The End of TNA?

So let's assume TNA goes under. Who does Vince bring outside the obvious old returners coming back for easy pops. Also, what handful of people would you like to see brought in from a feud/workrate angle?

W
ell yeah, obviously you've got The Dudley Boyz, Jeff Hardy and Kurt Angle coming back.  Probably Bobby Roode and James Storm get brought in, and Magnus has star written all over him too.  I don't see Bad Influence due to Daniels being too old and Kazarian quitting the first time.  Aries?  Who knows.  Joe is probably past his best-before date at this point.  I can see Hernandez getting a big push if he works cheap to start, but they'd have to stick him in developmental for a while and he's not getting any younger.  Really, that's all there is salvageable out of it.

Comments

  1. I'd love to see Angle return. I think his best days are long behind him, but it'd still be amazing to see him come back before retiring. And admittedly, Hardy'd be fun to see come back.

I think the bigger question is whether WWE would want to see Bully tag again with Devon or if they'd be confident enough to give him a singles run. He's really proven himself as a singles star that I'd love to see him feud with Cena, Punk, Bryan, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  2. I really want to see Kurt back too. Reading that Shoot review from the other day had me really wanting to see him back in WWE.

You don't think they'd make another push at Sting for that one short run in WWE?

    ReplyDelete
  3. I dunno, Joe has enough friends in high places to probably make it. I can see HHH not getting behind him b/c he's fat though. Then again, Bray Wyatt isn't exactly an Adonis... Harder to tell these things now than a couple years ago, at least.

    ReplyDelete
  4. bobby roode.

he is the next big heel.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Could even do a mini invasion angle just have 6-10 guys running round like Nexas

    ReplyDelete
  6. Is Angle still sticking with his retirement in a few years? If so, even if TNA doesn't go under by then I could see Kurt going back to WWE for one or two more big matches before hanging it up. Definitely a HoF induction as well.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I don't see Vince, HHH, or Stephanie allowing TNA even that shred of legitimacy. I'd be surprised if they viewed TNA as anything other than a retirement plan for guys that don't fit the current model and/or a farm system.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Kurt coming back for a program against Swagger and Mantell's tea party faction seems to be an easy opportunity. I'd also think they'd work very well together given the amateur history for both.

    ReplyDelete
  9. No mention of AJ Styles? Wow.

I mean, I know he's not the strongest on the mic, but he's still the most popular guy on the roster and one of the absolute best wrestlers on the planet. Just imagine Styles/Punk or Styles/Bryan on a WWE PPV... we'd all need napkins afterwards.

As for other guys to bring in:

    1) Kurt Angle - Sure, he's basically "damaged goods", but Angle at 50% is still better than a lot of other wrestlers. Give him a part-time "special attraction" schedule, and he's good to go. You have no idea how much I'd love to hear a heel champion make an open challenge to anyone in the back, only for Angle's theme to hit.

    2) The Dudleys - I actually think WWE could have it both ways, with both being brought back for the nostalgia pop and a quick shot-in-the-arm for the tag division (Dudleys/Shield?), and then just have Bubba turn on D'Von six months later.

    3) Abyss/Park - Pretty good wrestler that meshes well with several different styles, and is able to play a variety of characters.

    4) James Storm - Proved that he has the mic and in-ring skills to be a main-eventer. I mean, he's probably not gonna be Hogan or Austin or anything, but he would have no trouble hanging with Cena, Orton, Punk, and Bryan.

    5) Sting - Just for the HOF induction and one grand send-off match at "WM".

As for anyone else... I think Samoa Joe is totally overrated and wouldn't mesh with most of the "WWE Style"-trained workers, Jeff Hardy has burned them SO many times, Bobby Roode puts me to sleep (he's TNA's Randy Orton), Aries would probably have a lot of problems backstage, Sabin/Daniels/Kazarian lack charisma, most of their current "X Division" guys suck, and the Divas/Knockouts would be thoroughly misused.

Kind of sad, actually, that there are only two or three home-grown stars that I think would be interesting. The only other person I'd really like to see in WWE is Alex Shelley - sure, he doesn't quite fit the criteria of this discussion, but he's a hell of a talent, and absolutely deserves a big break.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Abyss could be a nice replacement for Kane, who's getting up there in years.

    ReplyDelete
  11. The fact that Scott forgot about AJ Styles speaks volumes about how horrifically mismanaged his current angle is.

