So I live in the DC Area where it's been rainy and windy all day. It's currently 10 or so degrees outside. I bring this up because at 5:30 PM or so, the power to my apartment went out. It came on 10 minutes ago.
So all that angst over whether or not to see Raw? The decision was made for me. Let me check WWE dot com and see if I missed much.
*goes*
...Not really. Night MVP is Roman Reigns, and it looks like the Bryan depush has stuck so far. These are the dead times between TLC and the Rumble because, with the entire roster (most of it) in the 30-man, no feuds really need to be set up to be finished on a major show.
Anyway, sorry y'all. Let's put some PostGame in here. See you next week.

What Bryan depush?
ReplyDeleteAnd you missed an amazing ending.
MVP was clearly Jake the Snake. Come on now.
ReplyDeleteReigns looked good and the crowd was definitely behind him to an extent. There was a good amount of boos when Punk kicked out of the superman punch and even somewhat of a pop when he got the win.
ReplyDeleteThe depush where he wrestled as a non factor in a complete throwaway six man tag in the second segment of the show. And next week his big follow up is a tag match against the Usos.
ReplyDeleteWwe dot com
ReplyDeleteLets be honest, after a few more weeks of this Wyatt storyline, referring to Daniel Bryan as a B+ player will seem rather generous.
ReplyDeleteYou should tell that to Gideon Stargrave. I tried and he insulted me
ReplyDeleteYeah this is awful. Like that showed zero follow up. They are going nowhere with this and its actually going to damage Bryan. This is hitting 1999 wcw politics level
ReplyDeleteI didn't see the segment in question (actually wasn't feeling well and slept and missed most of the first half of the show), but didn't later in the show Cole say that the Wyatts lost because of "miscommunication" between their new member and Rowan and Harper"? But not completely hating this storyline makes me a heel on here sometimes I guess.
ReplyDeleteThe best worker and most over guy (and those are both fairly factual statements) in the wwe is wearing a janitor outfit and begging two guys whose names no one knows to help them in a tag match. Also this was the least amount of TV time Bryan got in 18 months
ReplyDeleteYeah my thought that he was gonna at least be a main event heel and do some jobs to Batista were way generous. The plan here seems to be midcard all the way.
ReplyDeleteThis is only a hypothetical question and I would bet money this will never ever happen at any time but would punk and Bryan jumping to to an RoH that somehow got TNA's TV deal move the needle at all?
ReplyDeleteI was going to just say jump to TNA but I couldn't even type that so I just made an alternative universe where roh is on spike every week
ReplyDeletePunk's look and character are so stale as a babyface right now
ReplyDeleteIt's all something that would never happen obviously because even being pushed as Wyatts they'd make more money in WWE than they could anywhere else, but yeah I'd bet that Bryan and more so Punk could move the needle on a nationally televised "other" promotion. Punk especially has a massive fan base, one way more devoted to him than say someone like Angle had when he jumped. If Punk went somewhere else and the show was built in his image-- something cooler and fresher than WWE, yeah I bet that could draw more than anything TNA has ever done.
ReplyDeleteOh and I want to make a prediction that in about 3 years we are going to have this exact same discussion about el generico.
ReplyDeleteHhh will stick his nose in some angle he's working and suck that guys fucking heat that he will have gotten organically when becomes a super over face. And there will people that say "oh c'mon on hhh will so put him over at the big ppv. Let this play out."
That pre hitc verbal burial was 3 months ago. Hhh hasn't once lost any kind of face for that. Why not? Oh because he's not a heel who has to lose, he's just a character, like a Tony soprano or Walter white... Ugh
Yeah they did, but that's besides the point. In one week Bryan went from their most over baby face to getting zero reaction in a throwaway 6 man against the Usos while wearing a garbage man's outfit. They're not even a main event heel stable, they're bumbling midcarders. The angle is already kind of funny more than anything.
ReplyDeleteThis was just not a good look for Bryan. It seriously felt like I was watching a mid 00s smack down midcard crusier weight teams with the bashams angle. That is not a good thing. This is the worst he's been booked since he came to the wwe. Honestly the nxt underdog who lost every match was better than what I just saw on raw
ReplyDeleteBut see that's my point, just their very mention of miscommunication already shows that this heel turn to me isn't on the up and up, so something's gonna happen (at least to me that's what it seems like).
