Enough with these fucking performance evaluations. The GM is stupid. Performance evaluations are stupid. This whole thing is stupid. What a waste of time. If anyone should have a performance evaluation it's Mike GIllis. Seamus sucks too.
I was actually on the trade Schneider bandwagon because I like Luongo and I figured they could get a hell of a lot more for Cory than they could for Lu. And now this way everyone's happy: Schneider gets to be the #1 guy in Jersey when Brodeur retires, Luongo can start all 84 games for the Canucks like he wants to do, the Canucks get some cap room once they dump Booth and Ballard and can sign a few free agents. Granted, one first round pick was pretty slim, but getting a first, second and top quality guy from Edmonton was a bit of a dream anyway. And it's not like Luongo suddenly became not an elite goalie. I'm gonna go with "cautiously optimistic" on this one.
But as for the performance evaluation and McMahons, yeah, fuck that noise, bro.
Thank god the Leafs didn't sign him...
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see Scott make public his performance evaluation of all of the contributing editors of the Blog of Doom.
ReplyDeleteThat performance evaluation segment next week is gonna be death. All the McMahons and Vickie in the same ring, talking... Also, who is meant to be the face in the current McMahon Triumverate of Bullying? They're all coming across as horrible people.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the matter with you? Don't you know that Performance Evaluations are just an excuse for Brock Lesnar to come out and F5 somebody?
ReplyDeleteGillis bungled the shit out of the whole thing. It drags on for over a year, you finally move the more enticing asset and you get... the 9th overall pick? That's it? Not even 1 roster player to plug a hole?!? I'm just talking about a legit NHL'er who can play in your top 9, not a superstar or anything. I see this deal biting them in the ass when Schneider assumes his place as one of the top 3 goalies on the planet and Bo Horvat is giving us 15 goals a year and solid 2-way play.
ReplyDeleteP.S. They can't buy out Booth since he's still injured and the deadline is in 3 days. Buying out Ballard and the Schneider deal still leaves them just under the cap. So they'd have to ship out another big ticket in order to do anything of note with free agents (smart money on Edler).
Hopefully it's a swerve. Someone pronounces it as "Performance EVILuation" and then Kai En Tai comes out.
ReplyDeleteThey did trade away Scrivens, which I'm still unsure about. Normally the Leafs' net minders get traded to Detroit.
ReplyDeleteINDEED.
ReplyDeleteIt's a sad, sad state of affairs when I would actually get legit excited if Kai En Tai made an appearance on RAW.
ReplyDeleteOK, that's the only way the segment will be worth watching: Brock comes out, picks up Vince, Steph, Hunter and Vickie, and F5s them all at once.
ReplyDeleteAnd then he kimuras Cody Rhodes and Miz until their arms break.
More likely Miz kicks Brock in the leg until he gives up.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on finally resolving the Luongo situation. It's depressing that the Pens are about to go through the same thing. You'd think a GM as smart as Shero would get rid of Fleury as soon as possible.
ReplyDeletePAUL, MY KNEE! OWWWWWWWW!!!!
ReplyDeleteWell, you just created a potential horrendous situation. Vince McMahon, tired of no one listening to him, decides to inject his creation with a deadly dose of poison. So, Brock kills everyone other than Vicki.
ReplyDeleteHe tells Triple H to find anyone to face his Brock Lesnar at Summerslam for control of the company. And then of course, Punk shows up like a goof and gladly accepts Trips offer.
Vince McMahon with Brock Lesnar as his guy vs. Triple H with CM Punk as his guy. Which gets Heyman off the hook with Punk until.... SWERVE.
Basically, the "story they should tell", except, with Vince and Trips as the primary characters in it.
No one cares about job evaluations? If Vicki is fired, the audience really wouldn't care. If she stays on, the audience really wouldn't care.
