Stay Classy TNA

And y'all wonder why I give them so much shit lately.

Comments

  1. They have to clear a lot of cap space so they can resign DOC and resolve the Aces & Eights storyline

    ReplyDelete
  2. Warning: Devil's advocacy ahead:

Eh, I've read rumors that he's getting out of the business. If those are true, I could see why TNA would release him. Of course, if they're not true, I can still see why they would release him. It's not like WWE kept Droz on the payroll forever, and they're actually a company that could have afforded to.

  3. kbwrestlingreviewsJuly 23, 2013 at 2:40 PM

The response I get from TNA fans are that they don't owe him a living and that's business.

Yes it is. So is Brooke and Garrett having jobs because their dads leach off an imbecile like Dixie.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I love how Eric Bischoff was defending Jesse...after all, it's not like he ever fired anyone who was injured (I know it's not like Jesse's situation, but...)

    ReplyDelete
  5. They need to use this money and sign Brutus Beefcake the hottest free agent in wrestling

    ReplyDelete
  6. Scream09_HartKillerJuly 23, 2013 at 2:56 PM

Yeah, so, I mock TNA because I mock most things, but I've been pulling for them and try to avoid really trashing him - but they deserve some shit for this. What was his latest health condition? Can he wrestle again? There's no chance he would have asked for a release to get back in the ring? Assuming they just cut him to save money, fuck TNA for this one. There's plenty of other garbage they could cut to save some money - Bishoff's kid is horrible and adds nothing to the show, and Brooke Hogan's already added nothing to one form of entertainment.

    ReplyDelete
  7. That's unfair to Garrett; he's definitely one of the best 8 wrestlers in the Aces & Eights

    ReplyDelete
  8. Whatever happened to Droz? He was doing the wwe.com thing for a long time. But I don't think he's been a part of the company for at least 4 or 5 years.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Droz was still on the WWE payroll (writing for WWE.com) until 2009/2010. Quick search and I couldn't find an article from him past then, so not sure if he's still getting paid or not.
But that's still at least a decade.
TNA is done and I'm shocked Dixie's dad is still willing to lose money on this.

    ReplyDelete
  10. On a related note (kind of) does anyone know if the WWE still has Droz on the pay roll?

  11. Cunt of PersonalityJuly 23, 2013 at 3:19 PM

DOC won't be resigning with TNA, I had the pleasure of conducting his first post-TNA interview and he shared the reasons for him leaving and it was mainly down to "creative differences". Check out the full interview at TheWrestlingMania.com

  12. Scott's even getting that EVIL Southern drawl!

I, for one, would like to see an updated picture with his new EVIL goatee!

  14. From reading Jesse's twitter it looks like he has retired from wrestling and is concentrating all his time on bodybuilding and running bodybuilding shows now. Also sounds like he is pretty much fully recovered from his injuries. So it may of just been a mutual decision since he is busy with his new career and doesn't wanna work in wrestling.

  16. One thing to add, who wants to bet Zema Ion is the next release due to his medical issues? (appendicitis and tumor on his colon)

    ReplyDelete
  17. Bryan ratings watch: 2.94 (or about 4 million viewers, down almost 100,000 viewers from the previous week ). Not too much of a dramatic drop off for the third hour with some strong showings in the 12-34 male demographics (he's popular with the kiddies, too).

So, he didn't exactly move the needle yet, but at least he didn't bomb. I don't foresee any dramatic changes because of those numbers. Middle of July will always be the toughest time to get decent ratings in North America anyway.

  18. YOU TELL HIM, ROB!

I know how to separate business and personal endeavours ;)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Unless this was a case of Sorensen's contract expiring and he didn't want to stay, this was the worst pr move you could make.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Cunt of PersonalityJuly 23, 2013 at 3:32 PM

Any excuse for a cheap plug!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yet another victim of the "independent contractor" scam.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I kinda hope he finds a good lawyer (Is David Otunga available, heard he never lost a case?) and sues them.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Dixie, I hate cripples, brother!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Not only does she add nothing, she takes away from the show too. I don't blame her for getting engaged in real life, but she should have made sure that TNA knew before TMZ did. TNA looks fucking stupid for this whole Bully Ray/Brooke marriage when she's being seen in real life engaged. Since she's not necessary in the Bully Ray story anymore, and there are like 3-KOs left in the company they should drop her ass off at the unemployment assistance offices.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Garrett sucks but at least he can get in the ring and do something that resembles bumping. Brooke on the other hand can't do a single live promo without stepping on her lines, and sure as hell isn't going to wrestle. TNA is too exposed on this nepotistic bullshit keeping her employed.

