  38. Flying to the east coast tomorrow night. How's the weather, probably sucks huh?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yo Jobb, what's up?

Depends. North east or down south?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Going out to Flemings for Xmas dinner... meh

    ReplyDelete
  41. Hey buddy your back! North east

    ReplyDelete
  42. From what I've read (prepping my NFL gambling), it's going to be shitty.

    ReplyDelete
  43. My phone says its 50 degrees in ct where I'm going but that sounds impossible

    ReplyDelete
  44. Yeah, it's not cold in that area but there's major rain expected.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Doing a little gift exchange with some friends tonight. Quick question. Would you give a couple one gift together or separate gifts?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Anyone I actually like I have picked them some liquor. Anyone I don't was left to my (much cheaper) gf

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  50. Thinking of checking out Wolverine tonight with my free rental from M-GO ( http://getridofcable.net/streaming-media/rid-cable-reviews-mgo/
    ‎) was it any good?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Kobe!!! BTW, the Lakers are way better without him at this stage. Can't believe they gave him that contract.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Depends on the couple, how long they have been a couple, how serious it is etc...

    ReplyDelete
  53. Yea. League pass is gonna get the nod fpr tonight

    ReplyDelete
  54. Not really. It was 80 here in the south east today, 50 up there doesn't seem unreasonable

    ReplyDelete
  55. Think you're gonna edge me in fantasy this week. Your FT shooting was fucking like 90% yesterday. We're pretty close in almost everything else. Start bricking dome FTs dwighg

    ReplyDelete
  56. My cable guide gives out 3/4 but I wouldn't be that generous. I was flipping through and it just started. Figured I'd change the channel by now

    ReplyDelete
  57. Yeah quite awhile I'd think. Some are married.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I hate that NBA TV is showing Cavs-Bulls instead of Spurs-Thunder.

    ReplyDelete
  59. At this point they can play Kobe OR Gasol but not both. The team has fully bought into D'Antoni fast run around and jack up 3s style ball but having Kobe+Gasol slows it down too much and the other guys aren't good enough to play traditional matchup ball (which is why guys like Young, Henry, Williams, Johnson all washed out and wound up on the Lakers to begin with).

By the time Kobe comes back Pau will probably be traded so the problem will have solved itself.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Perfectly acceptable then.

    Are the wives happy? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  61. It was the right thing to do. He earned every penny. Not kobes fault the NBA has such a shitty CBA. He was one of the biggest hawks in the lock out. Its better for every star that he took that deal. Besides, oh boo hoo the Lakers can pay any luxury tax they want and still make money off their local cable deal alone

    ReplyDelete
  62. Not if Nash comes back. Can you imagine if they can't unload Gasol? Nash, Gasol and Kobe...

    ReplyDelete
  63. I love Kobe but him getting hurt is the best thing for them trade pau, tank for a top 7 pick. Next year you have kobe, a max FA and a top 7 pick and go from there. They'd be fighting for an 8th seed with Kobe which is the worst place you can be in the nba

    ReplyDelete
  64. Sports is a meritocracy. I don't want the Heat giving Wade a max contract in a year.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I'm assuming Nash is being pressured to "do the right thing" and retire due to injury. If he doesn't play anymore this year he'll get his money, the team won't be on the hook for his 9 million on the cap next year and he won't embarrass himself anymore.

I don't see why he'd even want to come back and play 18 minutes a game and get targeted by every team in the league anyways.

You're right though, that's a definite worst case scenario for the team.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Yeah but I needed to crush your team. I'm in a dog fight with Jeanie busses Playboy and a 5-4 puts me behind him I think. I dunno I love my team and don't see much I can do with free agents, but my illyasova for brewer swap seems questionable now

    ReplyDelete
  67. They SHOULD rest Kobe, trade Pau and try to tank but I don't think they can. I don't know if this team can tank successfully. I have a theory that a properly constructed D'Antoni team can't win fewer than 30 games whether they try to tank or not. Nick Young and the 3 point bombers guys are just jacking up shots and if they go in, the team will win games as long as they aren't playing vs. elite teams. Like last night vs. Minnesota, they just kept shooting. Went cold in one quarter (2nd IIRC) but the shots went in down the stretch and they won. They've already knocked off some decent teams (Clips and Houston) just by shooting and crossing their fingers so I don't think it'll stop any time soon.