ReplyDeleteWould I have turned him? Nope I really enjoyed his face act, but they decided they wanted to do something else, and it seems pretty interesting, so hopefully he can make it work. At least to me, getting hot and bothered over them not making him the top face is just a waste of time.
The HHH non-heel heel has been such a bizarre thing to watch. His heel turn honestly should have been massive, as he'd been a face for 7 years... And instead he never committed to it. Honestly, I don't see HHH putting over anyone at Mania. If anything I could see a face HHH going over Orton after Orton loses the title to Cena.
ReplyDeleteAnd we're definitely getting Raw closing on a Yes chant soon...led by HHH after he pedigrees that no good heel Daniel Wyatt.
It sure as hell wasnt the crowd...
ReplyDeleteYou know what it comes down to? He looks and acts like a fucking loser now. There's a part of me that thinks he should just get booed for even going along with something this dumb. At least someone like Punk has the balls to tell management to fuck off once in awhile.
ReplyDeleteHe needs a cool garbage man outfit.
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty much like Jesse Ventura being disrespected by Barry O....
ReplyDeleteWhen the hell did Mark Henry shave his head!?
ReplyDeleteMontell Vontaveous Porter and Jake looking nothing alike so this isn't possible.
ReplyDeleteA straight edge garbage man?! Not sure if that really exists...
ReplyDeleteA few months back, he doesnt look like the predator anymore and he sure doesnt fight like him anymore either....
ReplyDeleteI think that's more disappointing to me than even Daniel Bryan, is to see Mark Henry continuously getting owned by Brock Lesnar, and then the Big Show coming in to be the guy that faces him down. Maybe MH is too injured to be in a real program or something right now, but I think Lesnar/Henry could be a really good feud/match.
ReplyDeleteIts scripted entertainment, why in the world would Bryan do a dumb thing like complain and put himself in the dog house?
ReplyDeleteIt looks bad right now but he is still being used, bitching will turn him into Ziggler or even worse Ryder....
I'd prefer Hall of Pain Mark Henry vs Lesnar than Big Show any day of the week. Big Show seems like a nice guy but he is as stale as it gets,,,
ReplyDeleteHe's lost at least 30% of his intimidation factor.
ReplyDeleteId say more than that, he is back to Sexual Chocolate Jobber Henry....
ReplyDeletestraight-edge Bee Keeper would be good. You can sell the masks on WWE.com for a cool profit too
ReplyDeleteThat would be interesting, I wish that gimmick was around tonight and they couldve released some BEE's into that dead ass crowd...
ReplyDeletePlus he's cried on TV more times than Claire Danes.
ReplyDeleteVictor Rivera back then would be like Scott Casey walking out Tonight
ReplyDeleteFunny thing is, the nice clubs I've been to don't give a crap about your phone. But I went to some scary ass strip club out by Morongo casino in the middle of the desert with chicks with burn scars and C-section scars...and they took my phone. Didn't want me taking pictures.
ReplyDeleteSo I guess YMMV
They know the Rumble is in a couple of weeks, right? Got through it in 35-40 minutes again. The DB angle is a stupid idea, but it's progressing, and at least he's buying into it although it makes no damn sense. But yeah, segment 2... lol.
ReplyDeleteI guess they realized Brock need a reboot and they're doing it right this time. But hopefully they blow off him and Show during the Rumble match and don't do an actua match.
CM Punk, the New Age Outlaws and Jake Roberts might be the oddest group in wresting history. The match is okay. I know I've said this 20 times already, but Reigns has "it", I mean if you called up central casting and said "I NEED A WRESTLER!", he's the guy they'd send.
Other than that, there wasn't really much in this and I think the only time the Rumble was even brought up was when ADR cut a promo to bore everyone. But then again, I had my finger on the FF button most of the time.
No, the audience isn't there. It'd just be TNA 2, not that there's anything wrong with that. The core philosophy of RoH would make it a disaster anyway. Look at how Raw is viewed and apply that to a show that has say, 1M viewers during their peak segment, when the lulls are "indy no-sell guy 2 vs. anorexic spot monkey 3" as opposed to people the audience are at least familiar with (even if they don't want to watch them.)
