TNA?

So now that Hogan and Eric and Pritchard are no longer there, who the hell is booking TNA anyway?

I was watching the RF video Raven shoot yesterday, and I really, really wish they'd bring him in to book/write/produce/whatever now that his wrestling career is for all intents and purposes over.

I believe J-E-double-F is the last man standing as far as creative for that company.  But as you noted, who the hell knows?

They should just go for broke and hire Raven, Jake Roberts and Scott Hall to book the shows, with whoever is sober that day getting control.  You would NEVER get a boring show.

Comments

  1. "IT DOESNT MATTER WHOS BOOKING FOR TNA!"

    ReplyDelete
  2. I think Raven has stated that he's been clean and sober for over a decade now. Unless he relapsed a couple of times that I'm unaware of. He always said that he got cleaned up during his second ECW run.
During his appearance on the Austin podcast a couple of weeks ago, Joey Styles said he had seen Raven and didn't think he'd kept in ring shape. Seems like he'd be an easy call as an agent in TNA at the very least and would be receptive if he's no longer actively wrestling.

    ReplyDelete
  3. IIRC Raven is also diabetic, which is really tough to control on the road. I'd have Raven, Hall and Jake all booking via Skype, for safety.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Please give the pencil to a coked out of his mind Kevin Sullivan and Vince Russo on LSD.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Being a diabetic is news to me. I know he had problems with his thyroid a few years back. I still think he could do it, even if he has diabetes. Its not like TNA is on the road all that much.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Did Lagana get the boot at some point?

    ReplyDelete
  7. I was thinking the same thing although I guess it's easy for us to say since we don't know the severity of his beetis and don't have to deal with it ourselves. Would be awesome if that happened though. I always thought Raven seemed like a good candidate to transition from wrestler into successful booker/backstage person.

    ReplyDelete
  8. He now has type 2 diabetes. Given the stories Danny Doring told about his eating habits on the road, I not surprised

    ReplyDelete
  9. On my iTunes my episodes skip from 49 to 54 with the Xpac interviews. Am I missing episodes in between somehow? I don't see a Joey styles one anywhere

    ReplyDelete
  10. Its split into two shows now. A clean show which usually appears on Tuesday and a blue one that comes out on Thursday. Joey was on the clean one.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I have a friend that has type 2 and all he really needs to do is watch his blood sugar and what he eats. I don't see how that would prevent him from doing the job.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Everyone from 2009 onward who said they would never watch TNA with Hogan and Bischoff there (the same ones from 2006 to 2009 that said they wouldn't watch with Russo there) are out of excuses.

Unless they're refusing to watch until Dixie sells.

  13. Charismatic e-Negro Jef VinsonOctober 30, 2013 at 12:10 PM

His is not so much relapsing is dealing with health issues stemming from long term drug use, IIRC.
I would love to see him book TNA.

    ReplyDelete
  14. It wouldn't prevent him at all. Type 1 is insulin dependent an that is difficult to manage but type 2 can be managed just like your friend

    ReplyDelete
  15. I haven't been watching much wrestling lately but I might give TNA a look to see what direction they might go in with different creative.

    ReplyDelete
  16. He can't do cardio... I heard his knee has been bothering him...

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yeah, but if Scott didn't ignore that fact he couldn't take a shot at three guys who have or are in the process of getting clean.

    ReplyDelete
  18. With them gone, maybe try to lure Cornette back, he can hardly do any worse than what we've been getting so far.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Charismatic e-Negro Jef VinsonOctober 30, 2013 at 12:28 PM

I'd let him book a refurbished tag division, but not the whole show.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'd bring Raven in to book and have Hall as an agent.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Krispy Kreme McDonaldOctober 30, 2013 at 12:29 PM

Sooooo... basically use what I said from that build ur territory topic a week ago...