The Lakers are up there with the 76ers on my "just stop betting on or against them" list this year. Their games don't make sense from a math standpoint. Although they're getting blown out by 20+ tonight vs. GSW you can bet on that.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Yea. Both you guys kinda got the shafts. 2 best overall records being in the same division

    ReplyDelete
  69. Shin Soo Choo got a $130 million contract. I was a fan when he played for the Indians and understand the value he brings....but that seems ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  70. This got down voted the second I posted it. There's no way someone could have even read the pos.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Yea, I tend to agree with you on the D'antoni thing. Such a powerful regular season system. Hate him, and the system.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Lakers take pride in being obtuse like that. When Magic got HIV, Buss made him the highest paid player for a year he wasn't playing anyways just because he felt Magic had earned it and that the team took advantage of him earlier.

By wildly overpaying Kobe when he's going to be a broken player it's like they're continuing Dr.Buss's legacy. They honor their debts to the legends.

    ReplyDelete
  73. See I'm anti couples getting one gift. I want my own present, you'd figure someone else would too. Besides you know in a couples gift the girl is just gonna take it anyways. My gf shopped and insisted on couples gifts but I thought that was lame so my two buddies I bought bottles for I got their gfs something different. She doesn't know that yet but I'm sticking to my guns.

I don't know how happy they are but one of them is way hot

    ReplyDelete
  74. From what I was told in this thread, there's some loser from NPP that sits here all night, doesn't post and downvotes. What an awesome way to spend a Saturday night!?!

    ReplyDelete
  75. That would be the highest nba and nfl contract in guaranteed money also I think. Baseball's union get it right

    ReplyDelete
  76. He's apparently weighs over 300 lbs also fwiw

    ReplyDelete
  77. Porn-Peddling Jef VinsonDecember 21, 2013 at 7:21 PM

    ReplyDelete
  78. Ah, that guy from NPP correct?

    ReplyDelete
  79. Porn-Peddling Jef VinsonDecember 21, 2013 at 7:21 PM

It was 65 degrees in Jersey today.

    ReplyDelete
  80. They didn't have a debt with Kobe. He was already the highest paid player in the league for years running. It was a bad basketball decision and from what I've read, despite the money the Lakers have, they don't plan on being a high luxury tax team. And who the fuck wants to go and play with Kobe anyways? The dude is a jack ass who won't share the ball until they pry it from his cold dead hands.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Separate gifts. There are only a few useful joint gifts and they're typically household things. I can't really get excited about that

    ReplyDelete
  82. Porn-Peddling Jef VinsonDecember 21, 2013 at 7:23 PM

Fuck all who downvoted. You probably liked "One More Day."

    ReplyDelete
  83. Why the Melo to LA stuff is laughable to me. Can you imagine those 2 together?

    ReplyDelete
  84. I read something awhile ago that said that Kobe (even at 30 million/year) was the most underpaid player in league history measured by (revenue created - salary paid). On ratio it's LeBron, also most underpaid in league history.

Conservatively Kobe was worth over 100 million per year to the Laker franchise over the past few years. If you try and assign him extra value towards the 2 billion dollar TV deal they signed it could be magnitudes higher than that.

    The team seemed to agree.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Porn-Peddling Jef VinsonDecember 21, 2013 at 7:25 PM

They money they were gonna make by having him pass Mike in the record books was gonna be worth it.

    ReplyDelete
  86. On merit he earned it. First team all NBA last season, 27/6/6 carried that team to the playoffs, came back from an achillies in 7 months, and then played fucking pg! Plays he too a 20% pay cut. That's on the court shit. Off court his value to the Lakers can't be measured. If wade takes a penny less than the max he hurts every other player

    ReplyDelete
  87. That's not what a meritocracy means.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Porn-Peddling Jef VinsonDecember 21, 2013 at 7:26 PM

First one? Yes. Second one? No.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Yeah as a Laker fan that's like my worst nightmare. We don't want Melo. Kobe would likely have him killed by the 30th game of the season anyways. Nobody on that team would play defense and they'd miss the playoffs every year. After someone clued in Jimmy Buss that LeBron wasn't coming to this tire fire under any circumstance might as well just give Kobe his money, make him happy and wait for 2015-2016 and try for Kevin Love or the Durant/Westbrook class.

