Why is Vickie Guerrero still here?

Is the reason Vickie Guerrero is still employed and featured prominently on TV because she has dirt on Vince Mcmahon/the WWE that could cause more problems than it's worth to let her go? The girl can't act, she frequently fluffs her lines, she gets heat for all the wrong reasons, and she's generally awful to watch. I remember the BODers jumping to her defence a year back but c'mon guys, it's time to get real. Stephanie or whoever else could do her job and do it 100x better.

I want your honest opinion - Why is Vickie Guerrero still employed?

As you may know, my wife patiently tolerates three hours of RAW every Monday night and she plays around on the laptop or whatever while I'm reviewing it.  She is a total non-fan who knows nothing about wrestling and doesn't particularly follow the storylines except to occasionally humor me, but she generally will have opinions on three things:

1)  She thinks Titus O'Neil is funny and attractive.
2)  She knows CM Punk and AJ Lee and usually enjoys hearing their promos.
3)  She fucking hates, with a white-hot passion, Vickie Guerrero.  Like whenever she's on TV she immediately gets annoyed and declares how much she wishes someone would shut her mouth for her.
And that is why she's still employed and probably always will be.

  1. If she had that kind of dirt on Vince, would her role at WWE really be the best way to extort him?

    ReplyDelete
  2. Plus the whole "sorry our ridiculous obsession with big wrestlers played a prominent role in the death of your husband so please don't sue us" thing.

    ReplyDelete
  3. That also explains why Titus O'Neil is employed too. Lonely housewives.

    ReplyDelete
  4. "Stephanie or whoever else could do her job and do it 100x better."

No points awarded, God have mercy on your soul, thank you drive through.

  5. I quite like Titus o neil as well, he's improved leaps and bounds since his terrible stint on NXT. If WWE was really smart they'd invest a lot into the guy and try to get a really good character out of him....I mean they made a useless lunk like Skip Sheffield somewhat over, who's to say they couldn't do the same for Titus?

    ReplyDelete
  6. davidbonzaisaldanamontgomeryJuly 4, 2013 at 5:38 PM

I quite like her. Yeah, she flubbed quite a bit in her first few years (understandable, it wasn't like she had a whole lot of experience), but now knows how to play her role really well, and gets more heat with two words than just about anyone on the roster. I think she's quite improved and does well whatever is asked of her.

    Plus, this was amazing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WV6Q2TJkwi4

  7. I think Vickie is far more tolerable and likeable than Stephanie! I didn't mind whiny spoilt brat Stephanie from a back in the day, but the 'empowered' independent super woman Steph is the worst thing ever to grace WWE TV, if she was a regular fixture on the show I'd switch off.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Will your theory be shot down when Titus gets released?

    ReplyDelete
  9. I disagree with the notion that she gets heat "for all the wrong reasons." While I honestly believe both would have been fine on their own, she did a whole lot to help the careers of Edge and especially Dolph Ziggler. And generally speaking, she does a good enough job of rallying the fans behind the face that she's up against.

Personally, I prefer her in the manager role opposed to the authority role, because I think she's better in one semi-long segment (like at ringside during a match) than multiple shorter segments.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Occam's razor: Eddie died and she needed to support her family.

I hope she at least has fun with the role because I fully believe Vince and company have put her in abusive and at times out right mean stories thinking she'd be the one to walk away.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Vickie gets heat for the wrong reasons? She's *trying* to be an annoying, screechy heel with delusions of grandeur. Stephanie is the same, but far more obnoxious, because she's booked as a face.

    ReplyDelete
  12. "The girl can't act"..... bwahahahaha! Who CAN act on that roster? Punk, Rock, Vince, Foley, Henry, Heyman, and... and... I'm not sure. Cena has the acting chops of the worst soap opera actor and he gets heat for a lot of the wrong reasons, too. Maybe they should drop him? Don't get me wrong--many of these guys can cut strong promos when they aren't over-produced and many more could deliver their lines with conviction if they were given at least ONE day to learn their lines or beats. But one need only look at Monday's diva segment to see how bad pitiful acting can get on this roster.

