So yeah, I'm done with RAW

As you probably surmised from the cable cutting, I'm incredibly burned out on WWE and TNA both right now, and so I'm calling it a day on the RAW reviews after two years of doing it again.  This now gives me a chance to do what I REALLY want, like NJPW reviews and old Mid-South.

So I'm now looking for new reviewers for RAW and Impact.  Any interest, let me know!

Comments

  1. I don't blame you as I only keep up with RAW via clips from wwe.com based on what I heard was good. It'd be cool if you still gave some thoughts on whatever RAW segments you do catch and think worthy of comment, because, as you've heard a million times, you're a funny dude with good insight.

    TELL ME A LIE
AND SAY THAT YOU WON'T GO

    ReplyDelete
  3. Maybe Scott reviewing Japanese wrestling is the final push I need to really get into it.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Sounds good man. You deserve the break.

"And the Hulu situation has been taken care of, to which I am always humbled and amazed that people care so much about my stuff that they would help out just to keep me publishing things to read. You guys are just awesome."

Did the people who took care of the Hulu situation do so expecting you to be reviewing RAW? I'd be a bit bummed if that were the case...

    ReplyDelete
  5. Leave the memories alone!

    ReplyDelete
  6. But! What am I gonna do with my Tuesday mornings at work now?

    ReplyDelete
  7. Jeez, 3 hours! I MAY do... maybe alternate with someone or something.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Crap, now I may have to watch Raw again. I only keep up with it through your reviews.

    ReplyDelete
  9. And I thought we were getting truncated Raw reviews. Guess I was wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I'd be very interested in doing this setup with you.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Jerk off like a good 'Merican!

    ReplyDelete
  12. I don't blame you. That show is so hard to watch week after week, even on Hulu. I can't imagine having to pay attention to each segment.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Michael Bradley?

    ReplyDelete
  14. I am sad to read this. Thank you Scott for doing the recaps of Raw and Impact. I will miss both of because they made my day every morning for a great read.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I'm also intrigued to try Main Event since its SHORT. I might do the edited RAW on occasion, but at least it'll be at my convenience now.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Since WrestleMania your reviews are the only way that I've kept up.
I'll miss it, but can't say as I blame you one bit. I'm cutting the cable myself when my current contract runs out in December.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Luckily the Live Threads shall continue!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  18. On one hand I feel sad, because like everyone else, Scott's Raw reviews were worth waiting up for, but at the same time I'm shocked Scott managed to keep going for as long as he did.

    ReplyDelete
  19. NXT is also worth the watch. I think the Sami Zayn vs Antonio Cesaro match is next week, by all reports a MOTY candidate.

    ReplyDelete
  20. upsetting news, but a mans gotta do what a mans gotta do. Will you still review some PPVs from time to time???

    ReplyDelete
  21. Zanadude probably needs to change his pants on reading the above. =)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Caliber_Winfield_The_3rdAugust 15, 2013 at 10:35 AM

You know what I'd rather have Monday nights? A Scott Sez of the Raws of 2002.

Also, I know you're all hoping I'd take up the mantle of reviewing Raw, but I just couldn't do it.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Caliber_Winfield_The_3rdAugust 15, 2013 at 10:36 AM

I have no idea why all the downvotes. Mike was a great reviewer. Good guy, too.

    ReplyDelete
  24. The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves...

    ReplyDelete
  25. With Raw reviews out can we get more Scott Sez for older shows?

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think NXT would be the best option rather than Main Event - the faces are fresh, it's short, and new guys always come in as others get called up, you likely wouldnt tire of it in comparison to seeing 16 years of Kane and 14 of Big Show, etc. - plus its good stuff in general

    ReplyDelete
  27. Caliber_Winfield_The_3rdAugust 15, 2013 at 10:42 AM

I imagine Julius as he is, and in the Rome setting and all, and talking all wise & such to Brutus, who's wearing a bow-tie, with a mullet, and huge hedgeclippers in his hands.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I actually got the impression you were getting more into Raw, as they had a couple of really stellar shows in the last month. Oh well :( keep bringing the PPV rants!

    ReplyDelete
  29. But will Scott learn Japanese in order to determine if the announcers are similar to Jim Ross or Tony Schiavone?

    ReplyDelete
  30. yeah wow that's surprising, from memory no one had an issue with his reviews at the time...

