28 Signs You're a Pro Wrestling Fan

A lot of these apply to blog commenters, of that I'm certain.

  1. That cat is hardcore.

  2. I found the list to be kind of stupid really...

  3. Pretty spot-on for most of them, I think.

    E-C-Dub! E-C-Dub! E-C-Dub!

  4. Guilty on (almost) all of them.

  5. Pretty funny, I always enjoy these sort of lists,

"You think everything is a work. EVERYTHING.

Seriously, when is Kaufman going to show up and finish the angle already?"

There was a time where I legit thought his death was a work,
Andy Kaufman = Jim Carey....Just saying

    Lol That list was awesome!

  7. Good list.

    Still fucking despise Buzzfeed, though.

  8. I actually don't mind the word fake. I prefer other words, but I won't really rage because fake is accurate, they're not two guys going out there and actually beating each other up.

Honestly, I'd prefer fictional, but I'm a highbrow artiste about wrestling, so that's me.

P.S. And scripted doesn't seem accurate either, because great wrestling is usually improvised.

  9. My initial reaction to that Orton thing with the "fan" was a work.

  10. If you allow "half-points", I might have made ten. I'll double check later... or just forget.

  11. it's not really the word that's annoying, it's the way it's said sometimes

  12. My issue with the word "fake" is the lack of understanding behind it. When they say "fake," they don't mean "predetermined" (which, I think, IS the perfect word to describe it). Many people really do mean stuff like "that chair is fake," "that table is fake," and the like.

  13. Words have as much meaning as you let them have. Look at the adoption of queer, freak and nigger.

  14. I toyed with the possibility when WWE provided a link to the fan video (because they normally avoid giving any attention whatsoever to jumpers, for good reason), but the one that really made me laugh was the "heel turn" one. When I'm having a series of bad days or I feel like I've really been screwed over, I'll joke "Eff it, I'm turning heel."

  15. It's a good sign that they're ignorant and know nothing (TM Ygritte).

And I don't like predetermined. I feel that the cooperative and story-based elements are a more essential part of wrestling then X is gonna win.

Hell, I think cooperative is a good word to describe wrestling.

  16. Yeah but also depends on context, delivery, etc

  17. I've seen more weddings on WWE tv than anywhere else, including real life. I find this disturbing, but not shocking.

    ReplyDelete
  18. 12/28 for me. I must be a wrestling fan!

  19. I like that one too. I absolutely hate a certain member of my family. I've always thought about friending her for 3 or 4 months and then turning on her at some event. Steel chair to her head would just be the beginning! Yeah, I know I need help...

  20. Who says that wrestling needs to be defined by the fact that it's predetermined? But in the context of the fact that both guys go in there knowing the result of the match, "predetermined" is pretty much the best way to sum it up. That isn't to say that there isn't more to wrestling than the fact that they know who will win, but it's an accurate description. Hell, every sort is cooperative to a certain degree.

  21. It's not an inaccurate descriptor, but I think there are more accurate ones.

I like fictional. Because I think the problem people have with it is that it "pretends" to be real. By calling it fictional, maybe people will get that it's just that fiction like TV or books or comics or video games.

  22. True. But anybody who's going to look down on you because you like wrestling is probably somebody whose opinion shouldn't mean much to you. And if they're a friend/loved one...they should understand and look past it. And if they can't, you probably shouldn't be friends with that person.

  23. They didn't include the 2nd Ultimate Warrior legend.

  24. Also "acting like Randy Savage at a high school/college graduation when 'Pomp and Circumstance' is playing" applies to me too, but yeah-14/28 for me.

  25. I can't walk by an A-frame ladder to this day without the urge to slow climb it and talk about climbing "rung by damn rung."
