of people who have been prominent and are well respected in the business i.e: Jim Ross, or notable writers like Meltzer or even Scott Kieth himself. The fact that Vince stated that it "exists in his head" is why people hate it so much.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I got no problem with Koko being in the HOF. He was a pretty big name in the late 80s/early 90s. Worked a few Manias, had some pretty good matches, and was on the first RAW. I think he earned his spot and having met him a couple months ago, seems like a really nice guy. I'm glad he got his moment.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I thought Mike Von Erich would've been given a pass. He had an unbeaten strike!

    ReplyDelete
  71. I said this the other day, Vince will do business with anyone as long as there is money to be made. However I just don't see JJ as a fit in the current product. Maybe backstage as an agent/booker but not in ring.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Now where do I sign the petition to get Virgil in the HOF. His speech alone would be money.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryJuly 30, 2013 at 11:24 AM

    He's still alive?

    ReplyDelete
  74. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryJuly 30, 2013 at 11:26 AM

Dave Mustaine can go fuck himself.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Jason Everman's pretty over it, anyways. Did you read that recent article about him and his military career? Glad he's not bitter about getting fired from Nirvana AND Soundgarden.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Jesus Christ, let it go. He wouldn't make it in in a real sport, and he is closely associated with the character he played who bears the same name as him. He isn't integral in retelling the history of wrestling, so it doesn't matter. I can't enjoy him anymore, and while it's fine if you do, a publicly-traded company isn't going to promote his midget ass anymore. End of story.

    ReplyDelete
  77. But Vince let Savage go to WCW with his blessing. He even thanked him on Raw for all his service and wished him all the best.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I don't agree with any of this. Dave Mustaine is not in the Hall of Fame, and he certainly doesn't think he is, according to his book. Can't really make up your own rules for their Hall of Fame, best just stick with what actually happens.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Not only is his logic inaccurate for Benoit & the Horsemen, it's not even that accurate for how the R&R HOF works. I don't know about Metallica but I do know for some bands that have had multiple lineup changes, they've only invited some members. When Fleetwood Mac was inducted - they included the famous lineup (Buckingham/Nicks/Fleetwood/McVie/McVie), and the original lineup with Peter Green: but they did NOT induct Bob Welch who was a singer/guitarist/songwriter for them from 1971-1975 (possibly due to a lawsuit he had with Fleetwood and the McVies).

Not sure about Metallica - the current guys may have specifically told them not to invite Mustaine.

    ReplyDelete
  80. They have acknowledged him as an 'original' horseman - on the Horsemen and Flair DvDs and other places. They just didn't include him in the HOF.

And it may have been Ole's decision, not Vince's. Ole is the one who apparently refused to be interviewed for the Horsemen DVD.

    ReplyDelete
  81. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm on it!

    ReplyDelete
  82. What, you mean he wasn't in there already as a member of Power & Glory?????

    ReplyDelete
  83. what am I looking for?

    ReplyDelete
  84. Forgive the dumb guy, but what's the heat with Dave exactly?

    ReplyDelete
  85. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryJuly 30, 2013 at 12:25 PM

He's one of those crazy republican fuckheads. Like, he thinks all these recent mass shootings were planned by Obama so he can take all our guns, and that's one of least stupid things he's said.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I can't wait until they induct the nWo, so you have guys like Virgil, the Harris Twins, and Stevie Ray billing themselves as WWE Hall of Famers.

    ReplyDelete
  87. MaffewOfBotchamaniaJuly 30, 2013 at 2:02 PM

I honestly have more respect for Scott each time I see the e-mails he receives.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Lanny Poffo says that the real reason Vince hates Randy is because he took the Slim Jim account with him.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Um, WWF still did Slim Jim ads after he left for a while, only Bam Bam starred in the spots.
