On paper matches sounded great & WCW sure had the right formula with talent. Big names in the main event, work rate or not & a stacked mid card that def could go. Jericho, Raven, Konnan, Chavo & Eddy Guerrero followed by Hall, Nash, Hening, Bret Hart and Luger. Stacked, pumped up fantasy roster and didn't even know about the gold they had with Jericho & Eddy. Too bad. Damn you WCW why did u have to die!!!!!
Loved how WWE's recent MId-South Blu-Ray put great spotlight on how huge a star he was for the territory, heel and face. That angle with him, Flair and Murdoch is still textbook in how to make a mega-star face for the fans that any future booker should study.
This is the third time I've typed this out thanks to the uniqueness of discus Dibiase would have been a great champ in 92. As would Savage again. As would Tito for that matter. There a plenty of better choices than Bret. He just wasn't ready for it yet.
I think they could have built him up for it. Imagine Bret getting the 93 Rumble win by starting at #4 or something, then beating an established DiBiase or Flair or Savage for the belt at WrestleMania IX.
Do they have the Georgia library (like the angle with the Freebirds)? I know that GCW got bought by the WWF, but that doesn't mean a separate deal occurred for the tape library at some point in time.
Bret may not have been ready for it yet, but DiBiase was a heel, andand with the exception of Billy Graham and maybe to some extent Flair, the only heels who were WWF champs had short-lived transitional reigns that were just used to pass the title from one baby-face to another.
I could actually see Ted wearing a turban and acting like a rich oil sheik.. only problem is that ted was never a face in that late 80's run and him turning wouldn't have had as much an impact as the near decade long fan fave Sarge. Slaughter becoming an Iraqi sympathizer right in the middle of a war = balls!!
I'm sorry, but *no one* who was actually watching this stuff in 92 would have said Tito would be a more effective WWE champ than anyone. I watched back then and he was the fricking Matador, jobber to the stars. The only thing he might have been more effective in would be completely killing the company.

ReplyDeleteThis is cool. Interesting piece of trivia: What magazine popularized the 'Q & A' format?
ReplyDeleteI wish the WWF gave him a proper run with the belt.
ReplyDeleteDibiase should have been world champ in 92 instead of Bret
ReplyDeleteDibiase would have been great. Or more Savage. Or even Tito. They were all excellent in the ring and had more charisma than Bret at that stage,
ReplyDeleteThere are many better choices than Hart in 92. He just wasn't ready yet.

Shitty discus

One of the best ever. He'd be a 10x champion if he worked today.
ReplyDeleteHe should have had slaughters spot in 90/91. I think he might have gotten the best hogan mania main event but dibiase really deserved that.
ReplyDeleteClub magazine?
ReplyDeleteI actually remember watching this show live.
ReplyDeleteTed Dibiase - American turncoat
ReplyDeleteI think I agree with this. Bret was excellent in the ring, but he was a black hole of charisma at that stage of his career.
ReplyDeleteI think they could have built him up for it. Imagine Bret getting the 93 Rumble win by starting at #4 or something, then beating an established DiBiase or Flair or Savage for the belt at WrestleMania IX.
ReplyDeleteThat Blu-Ray is awesome.
ReplyDeleteDiBiase should get his own Blu-Ray. Now that they have the Mid-South library, they have his whole career. It would be epic.
ReplyDeleteHe wouldn't have the right look and he'd need to learn how to work WWE style.
ReplyDeleteI thought he was supposed to have one some years ago. Hopefully the holdup was that they were waiting for the Mid-South footage.

ReplyDeleteTito Santana? Um no. Nobody bought Tito Santana as a WWF title contender.
ReplyDeleteHe would have been more effective in 92 than Hart.

ReplyDeletePlayboy?
ReplyDeleteGCW is basically what became became WCW, so I think they have it.
ReplyDeleteYes! That's exactly what I was thinking too.
