Monday Night Open Mic

Howdy Blog O'Doomers.

Well that was an eventful Summerslam! The good news is that there was a spirited debate between which of the two designated feature matches was better. That's always a good thing. FWIW I think Punk-Lesnar was the best of the WWE style we're used to while Cena-Bryan went a total different direction and the running knee finisher was amazing. Of course it was used because Cena isn't going to submit to the Yes Lock, but it was still miles better than a roll up or a small package.

I give a lot of credit to Cena too. I hate the character, he's boring, he's goofy, but he GETS it. He understands the big event and damn if doesn't deliver the goods as a worker when he knows the spotlight is on him.

Where do we go from here. Who the hell knows to be honest. I think we're all hoping Daniel Bryan gets his chase and gets his reward but in the back of our minds we're also thinking...'this is really set up for Super Cena to return from injury and save the WWE from the HHH-Orton regime'. Be honest, we all have that fear and in reality this whole alignment sets itself up more for Punk or Cena than Bryan. Punk is the established anti-establishment guy and Cena is the superhero. Daniel Bryan is a great wrestler that wants to be respected and appreciated for his wrestling ability. I don't see how he fits going against the McMahon machine in long-term booking. As Bret Hart proved one can only take the 'I've been screwed' stuff so far before people get sick of it.

I'm curious of HHH in this role too. I know he wanted to be a heel for a long time but he will NEVER be Mr. McMahon and him trying to channel that role will look like a cheap imitation of the real thing.

As for Orton, some of you may hate this but I liked his ring work as a face. I think he's a good worker. As a heel I always thought he worked in slow motion. His pacing was horrible. I mean seriously he moved like Andre. So I'm hopeful he'll take the good things he was developing during the last three years working as a face and keep them in his move set.

So with that being said, enjoy the show and come out swinging but, like always, try to keep it clean.

  1. I'll mark the fuck out if "EVOLUTION IS A MYSTERY!" kick starts Raw

    ReplyDelete
  2. If past history is any indication, I'll stop watching wrestling for three years if that happens.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I'll mark the fuck out if "TWINKLE, TWINKLE LITTLE STAR" kick starts Raw. I mark out easily.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I think I'm more interested to see where the Punk-Heyman saga goes next.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Well hhh has already done a cheap imitation of ric flair and hbk depending if he's face or heel, so what's cheap Vince knockoff gimmick at this point

    ReplyDelete
  6. At the start of Raw, HHH should come and announce he is instituting a no facial hair policy, like the Yankees have. Shave or be fired. And he can give the heels like Sandow special exemptions for even more heel heat.

    LOLOLOLOLOLOL

    ReplyDelete
  8. It's the return of heel Orton, so you know what that means..

    CHINLOCKS!

YOU GET A CHINLOCK! AND YOU GET A CHINLOCK!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Another headlock, Randy? will be a blog thing again.

    ReplyDelete
  10. All right that was funny.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I know this might sound a bit warped bit in a weird sorta way sometimes I prefer the pin o the submission (the latter of which you'd think would be a more emphatic way to put someone over). Look at HHH at Wrestlemania 27 or HBK at Wrestlemania 23--weak little taps can almost say "ok ok, this guy got me", whereas a clean three count after a devastating finisher like last night screams "he took em out!"

Of course, null and void if Cena were to tap passionately as if to save his life, but that is DEFINITELY not gonna happen.

    ReplyDelete
  12. You guys are in 9 p.m. form already tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I didn't mind the pinfall. I'm glad it was a knockout shot rather than a roll up or some weak sauce like that. He kneed a bitch in the face and pinned him.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I didn't see the show last night, but interesting angles coming from WWE breed creativity.

    ReplyDelete
  15. as a Yankee fan who can't fucking stand the beards on most Red Sox players... shit, I might end up applauding that one.

(Then again, I fucking hate the Red Sox, even more after last night.)

    ReplyDelete
  16. I don't mind Orton's work as a face, but I can't stand him as a heel. Actually, I can't stand him in general. But his offense is slow, plodding (sorry, "deliberate"), and it's easier to stand when he's a face who takes more of a beating, rather than a heel dominating a match.

    ReplyDelete
  17. GONNA PUNT SOME PEOPLE'S DADS TONIGHT

    ReplyDelete
  18. I don't know why people hate his offense so much. Maybe it's because I don't watch all the time, but I really dig the RKO, That backbreaker thingy, the middle rope DDT, and him pounding the ground is fun because I know he's gonna pop out another shoulder one of these days.

I'm not saying I like the guy personally, but I think his offense is the thing I like most about him.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I like his offense too, I think he moves WAY too slow as a heel though. His pacing sucks because he's trying too hard to be methodical and deliberate and it's too much.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I hate the "stand over the guy and stomp every limb slowly" thing he does whether he's a face or a heel.

