Sunday NFL Thread

Wasnt up yet.  The 1s look pretty weak.

Yay big guys hitting and tackling each other!!!

Some combination of Cardinals, Patriots, Denver tease is the way to go I think but I've been pretty up and down the past 2 weeks.

Comments

  1. But enough about an Undertaker Kane match. Let's get to football.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Right now, my "dream" scenario is:

    Indy loses out, somehow.
Tennessee goes 1-4/2-3, with one SPECIFIC loss
Jacksonville wins out, WINS the AFC South at 7-9.

The chance of it happening is .(metric fuckton of zeroes)1%... BUT IT'S A CHANCE, DAMNIT!

    ReplyDelete
  3. Thanks for putting it up. Slept late today. Also, thanks for Stranger in the Alps for putting up the Saturday Night Thread last night. I went to put it up on my phone at 9 but it was already up.

So you guys know, the 1995 WWE Timeline with Kevin Nash won the vote by 49%. It will be up by Thursday.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I hate that Indy team. Think they're pretty useless

    ReplyDelete
  5. YAY! No murderous rampages from certain Nash fanatics... well, not more than usual at least.

    ReplyDelete
  6. So with Meekin disappearing, I've been pimping this idea out...have BoD members rotate doing it on a weekly basis. The QOTD is such a broad idea that I think it'd be cool to have diverse topics, opinions, discussions, for it. It'd keep the idea fresh. Just have people volunteer to do it for a week, the switch to someone else. It'd cool to read a parallax week, vinson week, Pat Patterson prolpased week, Baker week, Beard money week, etc. When you run out of volunteers just recycle them or have 1 person take it over.

    Terrible idea? Good idea?

    ReplyDelete
  7. Seems okay. Is Meekin officially gone or just busy?

    ReplyDelete
  8. I'm not sure. Haven't seen him since that Welker question that he took some criticism for. The consensus is he's gone, but I don't think anyone knows for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  9. That was a weird QOTD choice

    ReplyDelete
  10. Sure was. They've gotten weaker and weaker the last few weeks imo. Guess there are only so many before the well runs dry

    ReplyDelete
  11. People are dropping like flies around here

    ReplyDelete
  12. davidbonzaisaldanamontgomeryDecember 1, 2013 at 11:55 AM

I need to snap my two-game losing streak in Fuj's league and stay alive for a first-round bye. I MUST DEFEND MY TITLE

    ReplyDelete
  13. Don't pawn this off as your idea motherfucker we were talking about it in the thread last night! :: BOWS UP ::

    ReplyDelete
  14. Th QOTD's are slowly becoming something that a single person can't get a firm grip on.

    ReplyDelete
  15. MY TEAM FROM LOCAL COLLEGE WAS NOT VICTORIOUS OF THEIR RIVAL YESTERDAY BUT THEY PLAYED HARD! HOWEVER IN TODAYS EVENT THE SPECIFIC TEAM I SUPPORT WILL NOT ONLY EMERGE VICTORIOUS OVER THEIR SPECIFIC OPPOSITION THEY WILL DEFEAT THEM BY SUCH A LARGE AMOUNT OF POINTS THEY WILL DISBAND AS A TEAM IN DISGRACE AS WE LAUGH ND MAKE LOVE TO THEIR WIVES! AND THEIR FANS SUCK AND ARE FAT!

    ReplyDelete
  16. They always have been... like I have a hard time thinking of like 5 of them, I can't imagine doing it day in and day out

    ReplyDelete
  17. I am Chris Walker

    ReplyDelete
  18. It was a great idea when Curry and I came up with it last night...

    ReplyDelete
  19. :::Low Blow to the Nuts::: yea, i did think of it after seeing you and Curry talking about sharing it. Even geniuses need some inspiration at times!
There are only so many qotd topics i think one person can explore, rotating it would keep it fresh and explore diverse interets i think.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Married women the world over will mourn a blow to my nuts

    ReplyDelete
  21. while married men cheer!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Nah, generally I get them on my side also. Hell I have even had one guy ask me to spend time with his wife because she is lonely and needs a friend. Stupid chump.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I JUST checked out the "community" tab that shows the top 20 posters after being alerted to it last night. Where has this been all my life?

