A+ Match of the Day

As C.M. Punk is surely enjoying his first bath in healing salts and hoping to find that cattle prod before Lita stops by, the rest of us are still distraught over his departure and must look at old matches to get our fix.

Today we'll go back a few years and go to Summerslam 2009 where CM Punk was wearing the awesome taped fist shirt (one of which I am a proud owner of) and trying to regain the World Heavyweight Championship from Jeff Hardy in a TLC Match. Oh my.

Comments

  1. Always felt WWE botched the aftermath here with Punk and could have made Punk into a made guy 2 years before the whole pipebomb angle.

  2. The stuff he was cutting on Jeff Hardy was great. Sadly it was a little too true but it was some top notch stuff back when Smackdown was the much better show on TV.

  3. Love this feud, love this match, and it closed the #2 show of the year. So so so great

  4. It's a shame Jeff Hardy left WWE to go to TNA and become just another guy, when on Smackdown he was beating Cena in merchandise sales.

  5. It was a little too true, and it always made me wonder if there was ever any heat there during the feud. Sometimes when you're using the truth, it can go a little too far and people start to get pissed. I think Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels are a great example there.

Punk's feud with Hardy was one of my favorites of the last 10 years. It showed me Punk was capable of big things.

Looking at the vid cap, it appears that Punk went corporate and got a SummerSlam AND a 7-Eleven tattoo at that point.

  7. I think there's a youtube video where the Hardys bash Punk and Jeff says that Punk wouldn't have been a star without him.

  8. I think TNA's biggest boneheaded move was signing Hardy when he was fresh off a main event run and have him debut in some midcard heatless X-Division angle. It felt like a WCW move where they refused to see a guy as a main eventer because they had been a tag wrestler or something for most of their career.

  9. The drugs, don't forget hardy did massive amounts of drugs

    ReplyDelete
  10. As an added bonus, one of the more clever Undertaker returns of all time.

  11. I agree. Hardy was the most popular babyface in the company by a mile. Plus he was having great match after great match.

  12. kickass match with a kickass surprise by Taker. A shame their fued sucked and we had to endure a boring 9 minute cell match under the no-violence PG rules.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Wasn't even an angle, was Homicide feuding with anyone? Hardy just turned up at the end of a match that had nothinh to do with him.

  14. While they were both stoned as I recall.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Right. If he pulled that shit he did at Victory Road against Sting he'd have been fired and banned from life by the company. Just goes to show the difference in the 2 companies. No way in hell would he have even made it past the Gorilla position in that state

  16. Too bad Punk wore jeans to the airport or whatever, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yupm Jeffs at like a waffle house or something drugged out of his mind running his mouth while Matt is at the table eating a stack of pancakes

    ReplyDelete
  18. the whoe "new Smackdown Six" were amazing, producing several **** matches within very few months.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yeah, I forget the exact details, all that I remember was that the whole thing came off as an afterthought and TNA missed out on producing a great debut. Same with RVD too.

  20. Then Matt chimes in with some stupid shit about when Lita needs her computer fixed, she calls Matt instead of Punk.

Good one Matt, I'm sure he was thinking about computers when he was plowing your ex.

  21. The Hardy Boyz, staying classy as always.

Imagine the Punk meltdown if the WWE brought Jeff back and rocketed him to a title match at WrestleMania...

  22. Just curious, but what's the deal with the Lita+ cattle prod reference? Totally lost on that one.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'd assume princess is a bit behind on the "Diva that Punk's dating" scorecard? and is arguing he's into some kinky shit.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Just reading it, it came across almost like she was insinuating that Lita was a fat cow or something catty like that. Really weird. Thanks for the info, though.

  25. Punk was such a fucking douche with this SES shit, maybe that's part of what made him a great heal. Either way I wanted to punch him during this time

oh yeah, this was around the time when he bitched about cena not having to wears suits, wasnt it?

  27. Wait. Wait. WAIT.

"...hoping to find that cattle prod before Lita stops by..."

PRINCESS!! Whatever happened to "try to keep it clean"?

    ;-)

  28. Hm. I had a thought.

If a 1.0 Muta is the measurement of a blade job, would a 1.0 Keith Richards be the measurement of the amount of drugs ingested?

If so, where would Hardy have fallen on the Keith Richards scale during this time?

  29. It's actually an joke some of the older BoD'ers might catch stemming from a Trish vs. Lita conversation I had with my husband. He suggested that while Trish is more attractive, Lita appeared to be one of those chicks that would be down for anything sexually. His quote was "she was probably say something like 'wow I haven't fucked using a cattle prod since I was a teenager'!". It led to an extended discussion.

And I think she does, or did, have a great body even before the breast job.

    That reference is here: http://www.rspwfaq.net/2013/05/as-promised-some-good-ole-fashioned-man.html

  30. I tried...I failed :). I blame the fact that I ate meat tonight for the first time in four months. Husband's grilled chicken looked too good and my risotto didn't turn out right.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hm. If I've learned anything from Hell's Kitchen, it's that the fucking risotto NEVER turns out right. And apparently, scallops are hard to prepare properly.

    ReplyDelete
  32. well he would have gone into company rehab if he chose to. Or ignore it and go to TNA like he did anyway.

  33. Who is doing the bad color commentary on this match? Matt Striker?