But Daniels and Kazarian LACK CHARISMA? What!?

    ReplyDelete
  12. They can come out with a funny little quip at times, but I don't think it's enough to deem them "charismatic". To me, it's one note, like Viscera as "The World's Largest Love Machine", or Charlie Haas dressing up like other wrestlers.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I can see them being a small stable, kind of like when "The Shield" first debuted, but no way would they be running roughshod over the whole roster or be booked as a main-event threat.

    ReplyDelete
  14. So is Abyss. The Joseph Park gimmick is partly to disguise his limitations after years of his body breaking down.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Not even if led by Angle & Hardy, WWE-made guys? If only for a short, short while?

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'm pretty sure AJ has said many times that he has no interest in WWE due to conflicts with his personal beliefs so I kind of assumed he'd just do Japan or indies or whatever. Plus he's not getting younger either.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I don't think they're any more "one note" than the PTPers or the Usos, or even the Shield to some extent, with the added value of being able to put together good matches more consistently.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Wasn't Hardy told that he could come back at any time as long as he was totally clean & all his legal issues were cleared up?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Roode is the most obvious to go to WWE. Magnus is second but should go to NXT first.

I don't know about the Dudley's being brought back as a team, seeing as Bully has re-invented himself and they do not care much about the tag-division.

Storm will probably go as well. Same with Aries.

I can see either Angle or Hardy coming in too. Not both though.

I don't know if AJ would go, or if they would even want him now.

I could see Sting going in to work a few major shows.

Joe, and Daniels can go back to RoH I suppose, but that promotion is going down the shitter too. Sabin could also go there too.

Kazarian might get a shot but that is slim.

If Hernandez didn't have all of those awful looking tattoo's, Vince might give him a chance. He could go to Mexico I suppose.

I would take TJ Perkins (Throw him in a mask and pretend he is a luchadore), Gunner, Robbie E., and maybe Jesse for developmental.

Knux, Wes, Garrett, and Rob Terry are all useless and should find a new profession.

Chavo and Ken Anderson can go do the indies I suppose.

I don't think Kenny King is bad but there is no spot for him in the WWE.

Jay Bradley has failed in developmental already. He is bad. Sam Shaw is terrible.

Joe Park is entertaining but is getting really out of shape and can barely work anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Roode puts you to sleep?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Do you even watch TNA? This is the dumbest thing I've read in a while. Daniels and Kazarian have embodied Edge and Christian as far as their "antics". They bring it weekly.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Zero chance. TNA is not WWE's competition. Some could have even argued ECW wasn't, but they were the 'big 3'.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Why do they have to stick Hernandez in developmental? He'd be perfect in the same role Big E is in for a whiny heel.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yeah, saying that Daniels and Kazarian lack charisma is flat-out ridiculous. Maybe several years ago I would agree but certainly not now.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Roode could definitely use a better, more distinctive finishing move just to complete the whole package.

    ReplyDelete
  26. AJ and Punk have heat, so even if AJ comes in Punk probably won't work with him.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Everybody says they are going to retire in a few years and they keep getting thrown money at them so they keep putting it off. Really, other than Austin and Rock and Jack Brisco, who has stuck by their retirements?

    ReplyDelete
  28. TheRealCitizenSnipsJuly 21, 2013 at 12:17 PM

You could put Bully in with Colter's faction too. Hell, you could plug him in just about anywhere today and make it work, which is a pretty good testament to his ability to revitalize himself.

    ReplyDelete
  29. If the company goes under, and chance Vince buys it and runs it as a separate company like he was supposed to do with WCW? Is their anything in the current tv contract with Universal that would keep him from running on a second network?

    ReplyDelete
  30. They would probably say they have to stick everyone from TNA because they don't know "WWE style."

    ReplyDelete
  31. Shawn Michaels.

  33. I see Angle and the Dudleyz getting their big comeback tour. Joe already gets mentioned a lot on WWE TV and productions. Aries would be awesome but is so damn small. I think Beer Money gets reunited to shore up the tag division. I don't think they really care about Sting at this point and Jeff Hardy has a pretty shady history. Joseph Park would be fantastic in an authority role.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryJuly 21, 2013 at 12:43 PM

Yeah, I would think that if TNA goes under Styles probably just retires. Maybe he does a retirement tour with ROH/PWG/etc...

    ReplyDelete
  35. Angle vs Daniel Bryan and Angle vs punk would be awesome

    ReplyDelete
  36. I've never heard that.

