Daniel Bryan & AJ Part Deux

>
> With Daniel Bryan going up against the McMahons, is there any chance we can get a Daniel Bryan/AJ reconcillation?
>
> If AJ is going to after the Diva show participants, you could add Stephanie in the middle to protect "WWE property." This goes in line with Stephanie's seemingly forgotten bullying of AJ a month ago.
>
> You also end up with two useful side-effects:
> 1. Decent character development for AJ by having her going from doe-eyed girl pining for Daniel to dumping him at the altar so she could be corporate to finally helping him out.
> 2. Someone who can pop Stephanie one - well other than Randy Orton.
>
> Really Daniel & AJ have the same complaint. They don't have the right look and therefore aren't respected by corporate. Plus AJ being the first to step up against HHH would be a lot of fun.

Certainly not the worst idea. I can see them going that way, even with Punk and AJ.

  1. It would make a little sense given the Steph/A.J. interactions from a few months back. Of course I don't expect creative to remember that, but if they do, kudos.

I see Stephanie getting in the ring to wrestle AJ in the near future. I don't see her getting into the shape she's in for no reason. At the very least, Stephanie will come out and put AJ in her place because GOD forbid someone try and get over on their own. She is "Daddy's little girl" you know.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I said this on the Raw thread, but AJ "crossing the line" in as the first person to try and help Bryan would get a HUGE pop. Then as the Shield surrounds her, Dolph finally grows a set and runs in to fight. (Follow that with Big Show and a revived Bryan helping Ziggler clear the ring, and the crowd would probably be shitting themselves at that point.)

So yeah, you don't move into anything "romantic" with AJ, but you have her reunite as friends with the two storyline exes to take on the Corporation. That's three young stars (and also Big Show) that the storyline would be putting over huge.

  4. " I don't see her getting into the shape she's in for no reason." Really? Its in the pre-nup with HHH, she has to work out. He only likes manly looking women.

  5. Here, have a +1 for making me laugh.

    ReplyDelete
  6. It would be a nice nod to past storylines, but I don't think the dynamic is going to mesh as well. AJ is clearly positioned as a heel in storyline purposes, and what's more, the AJ/Bryan tandem was predicated on the Savage-Elizabeth paradigm that no longer has any play creatively. They could take it in a different direction perhaps, but I don't think it's worth the effort to be honest since we'd be adding crappy Divas matches to the primary focus of the promotion.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I think Bryan is better off on his own at this point. They were very good together but to me that ship has sailed.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I don't think you have to re-couple A.J. with Bryan or Ziggler, really. A handshake gesture of "making peace" would probably elevate her even more for the fans, since she'd be seen as an ally, rather than an accessory.

  9. Some people just like to get in shape for their own health and appearance....

I understand this. Really I do, but I see this leading up to Stephanie getting in the ring to wrestle AJ.

  11. It amuses me that people think AJ's speech means she's turning babyface. Have any of you actually paid attention to how WWE has booked female wrestlers since they started the 'Divas' division? If there's a confrontation between an actual woman 'wrestler' vs. some crappy model/actress wannabe, it's always the wrestler who is booked as the heel.

Remember the Diva Search? Just like Total Divas, it brought extra attention to a bunch of talentless bimbos who were out there to be famous, not to become wrestlers. When Trish Stratus came out on RAW and mocked all of them, we all cheered but as far as the storyline was written, Trish was still considered the heel.

Speaking of heel Trish - remember Christy Hemme? Trish was the woman's champion - but their feud was build around that the idea that Trish was jealous of Christy. Cause you know - in a wrestling promotion being the wrestling champion isn't as big an honor as getting your freckles airbrushed out by Playboy.

Seems like Total Divas is being built around the Bellas. This whole thing probably ends with one of them beating AJ for the Divas championship at NOC...

    ReplyDelete
  12. I disagree - not because I think Steph wouldn't be up for returning to the ring, but because I don't think AJ is turning babyface anytime soon.

I think Steph just downvoted you.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I love this idea. No need to bring romance into this.

What I don't dig is Big Show playing a role here. I've been sick of the guy since 2004.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I'm such a mark.

I really thought AJ was dating Dolph Ziggler but WIkipedia says nothing of that fashion.

    The fuck?

    ReplyDelete
  16. I doubt there's going to be a Bryan/AJ recouncilation anytime soon. In fact her "pipebombshell" promo basically called that relationship kayfabe with her line about the Bellas "sucking up to the right people" referring to Cena and Bryan. Besides since the rest of the storyline is playing out on Total Divas a couple months from now we don't know how much of the "real" April Jeanette we are going to see portrayed within that show.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Well, this depends on who they're positioning her against. If it's AJ vs Natalya, then sure I can see them trying to keep AJ heel. (Even though, honestly, the crowds could give half a shit about Natalya. Bret Hart himself could manage her every match and I don't think she could get consistent support after how much of a boring lady doofus they've made her out to be for years.)

But if this is leading to AJ vs the bellas, then dude they're turning AJ face. The Bellas are lifetime heels and that's that. They could save a drowning puppy on Raw and the fans would still hate their guts. So if AJ's feuding with them, then AJ's the face.

To me, the thing on Monday is probably a way of integrating AJ into Total Divas Season 2.

That promo almost turned her babyface. The WWE is going to have to work to turn her back heel.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I understand what you're saying -- I prefer it be Mark Henry -- but when Big Show finally defies HHH, the crowd is going to go apeshit.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Same here on Big Show, but holy crap that crowd on Monday was hot for him. And as much as I'm sick of him, I have to admit his "acting" is about as good as it gets in WWE. Take a look at Monday— dude was awesome in conveying how badly he wanted to rip HHH's head off. Compare that to Dolph, who kinda stood there with a pouty face.