ReplyDeleteNot sure I would want any pictures of that shit...
ReplyDeleteThe time he pretended he was going to retire was some of the best acting Ive ever seen by a wrestler.....
ReplyDeleteThat's a crappy ending but that's real life, not some stupid Hollywood ending..
ReplyDeleteThe only thing that could bring competition to WWE is if some billionaire went out and started a company with Stone Cold, The Rock, Goldberg and every other former star not signed to a WWE deal. And even then I cant see it really taking off....
ReplyDeleteThreadjack: The Cavs made a stupid trade for player that's gonna bounce in months time.
ReplyDeleteDeng for Bynum a 1st and two 2nd rd picks. Blah
ReplyDelete4.5 is generous to us(Kings), I must say.
ReplyDeleteNext Old School RAW, he can turn on the Killer Bees.
ReplyDeleteor Jameis is just that well articulated of a guy and the school had nothing to do with it.
ReplyDeleteUnless Gilbert is desperate to make the playoffs this year, which I assume he is, I would never do this deal unless I knew we had a chance he's resigning.
ReplyDeleteHell, I figured Deng would resign with Chicago on the cheap.
The booking meetings would be interesting, at least. Building a wrestling company is a pain. The only way you could go is with an hour show, and even if you have a couple of marketable stars, where's the rest of your company. A small show doesn't let you build anyone up... and those guys still need opponents. Are DB and Punk gonna feud for a year?
ReplyDeleteIt's just tough to do.
I started watching WCW when I was in 4th or 5th grade because I saw on an issue of PWI that Ricky Steamboat was their champion. My thinking was, I liked that guy, WWF stopped using him, and he gets to be a champion in this other company--I think I'm going to give them a chance. Than I quickly latched on to Sting, Ric Flair, the Steiners, etc..., even after Steamboat moved on. That was also 1989 WCW which was one of the most air tight booking periods ever. I feel like always has to be some way another company could build a fan base by providing a quality product and giving the fans the stars they want to see. TNA has had a few chances to do this, but they can't stop making WCW 2000 level booking decisions. I think ROH could do some awesome stuff if TNA falls and they pick up some of their roster. ROH is in a great spot right now. IF they just concentrate on growing at a steady level, they might one day be the company that could draw a frustrated mainstream star and give wrestling fans a genuine alternative to the WWE's "Best for Business" approach.
ReplyDeleteDude, Victor Rivera teamed with Bruno! He had to be over! (honestly, have no idea).
ReplyDeleteYup but it ca be done with the right hook...
ReplyDeleteI think she wants the D.
ReplyDeleteor your cash.
Well played.....
ReplyDeleteA guy like Dolph Ziggler would be a prime candidate for such a jump, but the pay difference would probably be to great. Give ROH 4-5 more years of TV and smart business decisions, maybe they could be a bit more competitive.
ReplyDeletejbl has really regressed as an announcer. he actually got better for a while there, but tonight he really drove home how bad he is with his completely pointless rant about the mars rover that carried on so long that cole actually had to cut him off. and then he was so busy trying to get over on cole by bitching about how cole makes up stuff that he nearly missed scotty doing the worm, (a moment obviously meant to be noticed)
ReplyDeletehe thinks being angry, contrarian, demeaning, and yelling makes him an effective heel announcer, but all it does is make me want to mute the tv. simply fucking dreadful
It was pretty cold here too. 60 degrees.
ReplyDelete#CaliforniaProblems
Sorry, I meant Big Show. He's cried more than Claire Danes.
ReplyDeletethe last 5 minutes of the bcs championship game were awesome
ReplyDeleteHe is quite bad, they really need him to go off and climb a mountain....
ReplyDeleteWhole game was awesome*
ReplyDeleteBoth have cried more than any wrestlers I can recall.....