    ReplyDelete
  37. If I'm WWE I don't bring Angle back. Yeah he can still work, he's an entertaining character and he's automatically over and will be until the day he drops dead.

But that's the problem. I know we all joke about how he's on the death list but it's not really that funny. With all his health problems and his noted drug problems that day is going to come. If I'm WWE I don't want that blood on my hands. I don't want CNN talking about how an American hero died because of pro wrestling. That's why he left WWE in the first place. WWE left money on the table because they were scared he was going to die on them.

The only way I have him come back into the family is in a non-wrestling role. Hell, if I'm Vince I pay him a nice salary to sit at home or to train guys in Florida but he's not getting in my ring again.

In fact, why isn't he training guys now? Any training center that had Angle and Regal behind it would be the best in the world basically.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Have Bubba turn on Devon so Devon can return with a reverend gimmick.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Edge was told he couldn't be cleared to wrestle again so that doesn't count.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I guess I'll give you that one.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I could be wrong, but I'd imagine that Angle's ego wouldn't allow him to work as a trainer - it's probably all or nothing with him, and if he can't be a main-eventer, he'd rather not work for them at all.

    ReplyDelete
  42. If the company goes under, THE WHOLE TOWN goes under.

That's when the whores come in.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I know that a lot of people like him and find him entertaining, but I just never have. There's just something about him that I find incredibly bland, both as a wrestler and as a character.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I never liked Edge, either.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Punk referenced it in a promo during the original Summer of Punk, and they've both mentioned it on Twitter before.

    ReplyDelete
  46. If Angle or Hardy (or Sting, or Hogan, or any other big name) returned, I doubt they'd be affiliated with the "stench" of TNA.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I could be mistaken, but wasn't it over something really petty, like both men believing that they're truly "the best in the world"?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Last year, a fan went on Twitter and asked Punk about how he asked for AJ's autograph after a show and was wearing a Punk T-Shirt and AJ asked him to cover it up.
I also recall that Punk called AJ a sellout after he stayed with TNA after they would not allow talent to appear on RoH shows anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  49. To expand on my thought: if they did my proposed scenario, it could be from the angle (no pun intended) that Angle, Hardy and maybe Bully felt dropped by the WWE when they were first let go. And they are now bringing in people to help them get even or whatnot. This could, business-wise, be a way to make the bigger audience aware of TNA - the defunct company that WWE now owns the library to and will start using footage from in various releases. Of course, this is all crazy thinking from a crazy swede, but still. But honestly, deep down, I know you guys are right. So.. Damn.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Yes. I mean... Yes.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Well he is an Adonis in that he's built a lot like Adrian.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Does anyone else get the feeling that they really are going to go under and in a year TNA will be gone? Like a year from today, how likely do you all think TNA will be a company?

    ReplyDelete
  53. Why did Christopher Daniels and Samoa Joe never get a chance in WWE?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Considering Joe is close friends with the three top faces on the roster, you would really think they'd get him in even for a short run. Kazarian is besties with Cena, too. Him & Daniels deserve their shot, even for a short time. Honestly most TNA guys are past the age where they could make long term investments in them. Magnus is the most obvious, and I could see Kenny King and maybe Sonjay Dutt working there though. I could also definitely see both Bro-Mans working out well in WWE.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I see Samoa Joe going there. for sure, to renew his rivalry with Punk. Roode, Storm, Aries, Magnus, Kenny King - I could see them all going. I really don't know about Angle and Hardy, though. They would probably bring Kurt in for a match with Brock. Bully Ray seems like a logical fit, but he'd probably only go if they took Devon, who would become an agent. Joe Park would be awesome in WWE above everybody else.

    ReplyDelete
  56. They are not going to waste Angle on freaking Jack Swagger.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I'm not convinced he will never have another match... until he is dead...

    ReplyDelete
  58. I honestly think TNA will be around for a while. They're probably cutting costs because they work within a budget and its being streched by being on the road. I doubt the Carters will abandon it yet.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I would only have Angle as either a manager (give him Swagger!) or as a play by play guy. He really doesn't need to be wrestling anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I think it would definitely work as somebody's "personal representative".

