  1. I disagree with parts of the premise. You mention Punk and say "Oh, he was a heel though". Not really. He was clearly still a heel when he cut the pipe bomb promo, but he was clearly turning face when he cut the ice cream promo the week before, and by Summerslam he was definitely a face. He did not beat Cena clean on either show, but was still put over and made to look strong by beating Cena mostly clean (not via chair shots, low blows, direct outside interference, etc.) and held his own in a long back and forth match, not a match where he only takes control with a cheap shot.

I would also question why Orton cashing in automatically means they're sacrificing Bryan. Many top guys have been cashed in on, including Cena, Orton, and Undertaker, and not one of them successfully stopped the cash in (referring to the surprise cash ins). So why is it Cena can lose a cash in match because Carlito and Chris Masters beat him up, but if Bryan beats JOHN CENA and then loses a cash in, he's somehow weak? Furthermore, I don't see anyone suggesting this as "Orton beats Bryan and dominates the shows while Bryan goes back to the undercard". I think the way to do it, personally, is to have Orton cash in, Bryan get screwed by Vince out of a rematch, and Orton going over Cena, Punk, Sheamus, etc via nefarious means, until Bryan finally gets his revenge at WM (where Cena and Punk will probably have other things going on anyway). Not sure I see how any of that makes Bryan look weak or sacrifices him.

And here's something to think about. Say Bryan wins but there is no cash in. Who is his next opponent? Find me the top heel he can defend against. Del Rio is world champion so it won't be him. Who else? Big Show if he comes back as a heel? Pass. WWE is extremely heavy on top faces and extremely light on top heels right now. That's why a heel turned Orton makes the most sense. I agree I'd hate to see Orton cash in, then beat Bryan for the next few months before moving on to something else with Bryan getting shunted down the card...but I don't think that's what will happen here, if there is a cash in.

  2. I can't speak to anyone else, but just this once, I'd sacrifice the 'better story' of Orton cashing in that some people here harp on if it meant watching Daniel Bryan celebrate with the title to end the second biggest show of the year. Wrestling has become so pedantic over the last... God, DECADE or so now, that when something legitimately fresh and exciting comes along, I just want to savor that happy moment and remember why I even loved the damn business in the first place.

I don't care about Randy Orton. I know that he's over with the general fan base, and that's perfectly acceptable. But he's been around almost as long as Cena, and has been tapped out creatively. Where do you go with him over than to retread ground that's already been hashed out ad nauseum? At least Bryan on top provides fresh angles and feuds that haven't been done TO DEATH since 2006.

  3. Here's my problem with the whole Orton cashing in thing: it's completely out of character with how he's been presented vis-a-vie Bryan in the past couple of months.

While the two have fought and have even expressed a pretty healthy dislike for each other.....they have also teamed together, and more importantly, Orton has already shown Bryan respect in the form of a handshake. Let me repeat that: Randy Orton, the man who OMG HEARS VOICES HE'S THE APEX PREDATOR WHAT A BAD-GUY ANTI-HERO, shook the hand of the man who beat him. To then turn on him at Summerslam and start a program.....I mean, it's just so out of left field *as a heel turn* that it puts me to sleep even thinking about it.

However, what if Orton, instead of doing the obvious and cashing in.....instead came out, teased the cash-in....and then simply acknowledged Bryan's victory. Respected it. Tell me THAT wouldn't get everyone involved over like gangbusters.

I just think Orton going "You get this night, Bryan....this one night. After tonight....it's open season." is far, far more interesting than Yet Another Heel Turn.

  4. But honestly, like what? Which heel does Bryan face? Unless HE is turning heel, he can't go up against faces forever.