    ReplyDelete
  31. Tag team Raw reviews, Caliber and his trusty editor side-by-side!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Sorry to read this, Scott. However, in your quest for a replacement, may I suggest someone who has an unwavering positive attitude about the whole scene? Is that too hard to find? Yet another sarcastic reviewer on the internet is kinda stale. Leave that to the BoDers.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Your_Favourite_AssholeAugust 15, 2013 at 10:58 AM

how 'bout the bastard child of mroberts and charlie reneke

    ReplyDelete
  34. I might type up something decent about Impact tonight or tomorrow morning... no guarantees though. Hell, knowing me I'll manage to somehow miss it despite thinking about it now.

If I do... send it to Scott? Caliber? Anyone else?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Someone positive about both TNA and WWE?

What are you smoking, because I want some. Even though I'm pretty much as straight-edge as Punk, minus the "better than you" attitude.

(Now half a lifetime ago, I'd have been good for both. Today, though? Nope.)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Do you get ESPN Classic? I'd love to see your feelings about the GWF, which they are rerunning from 1991 and 1992.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I actually think WWE is pretty good at the moment. And TNA has a fair mix of good with the bad.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Charismatic e-Negro Jef VinsonAugust 15, 2013 at 11:16 AM

Three hours = 3 reviewers, maybe?

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'm not really too upset about this, for some reason.

    ReplyDelete
  40. But..but how will I know what my opinion of Raw is without SK Raw rants? I feel lost.

    ReplyDelete
  41. What the eff Scott, am I supposed to ACTUALLY DO WORK ON TUESDAYS NOW?!?!?!?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Pay attention? Guess you haven't been reading the rants.

    ReplyDelete
  43. The shows are just way too long for a weekly deal, quality aside. I'm totally willing to try the 90 minute version and see if it helps me, though.

    ReplyDelete
  44. It should probably be a team of reviewers. Raw is like the Red October during the radiation leak, no one should spend more than 20 minutes watching it at a time.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Well, the live thread has around 50 different posters at one time all reviewing the show. Can't top that.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I'm not looking at it so much as losing the Raw reviews, but hopefully gaining reviews of good wrestling. As much fun as the snark can be, I'm looking forward to that.

    ReplyDelete
  47. As long as they don't hire the 411mania RAW recapper I'll be happy.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I wanna get Scott's take on the NJPW ippvs and such that have been on. It's been some GOOD SHIT.

    ReplyDelete
  49. We've got a good NXT guy in my opinion. Thomas Hall has been on top of that show for a while and does a good job of explaining the story lines and how they are progressing.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Shoot me am email, johnathanm.mcdonald@gmail.com. Scott, would you like a wrestling related piece of writing as a tryout?

    ReplyDelete
  51. No offense to Thomas, but if Scott starts reviewing NXT, whatever readership he has will be gone in a blink.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Tony Acero? Yeah, he is awful.

    ReplyDelete
  53. haha could do it like the old 'War Zone' hour and 'Raw is War' hour!

    ReplyDelete
  54. As much as I'm not into WWE, an El Generico/Claudio Castagnoli match sounds great. I may have to catch that.

    ReplyDelete
  55. The blog should vote on the next reviewer, "Chopped" style.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Start subscribing to the F4W website and listen to Bryan Alvarez, Dave Meltzer and Vinny Verhei recap Raw on their various shows.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I watch the 90 minute Raw and I like it. they shave a lot of the entrances to save time and besides keeping the stupid divas stuff related to the new show, the cuts have seemed reasonable- I haven't had to look up many matches to watch after the fact, based on general quality consensus.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Charismatic e-Negro Jef VinsonAugust 15, 2013 at 12:25 PM

Yeah. I can see getting burned out on 3 hours of RAW. At least you know you can "tag out"

    ReplyDelete
  59. SCOTT GOT BEAT UP BY MARINES?

WAIT, DO WE EVEN HAVE MARINES IN CANADA?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Your_Favourite_AssholeAugust 15, 2013 at 1:03 PM

    CAPITAL LETTERS!

    ReplyDelete
  61. I kinda want to give it a whirl... but I don't think I can afford the drugs/alcohol required to get the job done, week in, week out.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Can't wait for the mid south stuff

    ReplyDelete
  63. All right. We have seen the end of the Raw reviews. For TPrincess, for Flair4dagold, for Caliber Winfield, I don't know...I'm Dirty Dave Delaney. Scott Keith, you can go to hell! We're outta here. Straight to hell.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Sweet opportunity for the caliber winfield brand!