    ReplyDelete
  61. Scream09_HartKillerJuly 21, 2013 at 2:12 PM

The TNA's going out of business stuff has been around as long as TNA has, and I've never believed it, but I have a bad feeling this time....For one, Panda's been taking losses on this thing for a while now, so every year that goes by they're one year closer to getting tired of that - and they had to of increased costs over the last few years. They brought in Hogan, threw money around at the Wolf-Pac, RVD, etc, went live on Monday, went live on Thursday, took Impact on the road.....

    ReplyDelete
  62. Bad Influence definitely have the personalities for WWE. Daniels may be old, but he can work a couple of years and then transition into a training role or even an announcing role. Never thought I'd be pushing Daniels as an announcer but his appletini-drinking douchey heel character is hilarious and would work great in tandem with a Josh Matthews or Scott Stanford.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryJuly 21, 2013 at 2:21 PM

As long as Spike TV is still on board they'll survive.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Well let's see. Out of all the WCW guys, Booker and Flair were the only ones that got any kind of decent run. So I'd say at best 1 or 2 would get decent treatment from TNA.

Sting would obviously get the Taker match and HOF treatment. The other would probably be Roode.

And isn't Hernandez almost as old as Daniels??

    ReplyDelete
  65. Aries is too close to Punk in personality, but his ring work is so badass he'd be a good acquisition.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Aries vs. Bryan would be an awesome match

    ReplyDelete
  67. Nigel McGuinness, I guess?

    ReplyDelete
  68. Nah from the sounds of it its because of that ROH thing, where AJ wouldn't go to bat for people to be able to keep working in both (although for a while they got to again, before losing it). Plus AJ's a dick in real life and Punk is, well we all know, so its easy to imagine they just don't get along.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Doesn't he have some kind of career-ending issue to? There's a difference between retiring by choice and being forced to retire (that's what'll happen to Angle, one way or another he'll be forced out).

    ReplyDelete
  70. Not at all: they should feed Swagger and Colter to Angle as a returning American hero to firmly re-establish him in WWE and lead into his eventual Mania feud.

Don't kid yourself - Angle has been gone for SEVEN YEARS. You can trade off his name recognition off the bat, but he's not The Rock or Austin, who've transcended WWE to an extent, or even Michaels, who was with the company for two decades. Plus, Angle would stick around a while at the top of the card. You don't burn him off in one shot.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Yeah the dude is 40.WWE wouldn't use him

    ReplyDelete
  72. When or if something happens to Angle the WWE is taking the heat anyway. He could drop dead in a TNA ring after saying "Hey, I'm Kurt Angle and I work for TNA.... blarrrrrrrghhhh" and the news would still skewer the WWE for it.

    ReplyDelete
  73. He's buddies with Cena?

    ReplyDelete
  74. Yup. Hell, half the news stations would call him a WWF wrestler, with that title being in the graphic

"Olympic Hero turned WWF wrestler died etc."

    ReplyDelete
  75. If only there were like literally dozens of matches between those two in existence.....

    ReplyDelete
  76. It would be kind of sad to see Bully Ray regress to his Dudley Boyz persona. There's not really a tag division to return to, and Bully has just been KILLING it in TNA.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Yep. Cena, Joe, and Kazarian all trained & traveled together back in California and had rap battles in the car, which is how Cena created his early character.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Ok so I like the first part of that idea. I just don't think the whole aknowledging TNA thing would happen in any shape or form.

    ReplyDelete
  79. And Aries is even smaller than Bryan.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Daniels - Age and too indy
    AJ - Too southern
    Joe - Too fat

These are WWE's reason's not mine. Actually they had some interest in Joe awhile back, the Umaga gimmick was supposedly for him. Don't know if he thought thought was insulting or it was a money issue, but he never went.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Makes me wonder why they never brought him in earlier though. I have DVD's from 2003 with him.

    ReplyDelete
  82. If I were the WWE I'd bring in four to six guys straight away, sign them up to a one-year contract each, and run a six-month long 'Invasion' angle, but like I said only have it be a smallish group so they don't have to bother using up their whole roster. Basically have the Dudleyz, Roode, Magnus, Aries and Styles run in and feud with, I dunno, Punk, Bryan, Kane, Ziggler, Sheamus and Kingston and just have those combos have great matches for six months or so before WWE win the blow off match and they can decide whether to keep them all or not.

Save Angle, Hardy and any other big name signings for their own thing. Angle should be booked like Lesnar, maybe even managed by Heyman, and then just alternate their appearances so they don't have to run down Lesnar's number of dates too soon.