ReplyDeletetoo bad the segment really didnt call for it. nothing so extremely awkward as to warrant a DAMN, more like a "Um, OK"
ReplyDeletewoody finally got him
ReplyDelete'Well, I was dead serious about going to itchy and scratchy land'
ReplyDeleteftfy
haters, hatin', and so on and so forth
ReplyDeleteDespite the inflated sense of importance we project ourselves as having, Daniel Bryan's job is to entertain Vince McMahon.
ReplyDeletethe nerdy glasses guy, the chubby dude with the funky haircut, or the other guy who i cant think of right now?
ReplyDeletetrue, but the last 5 minutes definitely had edge of seat overtones. being a birmingham, al native, i was rooting for auburn, but given that i have family who are fsu alums couple with how back and forth the game was, i found myself loving the game itself, and not necessarily who won
ReplyDeleteI feel like we're being worked. The only logical payoff here is making us let go of our hopes for D-Bry only to see those hopes spontaneously re-ignited at full-force at the moment we least expect ... or, more likely, the moment that a swerve is completely obvious. Either way, if that's the ride ... sign me up!
ReplyDeleteDeng was never coming back due to how bad Bulls team doctors fucked up his spinal tap aftercare.
ReplyDeleteHuh? Never heard about that.
ReplyDeleteDidn't watch RAW, but saw the video of Jake, and that's the first thought I had. The wrestling world owes DDP a HUGE debt of gratitude if Scott Hall is even half as good looking as Jake is.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't heard that either, but it's not a very far leap at all.
ReplyDeleteAs a Bulls fan, I think that it's a good trade from the point of view of asset building. The 1st round picks should become unprotected in 2016, along with a pick from the Bobcats. They save a lot of money during a lost season and cash out on Deng, who I will miss. And they have flexibility heading into the deadline and in the off-season, where they still have their amnesty to use on Boozer if they are serious about bringing Mirotic over from Spain. Or, Boozer is a big, expiring contract that they could use in a mega-deal.
If the Cavs use Deng's Bird Rights (which should still be intact) they can bring him back and add another piece. Varejao-Thompson-Deng-Waiters-Irving is a starting five that, with time, could make some noise, especially in the Eastern Conference.
To be fair, I would mark right the fuck out if some Old School Jobbers came out for the save. Especially if they were saving another Jobber.
ReplyDeleteI say this with all due respect: go fuck yourself.
ReplyDeleteHa.
ReplyDeleteBryan is definitely better off in the WWE anyway. He'll get pushed again. He hasn't been jobbed out yet either.
Punk will probably retire before moving company. He's a ready made legend!
According to his Twitter account, it does have a slightly happier ending:
ReplyDeleteOne last thing - I caught FSU at Even money early in the game for $2K. So that should make some of you feel better 😉— Mark Skiba (@markjskiba) January 7, 2014
"One last thing - I caught FSU at Even money early in the game for $2K. So that should make some of you feel better/"
If you wanna believe badly enough that someone is being depushed, I guess you're gonna see what you wanna see. It amazes me too.
ReplyDeleteThen he'd better get some dark body paint and learn some dance moves. Or invest in a whole lot of whoopie cushions.
ReplyDeletePreferable a steep and treacherous one...
ReplyDeleteI kid. But man, whenever I dare check out Raw these days, he is insufferable. He's either yelling or trotting out WE catch phrases ad nauseum. I turned off a Raw and didn't watch for months after he interrupted the Wyatt's entrance (when it was still interesting) just to say "Best for Business" completely without context. It was absurdly irritating, coming after him saying the same words about 40 other times earlier in the episode.
I went to bed early last night (had to get up early this morning, anyway) AND I MISSED JAKE THE SNAKE RETURNING? Dammit!
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I'm mad at myself because I've been following his progress over the last year to clean himself up and get healthy. He's been doing some amazing work and that should be rewarded. I just watched the clip on YouTube and he looks like a million bucks. So happy to see him finally get to return. Now, let's hope for at least a brief appearance in the Rumble itself and then on to the Hall of Fame!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbszVMpAh94
Also, I loved that Dean Ambrose was grinning while the snake was put on him. Anyone who grew up on wrestling like I did (and he likely did) can't deny that it'd be near impossible NOT to smile.
I must have been hallucinating all of those "NO" chants and such.