    ReplyDelete
  21. We're(Giants) playing the Red Sox for the next 3 games, so in true Giants form they'll do you a solid and get swept.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Are we doing points for grammar slams? I feel that'd be a fun little meta game.

    ReplyDelete
  23. "I know he's gonna pop out another shoulder one of these days."

or you could just get him a motorcycle and problem solved.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Do not mock the Garvin Stomp. Although he's gotten lazy with it and doesn't stomp everything anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  25. After sleeping on it, as long as Triple H never goes cleanly over Bryan I'll be ok with what happened last night.

Looking forward to the show tonight greatly, almost as much as I look forward to seeing Cesaro vs Zayn again on Wednesday for the third MOTY WWE candidate this week.

    ReplyDelete
  26. LOOK IN MY EEEEEYYYYYES
    WHAT DO YOU SEE?
    A LACK OF PERSONALITY

    ReplyDelete
  27. yuck, that doesn't look like a great pitching lineup (I hope Timmeh has a good day tonight.) Couldn't save Cain and Madbum to play the Sox?

    ReplyDelete
  28. "EVOLUTION IS A LINT MACHINE!"

    ReplyDelete
  29. This video is amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  30. DAMMIT, MATTINGLY, I SAID GET RID OF THOSE SIDEBURNS!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Really sells that, if you didn't watch the PPV, you missed some special shit.

    ReplyDelete
  32. You know, I never noticed that Michael Cole's call of that heel turn was pretty damn good. He sounded sick to his stomach.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Stranger in the AlpsAugust 19, 2013 at 6:03 PM

I'm still trying to play catch up on the DVR, and watching RAW from two weeks ago. Damn, but that D-Bry/Vince beard shaving segment ran 20 freakin' minutes. Even in FF that thing was long.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Top 5 video package.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand no sympathy for this guy.

    ReplyDelete
  36. LOL, how does HE open the show. He's about to get ANGRY about someone using the MITB on someone else again.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Loses title 22 hours ago
    Smilin' on Raw

    ReplyDelete
  38. I was hoping for the Orton/H money promo, instead Cena shows up to laugh it all off.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Why the fuck is this guy coming out smiling? He LOST last night.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Yikes, put the wrap back on that elbow, chop quick like

    ReplyDelete
  41. That elbow is not TV PG.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Cena huh? Think he'll explain why he didn't come help Bryan? Naaaah.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I expected Bryan, Trips or Orton to open the show but Cena OVERCAME THE ODDS!!

    ReplyDelete
  44. ROTFL. "Cena Sucks"

    ReplyDelete
  45. This is big bullshit, he shouldn't even be on this Raw.

    ReplyDelete
  46. You lost -- STOP SMILING! SELL THE LOSS, DOUCHE!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Daniel Bryan does NOT need Cena to protect him.

    ReplyDelete
  48. yeah, it was very well done. And on the replay, I liked the foreshadowing with HHH using the King of Kings theme.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Cena was disgusted with the cash in, but not enough to take the 30 seconds needed to intervene.

    ReplyDelete
  50. "Daniel Bryan and I had a knock-down, drag-out fight! We fought tooth-and-nail! It was a war! And Daniel Bryan came out the victor! He EARNED the WWE title and I RESPECT that! But what you did, HHH. What YOU did, Randy Orton. That is unforgivable."

    ReplyDelete
  51. On the plus side, he now has the largest ARM in the world

    ReplyDelete
  52. I'm starting to feel bad for Cena, he can't even get an ironic cheer

    ReplyDelete
  53. Say what you will about John Cena, but that son of a bitch is tough.

    ReplyDelete
  54. How did Tensai's head end up on Cena's arm?

    ReplyDelete
  55. CHRIST, TAKE ME OUT OF THE HD ERA

    ReplyDelete
  56. There goes your clean win for Bryan.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Ugh, quit showing closeup of it. I just got done eating.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Nope, still there.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Jesus, when did Cena get the Death Star mounted on his elbow?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Loudest pop of the night.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Okay, kudos on explaining why Cena didn't intervene.

    ReplyDelete
  62. If tonight doesn't end with Bryan running in from the crowd and beating the shit out of Orton, I'll be very angry.

    ReplyDelete
  63. 4-6 MONTHS?!

    Holy shit.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Long live PoocHHHie!

    ReplyDelete
  65. 4-6 monhts...crap, your surprise Royal Rumble entrant/winner everyone

    ReplyDelete
  66. Wow. That was the sound of sheer joy from the crowd there.