I'd prefer they held off bringing Hardy in until Punk has another one of his 'Wah, wah, I wanna be a heel' moments because Hardy is one of the few people the fans would boo Punk against.

Really in the short term this might be great on an exciting 'dream match' brief period, but the wrestling landscape will be as grim as it was during 2002 and 2003.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Roode's a great old-school heel, but I don't see him working in WWE.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Yeah, and The Dudley Boys as heels with Bubba talking shit to the fans would never work...

    ReplyDelete
  85. If WWE cares about Punk's input at all, they'll take a flyer on Joe and Aries.

    ReplyDelete
  86. IIRC when Punk was in TNA he got in a fight with AJ and TNA sided with AJ and Punk was gone soon after. Reason Punk hates them both.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Whatever they do please do not bring back Kennedy, good God.

    ReplyDelete
  88. What really brought TNA to its knees was the exorbitant licensing fees that they had to pay to Phil Collins for naming their PPV shows.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Sorry, 2013 Joe is nowhere near the same as 2005 Joe.

And besides, Triple H will never let him out of developmental with a body like that.

    ReplyDelete
  90. They just did Team 3D again last night!

    ReplyDelete
  91. His body sucks. Triple H would never let him out of developmental.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Both have improved a lot since then.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Ah, the TNA/RoH beef.

I almost wonder if the TNA invasion angle might be done by RoH...obviously the don't have the money to compete with WWE.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Actually WWE offered AJ Styles a contract of $75,000 and OVW (at the time) work, but he thought it was beneath him and he refused...his loss...

    ReplyDelete
  95. the story he told was that he could hypothetically have gone back with a surgery to his arm, but that he couldn't afford it, and wwe wouldn't hire him without the surgery- catch 22. He had Hep B, but that clears up if it's not a chronic thing.

the conspiracy theory is that he had Hep C, which would require retirement, but yeah, story as presented was that he just had enough BS vs potential to earn cash.

    ReplyDelete
  96. It was a $500 per week developmental deal and he didn't want to move his family. His wife was finishing college at didn't think it was worth the hassle as he could make more doing indies.

    ReplyDelete
  97. AJ is a fanatical Christian fundy who has said some inflammatory anti-gay remarks in the past. I could see that hurting his chances in WWE.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I think the better question is what awful sounding names do they give the TNA wrestlers?

    Samoa Joe = Ufulu Solafi
    Magnus = Mycroft Wellington
    AJ Styles = BoDean Trapen
    Bobby Roode = Archibald Bannister

    ReplyDelete
  99. I like Mycroft Wellington...

    ReplyDelete
  100. Hope Angle and Sting come over so we can finally get a dvd set for both.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Hey, I won't hear a bad word about Mycroft 'Beef' Wellington!

    ReplyDelete
  102. Modern Bryan is really more different but equal as a worker to me

    ReplyDelete
  103. I've done this before but here we go again

    AJ Styles= Boone Pickens
    Austin Aries= Jared Ellis
    Bobby Roode= Eric Mixon
    Chris Sabin= Blake Hollister
    Eric Young= Scruffy McGee
    Gunner= Rex Braddock
    Hernandez= Juan Guerra
    James Storm= Buck Swanson
    Jay Bradley= Justin Morton
    Kenny King= Malik Sanders
    Magnus= Peter Bellows
    Robbie E= Scott Reynolds
    Samoa Joe= Sivi Manu
    Velvet Sky= Jade Boggs

    ReplyDelete
  104. I dunno, I'll believe it when I see it.
Things do look shaky at the moment, but people have been saying for years that they would be gone "before the end of the year."
Maybe the late pay was the fault of Bruce Pritchard, who was no good with that type of thing, and maybe the cuts are for guys that they just had nothing for.
Or maybe they are in a death spiral.

    ReplyDelete
  105. HHH opens the show in the middle of the ring, announces the signed leftovers from TNA, then brings them out.

"OK Boys, line up and take your pedigree".

See, THIS way they get the whole burial over in 4 minutes, instead of me getting my hopes up for 3 months.

    ReplyDelete
  106. I've also heard that Kevin Dunn was against it (he's also a big part of the JR hate over the years).

    ReplyDelete
  107. That should be his gimmick. He has the face and demeanor of an ingnorant yokel already. They could have him cut heel promos on Ziggler for looking gay, then Ziggler beats him to show you should always BA*.