ReplyDeleteI'll give them this: At least they look like they have some sort of actual angle going with the Bryan/Wyatts thing. From Mysterio and the Usos trying to reason with him to COle and JBL putting over his "snapping" at all of the abuse and the fans still supporting him anyway, it at least seems like there's some payoff coming to it (hahahaha) and it's not just "well he has a beard so fuck it he's a Wyatt now."
ReplyDeleteHoly God, I was thinking the exact same thing at the exact same time. He's so obsessed with making himself seem witty and get shots in at Cole that he just talks all over everything that's going on. You could actually hear Cole getting annoyed as all hell about it when he stepped all over the setup for The Worm.
ReplyDeleteHow was there zero follow up? Just one week in, and it's already clear that they won't be able to get along, and Daniel will break up from them very soon. That's not enough?
ReplyDeleteHe probably didn't hear them as his screams of "THE SKY IS FALLING" drowned out all the chants.
ReplyDeleteTo a slight extent, didn't you just describe TNA and the Carters?
ReplyDeleteDidn't he get knocked out by Daniel Bryan, only for his buddy HBK to save him? Then didn't he get punched out by CM Punk, only to have his buddy HBK save his honor again? I'd say those 2 things made him look pretty weak. Like he can't fight his own battles.
ReplyDeleteDude, I get not liking the angle, but to say he was a non-factor and that that was a throwaway match is objectively wrong.
ReplyDeleteIf by "Smile" you mean "Try not to hyperventilate or die of a heart attack", then yes.
ReplyDeleteI'm struggling with life right now. Don't see a recap up. Someone please gimme a quick synopsis of what happened with Bryan last night.
ReplyDelete-Looked like a janitor.
ReplyDelete-Crowd went into big "NO" chants before the match
-Rey/Usos stalled by trying to reason with him when he came in.
-Blind tagged in off of Rowan, was immediately blind tagged out by Harper, who didn't seem to like Bryan very much, that wound up getting them beat with a rollup.
-Later bit backstage Bryan is telling Harper and Rowan that he's a former tag team champion who wrestled with a big man partner and wants to teach them, asks one of them to tag with him next week, Bray comes in and says that Bryan will be teaming with Bray instead.
What actually happened: It was the clear start of a slow burn angle where they're never gonna be on the same page, and will break up very soon.
ReplyDeleteThe sypnosis on here: "OMG BURRIEEDDD!!! "
And the undertones are that there's going to be a rift between Harper/Rowan and Bray, perhaps, or that the big guys don't fully understand Bray's plans for Bryan.
ReplyDeleteI prefer your recap to mine. Well done sir!
ReplyDeleteThanks. So no promo by Bryan? I was really interested on of he'd heel it up on the fans or not. From your description it seems kinda boring
ReplyDeleteThe entrance was awesome. Same routine as usual, then Bray stops with the lantern... And we slowly see Daniel's silhouette from the side. He didn't say one bad thing towards the fans, which was very important in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteThe Wyatts as a whole didn't really do anything especially heelish. Bryan jumped Mysterio from behind right after the loss and shoved him out of the ring, but that was about it.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. My assumption was he would cut a sympathetic "I couldn't beat the machine so I needed some help" promo, essentially keeping him as a face
ReplyDelete-40 with the wind chill here in T.O. and my walk to the bus stop is going to be on solid ice.
ReplyDeleteIt would be impossible for that interview, because he can't be a face while in the Wyatts.Would be too confusing!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, the match itself was ok, but i think(hope) they have some sort of endgame for it,
That's what I'm saying. He comes across as a conflicted face with that promo instead of a heel
ReplyDeletehe's gotten a lot better.
ReplyDeleteit looks like the Bryan depush has stuck so far.
ReplyDeleteUh, what? Because he's coveralls? It's not like he just joined and became a personality-less nameless member. It's an intricate angle that's actually going somewhere.
His overall body language did make him look like a conflicted face in my opinion. Sort of like 'I don't wanna be with these guys, but I'm desperate, so I'll give it a try'. For chapter 1, it was pretty good.
ReplyDeleteSadly the people who keep clamoring for long term storylines simply cannot handle long term storylines.