    ReplyDelete
  24. A plurality and not a majority. Take that Nash you heightist motherfucker!

    ReplyDelete
  25. You are now going to go on a rampage today to try and pass Flair4DaGold amirite? I assume it is because you want a good look at my ass. Homo. (Note: There is nothing wrong with that)

    ReplyDelete
  26. They have slowly gotten worse IMO. I dont blame Meekin, he seems like a good writer who puts in the effort. I think it just needs a different voice and perpective to freshen it up. there are only so many quetions one person can pump out before the well runs dry.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Stranger in the AlpsDecember 1, 2013 at 12:22 PM

Well, if the BoD would create some new stars instead of relying on the older ones, we wouldn't have this problem. *yuk yuk*

    ReplyDelete
  28. Something about how it's hard for one person to do and that you could only think of five off the top of your head.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Top 5 or bust. Its bullshit because you and Vinson are such active posters that Fuj is the only one I can possibly catch, unless you or Vinson go on a sabbatical. I dont forsee this happening

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yeah, that's why I like your idea of giving the job to someone different every week.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Is this a true story? Did you eventually sleep with her? Worst move EVER by him

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm not going for anyone's spot, just want to at least be in the top 20.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Riverboat Ron strikes again!!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Not new news but Brandon Weedon is soooo fucking bad. im convinced the Browns are trying to lose out to get a better draft pick at this point. Not that I dont advocate this, but Weedon should never start another nfl game ... EVER

    ReplyDelete
  35. This is what Cleveland has put out since they came back. It's not like he's the worst ever.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yea, thats a steaming pile of shit, infected with an STD, covered in vaginal blood. Of all the guys who have started a decent amount of games in 1 year, Weedon and Pederson are the worst IMO.
    Im driving the Hoyer bandwagon

    ReplyDelete
  37. Side tangent: Simmons wrote that the Browns first round 2 years ago, the Weedon/Richardson round, might be the worst draft ever of a team with multiple high picks. Think hes right

    ReplyDelete
  38. At this point I say stick a back in there and just run the wildcat. It can't be any worse than what they have.

I'd stick with Hoyer too cause there is no one to tank for this year, imo

    ReplyDelete
  39. At this point it's looking like it. The other contenders off the top of my head are The Redskins with Courtney Brown and LaVar Arrington, and The Colts with Quentin Coryatt and Trev Alberts.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I forgot about that Colts draft. I think that was the one the Colts GM killed Kiper after Kiper criticized him for not taking Dilfer, IIRC. Arringotn at least had a few decent year but overall that was a huge disappointment also.

    ReplyDelete
  41. This is a true story... shit I often hung out with the three of them. To be fair this was early in my scumbaggery and I didn't go into it with this intention but as time went on stuff started to develop, I even resisted at first, but that seemed to make her want it more and eventually shit happened and we did it for several months before he caught on that she was sleeping with "someone".

I would seriously never suggest my wife go hang out with some dude no matter how much I trust either of them... stuff happens, people are human, and anyone can have a moment of weakness.

    ReplyDelete
  42. You've got some work to do...

    ReplyDelete
  43. If you got two picks in the top five it seems really hard to screw that up. You have to at least get one of them right.

I remember that Kiper thing, It's not like Dilfer was the right answer either

    ReplyDelete
  44. I was in the same boat when it was top 4 instead of 5... I would have had to pass Fuj in order to crack the list because Vinson posts so often I am always 300 - 600 posts behind him.

As for you, you are a B+ poster... like I can see you holding the BoD TV title or something but you aren't cut out to play with the big boys... I mean no one would even recognize you walking through the BoD airport.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Though if I were into Football I could probably catch Vinson

    ReplyDelete
  46. Yea, with the value of nfl first rounders, its unexcusable to screw up 2 top 5 picks. Stuff like that sets franchises back 5+ years.
If Lavarr and Venus kid isnt a future professinal athlete Ill lose faith in humanity. Kid hit the genetic lottery

    ReplyDelete
  47. Yea, sounds like she was gonna cheat either way with someone.
couldnt agree more with your last paragraph. People have needs, shit happens, people are human. Just a bad decision by him

    ReplyDelete
  48. The Eagles are KILLING me this year. I grew up in Philly and am a diehard but I cannot pick against them or on them correctly all year.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Im just biding my time, like HHH was doing in 97. Eventually Ill marry Scotts daughter and Ill take over the Blog. When I do, the only guys Ill push are the ones I work out with.