And like a couple others and I contended in a previous post, Vicki gets plenty of intentional heat for the right reasons. She knows what she's doing out there (while Stephanie "the hulk" McMahon is unaware of how pompous and annoying she is as a "face"). She was the most consistently over heel from 2008 to 2012. On top of that, her acting is serviceable enough where I genuinely feel sorry for her character over the last month with panic and confusion portrayed. She might be misused with her role on the sidelines. Bottom line: she was one of the good ones.

    ReplyDelete
  13. We all do weird things for our significant others. If Scott ever does the Titus "Gator Bark" at his wife's request, I'll respect him even more.

    ReplyDelete
  14. So...to bring in the casual fan...we need...CM Punk...and AJ...versus...Titus O'Neil and Vickie?

    Book it, Teddy!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Agreed! What purpose did it serve to have Stephanie come down and brow beat AJ Lee? One could argue that she's a heel and so it's okay that she was taken down a few notches. But then, seconds later, she does THE EXACT SAME THING to Kaitlyn -- who is supposed to be the fierce face that's getting her revenge.

And how about last year when she interrupted Paul Heyman's promo, telling him that under no circumstances is he to mention her kids in a promo.....only to seconds later bring up the fact that Heyman's kids are ashamed to have him as a father.

It's one thing to be a hypocrite, but it's without any awareness whatsoever. Not even the announcers or Superstars can mention these double standards.

    ReplyDelete
  16. As I was typing my response, a few others echoed the same points. I apologize if I was too repetitive.

    ReplyDelete
  17. How does Occum's Razor explain Vince keeping her around in an on camera role?

    ReplyDelete
  18. I think the real question is why is Brad Maddox still here?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Not qualified for a behind the scenes role and Vince figuring she'd have quit long ago. He hires with the idea it looks good in the aftermath but can't fire because he looks like the dick he usually is if he fires the Widow Guerrero.

    ReplyDelete
  20. That's why all of my posts are quick touts!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Since when did Vince start caring about looking like a dick?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Very true. But he tried to keep up appearances ever since Linda's been running wild in CT political races.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Plus that new "husky" voice is...not sexy. Whatever HHH is pumping her with, please stop.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Maddox is funny and cute and oh gosh his little eyes *blushes*

    ReplyDelete
  25. The only person to do her "job" better was Foley. The problem is not Vicky who can get crazy good heat, the problem was with the "job"

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'll respect him if he gives her a Bronco Buster

    ReplyDelete
  27. Are you saying that Scott's wife is lonely?

    ReplyDelete
  28. well that's the reason why she chose to stay. Not why Vince kept her around

    ReplyDelete
  29. Then how are they going to get more girls to fill out the Divas roster in 2035?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Oh... oh, god, I just figured it out.

Triple H never really got over Chyna.

    Hang on, everyone.

    ReplyDelete
  31. What was it that Kevin Nash said about people getting over? Something like the guys want to be them, and the girls want to fuck them?

Wouldn't you say that that's true for Vickie?

    ReplyDelete
  32. He's gay, but he doesn't want to be gay, so he has to bang something that is technically a woman.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'm saying that Scott's wife is frustrated at being unable to rationally resolve her sexual attraction to Vickie Guerrero, and projects her affection towards Titus as a coping mechanism.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I remember when they were in Houston for RAW a year or two ago and when Cena and Vickie were in the ring they couldn't even start the segment because the crowd wouldn't shut up for Vickie.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yeah, it's like a Mark Henry situation. I give Vickie chops for sticking with it because Lawler calling her fat all the time is just downright mean.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I HATE that stupid bark. It's so obnoxious and non-dog like. Someone above called it the "Gator Bark"; is that a thing I'm unaware of?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Scream09_HartKillerJuly 4, 2013 at 7:37 PM