ReplyDeleteThat's why I liked Jack Tunney as figurehead. He came in like 1-2x a year. He was the top guy for years. He only made major announcements like stripping Hogan of the title/ announcing royal rumble for the title, stripping dibiase of the title and made wm4 a tournament for the title, and announcing the main events at wrestlemanias. Thus, you knew that if he spoke on tv, this was a major announcement. Also, he didn't even need to speak 90% of the time; all the announcers need to say is, "From the Office of President Jack Tunney, blah blah blah."
Not ARRRRGH?
ReplyDeleteScrivens, ain't he that feller from Entourage?
ReplyDeleteHow does this affect the Blackhawks winning the cup several more times, as we all know they will?
ReplyDeleteRemember when David Stern took Adam Silver to task during a Knicks-Nets game on ESPN and people totally wanted to see that rather than the game? You don't? You mean people don't want to see corporate bullshit that reminds them of the nonsense they see at work everyday?
ReplyDeleteWoooosh....
ReplyDeleteThat's the sound of American sports (or Canadian... I don't know) flying over my head.
It used to be Canadian sports, but America bought the rights to it about 25 years ago.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I've only been back watching WWE regularly for the last year or so after a good seven hear hiatus, so someone tell me this: has Vicki Guerrero ever been even mildly attractive? Or has she always looked ridden hard and put away wet?
ReplyDeleteSomeone watched Gossip Girl didn't they?
ReplyDeleteAnother reason these are stupid is that WWE only has two possible outcomes for these angles: Vickie will either be humiliated and dismissed forever (Bischoff, Adamle, and sorta with Laurinitis) or we'll get a run-in / attack on Vince and the whole thing is quietly dropped in favor of focusing on the attacker (Heyman/Brock, Randy Orton back in 2009).
ReplyDeleteBasic economics... on top of their executive pay, the McMahon's pay themselves as "talent", albeit on a limited appearace contract. Hence, every Summer, Vince dies in a car explosion, or has the stage fall on him, or gets fired, or all the McMahon's fight, etc., etc., ad McMahonium.
ReplyDeleteI'd rather see Stern get curbstomped by random NBA scrubs... A little bit of Austin-McMahon sprinkled in a whole lot of Nexus.
ReplyDeleteThe Schneider trade is awful. They only got the 9th pick in the draft for him and there's questions they overreached for Bo.
ReplyDeleteWhy not just suck it up and buy out Lou? Just an awful trade that Gillis completely fucked up from the beginning.
I miss the old days of Jack Tunney where he'd only appear on screen for contract signings or to make tough decisions/rulings. Just get a regular guy in a suit and let's see him once or so every month or when a tough ruling needs to be made. Not this matchmaking every week heel/face thing. Really wipes my ass.
ReplyDeleteIf Tim Duncan would hit Joey Crawford with the F5, I would be an NBA fan for life.
ReplyDeleteIt used to be part of the deal that the babyfaces would make fun of Vicki for being fat/ugly, but that was dropped when one of their anti-bullying partners got wind of it.
ReplyDeleteAnother aspect of her character has been "cougar" and she was married to Edge in storyline at one poi t.
Vicki is actually quite attractive in a cougarish type way; I've seen the pictures to back it up. But, you end up looking ugly when you're over 40 and always surrounded and compared to 20-something waifs like the Divas.
Don't feel back, it's hockey. Real Americans don't care about it anyway.
ReplyDeleteNot sure I agree with you re: Vicki being an attractive "cougar". For one thing, with that haircut she looks like a dark haired version of Vicki Lawrence, and that ain't good. If she grew her hair out that would probably help a lot.
ReplyDeleteI feel like Ron Ron would be a World Champion
ReplyDeleteI know I love buying tickets to see sporting events where I don't know the matchups.
ReplyDeleteVickie's not exactly the most "magazine pretty" woman, but they definitely dull her looks down for the camera - just see the photos below. I find her quite sexy, actually.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.google.com/search?q=vickie+guerrero+bikini&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=AvbSUcnkBOfA0QHGiYGgDA&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=800&bih=481#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=BxK0QUuRSBSx1M%3A%3BTvRNpcvjxWgM2M%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fringsidenews.com%252Ffile%252Fpic%252Fphoto%252F2012%252F01%252F0107bc0681907f44c2b94a8c5fae9024_1024.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.ringsidenews.com%252Fphoto%252F132%252F054%252Fuserid_1%252F%3B400%3B600
Okay, those are pretty nice, I'll grant you that.