    ReplyDelete
  50. C-

    NEVER COMPLIMENT A RIVAL.

    ReplyDelete
  51. So who will be your Evolution?

    ReplyDelete
  52. But I didn't! I was saying my specific sports team played hard!

    ReplyDelete
  53. You said they won. Taunts should ignore stuff like that. Without the college part, it's a solid B/border B+.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryDecember 1, 2013 at 1:26 PM

I'll probably end up being the only person in the top 20 twice.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryDecember 1, 2013 at 1:29 PM

    This Jets game sucks.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Being a Lions fan and having to cheer for the Vikings is painful

    ReplyDelete
  57. :::still pondering:::

    ReplyDelete
  58. I like Hoyer a lot as a backup. There are some intriguing athletes in this draft. Right now Derek Carr from Fresno is mocking to Cleveland; I don't watch enough college to know if he's any good. I'd kinda like to see Johnny Football as a Brown just because Rob Chudzinski has already proven he can deal with a goof like Cameron Newton and get results.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I think if you have enough of a variety of contributors, you get a little bit more staying power for the feature, because none of us think the same way or find all the same stuff interesting. We all have our quirks. It's just a matter of finding the right rotation of individuals.

But honestly, between the reviews, the open threads and the email questions, do we really NEED a QOTD? I think everyone started to feel like some of the threads were starting to get redundant (even though the QOTD usually helped me get through boring periods at work).

Honestly, I kind of figured the "What If" segments had replaced the QOTD already.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Yea, I hear ya. I still liked it because it was a non wrestling thread just to bullshit around it. It's definitely been around for around while tho so can see if it was growing a little stale

    ReplyDelete
  61. I think we can have the same effect with a daily open thread and just let the crazy bastards that populate the BoD run rampant in the comics section.

I'm still wishing for a weekly comics thread to discuss books every Wednesday (or there-abouts, since I never actually read my comics the day they come out anymore). With a daily open thread, there's the ability to talk about anything, without the stigma of a thread jack.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Well, Jacksonville won... but so did Indy and New England. And Carolina won, keeping the pressure on the Saints this Monday.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I see what you did there.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Don't look now, but the Vikings and Bears game is getting pretty awesome

    ReplyDelete
  65. Minnesota Tie Kings?

    ReplyDelete
  66. Damn near got another tie, but they won, thankfully

    ReplyDelete
  67. That games gonna be fun

    ReplyDelete
  68. I shouldn't be surprised but it's amazing how in a matter of weeks the Jets looked like a that probably was going secure a Wild Card to now securing a top 5-10 Draft spot.

    ReplyDelete
  69. If only Anderson panned out for them.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I'd like to see an Open Thread on the blog where anyone can talk about what the fuck they want.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Just got back from gym so missed some shit...did the Cardinals get some garbage time scores to cover???? Love it. Or did they have a chance to win?

    ReplyDelete
  72. Looking at the PbP: Arizona had one chance to tie/win, and only got 5 yards on 4 downs. Philly was "nice" (although you might disagree) in running out the clock (6 plays, 6 yards over the last two minutes starting at the Cardinal 15.)

    ReplyDelete
  73. Thanks. Just read it also. I can't figure out how the cardinals didnt get the ball late if the kept holding g the eagles. Whatever tho, they covered.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Samuels was damn good for a long time with the Redskins. He certainly wasn't a bust.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I am not sure how comfortable Scott will be with that seeing as she is what like 3 or something?

    ReplyDelete
  76. I have wondered why the Saturday evening thread has to be just Saturday's... like why not have a daily thread?

I also say again it is a shame the message board idea didn't work as it would solve most of these issues.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I disagree that she would cheat either way... she just couldn't this.

:: Does THE CRAB pose ::

    ReplyDelete
  78. why didn't it work? How do people really mess that up?

    ReplyDelete
  79. Personally I didn't like the format... and I don't think it used disqus login... its still up there beneath the banner, check it out.

