  1. Dallas/KC/Det parlay. All three straight up also. ::: prays to gambling gods:::

    ReplyDelete
  2. If you are attending a game on the East Coast, lots o' Carhartt is necessary. It's brutal outside.

Or a balmy day in Scott's native Saskatchewan.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Romo will probably fuck that up for you

    ReplyDelete
  4. Man, I love love love dallas. Gmen have essentially beaten a barrage of 2nd and 3rd string qbs during their "hot" streak. Well see though, Romo might throw 3 picks tho also

    ReplyDelete
  5. So Reggie bush...bust?

    ReplyDelete
  6. I don't get your point here. I'm not debating that he wasn't worth the 2nd pick, I thought he should have gone 1, but when you turn out to be a very average nfl player, at a position that holds little value, he cannot be considered a success

    ReplyDelete
  7. A 1000 rush/500+ receive RB isn't exactly easy to find... especially not one that can do it for multiple seasons.

It's the general decline of the running game, especially in the current rules era, that will make RBs much less valuable in general.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Exactly. So if you're gonna pay him or draft him 2nd overall, he should be an elite player to warrant that selection

    ReplyDelete
  9. Darren Sprouts was more dynamic then he was in NO. Darren Sproles

    ReplyDelete
  10. In New Orleans, he was in a CROWDED backfield, and not a primary rusher.

In Miami, he was featured, and had nearly 2200 yards in two seasons. He's on pace for another 1000 this season, and who knows how much he has left in the tank. I'd call 10K career rushing yards unlikely, but not out of reach.

    ReplyDelete
  11. So you don't think his career has been disappointing?

    ReplyDelete
  12. I forget, was it him or Ricky "even me and jobber think you need to lay off the weed" Williams that the Saints traded their entire draft for?

    ReplyDelete
  13. I know I should want the Browns to lose today for draft position, but god fuck the Steelers and everything about them.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Thought so. Anyway, I'd call Bush a bust, but barely. He shouldn't have been picked that high to begin with.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I think he's at the point where if he had to walk away now, yes, it would be. But he has time to "fix" that.

But until he does, hold off on stuff like that. I do think we, as the viewing public, expect too much too soon from EVERY player, and if they're not the greatest ever, they're a disappointment.

For the role he was drafted in, he did okay in New Orleans. No, not #2 pick good, but then again it's not like he could tell the Saints "Make me a 2nd Round pick instead."

He was good, with flashes of really good, in Miami. And Season 1 in Detroit's been solid so far.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Dude was a dick, but I think that life has evened that score now more than once.

    ReplyDelete
  17. So who do the Saints pick #2 that season?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Man, that was a shitty draft class looking back on it. Probably Vernon Davis, or just trade the pick away.

    ReplyDelete
  19. This us his 8th year I believe, he us what he us at this point. With RBs shelf life being so short, I'd day he's closer to regressing then improving at this point in his career

    ReplyDelete
  20. God fucking damn it stafford.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Ribbing people excessively is clearly the same as being paralyzed and having a stroke.

Karma is part of Eastern philosophy... so is right speech... look that up.

    ReplyDelete
  22. At the time I thought it was a good pick. I agree with you though, I put him in the disappointing/bust category. He's an average nfl RB...that's it. For thee hype, money he's been paid, draft pick position, and lessened value of his position, he's been disappointing.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Titus has a tone of potential they aren't capitalizing on

    ReplyDelete
  24. I never think it's a good idea to pick RBs that high, especially ones that are clearly too small to be an every-down back.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I love your reaps of them... but I don't know how you do it. Even the good ones would bore me to tears in no time.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Yea I agree. Lots of times you can find production at that position in late rounds...Foster, Morris, etc. I'd never sign a BR to big money or draft one high at this point.

Bush was viewed as possibly being transcendent at that point, and it was 8 years ago I think so the league wasn't quote as pass happy as it is now. Didn't mind the pick at that point

    ReplyDelete
  27. People are cutting back. More than you'd think. I'm certainly considering it after football season (if I lived in an area with more over-the-air antenna options I would have).