    ReplyDelete
  65. YOU PROMISED YOU'D DO THE 90 MINUTE SHOWS IF WE GOT YOU A SUB TO HULU+

    ReplyDelete
  66. This is why we can't have nice things.

    ReplyDelete
  67. How hard can copying and pasting a Raw recap from 411 be?

    ReplyDelete
  68. You are correct sir! Yes I could stop reading him/411mania, but it's just a force of habit and I'm a sucker for sticking with the things I know.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Oh, I love Thomas Hall's recaps, I only meant that watching NXT (for fun) is worth it, not meaning he should recap.

    Should have made that clearer..oops

    ReplyDelete
  70. I propose we dig up Matthew Roberts for RAW recaps.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I think you took something out of context. I can certainly c understand where the confusion would come from there.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Fuj and cult review Raw. You know you want to read that.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Much appreciated. Thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  74. None taken. I would read Scott's instead of mine too.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Charismatic e-Negro Jef VinsonAugust 15, 2013 at 1:45 PM

First hour: Scott (So the sarcasm is still fresh)
    Second Hour: Cultstatus
    Third Hour; The Fuj
Maybe have a guest come in every once in a blue to recap one of the non-Scott hours.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Charismatic e-Negro Jef VinsonAugust 15, 2013 at 1:47 PM

If we do guest reviewers can we get Dougie and that Baker dude to do one together?

    ReplyDelete
  77. Does JD Dunn still write? That's the only guy I could read except for Scott... and of course Hyatte's Mop-Ups.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I have it on good authorities it was MOUNTIES. They were trying to prove how tough they were, so while The Princless and Cultstatus watched (they were too drunk to help), anywhere from 3 to 18 mounties kicked his ass outside of a nightclub in Syracuse.

    ReplyDelete
  79. So I'm not the only one hearing a "Dougie! Dougie!" chant coming from the other members of the forum?

    ReplyDelete
  80. I've been DVRing the shit out of those show. Man, what fun. Raven when he was pretty boy heel. Buff Bagwell with a mask. X-Pac before he was a total greaseball duche.... good times.

    ReplyDelete
  81. How about you? IMAGINE THE DOWNVOTES!

    ReplyDelete
  82. Can I make a suggestion? Move away from a match-by-match, move-by-move, minute-by-minute recap. Just tell us what worked, and what didn't, and review the matches that mattered, and skip the rest.

This is the move that most online tv recappers made from the early 00s to today -- the recap doesn't need to give the same experience as viewing the show in its entirety; it just has to tell people "did it work?" and how the things which mattered moved forward.

    ReplyDelete
  83. No, mounties just taser the shit out of you.

Nobody south of the border understands just how *accurate* Jacques Rougeau's Mountie gimmick was.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Cui bono?

It would still require him to watch the show, which he doesn't want to do. And I can decide for myself what worked and what didn't. It was the entertainment value of the whole piece that made it worth reading.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Man...first Marion Bartoli, now this. And they say things like this happen in threes...

    John Cena is gonna retire???

    ReplyDelete
  86. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFSrINhfNsQ

    This one's better.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Total Divas is just as short, with less shows and more cultural relativity.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Yes, they do...but they spell it with an extra u.

    ReplyDelete
  89. In a bold move that has stunned Hollywood insiders, newly-divorced comeback-kid Troy McClure has turned down the supporting lead in McBain IV to direct and star in his own pet project: The Contrabulous Fabtraption of Professor Horatio Hufnagel. Will the gambit pay off? 20th Century Fox is betting... it will.

i read that some munch said something like 'did her dad tell her that she wouldnt grow up to be a looker'

    but i think shes cute

    ReplyDelete
  91. Wouldn't go out of my way to get her, but wouldn't kick her out of bed either.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Yeah I've argued for that before, honestly the Q-n-D, strictly review style is more fun to read. That's how I usually write. Presumably everyone already watched Raw and knows what's going on. But if he really just doesn't want to watch, can't say I blame him.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I think we have a chap like that round here...