ReplyDeletePlus they made it obvious that Harper/Rowan don't really like him, and you don't really know what the hell Bray is up to. There's still a lot of directions for this to go.
ReplyDelete"Because he's coveralls?"
ReplyDeleteI didn't know people could be pieces of clothing.
#Pulling A Dougie on Dougie
Many of us here are pointing out some very obvious facts about Daniel Bryan.
ReplyDelete- He is buried in a midcard angle.
- He is dressed like a member of Slipknot / A high school janitor.
- "backstage rumors" have this as all Vince's doing with no endgame in sight.
- He clearly is not winning the Royal Rumble or getting a marque match at Wrestlemania.
These are facts. The D Bry downvote crew needs to wake up.
I disagree Douglas.
ReplyDeleteA long term storyline would be a heel winning the IC title, defending it regularly, and breaking Honky Tonk Man's record. Not Daniel the Hillbilly Janitor.
ReplyDeleteIs this like when Curtis Axel interfered and cost Bryan the MITB briefcase, and everyone came to the "conclusion" that Daniel would be buried into a mid-card IC title match at Summerslam? I... I give up. You guys can think what you wanna think. Anything other than "Getting pushed like John Cena" is just not good enough for you guys.
ReplyDeleteTo your 3rd point...how is this different then most angles? Is everyone that's involved in a long angle with no planned endgame on Vinces shit list? That would be quite the list.
ReplyDeleteto your 4th point...we don't know he's not winning the rumble. Eve. If he doesn't, 29 guys don't win the Rumble every year. The offered HBK alot of money to work a mat h with Bryan. Thinking they do t want him in a marquee match at WM just doesn't hold water.
I remember when john cena was getting buried by joining the nexus.
ReplyDeleteYou clearly don't know how things work here. Complain first, ask questions later!
ReplyDeletefact [fakt]
ReplyDeletenoun
1. something that actually exists; reality; truth: Your fears have no basis in fact.
2. something known to exist or to have happened: Space travel is now a fact.
Very little of the content in your comment qualifies as a "fact".
PS - I don't like the angle and believe that it is a total mis-use of the hottest performer in the company. I just hate it when people confuse opinion and speculation with facts.
ReplyDeleteHere are some facts:
ReplyDelete-he main evented the 2nd biggest show of the year while going over the face of the company
- he subsequently headlined 3 ppvs while being extremely well protected booking wisw
- he still is in closing segments of Raw
But one week where he's not in the main event clearly cancels all of that out, and the storyline ends RIGHT NOW. Anything that happens next week or next month does not count, ANGLE FAILED!!
ReplyDeletelooks like brock v show at rumble ... sadly
ReplyDeleteThat first is top ten protected this year, top 12 protected next year, and becomes a 2nd rounder after that. Since the pick belongs to the Kings, the Cavs nor the Bulls were going to see a first round pick out of it. It's essentially 3 seconds and Bynum for Deng.
ReplyDeleteThat's the thing that gets me. I'm a big Bryan fan but the perceived slights are so ludicrous. Every good thing wwe has done with him gets overlooked and the perceived slights are the only things talked about. Was Austin being buried when he got fired or when they tied his hand behind his back amd Foley beat the shit outta him?
ReplyDeleteAnd my favorite part is the extreme backlash if we even DARE to imply that they might be wrong. Anyone who disagrees with them *MUST* be a troll... It's the only explanation!!! Sometimes I don't know why I bother.
ReplyDeleteI'm not even a huge D Bry fan, I like him but I'm no where near as big of a fan as others here. Based on Vince's patterns over the last 25+ years of watching his product plus the backstage reports, I don't think things look good. Vince being about the Seattle Raw is a huge indicator.
ReplyDeleteOr when Bryan was buried when he was working comedy skits with kane and was in a pointless midcard match with him at SUmmerslam in 2012?
ReplyDeleteHis first 3 points are facts. His last two are logical conclusions.
ReplyDeleteCena was already established before the Nexus angle. Hard to bury someone wonce they are made. DWy is not "made" yet. he would have been had they followed of the Cena win properly.