    ReplyDelete
  22. Cornette was a disaster in RoH. I would look elsewhere.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hall would be a great agent. It would be a high-risk, high-reward type of move though.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'd let the DDP-Yoga gang book

    -DDP for match structure
    -Hall for ideas
-Jake to aid with ring psychology
-Richards for the midcarders who need help developing personalities

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hall's appearance on the Austin podcast turned me into a huge Hall mark. If it wouldn't compromise his sobriety I think Hall should definitely be an agent. Assuming TNA is around in a year (and I'd be shocked if it wasn't) I think he could be brought in then.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Idk why the hell you are getting down voted. Thanks for the help!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yeah, downvotes for helping someone out is foolish.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Krispy Kreme McDonaldOctober 30, 2013 at 12:46 PM

Given that he is always eatin in his shoots... that and he always is in hot room.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Krispy Kreme McDonaldOctober 30, 2013 at 12:47 PM

    Lol I got the reference.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Krispy Kreme McDonaldOctober 30, 2013 at 12:49 PM

Matter of fact I dont think bisch is gone.

His son is still on payroll right?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Charismatic e-Negro Jef VinsonOctober 30, 2013 at 12:51 PM

    Yep...for now.

hey said Jason Hervey was still there as well, and that's Eric B's business partner.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Raven and Dusty Rhodes are on the short list of guys who haven't been on Austin's show yet that should be booked on the show immediately.

    ReplyDelete
  33. People hate clean shows apparently. The clean show's not even that clean, he just refuses to say a couple of four letter words on that version but it's not like that show could be broadcast on Radio Disney or anything so people shouldn't be too mad about that.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I think you could have Cornette as part of a creative team - assuming he can get along well with others (which is a big assumption). I don't think giving him the whole book would be a good idea.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Maybe they're just refusing to watch until they actually show some indication of competence, regardless of who's in charge.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I wouldn't put him in charge of the booking but I would definitely make him a commentator since it's not like Taz is valuable to the company or anything. It would also be a great way to keep him around for the long haul without driving him insane and driving him out of the company.
Putting Cornette in a booking environment is just asking for him to snap.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think Scott would back me up when I say that, throughout 2012, save for Claire Lynch and the involvement of Brooke, TNA was a very solid product. Yet, you'd still find people saying they wouldn't eat from the vast salad bar, just because they don't like that there's black olives in one of the trays.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I think Hall burned a lot of bridges after some of his antics in TNA, but I could be wrong there.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Ugh. No thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  40. According to sources, he is no longer going to any events.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryOctober 30, 2013 at 1:30 PM

"Disaster" is being nice about it.

    ReplyDelete
  42. If they were seriously thinking about hiring these guys, youd think workibg from home would be the best move if possible. Thrusting addicts back into their old environment is typically not a good idea, plus it would lessen the amount of "babysitting" TNA would feel obligated to do. Its not optimal, but bring them on as part time consultants to the agents or booking team and go from there.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Sometimes. I've got a lot of Type I's in the family and it is definitely different from Type II, which is generally less severe. The wild card with Type II is the cause; while Type I is a genetic autoimmune problem, Type II can be genetic, lifestyle or just bad luck. Raven's addiction issues probably make his disease harder to manage before even getting into the problems he'd have getting care as I doubt he was insured.

  44. Krispy Kreme McDonaldOctober 30, 2013 at 1:45 PM

Keep counting tommy... cuz its about to get really bad withhogan during the early summer of 98.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I would expect its mostly Jarrett and Borash doing the booking. If I was there I'd look at some of the talent with the company who might do a good job booking. Maybe give Bully, Daniels, Joe, Sting, among others a shot at being booker.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryOctober 30, 2013 at 2:22 PM

Letting Bubba Ray book wouldn't be the worst idea in the world.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryOctober 30, 2013 at 2:23 PM

Stevie Richards? He's doing DDP yoga now?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Come join us in the Live Impact thread, fun is had by all and lots of GIFs of Brooke's ass.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I like black olives, they're tasty.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryOctober 30, 2013 at 2:37 PM

I'm a green olive man myself.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I wish you could like posts the same way you can like comments :(

    ReplyDelete
  52. Honestly, Scott, that's not a terrible idea.

Bring DDP and his yoga guys up. Roberts and Hall can run creative, and DDP can be the liaison between talent and creative.

If they do the Impact style tapings instead of touring, you're not asking the problem guys to go on the road much at all.