    ReplyDelete
  28. Great stats. Thanks for the post. I'm a little surprised at how low the merch number is. And say what you want about PPV being a 'distant third' but you don't get rid of your 3rd highest income stream, even if it is a little less than you hope it would be.

    ReplyDelete
  29. JBL and ole are both at their best when they shoot.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Porn-Peddling Jef VinsonNovember 24, 2013 at 12:39 PM

Puh-LEEZE don't fuck this game up, Tomlin.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Time-lag, sure. But the next day? Or the next week? Being "DVR PROOF" to the networks means u watch basically same day. I don't think WWE fans think they need to watch raw the night it is on anymore. Scott and the hulu-watching crowd are evidence of that.

In fact they've pretty much lost me until the Rumble because I know nothing interesting will happen until then because that's how they've trained me.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Thing that gets me is that they knew he wouldn't be an every down back, and wanted to also put him in the slot. I personally would have drafted/signed an actual WR for that role, but hey, I'm not a GM, what do I know...

    ReplyDelete
  33. Huge props for the parks and recs reference.

  34. Porn-Peddling Jef VinsonNovember 24, 2013 at 12:41 PM

    Reggie's career has been weird:

    - Wins National Championship and Heisman - both get taken away
    - One the biggest stage of his career he has a bad game and the cameras focus on Kim Kardashian during the interview.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Yea man. That was always tough for me to reconcile also. Potential injuries due to his size and not being an every down back are two huge strikes right off the bat. The Saints found a good role for him eventually but Darren Sproles has filled the same role for them for like half the cost

    ReplyDelete
  38. The final verdict. .75 Murphy

    ReplyDelete
  39. The Saints had Deuce as the "every-down" back... that is, if he could recover from injury.

  45. Kims ass and Vagina works in mysterious mysterious ways.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Yeah, I didn't mean to belittle it. 14 million isn't chicken feed. It's just that I've seen plenty of people who make comments suggesting or implying that PPV is a massive part/the biggest part of their revenue stream. It was back in the glory days that so many of us love around here, but not any more. The TV rights have risen so much in the last 15 years that PPV is a much smaller part of the pie.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Other than the Falcons and Texans, it looks like NO ONE wants the #1 pick this year.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Who wins in a fight...Calvin Johnson, AP, or leBron?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Adblock is the God damned devil

    ReplyDelete
  50. Who brings the gun? (Yes, I mean an actual firearm.)

    ReplyDelete
  51. Megatron. He's got the size on AP, and I get the feeling that LeBron has never been in a fight in his entire life.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Alternate question: who wins in white guy dork fight...Michael Cole, Joe Buck, or Mike Greenburg?

    ReplyDelete
  53. I bring the loaded firearm to that one, and civilization wins.

    ReplyDelete
  54. The Burleson TD helps me in the league of doom but I'm goinna need a TD to Metagron to help me out in my other leagues.

Steelers/Browns is boring as fuck. I have terrible 1pm games in my area with no Eagles playing this week.

Fortunately we all get Den/NE tonight

    ReplyDelete
  55. Yea. I'd bet Megatron. He's only a few inches shorter then LBJ and is thicker. I could see AP just being fucking indestructible in a fight tho to

    ReplyDelete
  56. So excited for Den/NE

  58. "The cable industry will adapt to the changing market, such is the nature of business."

I really don't think they will. They seem to be standing firm on their way of doing business. That said I don't think it is going to change anytime soon I bet it is at least another decade before "Do you have cable?" is a legitimate question.

    ReplyDelete

I'm actually late for a football party where everyone will be watching the Cowboys/Giants game. but

a.) I still have to go squat and
b.) I could give a fuck about either team.

    ReplyDelete
  85. When I worked at Cablevision a few years ago, I was told by my trainer that the company was in favor of "a la carte" pricing. The people fighting "a la carte" are the cable networks. They make most of their revenue via the bundles and without it, most of them would go under. Truthfully.. a lot of channels would not be around today if not for the bundling and revenue sharing that is in place now.