As much as we're tired of seeing him, I understand why WWE keeps going to the well with Show— he's really learned how to do this shit.

Anyway, I think Show could work here if he A) Plays the background role to Dolph and Bryan, and lets them get the major hero spots, and B) Serves as the giant cannon fodder for the Corporation in big tag matches and stuff. We'll see.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Anyone feel like this Corporation with Shield/ Bryan & babyfaces thing is building to a sweet traditional Survivor Series match?

As far as AJ and Bryan pairing again, I think that would be confusing what with Bryan and his girlfriend doing Total Divas every week. But I like the idea below about AJ being the first to cross the line etc and they dont necessarily have to become lovers again

    ReplyDelete
  22. Probably not if they want to push the e show. It seems more likely to me his bella would turn face since they could spin it into the e show (which seems like a big hit for now).

    ReplyDelete
  23. I thought that too with how they act on Twitter.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Interesting point. This thought never crossed my mind. I think putting him with AJ would make Bryan seem to "miscard" at this point. Let him have a long chase of the heels to firmly supplant his role as top player, at that point if you want v to revisit the AJ story, be my guest.

Just think that since this is his first run as the top guy, he should be the sole focus within the storyline

    ReplyDelete
  25. Yeah, I don't exactly dislike the guy, I just would rather see newer guys in the limelight. He'll be fine in a supporting role to back up Bryan and whoever else (hopefully Ziggler and AJ as you first suggested!)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Big Show may not always give us **** matches but the man really knows THIS BUSINESS in that he knows how to cut a good promo, knows how to work a card, knows plenty of little things that can work a crowd. I respect him and actually am happy to see him get a nice little role in this storyline.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Everything I've heard says that Big Show has a good attitude. When he was ECW champion, he volunteered to drop the belt to CM Punk, and was even willing to tap out to the Anaconda Vice. And Show's apparently the one who came up with the finish to Royal Rumble 2004 (where Benoit eliminated him).

I think it's fair to say that Show never lived up to potential he seemed to have at the start of his WCW career (go back and watch old clips - he was incredibly agile and athletic for a guy his size). But there's a lot of value in having a guy his size who can convincingly play a monster who has a good attitude and is willing to help put over other people. So I definitely understand why they keep him around.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I had a long rant about this up above. Given how WWE has booked women wrestlers in the past, I don't think that was the intent. Maybe the reaction will be such that WWE has to turn her babyface. And maybe I'm just being cynical.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I said the same thing in the Raw thread, out of all the wrestlers on that stage, the only ones that I noticed actually looking pissed was Big Show and Mark Henry. The Big Show is an excellent actor, he gets it. Hopefully Dolph takes a few notes...

    ReplyDelete
  30. And some women like to get in shape because Triple H has a thing for chicks with bigger clits than his own dick.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'm happy to see him in this storyline too. I really can't see him being around much longer, he's been in the business for almost 20 years, I'd think this could be his swan song. Have him go out as a hero, and then maybe he can do occasional appearances afterwards.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I can see them going with either a multi diva match of Bellas, Natty, AJ and Eva Marie at NOC with AJ winning. Then we get the dreaded AJ/Stephanie match in October with Steph winning the belt.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Totally. You know, this year might be something of a swan song for a lot of the holdover Attitude Era guys— Christian, RVD, Show, Henry, Rey, Kane. After Wrestlemania 30 I could totally see most if not all of those guys either retiring or becoming part-timers like Jericho. Either way, talent-wise it's probably the biggest transition period since the late 90s.

    ReplyDelete
  34. It does make you wonder why Dolph Ziggler was able to get away with criticizing Total Divas publically while no one else can.

    ReplyDelete
  35. THIS makes a lot of sense. Basically promote it as a "Total Divas Championship Match" at the PPV. Not that I think a single female viewer of the E! show will actually spend $50 to see it, but it's a logical thing to try.

Also, from what I've seen of her on the show and Monday on Raw, Eva Marie is gonna make a great heel.

    ReplyDelete
  36. And Natalya being with Khali isn't confusing already

    ReplyDelete
  37. This is, of course, the problem with the above idea. D-Bry's involvement with Total Divas would kind of undercut his joining forces with Ms. Anti-Total-Divas.

    ReplyDelete

Too bad it won't build to Brock and the Shield vs. CM Punk/Big Show/Henry/DBry at Wargames:

    ReplyDelete
  39. 1. Stephanie already praised AJ's promo on Twitter, so there goes that whole line of thinking.

    2. That weird promo where Steph talked down to AJ and Kaitlyn was, if I recall, explained by the sheets as nothing more than Stephanie venting her spleen over someone interrupting her while she was talking backstage. She did it on TV because she's a mature, adult professional, you see.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I think they'd ignore Stephanie's twitter praise if it didn't suit the story.

    ReplyDelete
  41. "Stephanie already praised AJ's promo on Twitter, so there goes that whole line of thinking."

Not really. You're assuming she only tweets kayfabe.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Uh...he got away with it?

    ReplyDelete
  43. AJ never used Bryan, Cena or Dolph to win matches or anything like that. She was attention seeking with Punk and Kane. You can call it self-serving from an emotional perspective, but AJ was never portrayed as a gold-digger in the same way that Brie and Nikki come across.

I mean...what possible (kayfabe) reason do the Bellas have jobs, they can't win a match without cheating. AJ tapped Kaitlyn out like...3 times in a row.