    ReplyDelete
  27. It's still a drop from this time, last year. I'm not blaming Bryan, but total viewership continues to drop year over year. I'm not counting Raw 1000 either, in case you were curious. I also feel like I must say, before someone flames this post, that I don't think WWE is in any kind of trouble (duh!) or that ratings are the end all, be all - just a curious stat.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think 3-hr Raw, 2-hr Smackdown, 1-hr Main Event, 1-hr Superstars, 1-hr NXT, and 30min Saturday Morning Slam are burning wrestling fans out.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I guess I have to be the one to point out, real life vs. a tv storyline? You're kidding right? Next thing you'll tell me is that Dolph Ziggler and AJ were really dating and they broke up on Smackdown.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Panda can probably write it off to reduce their tax liability.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Weren't all those shows around last year too? And RAW rarely includes wrestlers that appear on Superstars or lesser shows, meaning, people are simply less interested in wrestling in general.

    ReplyDelete
  32. You're right, the people are generally less interested, and it's the hubris of the companies that prevent them from recognizing that they slowly depleting their audience.

    ReplyDelete
  33. They had just expanded to 3-hrs and just started Main Event and SMS, and just rebranded NXT

    ReplyDelete
  34. Well, you know that the WWE is reacting to this by? MOAR MCMAHONS~!

    ReplyDelete
  35. So you're saying that those shows took viewers away from Raw? (serious question, not being a dick)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Not took away, burned out fans by there being too much content to keep up with.

Although taking away is possible too.

    ReplyDelete
  37. It's not the point of their being a difference of real life or a story line; but they were right in the middle of teasing that their fake relationship was potentially going to resume, when TMZ reported her very real life engagement. It's story based entertainment; however, they still operate under premise of suspended disbelief.

Re-read what I wrote before you get your collar up, I recognized the difference in in the first lines of my post.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Depends. Are TNA's lawyers as incompetent as WWE's?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yup, they feed us more of em; surely they'll keep people tuned in and grow the audience at the same time!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Still didn't really explain what I meant. I meant fans watched less overall wrestling because of having so much. Most tv shows lose viewership over time because people get bored with the ideas/characters/stories. WWE doesn't do enough unique and new things to keep fans interested most of the time.

    ReplyDelete
  41. But I still don't understand your overall point. Who cares is TMZ reported it. The suspension of disbelief happens from the start of the show until the end. As adults, we realize that after the show ends, these people have real lives. I'm not trying to be patronizing, but you're not leaving me much choice.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Would WWE send its lawyers to fight and put TNA out of business?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Here's what's funny, for me, the last month and half of Raw has been good to excellent. The pacing is better, the wrestling is longer (and better - thanks Bryan!) and the show is in a better place than this time last year with much of the younger talent getting more exposure. Ratings are a funny thing.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Oh yea I feel the same way, but fans have slowly been drifting away ever since the 3-hr Raws started. Other than occasional random spikes the rating has pretty much declined or maintained since that point.

    ReplyDelete
  45. If anything, WWE's lawyers would defend TNA's right to maintain the company-independent contractor relationship. They don't want that genie out of the bottle.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Except they aren't separate when you post links and plug the show under that name--I know I WON'T be clicking your links solely because the embarrassingly juvenile nature of your handle.

    ReplyDelete
  47. That you pay people who suffer career ending injuries during your watch until they ask for a release? WWE already does that, don't see how it'd hurt them.

    ReplyDelete
  48. It's not like Scott won't plug it either. Just e-mail the man. He'll even give it its own thread and everything.

    ReplyDelete
  49. You have the choice to patronize or not, you choose to do so.

These companies try to work the fan before and after the shows now, its not just between the opening video and closing copyright anymore, they're doing it with their social media presence, shoving Twitter handles down your throat. Some of the talent break kayfabe while others still work their followers, Bully Ray typically works his followers, not breaking character. It makes him and them look foolish in my eyes that they didn't reveal her moving on from Bully Ray before it broke on TMZ just to protect the integrity of their stories, and protect the little bit of kayfabe they have left.

It's not a major issue, but my disdain for Brooke Hogan's role in the programming dictates that I pick crap like this.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Any company that demands exclusivity is using the independent contractor thing as a Scam. They might have some leg to stand on if wrestlers were allowed to work for more then one promotion while under contract

    ReplyDelete
  51. This is really a bad PR move and probably tells you a lot about their financial situation. I wouldn't be surprised if the Carters are looking to sell the company soon.