I used to watch pay per views with my high school girlfriends family - they were a mixture of casual fans, marks and stupid people. One of them wore an Austin 3:16 shirt that hardly fit him anymore and when last I saw him, 5 years later, was still wearing that very shirt. One of them wore a hunting jacket with a shaved head and goatee, and walked with an exaggerated strut he called his bad mother fucker walk. One of them looked like he'd been lost in the woods without a razor for 6 months, earning the name "beardman". The rest weren't notable. But they'd repeat the stupidest wrestling rumors - Undertaker stopped doing the tombstone because his knees were bad, Stephanie was really married to Test, Kurt Angle was Stephanie's college boyfriend, the nWo is coming (this is summer 2000), and, of course, Kane isn't Undertakers real brother, the fake Undertaker is Undertaker's real brother and he became the real Undertaker in 1994 because the real Undertaker's wife died. They'd also call upcoming spots to show how much they knew about wrestling - like "watch this, suplex" - and 7 or 8 moves later, bang, suplex.

Anyway, whenever I think of these people, I think of them getting really pissed off about Vickie Guerrero, and that's probably why she's around.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Oh like any of us wouldn't hit that. (Assuming being single and such.)

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'd hit it, then be in charge of talent relations

    ReplyDelete
  40. If she had blackmail material on Vince in some fashion, we'd have heard about it by now.
Plus, she would not be putting herself out there to be mocked over her weigh and such, since that is kind of counterproductive for blackmail. Unless Vicky is a hardcore masochist who gets off sexually on being verbal abuse....
As others have said; she probably got her job as a favor given the horrible circumstances of her husband's death and Vince wanting to look like a good guy to the press. The fact that she has lasted as long as she has is probably a result of Vicky being willing to do just about anything Vince asks of her and her being a massive heel magnet which justifies keeping her around.

    ReplyDelete
  41. This always brings me back to that episode of The Office in which they debated whether Hillary Swank is hot or not. Kevin said it perfectly:

"We're not talking about whether I'd have sex with her or not, but whether she's hot or not".

We're men, we'll pretty much have sex with any woman. Single, married, whatever.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Did you just address the possibility of Vickie having blackmail material on Vince as a serious thing? I think the e-mailer was just making what we call an exaggerated statement to explain her role in his eyes.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Um, that kinda hits you.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Here's how to tell the difference between real heat and X-Pac heat, since this emailer seems misinformed:

Do audiences react when a babyface puts the offending heel in their place?

With Vickie that answer has ALWAYS been yes, which means she gets nuclear, legitimate, totally healthy heat.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Vince likes two types of people. The first type of person is the one who will call him on his bullshit, won't back down, and generally carries himself like an arrogant prick -- basically a personality type exactly like Vince himself; this is where your Shawn Michaels, Bret Harts, and Hulk Hogans come in. The second type of person is the one who is willing to absorb as much abuse as Vince can summon up from the rancid, scarred recesses of his mind; this is where Jim Ross, Howard Finkel, and most of the divas come in.

I'll give you one guess as to which group Vickie falls into.

    ReplyDelete
  46. With that screech and henpecking Eddie into an early grave, it's gotta be the former.

    ReplyDelete
  47. This

I made this point when the Vickie thing came up last year but she is unbelievably good at keeping an audience in the palm of her hand. The way she uses Excuse Me to keep the audience desperate to see her shut up is brilliant. It's a character thing with her as much as a catchphrase (much as What was with Austin before he turned face again)

Edge, a man who was always regarded as one of the best wrestling minds of his generation, has often spoken of just how good Vickie is.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Because he had "Beef Mode" written on his tights?

    ReplyDelete
  49. The real question is why she's the GM instead of a manager - she's a ridiculous heat machine that understands how to help a wrestler get over, and she's in a position that doesn't take advantage of any of that.

    ReplyDelete
  50. davidbonzaisaldanamontgomeryJuly 5, 2013 at 12:54 AM

She was hotter when she wasn't as ripped as HHH

    ReplyDelete
  51. Still completely bangable.

Keep in mind, she's a MILF now.

