That Flair guy might have a future in this business of ours.

Comments

  1. I predict that we will see a Flair vs Sting match in 2020.

  2. Had Warrior not spazzed out I'm assuming they would have done the switch at Royal Rumble 1993? That would make sense because the original Survivor Series Main Event was Ramon/Flair vs. Ultimate Maniacs.

  3. Is Flair in the new RF Face off Shoot interview?

  4. I have never enjoyed a Ric Flair promo.

I simply don't understand the appeal. The guy always struck me as a spastic creep.

  5. Really?

    Check this promo out.

I will say Flair brings it, but Arn Kills it.

  6. I dunno, it kinda seemed like every other Flair promo I've seen, although I admit I haven't seen nearly as many as most wrestling fans.

I did find his semi-shoot promo compelling when he tore into Bischoff. He said something like, "You, I hate your guts," and it felt awkward because it was legitimately emotional, whereas he too often comes across as awkward because his delivery is stilted and contrived. He's like John Cena if every Cena promo was his semi-annual Super Serious Angry Intense promo. Only Flair has more tired catch-phrases than Cena.

  7. i can respect that.

    Different strokes.

  8. I always found it odd why during Flair's 90's WWF run, he rarely strutted out in one of his "custom made" suits. I'm thinking that may fall on Vince who probably thought that he must always be in costume. No one played off their wardrobe during a promo better than Ric.

  9. No...just no...Flair could deliver the type of promo that could get people to buy tickets without even seeing him wrestle. He did this throughout the country.

  10. You're a good man, Fuj; I expected people to dismiss me as a troll.

Meanwhile, flair4dagold, I admire your enthusiasm, and I am not discounting Flair's ability to put butts in the seats. I simply don't count my butt among them.

The Rock got a lot of mileage from boasting about his clothes, although I concede he was probably paying homage to Flair.

  13. I loved NOD Rock and thouse gaudy, bedazzled shirts.

  14. That's cool, I mean, we had a movie thread not long ago and some folks didn't like The Godfather. There's tastes for everything, but man, I just can't see how anyone can find Flair's promos shitty...it's puzzling to me.

  15. I mever really took notice to that, but yeah, he was in his robe almost 100 percent of the time wasn't he?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Yeah and as someone who had been watching Flair on TBS since 1985, it was strange and it's still strange when I go back and watch these youtube vids. Even his promos were more animated, if that makes sense. Lots more yelling and screaming, when Flair only did that in the NWA when he was pissed. He was usually pretty composed during his promos in the NWA when he was selling the promotion and stuff. I still love his run, but like I said, it felt odd at times.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yeah, I was the opposite, had never watched NWA until I was older. Didn't "get" Flair, then he held up a shoe and proclaimed it to have cost more than a strangers house, and I understood.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yup. Flair and Terry Funk.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I've heard it said that, on many occasions, Flair was wearing nothing else underneath the robe.

  20. They gave the belt to Bret before Warrior spazzed out. I'd actually be very surprised if they would have ran with a heel champion to the Rumble. I think Vince knew he needed to make some changes on top when he moved the title to Flair in September, with the intention that Flair would never make it to Survivor Series as champion.

  21. my 12th grade sideburns were homage to the rock

  22. 3x Woo², at the end.

You can't defeat 3x Woo². You just can't.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yeah, the only two times I can remember him wearing one was in the little interview Vince conducted with him in a restaurant on the WWF magazine pictures of Elizabeth and the one shortly before WrestleMania when he's "boarding his jet" and stops give an interview.

  24. Double main event with Triple H vs. HBK.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Warrior spazzed out just before he was meant to win the belt (Summerslam '92) from Bret.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I always hated him only wearing robes.. and his hair in the WWF was atrocious...

    ReplyDelete
  27. Watchit...that's a $500 shirt you're making fun of.

    ReplyDelete
  28. If you're talking about Warrior refusing to turn heel at Summerslam 92, then Flair wouldn't have gotten the belt in Hershey anyway. I think Princess is talking about when Warrior bolted from the company a few months later.

omg and did you see. those. shoes?!

and that blush TOTALLY didnt do him any favors. um, its called FOUNDATION, look into it, richard!

  30. Honestly, I don't think anyone has ever been as good at interviewing as Mean Gene. Just made it feel important, no irony, just played truthfully.

    ReplyDelete
  31. "I did not care for the Godfather. It insists upon itself."

    ReplyDelete
  32. Like for sure.. he was a total spaz!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Among others, ape, I like Hart, Michaels, Bryan, Savage and, for nostalgic purposes, the Ultimate Warrior.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I never realized that before, but you're right. I can't remember Flair ever being in a suit during that run. Maybe VKM wanted Flair to wear one of those Ralph Firley type of suits that he wore and Flair refused.