    ReplyDelete
  52. We don't have the extent of what WWE actually pays and how much. I'm glad that they do and that they support rehab for ex-wrestlers, but it's not the same as having an actual established form of healthcare for the employees in the same way that employees of Titan, inc. enjoy.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Maybe WWE will of learned from the WCW invasion angle if that happens . . .

    ReplyDelete
  54. Your last sentence says it all, you don't like Brooke on TNA TV, fine, I don't either. That's really what your annoyed by more than the fact that her fiance proposed to her and her brother posted it on instagram right away. It's not like she was aware this was happening.

As for kayfabe, it's long gone. Some guys have fun with it, but if you think that should dictate in any way how they conduct their personal life, you're taking this TV show way too serious.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Well of course they wouldn't fight the case along those lines at all to protect themselves, they'd just fight for Sorenson to get money deserved for his career ending, life threatening injuries, and making it explicit that, that is the reasoning. Probably just end up as a settlement of the Carters giving Sorenson TNA and Sorenson selling it immediately to WWE with the guarantee of a life long job.

    ReplyDelete
  56. *runs for cover before a re-book the WCW Invasion thread takes over*

    ReplyDelete
  57. Mike Johnson from PWInsider just posted that Sorensen was indeed cut in a cost-cutting move. He also learned that Sorensen was getting paid more than anyone else at his level, so he could be helped during his recovery, and that is why he was let go. Just a bad move by a clueless company. I know things are tight but this is a black eye for the company.
Also, a lot of folks in the company are worried about more cuts in the near future.

    ReplyDelete
  58. If only Steve Austin hadn't...

    ReplyDelete
  59. I think WWE will buy TNA the moment a rumor of it being for sale are true. Essentially buying a 2 hr tv time slot on Spike

    ReplyDelete
  60. I don't know if it would transfer like that. At the minimum, they can get their library on the cheap.

    ReplyDelete
  61. We always hear how much Spike loves TNA though, don't think they'd mind having a WWE show instead

    ReplyDelete
  62. Oh, I agree. I will say though, based on the Invasion debacle and what they did to ECW, I have zero hope that the show wouldn't turn into another WWE show within 6 months. Is the revenue enough to add another 2 hours of TV?

    ReplyDelete
  63. And you're taking my post too serious and looking to provide a dissenting opinion in an attempt to feel you're getting over, it seems to be your shtick. Fair enough, can't change your mind, and don't care to do so.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I like how you mention "any company," because this isn't just WWE and TNA. ESPN does this to a lot of their talent/writers/reporters as well (another reason to hate them).

    ReplyDelete
  65. I have a schtick? Huh, that's so cool, had no idea. Here I thought we were having a fun back and forth...oh well...

    ReplyDelete
  66. I think it will be Spike buying the company. They will get first dibs. They bought Bellator, so it makes sense for them to buy TNA

    ReplyDelete
  67. Yea that depends on what Spike would pay for the ratings boost . . . no idea . . .

    ReplyDelete
  68. That is a possibility, depends on if Spike actually wants to be bankrolling/running it or not. If not they'd let WWE buy it and offer them the time slot.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I don't think there's any real storyline there, though. These two companies have no history, aren't battling each other every Monday night during arguably the hottest period of wrestling in history.

TNA "invading" does nothing for me.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Your_Favourite_AssholeJuly 23, 2013 at 4:14 PM

not sure if wwe could take the deal their tv deal is with universal; universal hd shows replays of raw and sd.

    spike is viacom.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I always thought your shtick was to filibuster any argument that revolved around stats or numbers and beat your opponent into submission. You're like 117-0 in those debates, for a 1.000 winning pct, 10-0 in your Last 10, 29-0 in debates last over 20 posts.

    ReplyDelete
  72. there has to be a way to book it, TNA as underdogs finally trying to take the the fight to WWE? AJ/Cena, Angle/Bryan, Bully/Punk?

    ReplyDelete
  73. Dirty_Dave_DelaneyJuly 23, 2013 at 4:15 PM

Well he did bolt from WWE in 2003 after being paired with Zack Gowen... and he did bodyslam the crippled Andre the Giant who, according to Hogan, died days later so you might be on to something here!

    ReplyDelete
  74. You are 100% correct!

    ^^Made up stat!

    ReplyDelete
  75. I dunno. I just don't see it. It's pretty obvious not many people are watching their show, so many wouldn't even know who those guys are. I don't think we'd get any storyline out of it.