TNA doesn't have to be much; it just needs to be an alternative to the stuff that people are tired of in the WWE. I don't care if they have big stars; keep the budget small, produce good wrestling shows, and MAYBE bring in the occasional superstar for a temporary run. Keep bringing up new talent, and eventually you'll strike gold.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryOctober 30, 2013 at 2:40 PM

You can, click on the star.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Those interviews with Bischoff blowing Hogan in the middle of the ring were the worst.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Getting Wayne from the Wonder Years far, far away from the product would be a good place to start.

    ReplyDelete
  56. same here, make taco salads better

    ReplyDelete
  57. With the DDP guys in Atlanta already, just move the tapings to something like the old Center Stage. Atlanta has one of the best airport infrastructures* and it should be no problem getting in talent from all over the globe.
*in terms of having lots of destinations. In terms of passenger experience, they need Chicago running them.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Wasn't Prichard booking then? It was certainly a coherent if decompressed product. Maybe let Prichard back to book, this time hiring a B-school guy to do the contracts and piddling HR stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  59. All thumbs down for Miz reference.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryOctober 30, 2013 at 3:48 PM

Nagata vs. Flynn... welcome to my nightmare.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryOctober 30, 2013 at 4:01 PM

I'm sure I'm not the only one that immediately thinks of Wilford Brimley every time this subject is brought up, right? Right?

    ReplyDelete
  62. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryOctober 30, 2013 at 4:02 PM

I didn't either until I started posting the ROH reviews.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Eric B broke up with Rakim?? Tell me that ain't no joke!!

    ReplyDelete
  64. I'm really looking forward to 1999. I watched them as a kid but I want to see how bad it can really get.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Krispy Kreme McDonaldOctober 30, 2013 at 4:23 PM

At first it was good heel heat.

It just became week after week of "WELCOME TO THE HOUSE THAT HOLLYWOOD BUILT!!!"

and I know bischoff was shooting when he said it. Im not saying it wasnt true but damn.... come on with the fellatio.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Savage voting against DDP joining the Wolfpack was the last thing the nWo or Wolfpack did that truly entertained me.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Krispy Kreme McDonaldOctober 30, 2013 at 4:26 PM

I pretty much checked out wrestling as a whole once I graduated highschool in 99, so anything after april or may and im lost until 01.

And then im just ppv only. I never saw wwf in 2000 or wcw for that matter. I was watching ecw by then.

    ReplyDelete
  68. He would kiss Hogan on the head and Bischoff would look near orgasm.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Hell, bring in Dreamer. Paul E. taught a lot of his lieutenants aboout booking.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Krispy Kreme McDonaldOctober 30, 2013 at 4:27 PM

I thought it was just a lil nice nod to continuity and thats it. Cuz savage was gone by july of 98 with the knee injury.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I kinda like there being SOMEONE in wrestling shorter than me.
    Okay, Rey Mysterio and Taz...

    ReplyDelete
  72. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryOctober 30, 2013 at 4:38 PM

Supposedly the House of Hardcore cards Dreamer has been booking have been pretty good.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Raven was clean for his whole wwe and tna runs.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Booking or storylines isn't the problem. It's the wrestling talent. Its the one way they could compete with WWE. There is no excuse for watching guys like Hero, Cesaro, Bryan, Ambrose, Rollins etc etc year after year until WWE finally decides to snatch them up.

    ReplyDelete
  75. True. I was referencing more Hall and Roberts since theyve recently been sober but yea, Raven you think wouldnt be an issue.

    ReplyDelete
  76. And what if I'm too lazy to go back and look that up?

    ReplyDelete
  77. Garrett is still around!

    ReplyDelete
  78. I think he meant Chris Benoit.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryOctober 30, 2013 at 5:08 PM

I still don't get the meaning behind the Benoit/Richards joke.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Not only that, he worked in creative for WWECW a little and did booking stuff with developmental. Dreamer is a no brainer for someone to bring in as booker or to work as an agent.