    ReplyDelete
  67. No, no...more importantly, a man who has earned my LOVE.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I HONESTLY FEEL BAD FOR CENA SOMETIMES

    ReplyDelete
  69. I get why Cena gets booed, but this fan could at least show him SOME sympathy. For gods sake he has fluid in his elbow and a torn tricep and he still went 25+ minutes with Daniel Bryan. I might not like Cena's character at all, but he's one hell of a competitor

    ReplyDelete
  70. NEED A CREED MY SACRIFICE VID IMO

    ReplyDelete
  71. Daniel Bryan loses title 22 hours ago
    No smiles in evidence

    ReplyDelete
  72. That was a pretty somber Cena promo. He sold it.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Considering they spent the better part of a year painting DB as mentally unstable, he should be kicking heads off from now until his rematch

    ReplyDelete
  74. Cenas promo honestly made me feel bad for him, he did a great job last night and his promo is on the money, theres no Hogan in this man

    ReplyDelete
  75. "Ugly loss for Daniel Bryan last night, Brain."
"EVERYTHING is ugly for Daniel Bryan, Monsoon!"
    "WILL YOU STOP?!"

    ReplyDelete
  76. good evening.

    ReplyDelete
  77. My fantasy booked Raw is already better.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Phew I thought that was gonna be the Bellas

    ReplyDelete
  79. KILL IT WITH FIRE!

    ReplyDelete
  80. 10 MINUTES IS TOO LONG WITHOUT A MCMAHON.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Wait...new music for Steph o Mac?

    ReplyDelete
  82. Oh Thank Christ, here's Stephanie, said no one fucking ever.

    ReplyDelete
  83. use the ugly jokes now that Steph is out.

    ReplyDelete
  84. If he kicked her head off tonight, I'd buy $100 in WWE Stock immediately.

    ReplyDelete
  85. This music is horrendous.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Steph is turribel

    ReplyDelete
  87. Considering HHH got U2, Cena will have The Beatles.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I SAID THAT BACK IN 2000

    ReplyDelete
  89. Sweet mother of hell, let the guy talk!

    ReplyDelete
  90. I will never get use to Steph's new theme.

    ReplyDelete
  91. BREAK HER FUCKING ARM DANIEL

    ReplyDelete
  92. if he kicked the stump of her neck after that, I'd buy $1000 of WWE stock!

    ReplyDelete
  93. If you feel so bad, abolish MITB.

    ReplyDelete
  94. shut up Steph go away

    ReplyDelete
  95. How does Stephanie make it through airports? You'd think being a cyborg would be hell on detectors.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Bet she won't reverse the decision though...

    ReplyDelete
  97. Daniel needs to go back to crazy mode, it was money

    ReplyDelete
  98. HHH was Steve Austin, apparently.

    ReplyDelete
  99. ....says the guy dating a Bella twin.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Triple H was The Renegade? News to me.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Basically this is the Punk angle done in super fast motion, Cena just didn't beat anyone up

    ReplyDelete
  102. Channeling his inner Jericho.

    ReplyDelete
  103. To be fair, they could throw the Bellas back in their faces.

    ReplyDelete
  104. YOU WANT SOME ICE FOR THAT BURN, TRASHBAG HO?

    ReplyDelete
  105. This program is about HHH, logic-be-damned.

    ReplyDelete
  106. What does Duke "The Dumpster" Drosie have to do with this?

    ReplyDelete
  107. Fire me? I'm already fired.

    ReplyDelete
  108. BURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRN.

    ReplyDelete
  109. you forgot the skanky, brutal, bottom-feeding...

    ReplyDelete
  110. SUMMER OF BRYAN

    ReplyDelete
  111. I imagine HHH is like Rick James in the Chappelle's Show sketch.

"I'm the greatest of all-time! One of the prettiest motherfuckas you've ever seen. Greatest singer, dancer..."

    ReplyDelete
  112. Kick her in the head and Orton could cash in a million briefcases

    ReplyDelete
  113. This is just awesome. Stephanie is being booked perfectly here.

    ReplyDelete
  114. They should just be selfaware at this point and have Punk come out next.

    ReplyDelete
  115. She is not a bad heel. Completely hate-able.

    ReplyDelete
  116. This is really good.

    ReplyDelete
  117. How mannish she has become still fucks with me.

    ReplyDelete
  118. She's the new Vince. It's word for word.

    ReplyDelete
  119. I HOPE YOU KNOW THIS STORYLINE IS FOR YOU, IWC. I HOPE YOU FUCKING KNOW

    ReplyDelete
  120. PREACH ON BROTHA!

    ReplyDelete
  121. Yes, Steph...much better to have a face of the company with two strikes.

    ReplyDelete
  122. This is really good stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Snap this bitch in half, man.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Which is why I'm still not convinced anything is going to change once Vince steps down. She studied at the altar of Vince in the years after he forgot how to do what he knew how to do.

    ReplyDelete
  125. I remember arguing with people here that he could, in fact, be a top dog in this company. Vindication. The man is comfortable and a natural on the stick, and he seems to have about 90% of the audience in the palm of his hand.