Caliber's Blog of Doom. Get used to it.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Tried that in 2005 and it led to some of my worst work. The format of the writing isn't the problem here and I'd just go back to the classic format out of sheer force of habit anyway. As zanadude said, I just don't want to sit through the whole three-hour show anymore. So I'm gonna try the 90 minute format and see if it helps.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I am disappointed. Maybe some more Scott Sez to hold us over?

    ReplyDelete
  96. You've given so much to the WWE I believe in general, you should just download the RAW episodes and keep going. I would highly suggest it because I don't watch the show any more either but I still regularly come to the site to read the reviews to keep up on it. Plus I have always enjoyed your writings. But if you quit RAW again I can see myself not coming back.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Scott, I sent you my 411 and Inside Pulse reviews that I did working for them. I'd be interested in reviewing TNA for you!

    ReplyDelete

  99. Caliber_Winfield_The_3rdAugust 15, 2013 at 4:31 PM

Yes! I knew it! I knew I'd win you over some day! Victory has never tasted so sweet.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Caliber_Winfield_The_3rdAugust 15, 2013 at 4:37 PM

You know, I do have feelings, man.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Caliber_Winfield_The_3rdAugust 15, 2013 at 4:39 PM

Only if you wear the purple shirt

    ReplyDelete
  102. Caliber_Winfield_The_3rdAugust 15, 2013 at 4:46 PM

Well, it's pretty simple. Just Control C, then Control V. But I suppose with your extremely chubby fingers you mash keys. You may want to get a keyboard like the old folks telephones. Where each key is about 6 inches in diameter.

    Hope this helps!

    ReplyDelete
  103. An announcer said something like, "Her dad knew she wasn't going to grow up to be a looker, so he coached her to get ahead with her grit and toughness."

    ReplyDelete
  104. Instead of a Raw rant, maybe take the open mic thread, find some people to do a dramatic reading of the comments and post audio of that.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Scott, I'd love to try my hand at a Raw recap of sorts. After all, I have a journalism degree I'm not using at all and would love to be writing...something.

Since most of my background is in sports writing I have a ton of experience writing game recaps. I've long wondered if that format- minus postgame quotes from players and coaches, of course- would work. It'd be a cross-breed of an AV Club type episode review and a sporting event game article, rather than your straightforward, sequential, linear recapping of/opinion-giving/match rating.

I'm kind of coming up with this idea as I type it, Scott, and am getting excited about trying it. I think it could be something that could even work in conjunction with someone else doing a more straightforward-style review.

I imagine I'm not the only one here with journalism/professional writing experience, but even if it's just for fun I'd love to shake the rust off and try this format.

I can't fathom I have the time to do this weekly, but I want to give it a shot and see if I enjoy doing it so much that I find the time.

    ReplyDelete
  106. So, I emailed this to Scott in case he doesn't catch it here, but I'd like to hear from the rest of the BoDers, if you guys would be interested in reading this style of a Raw review. Like I said, I would hope it would be in addition to, and not rather than, a more traditional show recap like Scott and so many others here do so well.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Absolutely. You can be the Brainiac to my Luthor.

    ReplyDelete
  108. I'm bummed about this. Honestly, I don't like any of the other reviewers on the site outside of princess. It was good while it lasted.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Disappointing, it was the main thing I looked forward to reading on the blog, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

    ReplyDelete
  110. FIVE MOVES OF DOOM.
.....And, we cut to a commercial.
Cole talks about INTENSITY and MOMENTUM
    KICK WHAM PEDIGREE

And he POINTS AT THE SIGN.

    There. Hire me.

Just kidding. Go refresh Scooter. We will happily await your return.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Just review Total Divas and rate the segments.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Scott's reviews were my only link to current wrestling. Oh well, Bring on the NJPW and Mid-South!

    ReplyDelete
  113. I read this paragraph as "I know you're burnt out, but I think you should keep doing it because I don't want to watch the show myself! And if you don't, I'm leaving" Did I read that wrong?

    ReplyDelete
  114. Or maybe we can induct Scott into the first ever BoD Raw Rant Hall Of Fame and start a "ONE MORE RANT!!! ONE MORE RANT" chant

    ReplyDelete
  115. Do you need a Halls?

    ReplyDelete
  116. I'm the Mountie and the Mountie always gets his man!! Great, now that's gonna be stuck in my head for a week!

    ReplyDelete
  117. It's a sad day on the BOD.