TNA aren't equals with WWE the way WCW were. Vince would NEVER let those guys appear to be on the same level as his superstars.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Main Event is on Ion, Saturday Morning Slam is on UPN which is Time Warner / UPN

    ReplyDelete
  77. Vince wouldn't, Triple H might though and he might be able to talk Vince into it if he can show him good wrestlers wrestling each other in never before seen matches can lead to more money

    ReplyDelete
  78. Also, what sense would it make that TNA FINALLY start taking it to the WWE AFTER they've failed as a company? The WCW storyline made semi-sense due to them working the purchase of the company into the storyline. It all went up in flames after that.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Yea I guess it'd be better to just make them a stable of wrestlers trying to get into WWE after TNA failed and letting there skills prove there worth.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Sure, but I don't think we'd get the TNA name in. It could be used as a Radicalz type thing. I just don't see Vince OKing a storyline where TNA comes off as equals as WWE. He showed he wouldn't allow that when WCW entered the picture, and I don't think he'd do it with TNA, who aren't in the same league as WCW.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Could work, Vince recently saw the first Clash, spurring his interest in that young whippersnapper Sting

    ReplyDelete
  82. Cripplin' don't make the world go round.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Say they can have a job but only if they burn the TNA titles together first.

    ReplyDelete
  84. In other news, it seems that over 200,000 people changed the channel once Daniel Bryan started wrestling.

It seems that regular people just aren't that interested in the "sports" part of "sports entertainment"

    ReplyDelete
  85. It makes sense for Spike to own it. Impact gets good ratings comparing to the stations average.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Well depends on the cost really, what is the minimum operating budget/liabilities for TNA compared with advertiser revenue for Spike.

    ReplyDelete
  87. The drop is made more dramatic by the fact that RAW gained a significant amount of viewers in the third hour last week.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Normal people don't like "wrestling". They like the storytelling, and they put up with wrestling as a conduit for moving the story along.

Why do you think the huge ratings of the Attitude Era involved shows where the average match length was under two minutes?

    ReplyDelete
  89. If anything, that increase from last week was the dramatic thing. The dominant trend in this 3-hour era is that the third hour loses viewers, no matter who or what the main event is. The Rock, Cena, Punk, HHH...they've all lost numbers when appearing during the third hour.

    ReplyDelete
  90. 3rd hour started with Punk/Heyman and RVD/Barret though

    ReplyDelete
  91. Watching the tweets come in for @TNADixie

    ReplyDelete
  92. It's kinda weird cause a lot more people bought PPV's then and they had good lengthy matches on those

    ReplyDelete
  93. I never said it didn't. That hour was friggin' amazing on so many levels. I just labelled it "Bryan ratings watch" since he was the star of the show and took up the last 40 minutes. It'll be interesting to see how well the overrun did.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Pft, says a guy with a name like Kyle Warne.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I see your point, but I don't necessarily agree. The ratings during 2000-01 were huge and there was usually a lengthy main event.

    ReplyDelete
  96. How much can you blame that on him wrestling Swagger? I'd be interested to see if they'd flipped Caesaro and Swagger.

    ReplyDelete
  97. And take time to respond. If they continue the way they are they could see ratings begin to tick up.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Don't forget that Universal and USA might not be pleased with WWE going to Spike.

    ReplyDelete
  99. No one's watching a 30 minute match, it ain't happening unless it's PPV quality in star power. Cena/HBK going long? Fine? Punk and Cena blowing off their feud? Good idea.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Maybe, but the story of third hour as almost perfectly told. I wouldn't have changed it. I'm actually moderately happy with those ratings numbers. No changes = no screwing Bryan out of a ppv main events

    ReplyDelete
  101. Is it a text interview or on the podcast?

    ReplyDelete
  102. Maybe they need more nipples next week?

    ReplyDelete
  103. I thought that this guy was cleared to return? I could be wrong, but I thought that I read that, and Wikipedia concurs..
If he's healed up, and they've kept paying him this long, then I think that fulfills any moral obligation..
If I am wrong, and he's crippled for life, then they should probably keep paying him.

    ReplyDelete
  104. When does the Neilson system start counting social media stuff again? The system is almost completely outdated nowadays and it's sad that programs, not just wrestling, are so beholden to it.

    ReplyDelete
  105. My flatmate who has no knowledge of wrestling just read the headline on my laptop and said can TNA ever be classy? This again made me realise they desperately need to change the company's name if they ever want to be considered credible in the mainstream.

    ReplyDelete
  106. I just read from pwinsider that Jesse Sorenson was getting paid more than the regular production guys in TNA. I also read that he was even working some independant shows as well lately. I think this might be blown out of proportion.

dont watch any of these (well, main event depending n the card). hard to be burned out when youre not overexposed to it

plus peeps have to go out of their way to watch nxt and superstars since theyre online

    ReplyDelete
  111. I went to your site and there are only 2 comments. One person asking how he got injured and another person saying he was getting paid. So you are lying about this uproar from fans. There was none on your site.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Yeah, once you count every long weekend, any important games of any major sport that take place on a monday, followed by the entire playoff season, the summer holiday season, the Christmas holiday season, frosh week, exam week, gay pride week, and any other random television event that gets big press, you've got a lot of excuses.