    ReplyDelete
  81. On No Mercy, when Big Show got sent to OVW they scrubbed him from the game and subbed in Stevie, so in all the story modes it was Stevie in main events and main eventing WM2K in the 4 way, and I think the joke just grew from that with the Benoit thing.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryOctober 30, 2013 at 5:20 PM

    OK, now I get it.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Unless I'm mistaken the Richards joke is a reference to the N64 No Mercy videogame.
When it was released The Big Show had been sent down to the minors for being out of shape. However, the game reflected many storylines which Show had been involved in. As a result the designers had to pick a character to replace him and they made the rather odd choice of using 'Right To Censor' era Richards.
With Benoit airbrushed from a lot of WWE history, the gag is that Richards replaced him in the many notable events he took part in.

    ReplyDelete
  84. As a Type 1, it can be a pain in the ass to control, but Type 2 can be tough sometimes, too. I always say Diabetes is like chaos theory.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryOctober 30, 2013 at 5:38 PM

Check your blood sugar, and check it often...

    ReplyDelete
  86. Hall and Roberts would definitely come up with some crazy shit.

    ReplyDelete
  87. They've had stretches of being 'solid' and at times 'good'. Sometimes really good. Then they do something stupid like hire Vince Russo, have Kurt Angle beat a red-hot Samoa Joe in their first feud, start a new 'Monday Night War' with an Eric Bischoff acoustic performance, or have Dixie Carter be your top heel.

If it was just a few black olives it would be one thing. Instead they put a few black olives in the salad bar, and when people say 'they don't like black olives' they respond by replacing the lettuce and tomatoes in the salad bar with more black olives.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Scott Hall has 'been in the process of getting clean' for over a decade now.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I agree with this, but TNA has plenty of talent. They should have been spending the money the flushed on Hogan and Sting to sign the guys you mentioned.

    ReplyDelete
  90. How much pull does he have though?

    ReplyDelete
  91. I thought that Delirious was the main booker

    ReplyDelete
  92. I'm pretty much in that crew. As long as Carter is involved, I have little hope in anything more than flashes of brilliance.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Don't know how well Rhodes and Austin get along. Then again, I would have never thought I'd see 3/4's of the Clique on there.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I know Scott is joking, but Raven has been clean for awhile now and Roberts and Hall have DDPYOGA~!

    ReplyDelete
  95. I'm kinda curious about how tall Rey Mysterio ACTUALLY is. I swear that I've seen photos of him shorter than AJ Lee.

    ReplyDelete
  96. For every Roode and Aries, they are a bunch of guys like Gunner, Chavo, Sorenson, Neal, etc etc. Just look at the guys they brought in for the GutCheck. Their eye for talent is terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Charismatic e-Negro Jef VinsonOctober 30, 2013 at 8:27 PM

Actally Rakim never needed Eric to make albums. But Eric had connects on the street and was not to be fucked with. (But that's another story.)

Delirious replaced Cornette about a year ago.

    ReplyDelete
  104. This was the period where I pretty much face up on WCW. nWo Sting made no sense, and clearly was just there to make sure people cheer for Nash's faction.

    ReplyDelete
  105. The Stop & Start Disco pushes were insane in this era. He would be jobbing week after week, and then all of a sudden pick up a big win and be in the hunt for a Title. It was like how WWE pushes everybody NOWADAYS. Hell, one week he even beat WRATH.

I remember the Booker/Benoit matches being SO good at the time- sure they wrestled every week (usually twice), but they often switched up the spots and changed when they did certain things, and reversed each other's stuff. We got a new way to win nearly every match, too- it kept you guessing in the ring, and helped make Booker the superstar he ended up being.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Charismatic e-Negro Jef VinsonOctober 31, 2013 at 6:54 AM

He was the reality show king for awhile. If you haven't seen it check out Hulk Hogan's Celebrity Wrestling.

  109. Who was the one behind bringing in AJ, Joe, Daniels and company originally? Jarrett? Dutch?

THAT's who needs to be in charge of talent.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I was just making a corny joke. . I do know all about them and their issues over the years. There's a really good interview on youtube where Rakim breaks down their business relationship and how they got together. I'm way too lazy to find it right now though..