    Good segment so far.

    ReplyDelete
  126. If this was 2001, she'd be in a Yes lock already.

    ReplyDelete
  127. jesus if Daniel puts her in the YES lock....YES YES YES

    ReplyDelete
  128. It's been for us since the very first Vince troll of the IWC a couple months back talking about Bryan's size.

    ReplyDelete
  129. I would have gone with letter "C", but thats me.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Solid B+ lol...I love the corporate lingo being added. This is brilliant.

    ReplyDelete
  131. I'm loving this crowd already

    ReplyDelete
  132. putting aside my general hatred of Steph, this is really a good heel promo.

    ReplyDelete
  133. its true, its damn true

    ReplyDelete
  134. They're really booking themselves into a corner with this angle. If this ends any way but Bryan becoming the The Guy they're going to turn off so many people. Cena returning to end HHH-Orton's reign of terror isn't going to cut it this time.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Imagine the pop if Bryan would have said that

    ReplyDelete
  136. I'm sorry...this segment is awesome, and Stephanie's killing it.

    ReplyDelete
  137. KICK HER HEAD IN!

    ReplyDelete
  138. ...for the first time in years

    ReplyDelete
  139. Yeah, easily her best performance ever.

    ReplyDelete
  140. From how he's acting, you'd think he's actually upset about losing the title.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Ohhh man. This is gonna be fun

    ReplyDelete
  142. I take back everything every one of you has ever said about Stephanie. She is doing a GREAT job here.

    ReplyDelete
  143. EVER SINCE THAT HBK TWEET

    ReplyDelete
  144. PUT HER IN THE YES LOCK

    ReplyDelete
  145. FUCK YOU WHORE

    ReplyDelete
  146. This is the absolute PERFECT role for her...

    ReplyDelete
  147. The arrest! Bring it full circle. The new Austin/McMahon.

    ReplyDelete
  148. This would be a great spot for a Shield face turn.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Well, I guess they didn't need them for Darren Young's The Bachelor after all.

    ReplyDelete
  150. The crowd should walk out if Bryan is escorted out. That would be awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  151. They are really nailing this . Steph is actually believable and Bryan is a great hero.

    ReplyDelete
  152. all my comments were deleted wtf

    ReplyDelete
  153. Ladies and gentlemen...the PG Stone Cold.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Yep, ironic that being a bossy bitch thinking she knows what's best for the business but actually being out of touch is the perfect character for her...art imitating life

    ReplyDelete
  155. So the show ends with Bryan beating the shit out of Trips, Vince or Orton. Which one do you guys pick?

    ReplyDelete
  156. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand WWE has struck gold.

    ReplyDelete
  157. He should go all the way and set up outside and have a rally.

    ReplyDelete
  158. If it's pre-HGH Steph walking naked into my bedroom... I'd say it.

    ReplyDelete
  159. This crowd is killing it

    ReplyDelete
  160. The new two man power trip standing tall.

    ReplyDelete
  161. HHH show ass? LOL

    ReplyDelete
  162. Are we all in agreement that that was fucking amazing?

    ReplyDelete
  163. if they do the zamboni/beer truck/milk truck gimmick, whats DB riding in on?

    ReplyDelete
  164. Haha I agree but she ain't acting.

    ReplyDelete
  165. Now let's hope HHH doesn't pedigree it.

    ReplyDelete
  166. They should set up a ring in the parking lot for Daniel Bryan to hold his own matches during the show.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Move over Punk, we might have a new voice of the voiceless.

    ReplyDelete
  168. EVERYONE!(gary oldman's style)

    ReplyDelete
  169. ...yeah, I forgot about that

    ReplyDelete
  170. That was an awesome segment

    ReplyDelete
  171. If they can figure out a way to drag this out to WM with Bryan going over a HHH-managed Orton, WWE can have all my money forever...

    ReplyDelete
  172. Bryan is at least on MITB2011 Punk levels right now.

    ReplyDelete
  173. Yes, but I need Triple H and Orton to do some old school heelin' before the night is through.

    ReplyDelete
  174. I don't know that I would go with amazing; the match last night was. To me, this was pretty good. It gives me hope that they'll do something interesting with DB as the lead babyface.

    ReplyDelete
  175. The Normandy

    ReplyDelete
  176. Meh, they have a few good songs.

    ReplyDelete
  177. "Uncouth" = appropriate amount of smug. Vince's fingerprints are on that bad boy. Like his use of "magnanimous"

    ReplyDelete
  178. Tofu Truck (Vegan)

    ReplyDelete
  179. Latter. Had a better kitchen. Best for vegan cooking.

    ReplyDelete
  180. Vince, maybe to show that Bryan isn't fucking around.

    ReplyDelete
  181. Bryan needs to be kept out of the title picture until he wins the Rumble.