ReplyDelete*waves "Sarcasm" sign*
ReplyDeleteYea. I'm on the other side of the fence of you on the Bryan thing but the Cena/Medusa comparisons people have used are way off base.
ReplyDeleteIt can be done...provided that the long-term storyline progresses in a way that the fans can understand and appreciate.
ReplyDeleteAs much as the Aces and Eights angle was 12 levels of retarded TNA still tried to explain it and tie it all together.
*top 5 handshake*
ReplyDeleteDefinite sarcasm on my part
ReplyDeleteI think that was his point. It's a ridiculous double standard.
ReplyDeleteIf Cena WAS buried would anyone care?
ReplyDeleteThat is nonsense. Vince is doing everything in his power to destroy Daniel Bryan (while never EVER making him lose cleanly, not even to the face of the company, or the undisputed world champ.)
ReplyDeleteWell, there's two real problems:
ReplyDelete1. They had Bryan primed to be a huge babyface star and didn't pull the trigger. That's pretty annoying for people who really like the guy, and I still don't get why they didn't go with that, other than OMGZ CENA AND ORTON!!!!!!
2. He was feuding with Triple H, there was no real resolution to that, and now he's out of that picture and absolutely no one thinks he's going to get a proper blowoff to that. And it's Triple H.
Genetics shaved most of it. He just got rid of the rest.
ReplyDeleteTrue. He never laid a finger. Just a knee to his head during the HITC match.
ReplyDeleteNope. they would just say "it doesn't matter because within 18 months, he'll probably win the world title again."
ReplyDelete...and what did he get for it from an angle perspective?
ReplyDeleteI think what bothers people the most is that when someone chastises the underdog, we want the underdog to prove him wrong. From a storyline perspective that wasn't accomplished. All HHH would have had to say is, "I was wrong about you" and it would have helped.
They did 2 very good and logical long term stories to set up WM 29. People were just too busy complaining that it's not what they wanted.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why Jake Roberts has to save Punk & the Outlaws. How is this going to progress any storyline?
ReplyDeleteDougie had no point. It's part of his charm.
ReplyDeleteI don't disagree with any of that. My perspective is only that it was pretty clear from the get go the only intention for the authority stuff was for the authority to go over. The end game from day one of that angle was to establish that act as a top heel group, regardless of how hot Bryan was. I don't think it was the smartest move but I resigned myself to it and was just happy they protected him to a pount with the ppv finishes.
ReplyDeleteThe Bully Ray videos when he joined were masterpieces. THAT is how you book long-term... even if in hindsight it's probably 50/50 they backed into it accidentally.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes for her, I imagine a fractured tibia is not fun at all.
ReplyDeleteThe Raw thread was a lively one last night.
They really should put him in and surprise him with some sort of award. Get DDP & Kim there for a HoF induction, then blindside him with Jake, Scott, etc giving him some sort of humanitarian award on behalf of This Business.
ReplyDelete#3 is based off of 'backstage rumors' and therefore can't be categorized as a fact (unless you're just saying the rumors exist). But rumors exist that 9/11 was faked and that Chris Benoit really didn't do it. Rumors <> fact.
ReplyDeleteUnless he sat down with Vince over coffee he really doesn't know if those rumors are true or not.
Just saying he was factually wrong about his statement.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's my mom.
ReplyDeleteif Bryan had joined the Wyatts how Cena did, I'd be completely fine. Cena was adhering to a stipulation, Bryan's being subservient to a mid card act. kinda different.
ReplyDeleteAre you an angry writer posting from Titan Towers? Go fetch Paul his protein shake.
ReplyDeleteWhy are you so angry?
ReplyDeleteMe too. Espcaecially since it was in Seattle. If Cena improvised mentioning Bryan to get a reaction, followed by HHH, Michaels, Cena, Steph, Punk, Orton, and Bryan improvising the subsequent brawl, then they all deserve awards. Given how tightly scripted every little aspect of RAW is nowadays, there's no way in hell that whole tihing was thought up on the fly.
ReplyDeleteIs this his fifth?
ReplyDeleteCena has the ability to lose and put himself over in the process. He truly is SuperCena. They also job Cena once in a while so he can maintain "underdog" status.
ReplyDeleteDo they change his name to Dirk Nowinski and give him a brain damage gimmick?