    ReplyDelete
  52. We need to retire the term "X-Pac heat". It's basically become a synonym for "legitimate heel heat but the person using it doesn't enjoy the wrestler personally, so he's trying to insult them even though the performer is just doing their job (and doing it quite well)."

    ReplyDelete
  53. MaffewOfBotchamaniaJuly 5, 2013 at 2:48 AM

I love it when fans say ''I hate her, but for the wrong reasons'' as it usually means ''she's not a cool heel like CM Punk so I don't like her.''

    ReplyDelete
  54. this. this. this.

    ReplyDelete
  55. one thing that is really unfortunate though is how "broken down" she looks these days. I have seen the last Edge dvd yesterday and was shocked at how different she looked in 2008.

not sure if it's age taking its toll or "the business".

    ReplyDelete
  56. It has something to do with where he played college sportsball

    ReplyDelete
  57. Take your mom for instance... no one would claim that she is hot, or even attractive... but who HASN'T hit that?

Feel free to sub in your wife/girlfriend/sister/dog in that sentence if you find that more offensive...

    ReplyDelete
  58. There was an in between phase where she wasn't on TV much, but looked amazing when she was... 2005-2007ish I think... now she looks awful and is purposely trying to show how much bigger she is than the rest of the Divas to assert her dominance.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I've said for a LONG time that Chyna was who he really loved... but that he loved himself more and fucking Steph would get him to the top of THIS BUSINESS so he chose that over love... apparently he has found a way to have his cake and eat it too.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I thought the same thing about Chavo... having him job to Hornswaggle week in and week out was done just to get him to quit but it didn't work for a LONG time.

    ReplyDelete
  61. She generates heat that thousands of wrestlers wish they could get

    ReplyDelete
  62. Considering my mom works the same corner your mom does, i'd say they're both meth looking whores.

BTW, Feel free to sub in your wife/girlfriend/sister/cat/daughter/grandma in that sentence if you find that more offensive... ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  63. THAT WAS MEAN!!!

    ReplyDelete
  64. That's the amazing thing about her: she can get nuclear heat(as Scott refers to it), which very few talkers in the business, past or present, could pull off.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Titus has charisma for sure. I'd like to see them do SOMETHING with him.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Vickie is a great heel and wwe is crazy for not pushing the ptp

    ReplyDelete
  67. Is that a real picture? That is quite gross.

I actually thought the bratty, younger Stephanie was cute in a bigger girl, "yeah I'd do her" kind of way. But once HHH started making her juice up, which is not just a theory; just looking and listening to her it's clear that she is doing something that is not natural.

I mean she's already pretty tall for a chick. But now he's got these gross fake boobs, plus shes all buff now, and the worst of all is of course the hard to listen to, man voice.

If anyone ever wondered if HHH was really attracted to Chyna just look how he's tried to make his wife, heir to his beloved wrestling company look more and more like Chyna every day.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Wait a minute. Your wife "knows" CM Punk and AJ Lee? Like personally knows them or just has seem them on TV a lot and enjoys their promos? And if she personally knows them why are we not talking about this more?

    ReplyDelete
  69. Did you momma not teach you how to spell either or was she to busy rubbing your cat's nipples in between whore shifts?

    ReplyDelete
  70. If you watch the Eddie Guerrero DVD, it's pretty clear that the McMahons really liked Eddie, and that Vicki was incredibly appreciative of the McMahons. Eddie brings up things like one of the McMahons staying at the hospital all night with him when he broke his arm (a week or so into his contract), and you can see that once Eddie cleaned up, he and Vicki had nothing but love and loyalty to the McMahon family.

Say what you will about Vince McMahon, he is loyal to people who show him that kind of loyalty. I would guess that the first few appearances she had were probably just a favor to get her some income and help take care of the family, and because she turned out to be a natural, they kept her on. I'd also be very surprised if she isn't one of the best-liked people backstage.