ReplyDeleteBut that goddamn grandma haircut has still got to GO.
The haircut's just part of her character - she's supposed to be as repulsive as possible.
ReplyDeleteYeah, TNA has the more attractive 35+ women.
ReplyDeleteI know it's just part of the business now but that's always an aspect of Raw I find very hard to suspend my disbelief with - a Main Event being made at the start of the show thanks to an in-ring altercation. I just imagine Vickie Guerrero backstage saying "Thank God Sheamus and CM Punk got into an argument - now I've got a Main Event! Someone tell the Usos and 3MB that they're match is on the undercard now."
ReplyDeleteI get that, but after seeing the bikini shots I'm convinced it's a damn shame they went that route. I mean, I find the Bella Twins repulsive, mostly because they're such insufferable bitches; they're still hot.
ReplyDeleteThey could make Vicki a serious, sexy cougar and still use her as a heel. The screechy voice does more for that than anything else.
My disbelief always gets suspended when guys wait until next week's show to keep fighting someone, as in Austin gets attacked on RAW by Rock, doesn't do anything about it Tuesday through Sunday, but then wants his payback NEXT Monday. You'd think by then he would have cooled off.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, but there is no way that Vicki is attractive.
ReplyDeleteYeah, those photos did nothing for me. She's busted.
ReplyDeleteI fully support this idea
ReplyDeleteINDEED
ReplyDeleteAs with any NHL-related discussion I just have to throw this out there: Fuck the Sabres.
ReplyDeleteOnly there might be some hard feelings between Luongo and the Canucks. It's pretty much the equivalent of dumping your girlfriend for someone else and then having to run back to her.
ReplyDeleteGillis wanted too much for Luongo and in the end he successfully managed to hold out until he could give up more to get less - the trademark of any good GM.
ReplyDeleteThe worst is when someone turns heel on their long-standing friend and they wait until the next week to find out way. Didn't confront them after the show? Didn't have words in the rental car on the way back to the hotel? Didn't send a text? Didn't tag them in a pissed off status off facebook?
ReplyDeleteShe's somewhere between 2am to 2:30am attractive.
ReplyDeleteAh yes, the ol' "I went home at 2:00 with a 10 but at 10:00 I woke up with a 2" problem.
ReplyDeleteHe gave up Cory Schneider in a trade so bad, the panel at TSN was laughing at him. He could've traded Cory after 2011 and gotten much more. He could've traded him to Edmonton and gotten more.
ReplyDeleteOr he could've stopped being so stubborn and realised the new CBA was going to kill him and traded Lou last summer. Or ownership could've just bought Lou and Ballard, saved the cap space, and kept Schneider.
Instead they have a goalie who doesn't want to be there, and he's locked up for 9 more years.
Gillis an idiot.
At one point, the Canucks had Cody Hodgson, Michael Grabner and Cory Schneider as the future. All three have been traded. He sucks.
It's just a macguffin, like contract signings and weddings. It's WWE's lazy little way of telegraphing the fact that something "unexpected" is about to happen.
ReplyDeleteAnd let's be honest, who hasn't had that problem?
ReplyDeleteMeh. Schneider didn't have the best season so I think a top ten pick is pretty generous for the guy. He's far from an elite goaltender at this moment.
ReplyDeleteGillis does suck as a GM, though.
People from Boston, Chicago, Detroit and New York aren't real Americans?
ReplyDeleteWhat about when WWE promotes matches that never even happen? i.e. every episode of the Main Event and the occasional RAW/Smackdown bout.
ReplyDeleteYou know how everybody in WWE talks about how the Austin/McMahon feud was so wildly successful was because everybody secretly wanted to flip off their boss and kick their ass? Well, in the past couple years it feels like we've seen numerous performance evaluations. Vickie and Johnny Ace immediately come to mind.