    ReplyDelete
  113. He has been showing up at independent shows but not wrestling, either reffing or just being a special guest and doing autographs/merch sales.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Families on vacation, school kids on summer break, beautiful weather... there's a reason why first run programming (other than reality shows and cable shows trying to pick up scraps) isn't aired during summer: No one wants to devote a nice summer night to watching tv

    ReplyDelete
  118. How's he gonna pay off those medical bills without that 750 a show???????/.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Eventually, I'd rather start with matches that have never happened period myself. Joe can have some fun with Ziggler or Sheamus to start.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Yeah, because a silly username on a silly wrestling site dictates how good a person is at their job.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Wayne from the Wonder years is involved in TNA, is anyone surprised the ship is sinking.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Nobody wants to see Bryan succeed more than I do but your argument is flawed. Hour 3 ratings went down almost 200,000 people from hour 2. It's not as if people were sitting watching TV from 9 - 10, and then at 10:00 said "that's it, I'm going outside!"

    ReplyDelete
  123. You can make that argument with Punk, Cena and anyone else on the roster. It's happened to all of them.

    ReplyDelete

if hes wanting to do bodybuilding, i'm guessing his neck is more ok than it isnt

    ReplyDelete
  130. My summertime argument was for the overall rating hovering around 4 million and not exactly bumping up despite no Home Run Derby competition. Sorry, I should've been more explicit.

Still, third hour dropoff is a definitive trend regardless of the time of year. I haven't looked at the numbers in a while, but since last fall, I'd say about 15% of the shows actually experience a gain by the third hour (not counting overrun).

    ReplyDelete
  131. The only good to come of that injury was Zema Ion's promo afterward.

"All the people on Twitter, all the haters, calling me names, calling me a fruit...some guy called me a fruit! Tell you what...I'd pick being a fruit over being a *vegetable* any day of the week!"

    ReplyDelete
  132. Hasn't RAW consistently dropped in the third hour since they first went to the new length?

    ReplyDelete
  133. Yeah but Vince doesn't give guarantees...he gives opportunities!!!!!!!!

Ugh those poor bastards are treated like shit. This is why I'll never begrudge warrior or Jarrett for what they did.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Or maybe they're not going to watch him fighting two guys who are perceived as JTTS that no one has had incentive to give a shit about for 20+ minutes?

  135. What this means is that Dixie is being overruled by a Higher Power.

  136. Those are network TV deals. They have an exclusivity deal with Comcast/NBC Universal where they can't produce programs for any cable channels that are not owned by Comcast/NBC Universal. They can however produce programs for any over the air broadcast networks under that deal but I don't see TNA getting a network TV deal anytime soon.

  137. WWE's cable-exclusive contract with Comcast/NBC Universal means they can only buy TNA if Spike cancels Impact. Otherwise, Comcast/NBC Universal can sue WWE for breach of contract if WWE started producing a 2 hour program on a rival channel that isn't owned by Comcast/NBC Universal.

  138. That may be doubtful. Konnan sued them and won.

It's audio, and we're really thankful to him for taking the time to do it, we've added it to the end of our las couple podcasts, so it's easy enough to find. There's also a Fred Ottman aka Shockmaster interview if you dig deep enough, and a number of up-and-coming interviews. Thanks for the interest, it's appreciated!

  144. Vince is firing people in TNA now too?

  145. How did Daffney do in her case?

  146. If WWE's lawyers were incompetent, Vince McMahon would've gone to jail and the company would've lost tons of money, instead of made money, off the Owen Hart case.

They also won the Nicole Bass lawsuit and got Sable to go away. Losing the name was more because Vince is an idiot and violated a contract he signed.

  147. That's no fun. Joe and Punk will work for the diehards and the newbies who don't know their past.

....why do I need to make it clear? Where does it matter where I heard it from in the first place?

  149. I just think Bully's current character and Punk would make for a very good story.

  150. When you say "the response I get from TNA fans," wouldn't that trigger a question as to where you are getting this response? That is the question that I had immediately. Did you talk to people on facebook or on your site? I think it is a fair question. That is all.

Honestly no. It could have been friends of mine or a lot of other options. I don't get why anyone would wonder where I heard it from. I'm not annoyed about it or anything but I'm genuinely curious why I needed to prove I had these discussions.