    ReplyDelete
  71. The Vicki Guerrero shit has annoyed me since day one. Whenever I do watch I have to smother the urge to delete the show on my DVR whenever she is around. The "EXCUSE ME" cheap heat is maddening and got old *really* fucking quick. But Vince likes that stuff, and her husband died on his watch, so she'll be around until she decides to leave.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I totally get what people mean about X-Pac heat, it's just that I (like others) don't necessarily agree who deserves that label. X-Pac heat just refers to someone getting a negative reaction as opposed to "heat," which I think is different. Case in point for me personally, Vicki Guerrero's actions make me what to not watch the show, where Brock Lesnar's actions make me want to see him get his ass kicked. Simple as that.

    ReplyDelete
  73. If WWE gave a damn about tag teams, the Prime-Times Players would be something big if they just have them a chance.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I think it was Scott that put it pretty well years ago regarding Three H's -- If you like fucking buffed chicks in the ass, you're probably gay (paraphrasing)...

    ReplyDelete
  75. davidbonzaisaldanamontgomeryJuly 5, 2013 at 12:23 PM

Exactly. Let's also put X-Pac heat in perspective: Crowds would chant X-PAC SUCKS in matches/shows that he didn't even appear in.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Yeah I sent this in. She's terrible and honestly think there's more to it than the fact that she draws super heat. She's one the people you hope doesn't come up on the screen when your non wrestling-fan buddies are with you, because everyone's reaction is always the same: "WTF are you watching dude?" Fuck Vickie

    ReplyDelete
  77. Clearly she did teach me how to spell since there are no spelling errors present... did I use "to" instead of "too" somewhere? If so that is a grammar error as opposed to a spelling error... or did your mom not pull one of the multiple cocks out of her mouth long enough to explain the difference to you.

    ReplyDelete
  78. True, it was a grammar error.

Mom, get the cocks out of your mouth damn it!!

    ReplyDelete
  79. I guess most of us disagree with you since we think she does good work as a heel.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Yeah I suppose there's a fine line between doing good work as a heel and just being irritating, and we are on different sides of that line

    ReplyDelete
  81. X-Pac was also the only WWF guy to get booed during the Invasion.

Guys like Billy Gunn and Albert were getting cheered, and he wasn't.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Another point I'll make is, when has Vickie ever got her comeuppance as a heel? Is she even really a heel? Because all I've seen her do is book matches (not being particularly favourable toward other heels), or have HHH/Vince step in and make her decisions for her. What kind of heel is she? Doesn't work for me

    ReplyDelete
  83. You're right, I want to be Vickie Guerrero, while my girlfriend wants to fuck her.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Well, this is a case that falls more on the booking team than the performer/wrestler. She can still draw instant heat and paired with an up and coming heel, they will immediately get more heat because of her. You're right, right now, she's a quasi-heel authority figure. You can't blame her for that though regardless of what you think of her overall

    ReplyDelete
  85. Dude, I totally sympathize. Screw what these idiots think. Anyone who thinks Vicki is worthy of being on TV is either:

A.) A fan of Eddie and feels sorry for her.

2.) Is trying to be Anti-Smark so their opinion is different.

I personally have never watched an entire Vicki segment I will FFWD her more than anyone in WWE or TNA and I can't be the only one.

    ReplyDelete
  86. This is a great point that the Vicki lovers never address. She's not a wrestler. The purpose of a heel is to make you pay to see a face beat them. If she doesn't wrestle, she's pointless.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Or C, they actually think she's doing a good job. We don't all share the same opinions you know.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Mr. Fuji, Bobby Heenan, Slick, The Wizard, etc, etc, etc. Managers don't wrestle. Occassionally, Heenan used to do it, but then he threw his back and out and stopped. I don't know what you're talking about.

Heel managers use their heat to pass it onto one of their wrestlers. She did that in spades and should be given some new talent. She's stuck in no man's land.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Exactly. It baffles me that people don't get that. There have been plenty of times I didn't like a worker, but thought they did good heel work.

A good example of why X-Pac heat is a real thing: look at Ryan on Gut Check last night, dude got booed out of the building. Does that mean he's a great heel?