ReplyDeleteAnd in each of these instances, the person being evaluated is presented as a heel. So in their minds, why do they think your everyday man wants to see some boss publicly humiliate one of his workers?
That can't be accurate. It's not as if they didn't pay Christian for a year because he was injured and off television. They have no obligation to use somebody on television just because they sign a talent contract.
ReplyDeleteThe best part of the Hodgson trade is that he was traded for a prospect failing to reach potential, but he was big - and if the Canucks happened to make the finals, and the Bruins happened to make the finals, then Kassian's size could come in handy.
ReplyDeleteThe Canucks lose in the playoffs and Gillis always trades for why they lost. There's no time machine and it never works.
ReplyDeleteI think Schneider has the best save percentage of any goalie with at least x amount of games the past few years. He's clearly got talent. Worth more than a pick
They have admitted to it repeatedly, it isn't like it is some kind of secret. They give themselves fairly large talent contracts for a certain number of appearances, then make sure they make them. It wouldn't be like the contract Christian is on, it would be more like they do for Lesnar or the Undertaker these days.
ReplyDelete"Okay, I've only been back watching WWE regularly for the last year or so after a good seven hear hiatus...."
ReplyDeleteYeah, I guess it would be hard to watch the product when you're dead.
If you go back and look at the 2011 10-K filing for WWE, Triple H gets paid an additional million dollars per year as a talent (he has to make some appearances to justify getting it to shareholders) plus additional amounts when he is on PPV's, RAW, live shows, etc., in addition to his salary as a company executive. Vince and Steph have similar deals.
ReplyDeleteWhen Luongo was having his playoff meltdowns Gillis stood by them. Then it seemed he favored Schneider and was looking to throw Luongo under the bus first excuse he got - I didn't think Luongo played badly when he was benched against LA last year but they'd already made up their mind on him. Which I don't necessarily blame them for because he does have way too many playoff stinkers for an elite goalie but they seemed to be waiting for a reason to bench him. Almost immediately they were calling Schneider their starter, like they had it planned all along. But rather than do the logical thing and rid themselves of Luongo, they just kept him around while they waited for a return they weren't getting, pissing Luongo off more and more - and it all boiled down to them having to move a goalie and being forced to move the one they wanted to keep because they waited too long to move the one they didn't. Even if you call the 9th pick fair value for Schneider, it's still been handled horribly, and now they have a goalie who's 1) bitter at the organization, 2) still likely to have the playoff meltdowns that made him less attractive than Schneider, 3) Is turning 35, and 4) signed for 9 more years.
ReplyDeleteGillis goes from asking too much for the guy he wants to get rid of to settling for too little for the guy he wanted to keep. Well played.
Caliber Winfield gets 4 and 3/4 stars...out of a hundred.
ReplyDeleteBecause the writing staff is now headed by Stephanie who sees her Dad/the boss as an infallible hero and feels the dressing down of subordinates is something to be celebrated and relished?
ReplyDeleteLuongo was benched against LA, because the team needed a spark. It was generally acknowledged that it wasn't his fault. Just his luck that Schneider played really well those three games.
ReplyDeleteFun fact, since Game 2 of the 2011 SCF, the Canucks are 2-12. I don't think the playoff meltdowns are all Lou's fault, the team and AV hung him out to dry a lot.
I think Lou and Gillis misplayed the market badly in 2012. There are rumours Lou was playing hard with his NTC, but Gillis also kept watching his asking price dwindle and dwindle. At the trade deadline he offered Lou for Scrivens and 2 2nd picks and the Leafs still said no.
I don't see how anyone can defend Gillis here.
I don't mind the concept. It's just that Vicki, bless her heart tries hard and deserves a golden parachute but she's terrible on the mic. Stephanie, bless her heart still is bangin' after all those kids but she isn't much better on the mic.
ReplyDeleteHHH vs. Paul Heyman or Uncle Eric was at least entertaining to watch as those guys are entertainers. Although HHH gets over on the sheer force of his popularity and isn't that much better than Stephanie on the mic if you break it down.