    ReplyDelete
  90. We're not talking value though. The discussion should take place within the system that exists. In this system and at 35 years of age after the injury he suffered, you don't give that money.

    ReplyDelete
  91. He'll still pass Jordan. If he comes back in 6 weeks he might even pass him this year. He's less than 600 away. He won't pass Kareem unless he plays well for the 2 years he's signed and plays 2 extra years after that though. That dream is dead.

    ReplyDelete
  92. The Lakers have more money than half the teams combined too. Just eat the tax and take care of guys like that.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Read a similar article after LBJ for at year in miami. Taking into account of economic value to the city, tv deal increases, franchise increased value, etc. They claimed lbj was worth at least like 88 million a year

    ReplyDelete
  94. I saw the first one in the theater but missed the second... I didn't hear much at all about it... they really need to do an R rated Wolverine movie so it can be appropriately violent

    ReplyDelete
  95. He'll pass Jordan, but it won't mean a thing. He couldn't wear MJ's jock on his best day.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Porn-Peddling Jef VinsonDecember 21, 2013 at 7:29 PM

They are close friends in real life. To be honest I was surprised that Kobe didt get traded to NY before he broke his leg.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Porn-Peddling Jef VinsonDecember 21, 2013 at 7:30 PM

With all the implied trim that he was getting they need to do an R-rated Gambit movie.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Yea, the peripheral stuff all ages sense. Lala in LA, the fact they're cool, Lakers will have the money, but it just seems like such a clash of styles on the court to me. Not sure if they'd be a great fit together

    ReplyDelete
  99. The papers are saying 4 weeks though. I think Kobe gets too around 36,500. Just short of cap but the most for a guard

    ReplyDelete
  100. Porn-Peddling Jef VinsonDecember 21, 2013 at 7:31 PM

    It depends on the coach.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Completely agreed. It means something to him though. That's all he's playing for at this point anyways, historical stat padding (in a sport that doesn't take its history all that seriously). And they can sell some merchandise off of it which seems to be Jimmy Buss's goal for the team (making money).

    ReplyDelete
  102. There's not a coach on earth, Phil Jackson included, that can make Kobe and Melo play well together. They both take too many shots, always have, always will.

    ReplyDelete
  103. I think we have had this discussion before, but I'll never understand why Gambit is so over; the character does nothing for me

    ReplyDelete
  104. Porn-Peddling Jef VinsonDecember 21, 2013 at 7:33 PM

    He was knocking down Rogue.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Or he's one of greatest ever and the staples center and LA live is thanks to him. Why should the buss family rake in 9 figures off Kobe and pay him peanuts. GO BACK TO MOSCOW COMMIE

    ReplyDelete
  110. Kobe played on the Lebron rotation while Melo played with Chris Paul. They didn't play together all that much. They're shooters, not distributors although when Kobe wants to, he can distribute. Melo? Never has.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Porn-Peddling Jef VinsonDecember 21, 2013 at 7:34 PM

"There are only a few useful joint gifts and they're typically household things."

    Like the aforementioned sex toys.

    ReplyDelete
  112. What's thanks to Kobe? The Staples center?

    ReplyDelete
  113. On my phone amd didn't want to scroll down but the play for the Lakers is Love amd Westbrook in 2 years. I don't know if they can go into "suck" mode amd hoard their cap momey until next year when they need to sell out Staples

    ReplyDelete
  114. Just got home and found my package of shoot interviews that I ordered from RF Video. They take a while to deliver

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  117. I thought they got eliminated in the 1st round of the play-offs....

    ReplyDelete

They matched up against the eventual NBA Champs both years. The year they got Chauncey they avoided them until the second round.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Yeah, in Mass it is going to be 32 Christmas Eve so give or take 5 degrees depending where you are

    ReplyDelete
  126. For the record, Melo has gotten past the 1st round of the NBA play-offs once in his career. He's a good scorer, but he's not a great basketball player.

    ReplyDelete
  127. I wouldn't give Choo that many years OR that much money. Guy is a slightly above average hitter and decent fielder. No way is he worth 7 yrs and $130 million