Caliber started one off site that was ok, but he didn't really want to drive people away from here to go to it so it didn't last long either.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Ugh, yea that format/interface is not good.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Yeah but apparently there aren't many options for messageboards with Disqus... and Scoot understandably didn't want something hosted off site that he couldn't monetize so it just kind of fizzled out.

    ReplyDelete
  82. That's true. I was thinking the Skins drafted Courtney Brown when I originally typed that.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I think it's because of page hits...even though those live threads get tons of comments, they don't get alot of page hits. I'm not sure exactly how Scott monetizes off of the threads but I know page hits is a factor. Seems like the individual threads collectively do more then 1 big thread.

Or I could just be over thinking it amd nobody's ever thought if just doing an open live thread every night

    ReplyDelete
  84. Peyton Manning is the Lex Luger of football. Wins all his tv matches but you know he's going to do the job when it really counts.

    ReplyDelete
  85. They can never stop playing musical quarterback chairs. Only one guy has done a full 16. At least give a guy a full season with the same coaching staff to see if he can actually play.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I love manning but good comparison.. never thought I'd see a lex luger/manning comparison

    ReplyDelete
  87. Why didn't the NFL flex this KC/Denver game to the late slot? I just got back from a weekend trip and the only football I'm going to get to see now is Giants/Skins. That's a cruel joke, Goodell.

    ReplyDelete
  88. You know if someone didn't know wrestling slang this would be a very confusing post.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Alex Smith is ballin!!! This drive is almost to quick for them

    ReplyDelete
  90. Shit, that's a spot on comparison. Any others you can give? Minus the obvious Brady/Cena

    ReplyDelete
  91. um...nope. All I got

    ReplyDelete
  92. Flacco/Justin Credible. But seriously...how did that guy win a major championship???
    RVD/entire Seahawks roster. The obvious.

Someone could probably come up with lots more.

    ReplyDelete
  93. oh, oh, oh, got one. How about Bret Hart for Brett Favre cause they both went kicking and screaming from their spot.

    ReplyDelete
  94. And they both left the first team they were on for a hated rival to end their careers

    ReplyDelete
  95. I'm trying to think of one for Calvin Johnson, but there's nobody I can think of

    ReplyDelete
  96. I'd say Scott Steiner. Does some amazing stuff and never raises a fuss or anything. Pops the crowd and goes home.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I'm thinking they couldn't because of some convoluted rules they have for this stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Kevin Nash is jamarcus russell. Talent to be "the guy" but just wants to get paid amd do as little as what's required as possible

    ReplyDelete
  99. East coast bias. I bet the network thinks gmen/skins would draw equal ratings

    ReplyDelete
  100. This loss to the Vikings is killing me.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Hopefully that doesn't mean Calvin ends up terrible by the end of his career

    ReplyDelete
  102. I am pulling for Hoyer because he went to my high school but I want them to take a QB.

    ReplyDelete
  103. You sir, are a damned genius.

    ReplyDelete
  104. The problem is they're so bad and it's so early in the season. If I'm the coach and it's Week 5 and my QB is fucking awful, I'd pull him in hope to maybe salvage the season.

    ReplyDelete
  105. What have you got for Barry Sanders? Jeff Hardy?

    ReplyDelete
  106. You've covered the Stampede to WWF move, but what about his time in WCW?

    ReplyDelete
  107. Not nearly as meta as this:

    http://xkcd.com/904/

    ReplyDelete
  108. 07 Derek Anderson ftw

    ReplyDelete
  109. davidbonzaisaldanamontgomeryDecember 1, 2013 at 7:13 PM

CBS/FOX can select certain games to be protected from flex scheduling.

    ReplyDelete
  110. davidbonzaisaldanamontgomeryDecember 1, 2013 at 7:17 PM

If he's not throwing to Jordan Cameron, he's worthless to me. Why did Brian Hoyer have to be so cursed (other than the fact he plays for Cleveland)?

    ReplyDelete
  111. davidbonzaisaldanamontgomeryDecember 1, 2013 at 7:18 PM

Pretty much, although IIRC it was a pretty weak class to being with. But yeah, I don't see how drafting a late-20s QB out of college with your first pick is going to be a good choice.