    ReplyDelete
  90. Because a manager has to get someone ELSE over instead of annoying people with screetching.

    ReplyDelete
  91. All those guys had wrestling training and took bumps ALL the time to put the faces over.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Vickie got embarrassed so many times by faces when she was with Edge and with Ziggler. You may not agree, but she helped Ziggler get some cred as a heel early on when everyone just harped over the dude's name. She's not a classic manager because she wasn't a wrestler, but to say she's useless and only screeches is too far to the other extreme.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Apparently this isn't a very popular opinion...

    ReplyDelete
  94. X-Pac heat is still a legitimate term. There's a difference between a person that you want to watch get taken down a peg, and a person who just makes you change the channel regardless of what's happening.

That said, in reality, that's a very rare thing that people constantly mislabel.

    ReplyDelete
  95. If she had that kind of dirt on Vince, would her daughter have gotten released from developmental years ago?

    ReplyDelete
  96. Anthony RatcliffeJuly 5, 2013 at 5:22 PM

I don't even know what that is...

    ReplyDelete
  97. Anthony RatcliffeJuly 5, 2013 at 5:24 PM

Her one trick, "cover the mic and speak in sotto voce" ain't working.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Anthony RatcliffeJuly 5, 2013 at 6:13 PM

I thought the daughter asked for her release. Or am I thinking of Lacey Von Erich?

    ReplyDelete
  99. So Vickie saying "excuse me" to an awesome reaction is cheap heat, but Daniel Bryan yelling "yes!" and getting a huge reaction is proof that he should be pushed to the top? I'm not saying that's the argument you're making, but I don't agree with your point. It's not as if people are silent when Vickie's out there, except when she says those two words. They're reacting to her the entire time.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Anytime someone "asks for their release", it is a firing where the company allows the other party t save face.

    ReplyDelete
  101. She gets her comeuppance when she gets viciously ripped apart on the mic. What are you expecting, Cena to AA her through a table?

She's gotten it from other heels... see: Edge. And it's normally some pretty vicious, awful stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I'm bumping the "Steph is a much more shrill, annoying witch" discussion to the top. I realized the other day, she reminds me of the daughter from Hardcore Pawn. Just with much more hitting the gym and all. Her character is a shrill witch that no one could ever possible like, and is prone to emotional outbursts. And if both of them disappeared tomorrow, their respective businesses would probably go up about 25%.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Forget Edge and 10 years ago, we're talking about Vickie as a heel now. Who was the last person that viciously ripped her apart on the mic? I don't think she's presented as either a heel or face at the moment, she just makes random decisions (often rendered pointless) and the crowd boos her no matter what she does.

As a manager, yes she can work and has lended heel credibility to people like Ziggler. But what's the use for her now exactly? She's doing the worst work of her career

    ReplyDelete
  104. From the sounds of it Eddie was the life of the 'party' backstage, just a generally fun and positive guy to be around. I'm not surprised Vince and co wanted to keep him happy and to keep him around, he probably made coming to work a lot more fun for a lot of the wrestlers

    ReplyDelete
  105. When was the last time a babyface put Vickie "in her place"? Is she really a heel at the moment? Or just someone that gets booed no matter what he does?

    ReplyDelete
  106. AJ did so repeatedly last fall.

They experimented with her not being a heel but in the end they always go back to her being intentionally booed.

    ReplyDelete
  107. She's not being booked as a heel at the moment though. She just makes random decisions that don't necessarily favour faces or heels and then has someone show up and render her decision pointless.

What I'm saying is she is currently pointless in TV. No point having that irritating voice and line-fluffing going on if it isn't helping storylines/other heels progress.

    ReplyDelete
  108. That I can agree with. They definitely aren't using her properly right now. They seem hamstrung to this "must have an on-screen authority figure" trope.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Actually, the barking is representative of Titus being a member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity. The Omegas refer to themselves as "Q-Dogs," and the barking usually accompanies their hand gesture (shown in the picture)

    ReplyDelete
  110. Ah, yes, her brief "Hot Tina Fey" phase