    ReplyDelete
  108. AJ Styles couldn't be Boon Pickens because it's way too close to T-Boone Pickens the oil magnate. You can use real people, but you need to be a touch more subtle.

    http://mizzouwire.missouri.edu/stories/2009/pickens-plan/images/full.jpg

    ReplyDelete
  109. I don't undestand why people always say guys like Sting and Styles won't work for WWE because of their beliefs, yet they work for the trashiest show on TV. TNA has beer guzzling, car battery electrocutions, knives, Mickie James, endless crotch shots during girls' matches, Taryn Terell, Taz calling guys "homos", everything else Taz says, Jeff Hardy, Austin Aries, Bad Influence, Christy Hemme (and her wardrobe), guys that blade on camera.........on and on.
WWE has Cena calling ADR "Alberto Del Poop."

    Which one is more offensive?

    ReplyDelete
  110. Even if Sting doesn't come over, you might get a DVD set for him anyway if he just retires. He doesn't have to be a member of the WWE roster for a DVD set as much as he just can't be working for the #2 wrestling company in North America.

    ReplyDelete
  111. AJ Styles= Wax Holcomb

    ReplyDelete
  112. I believe he was cut developmental when they were using Memphis. I know Daniel Bryan got cut from Memphis too

    ReplyDelete
  113. Bully as a singles star in WWE: Not gonna happen.

Why: His first shot at the main event, back during HHH's "reign" on RAW, right after the Dudleys were split. I'd be willing to bet HHH's still not happy about that botched table spot.

    Stupid? Yeah. Surprising? Nope.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Missing accomplished!

    ReplyDelete
  115. You're thinking of Teddy Hart that Punk got in a fight with.

    ReplyDelete
  116. No AJ Styles???? He's probably the most famous 'home made' TNA star out of all of them. He is pretty well known to fans who have ever acknowledge or watched TNA at one point or another (which I presume is a decent chunk of WWE fans).

I think Austin Aries could become a star as big if not bigger than Punk if they wanted to push him (which I doubt they would).

    ReplyDelete
  117. The second Phil Collins reference in the last three days... take a look at him now.

  118. Wow. I hadn't thought of it like that before. WWE is in Year 4 or 5 of the PG Era. TNA is friggin named for Tits 'N Ass. TNA has the crazy stuff you mentioned. WWE has kept it pretty clean (case in point: CM Punk looked like he was dying to say just one cuss word in his enraged and determined promo to Heyman last week... and fought himself to not do it).

How can anyone be morally objected to WWE? Intellectually, sure. But not morally.

  119. Because both guys have said something to that effect. Although I think Sting's other explanation would hold more water, that he was afraid of being shat on. Not that this stopped him from working for WCW after the Crow angle was ruined when he was beaten by Hogan and Bret Hart went on a powertrip, plus the shitty weak way he was booked afterwards, but I digress.

  120. AJ doesn't like to be away from his family so I cant see the WWE's travel schedule appealing to him.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Styles has stated numerous times that he has no interest in ever going to WWE.

    ReplyDelete
  122. HE wouldn't get shat on, just his duffel bag.

  123. AJ Styles? you can argue than he's bigger star than Punk & Bryan (when they signed by WWE). He's well known and even referenced in many wwe.com articles. He's the closest they can get to new age Shawn Michaels, has great matches with everyone. He's not so good on mic, but he cuts servicable promos.

Would love to see him there if he's willing to take a shot. He won't look out of place in big leagues.

I don't know about Sting (though I believe he's pretty religious), but AFAIK Styles' problem with WWE isn't a moral issue, but the fact that he just doesn't like how Vince runs his company. Specifically the brutal travel schedule and HHH/Taker/JBL's backstage bullshit. The guy just wants to go out and entertain people, TNA lets him do it with a minimum of hassle.

  125. Because those are all the things that appeal to AJ as a Southern conservative?

    ReplyDelete
  126. Low Ki was part of that too...look how that worked for him.

  127. AJ=Dirk Hickenbottom
    Aries= Crockett Tubbs
    Roode=Bobby Rogen
    Storm=Jed Paisley
    Magnus=Alastair Watson

  128. That I can get behind, but when it's the only game in town he might change his tune.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Haha...I like Boone Pickens, Mycroft Wellington and Blake Hollister.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Bret went on a power trip? As opposed to being at the center of the biggest controversy in wrestling history, and potentially the hottest act going?

    ReplyDelete
  131. I'm talking about the botched Starrcade finish. I'm being sarcastic. Sting lost the match. The finish was botched so bad they they had to have a re-do.

