Daniel Bryan On Being Fired From WWF In 2001

I know that he had a tryout against Cena, but I didn't know that he
was actually hired by WWF at one time in order to be fired.

Was it just a matter of being too small, or was there some other
reason for this particular firing?

Got me, I didn't even hear about the guy until late 2002.

  1. He was in Memphis went that was a developmental territory. Right before it was dropped and people were assigned to either OVW or HWA, he was released, along with guys with Spanky and a few other trainees from the Shawn Michaels training school. I have his shoot interview from 2003 or 2004 and he talks about that a bit

  2. It was probably due to his size but I think even he admits he was still green as grass during that time. His ROH run gave him his credibility.

  3. The only thing I know about his time in Memphis developmental is this video of a match between him and William Regal. I remember watching this years ago and was surprised to find it still online.

  5. Having English teacher be your fallback plan is a terrible idea... Everybody want to teach English and there are no jobs available.

He could always guest star on CM Punk's grammar slam.

  8. Man was that ever the wrong time to be trying to break into WWE anyway, with all the WCW and ECW guys fighting for spots. Although there again, all the Class of '02 guys did well for themselves so maybe it was a missed oppotunity. Still, he's better off in the current environment. Sometimes its better to get well seasoned in the indies before stepping up than to get signed while you're still young and just getting hot. Look at Paul London for example.

He was enhancement talent at the time...not hired, just a tryout for TV or just a lay-down guy to the stars.

  11. He doesn't have to speak or write English well to comment on another's plan to be an English teacher.

  12. He was in developmental when the WWE was using Memphis and dropped when they left there and used OVW and HWA.