Cable companies know that people are so addicted to their channels that they stand to make more with "a la carte" than bundles. People would most likely pay more for less.. either way the cable company doesn't really lose. I can't tell you how many times someone would call up and say "I want to take some things off my bill.. it's too high". Once I started going through each item, they usually ended up keeping whatever they had. It even took me a while to give up my channels before I cut the cord around 5 years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Ha. I'm literally on my way out to go do squats/leg day. Yea, if I didnt have money on it I wouldn't give a shit about either team either

    ReplyDelete

  92. Didn't we go over this last week? How quickly does one forget?!

    ReplyDelete
  93. The Panthers need a running game. They ain't going far in the playoffs with D'Angelo Williams running two yards and then falling down when someone breathes on him

    ReplyDelete
  94. Lol. I didn't learn apparently.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I can't stand Greenberg either. I found him to be irritating to the point I couldn't listen to him on the drive to work in the morning and had to go with the local guys.

    ReplyDelete
  96. OMG Brandon LaFell actually caught a pass........and of course it's called back for holding

    ReplyDelete
  97. Browns about to lose 27-3. Glad to see they've settled back to their old ways. Weeden had to come in. He is the worst player I've ever watched in any sport.

    ReplyDelete

Memo to Browns: Philly is about to have a QB available. Sell your soul to get him.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I'd actually root for Cole

    ReplyDelete
  100. Seriously? That was about as legitimate as Ron Paul's campaign for president.

    ReplyDelete
  101. I felt great about Cleveland when Brian Hoyer came in. It shows that even a decent but not great QB with that defense could win games. They can definitely get that back in the off season whether it's Hoyer or through the draft of through a castoff.

    ReplyDelete
  102. It shows how bad the Texans are when Jacksonville is beating them and I'm not even remotely surprised.

Also I'm definitely starting to have buyer's remorse betting on the Giants. I'm going to kick myself 20-30 times for making that bet, I can just feel it.

    ReplyDelete
  103. This weeks slate of nfl games (for me) is like Starrcade 93. The ONLY thing that matters is the main event, but *what* a main event.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Porn-Peddling Jef VinsonNovember 24, 2013 at 1:53 PM

Reggie has a decent career. Ricky gave it all away.

    ReplyDelete
  105. They haven't made a cool shirt in years. I would only wear a WWE shirt to a wrestling event. I wouldn't cut my grass in a WWE T shirt.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Ricky somehow got to 10,000 rushing yards. I actually did a double-take when I saw that.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Porn-Peddling Jef VinsonNovember 24, 2013 at 1:54 PM

Never underestimate the power of Tony Romo blowing a close game.

    ReplyDelete
  108. This Detroit/TB game is a horrific display of football. 2 missed FGs, a blocked punt, an INT and nd fumble all within the last quarter

    ReplyDelete
  109. Yeah it was just a straight numbers bet. Going through the stat model and just reading off the advantage numbers and seeing "NYG moneyline" as the #1 bet on the system. After I placed it in I was like "wait, you just bet money on the 2013 Giants" and instantly felt bad about my life.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Porn-Peddling Jef VinsonNovember 24, 2013 at 1:55 PM

    ..that was a gift, Cleveland.

    ReplyDelete
  111. ... as will be the upcoming two onside kicks and TDs?

    ReplyDelete
  112. Best nfl commentators: I like the team with roaming reporter Tony Sairigusi (sic) and literally HATE ALL OTHERS. I can't fucking stand Chris Collinsworth. He adds nothing to the game. I also used to love listening to Ron Jaworski in ESPN MNF and I'm pissed he got muscled out by Gruden, but Gruden himself isn't terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  113. The only thing Gruden is good for is telling us how Tom Brady's penis tastes since he spent all Monday licking on it.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Been there. My "fuck my life" bets typically have involved the Eagles this year

    ReplyDelete
  115. Vick? Or Foles?

Why would the Brows want Vick? Other than for the obvious hilarity of having someone who abused dogs QBing a team whose mascot is a dog.