  132. Husky Harris?

    ReplyDelete
  133. It's the No FatassES Club. They're allowed to have one.

    ReplyDelete
  134. An Angle/Punk feud would be the shit.

    ReplyDelete
  135. WWE owns enough footage and has enough of Sting's peers under contract to make a documentary DVD - but I'm sure they'd prefer to actually have Sting involved if possible.

    ReplyDelete
  136. what are you talking about? wasn't the story that Low Ki decided to quit although the WWE would have liked to employ him? he even won the NXT season he was part of.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Just realized yesterday that T. Boone Pickens gets referenced by name in American Psycho. I guess I never really paid attention to hw long he'd been relevant.

    ReplyDelete
  138. I'd bring him as a part timer, I'm talking only a few dates for a year, and end of that year give him a nice hof program with a final match. Then either have the guy as a manager, trainer or agent with maybe a big match once a year if he'd like. A guy that broken shouldn't be wrestling on free tv, let alone every damn week. TNA are at the peak of their irresponsibility with Kurt Angle.

    ReplyDelete
  139. The guy could slip on a bar of soap and people would still blame the WWE for it.

    ReplyDelete
  140. The idea of Angle coming back to work a bunch of new programs in WWE is awesome, but I think it's only because I picture 2001 Angle, not the current version.

AJ would probably be forced to change his name because of the chick AJ and I'm sure it would be something ridiculous.

The Bully Ray character could be cool in WWE as a "Heyman Guy". We saw just how serious they were about bringing back the tag team division, so the Dudleyz returning with all the signature spots doesn't excite me.

Jeff Hardy could spice up the upper card, if he can stay clean.

Storm & Roode would be cool as an ass-kicking tag team, or as brawling opponents for a guy like Sheamus.

    ReplyDelete
  141. He'd go if TNA went under and WWE offered him a large chunk of cash.
    Money talks, people walk.

    ReplyDelete
  142. I saw part of an interview with Sting once, where he mentioned that he was upset by how WWE treated most of the WCW guys who came over. He specifically mentioned when Rock and Booker T first appeared on-camera together and Rock's reaction was "Who the hell are you?" (or something similar, I forget the exact line).

    ReplyDelete
  143. Not necessarily. If he's in financially in good shape and hasn't blown his money the way Flair has, he might just not be interested. He's always struck me as a guy who's pretty secure in his own skin and doesn't feel a need to constantly 'prove himself'

    ReplyDelete
  144. I agree. What I mean is that I don't think that Sting needs to be an active competitor for WWE in order for them to bring him in for a DVD. I could see them maybe doing a tribute on Raw or something to celebrate his career and promote the DVD and that's that.

    ReplyDelete
  145. "Well let's see. Out of all the WCW guys, Booker and Flair were the only ones that got any kind of decent run"

yeah that's bullshit. first of all define WCW guys. you clearly don't mean guys that came in during the Invasion as Flair wasn't part of that group. Nor do you mean guys that came straight from WCW to WWE, as you're missing Jericho, Show, Guerrero, etc. You can't even mean guys who came over after WCW folded as Nash, Goldberg, Runnels, etc aren't included.

What specific group of WCW guys are you claiming that didn't get decent runs?

Even if you are meaning guys that came over anytime in 2001 ( a weirdly specific point of reference)

The following wrestlers also made it to greater heights in WWF than WCW

Chavo Guerrero, Billy Kidman, Torrie Wilson, Stacy Keibler & Shane Helms

The idea that allt eh WCW guys were buried is ludicrous, the WWF had a full roster, the brought in a load of talent from WCW & ECW, some fitted in and did well (RVD, Rhyno, Dreamer, ETC) Many were either not good enough or didn't fit. What could Johnny Stamboli do that was different to other guys already in the WWF like Test, Gunn etc that would make them push Stamboli over every other guy?

  146. Absolute "D'Oh!" moment, here - I can't believe that NONE of us thought of teaming Styles with Heyman:

    http://whatculture.com/wwe/5-tna-stars-who-could-make-it-in-wwe.php/2

How incredible would it be for Heyman to introduce Styles to the WWE audience by naming him "The REAL Best In The World"?

    ReplyDelete
  147. I'd want Angle back only so his drunken tweets can show up during Raw and PPVs.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Cena and poop jokes are more offensive.

As Jerry Seinfeld once said: "It offends me as a comedian".