ReplyDeleteBecause I dared to disagree with the overall opinion. I paid for WM at the theatre, and I felt like I got my money's worth. Therefore, I am evil.
ReplyDeleteSeeing Jake The Snake was cool, though I wish they would have saved him for a surprise entrant in the Royal Rumble.
ReplyDeleteThe moment was ruined, however, by Ambrose unable to keep from smiling while the snake was on top of him.
I noticed that too. Maybe he's just so cool that he smirks even when out cold.
ReplyDeleteMy prediction is that this all leads to DB/Wyatt at wrestlemania. Is it a main event? No. But this wasn't going to be DB's year to main event anyway. He's behind Taker, Lesnar, Cena, Punk, Orton, Batista. He's just not breaking through that no matter how over he is right now. There are worse things than being in a heavily featured storyline leading up to wrestlemania. I could be wrong and they could hotshot the angle and have him in another match by then, but that's where I think it's going. And that is not a burial.
ReplyDeleteDoes the Rumble match occupy a certain spot on the card now? Do the kick off the show with it? I assume the title match finishes the show.
ReplyDeleteHeath Ledger's Joker laughed hysterically when he thought he was plunging to his death. Some people are just awesome like that.
ReplyDeleteMother fucking Dougie giving us some actual insights to his views amd not just being contrarian. Good job Douglas.
ReplyDeleteYou know what is funny? He really was a mid card dude that didn't go over in a major angle BEFORE Steph made the B+ comments. If you think about it, was he fucked over worse by Sheamus, AJ Lee and stuck in a goofy angle with Kane?
ReplyDeleteI'm fine with it either way. Sometimes when the title match goes first, it sort of gives away the Rumble winner. So I'm fine with the title match going last.
ReplyDeleteIf Shawn said no to wrestling him, Lesnar is with Taker, and HHH is with Punk, i guess this is it! Orton and Bryan would be a great match, but is too overexposed for Wrestlemania.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the title match should probably finish up the show. My kid, who is 7, is getting into wrestling by watching the youtubes (as evidenced that his favorite wrestlers are Rey and Edge) and I was thinking of getting the Rumble. I figured it would be a fun thing for him to watch and a good into PPV for him to see. The issue is it's a school night and I live on the east coast, so the show goes off at 10:45 when he is usually in bed by 8:30.
ReplyDeleteUnderstood.
ReplyDeleteYeah. That is usually the start of the "Point/look to the WrestleMania sign" thing.
ReplyDeleteYou don't know what the word fact means
ReplyDeleteI'm flabbergasted that so many people think this is a good angle. I don't know how. I guess its a comic book thing. Maybe the Wyatt's are like evil comic book characters or something? I probably just don't get it because I don't read Batman. I dunno
ReplyDeleteI hope she gets well soon.
ReplyDeleteI'd honestly rather hear about that strip club that made you give up your cell phone at the door!
ReplyDeleteHe does this sometimes.
ReplyDeleteHey, you're the guy who keeps clamoring for Vince Russo to return. I'd think a confusing storyline with a nonsensical heel turn that doesn't seem to be
ReplyDeletegoing anywhere and winds up hurting the guy it's designed to help would be exactly what you're looking for.
I get the sense that the Old School Raws sort of exist in a vacuum. Jake probably makes another appearance in the Rumble, but I doubt if he's going to have any actual involvement.
ReplyDeleteUnless Jake's appearance was just a one-off, I think there is a great opportunity here for the Shield to get some massive heel heat. Not just with a 3-on-1 beatdown, but have Ambrose cut a promo bringing up all Jake's demons and such. Might make him a breakout star
ReplyDeleteBrock vs. Big Show for a potential build to Undertaker vs. Brock? Instead of "dream matches" they are literally using Brock's appearances to run the matches we have seen the MOST. Brock wasn't around long enough (02-04) for there to be some huge sample size of opponents. The match possibilities with Brock vs. Taker/Show are played.
ReplyDeleteWould've made more sense if the Shield were beating down Jake and Punk made the save.
ReplyDeleteFor sure. I think they just wanted the "surprise" pop for Jake's entrance