    ReplyDelete
  116. So Earl Hebner is reffing in the Dolphins game with these bogus calls

    ReplyDelete
  117. They have three running backs. It's the fucking musical chairs that doesn't let any one of them get on track that hurts the team.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Grudens grown on me. Like 2 times a game he says/analyzes something that I would have never seen or thought about.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Stewart and Williams still don't have it anymore. Cam is their best back which is just sad

    ReplyDelete
  120. I'd rather sign the unholy love child of Jake Delhomme and Matt Schaub than Vick.

Even though said child would throw a pick-six in each half of every game.

    ReplyDelete
  121. If you remember at the time of the draft, the texans GM (Charlie Casserly IIRC) was getting slammed for taking Mario Williams over Reggie Bush. The rumor slipped the night before the draft the direction they were going to go and all hell broke loose.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Still not making the playoffs this year.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Luke Kuechly is highly overrated. If he's up against a good tight end he gets exposed severely. It must be in the announcers contract to put this guy over.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Porn-Peddling Jef VinsonNovember 24, 2013 at 2:03 PM

Vick. Philly fans have a love affair with Foles so let them be dumb enough to let Vick go and have to suffer the irony of playing for a team with a section of the Stadium called the "Dawg Pound"

    ReplyDelete
  125. Porn-Peddling Jef VinsonNovember 24, 2013 at 2:03 PM

They weren't supposed to be where they are now. If they go .500 I'll be happy.

    ReplyDelete
  126. This QB draft is too deep to go for a guy Vick's age with his injury questions. The Browns have an armada of early picks to get a top-flight rookie.

    ReplyDelete
  127. And Matt Stafford makes Lions fans want to see Megatron rip him a new one.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Porn-Peddling Jef VinsonNovember 24, 2013 at 2:07 PM

They can still get a QB in the draft but if they can get a QB then they will sacrifice draft picks to do so. Hell didn't they inquire about Farve?

    ReplyDelete
  129. This Chiefs/Chargers game has been surprisingly entertaining. I don't know if it means that the Chargers were really good all along and just had bad luck or if it shows that the Chiefs are definitely overrated but it just feels like a very even match.

    ReplyDelete
  130. The Chiefs are missing half their pass-rush...

  132. Porn-Peddling Jef VinsonNovember 24, 2013 at 2:13 PM

Good win. Steelers have 5 winnable games left.

    ReplyDelete
  133. In fairness, most of the Chiefs games have been this way. They have just been good at closing out.

    ReplyDelete
  134. A Steelers win is bittersweet cause it means we don't get a Tomlin press conference that doubles as a wrestling promo.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Touchdown Carolina with :46 seconds left

    ReplyDelete
  136. Definitely that's a factor. Chargers have had some weird fluky breaks go against them this year also. They're definitely better than 4-6 but I just can't accurately assess how much better they really are.

    ReplyDelete

Even Jerry Jones is looking at you funny from that statement.

    ReplyDelete
  143. So the Panthers let Mike Wallace get behind them and damn near catch a 70 yard touchdown

    ReplyDelete
  144. I know the Rams contacted Favre. The Browns will likely be picking around 10 and also have Indy's first as well as an extra third-rounder. Bridgewater is going to whatever dogshit team picks first, but there are some bad teams not in the QB market. It's not out of the realm of possibility Manziel or maybe Carr or Boyd are there when the Browns pick.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Chargers/Chiefs isn't over. The Chiefs special teams are killing the Chargers, they're starting every drive on the 40. What a game though.

  152. Relevant article to this on the front page of reddit this morning.

    http://www.businessinsider.com/cord-cutters-and-the-death-of-tv-2013-11

I agree that the TV business is changing for good and that the old days of TV viewership are over. I disagree with the conclusions that Scott and others posted though. Sports are one of the biggest and maybe ONLY draws that the cable and TV industry has left. It's not just that other shows are also available on Netflix or Hulu, they're better in those formats. Sports are different because the live aspect has real value that delayed format loses out on and internet streaming options, even by major providers just aren't as good with.

If WWE can effectively brand themselves as being similar to sports in that aspect then they bring real value to TV networks that are lacking value programming. Specifically the way WWE uses social media and "interaction" to make the live experience more valuable. The Hulu version may be better to us since it cuts out half the crap but still there's content missing that you can only get live.

I think WWE's value is actually increasing in this TV environment even with their 2.8-3.0 ratings. They won't get triple the TV revenue but if they can expand on this case that I made for them in 5 minutes they can definitely get some kind of a revenue increase.

  153. I'm at the gym so can't really check...wasn't KC drive g late for a tying fg? They miss it?

  154. Matt Flynn is going to go into McNabb mode after the game with the "I didnt know NFL games could tie" routine. Horrible clock management

    ReplyDelete
  155. They didn't get past their own 40.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Flynn has done well though, not sure how he washed out of 3 teams.

    ReplyDelete
  157. The one time in the game they didn't get good field position off a kickoff. They had 20 seconds to get 50 yards or so and just ran out of time

  158. I knew Aaron Rodgers was good but he's looking like a football god now just by not playing.

    ReplyDelete
  159. I thought that was a lock...at home, coming off a loss. Guess a divisional game vs an underrated SD team was the correct logic.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Actually he's looking like Tom Selleck right now.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Seattle was obvious, shitty O-Line in Oakland didn't do him any favors, and E.J Manuel came back before he could really do anything.

  162. (Bob Miller voice)

And this match ends in... a draw. A draw.

  163. The Packers really aren't helping themselves playoffs-wise.

    ReplyDelete
  164. They really can't go down from Campbell and Weeden. There's like 10 qbs that are supposed to be first rounders. The Browns will offer course take the Todd Blackledge of the group.

  165. Advertisers have figured out that if you're watching something dvred, you're skipping ads. Very soon, watching something live will be the only number that matters.

    ReplyDelete
  166. In Cowboys/Giants and Broncos/Patriots I'm rooting for more ties, just because I don't want any of those teams to ever win.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Cardinals bending the Colts over the bench...

    ReplyDelete
  168. This tie was as good as a win for them.

    ReplyDelete
  169. Uh...no. They genuinely got people to drink the Kool Aid throughout 1992.

    ReplyDelete
  170. The rule to reduce unfairness from the overtime coin toss will likely result in at least one extra tie per year.

    Fair tradeoff?

    ReplyDelete
  171. I couldn't watch 10 minutes of one of them, but the recaps are fantastic.

    ReplyDelete
  172. I cut cable recently. Don't miss it in the least. There's absolutely no value in it for me.

I would sign up again if I could get a handful of channels a la carte for a few dollars per channel or something like that, but otherwise not interested. And from my limited understanding, most of the channels that I would be interested in would die in an a la carte environment, so I won't hold my breath.

  173. I say just play a fifth quarter. Instead of sudden death or what they have now, just play 15 more minutes.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Yea, I think so. Think this Is the best OT format they can have. Maybe just playing an extra 10 minutes, non sudden death, would be better but there are issues with something like that also.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Do it like the World Cup. Have two five minute extra quarters. If still no winner, then field goal kickoffs from the 10 yard line to determine a winner.

  176. Way to hold Dallas!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  177. Prediction: Packers take it with 7-8-1 record.

    ReplyDelete
  178. I deserve every second of this for betting on the Giants. All I can hope for is some Romo magic in the 4th

    ReplyDelete
  179. I'm not saying that Dynamite deserved this fate, but according to Bad News Brown, one of Dynamite's pranks would include trying to inject air into an artery, which could cause a stroke or heart attack.

  180. Has there been a relevant athlete, who was a consistent starter, in any sport that is worse then Brandon Weedon? I'm sure there are alot but I'm drawing any blank.

    ReplyDelete
  181. Welp that's some NFC East football right there.

    ReplyDelete
  182. Uggla has 1 valuable skill though...He at least can hit the long ball. Besides that he's pretty garbage. Weedon has no above average skill

    ReplyDelete
  183. WTF. I didn't even know that was a rule

    ReplyDelete
  184. 3rd personal foul by Gmen in like 10 minutes...gimme those 15 yds

    ReplyDelete
  185. I would rather have Weedon at 2b than Uggla. That's how much fuck Uggla.
