The Network Speaks

Well, that’s encouraging.  I’m glad they didn’t PLAN for this much demand or anything…

Comments

  1. They were too busy with holding Daniel Bryan down to worry about some network issues....

    ReplyDelete
  2. This stuff is always going to have a rocky launch, but it seems like things could've been managed better. Like, allowing people to sign up before launch day. I'd like to hear a reason for why that didn't happen.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Knowing WWE, they specifically set it up like this so on Raw tonight they can say "Did You Know...? WWE Network was in such high demand that its servers clashed when it launched!"

    ReplyDelete
  4. It's working for me now.

    ReplyDelete
  5. It was never gonna go smoothly, they keep appointing wrestlers to prominent positions with little experience of administrative procedure.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I'll wait to Cole walks us through it 100 times later

    ReplyDelete
  7. I wonder the same thing. I hope someone asks Vince on the next conference call....

    ReplyDelete
  8. Just the authentication server. The Network is working awesomely

    ReplyDelete
  9. I'm still stuck on the "Enter Your Billing Information" page.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I'm not sure, but I think part of the problem is how they set up the "Billing Info" section.

Instead of a simple form like anything else I've ever encountered, it's a frame on the page, as though I were loading Disqus.

So everyone has to load the page, then the frame in the page.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I was honestly getting pissed thinking it was just a problem with my connection or something. Haha.

    ReplyDelete
  12. That's the page where you enter your billing information.

*Thank you, thank you, I'm here all day, and please tip your waiteress!!*

    ReplyDelete
  13. Finally some love for wrestle war 92 on the list of things to watch on the network. I would recommend that whole early 92 wcw run. Superbrawl 2 - beach blast - wrestle war. Great, long matches and logical story telling finally getting blown off at wrestle war In a brilliant manner.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I am the greatest thing since sliced bread. Wait, I am greater than slice bread.

    ReplyDelete
  15. It'll be an informative RAW tonight!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Bread sliced by a laser?

    ReplyDelete
  17. In marketing terms, you never want to meet all the demand at launch. It sends the signal that you've saturated the early adopter market from the beginning, and that sends the wrong signal to your investors.

Think that sounds silly? Remember when the WiiU launched and you could still buy them? That meant that it was already a failure.

    ReplyDelete
  18. The first hour of the show will be Cole explaining this thing....

    ReplyDelete
  19. Think I have it now finally.

    ReplyDelete
  20. WWE Network is trending on Twitter!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. That's why there's always a line outside of a club.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I love when I'm right....

    ReplyDelete
  23. I could be nuts but earlier only episodes from 2013 till Batista's return were up, now Im starting to see more pop up and before there were no shows in the WWE vault, now I see a few cards from MSG....

    ReplyDelete
  24. You Searched For chris benoit
No results were found for that term. Please try a new search.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'd be more impressed if you just bought the network anyway

    #henpecked

    ReplyDelete
  26. Has anyone successfully signed up in the last 30 minutes or so?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Tonight when Cole says "we're out of time but you can see the completion of Bryan vs Orton on the WWE Network..."

    ReplyDelete
  28. Still its a solid move to wait, I don't see what the rush is. It will be there anytime

    ReplyDelete
  29. I checked out the last WCW PPV, Greed 2001, and was surprised to see that Michael Buffer's ring announcing was not removed as it has been on WWE Home Video and Classics On Demand.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Thinking of Atari with Pacman and E.T. Worst. Marketing. Ever.

    ReplyDelete
  31. yes i have, however some items are missing and it's still lagging

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yeah it doesn't get past the billing page for me either...very exciting stuff though.

    ReplyDelete
  33. As long as you don't get an annoying one right?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Maybe their plan is to do Orton vs Batista at WM, so their servers can handle the low demand.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Is this available on Apple TV?

    ReplyDelete
  36. He has been looking five years younger lately.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Had to create a whole new email address, but it finally worked! What to watch, what to watch?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Whatever is available.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Thanks! Yeah, that era of WCW is unfairly overlooked. There was some bad stuff, but overall it was stronger than WWF before Hogan came in.

    ReplyDelete
  40. WrestleMania I it is!

    ReplyDelete
  41. But we look so much alike... it's like staring in a mirror...

    ReplyDelete
  42. Well, it showed up on my bank statement now. Wish me luck!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Grrr! Music! This is not the instrumental muzac to a 1980s pop hit I remember as a kid!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Wasnt that more the product than the marketing?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Good luck
    :breaks phone:

    ReplyDelete
  46. I think it's time to throw on some Walking Dead while I refresh and refresh and refresh...

    ReplyDelete
  47. Copyright my friend.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Yeah, no kidding. I wasn't expecting it, just kind of hoping. Unfortunately, there was no copyright keeping the WWE from showing Mean Gene singing the National Anthem to kick off the show.

Who thought THAT was a good idea?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Easy Lover has been edited and Eye of the Tiger too...

    ReplyDelete
  50. Actually 99% of the time the pets aren't annoying in the slightest. But every now and then the owners can be annoying. Don't get me wrong, I've met some awesome people. But I've also met people who've made me want to tear my hair out.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Yes, but I believe it has to be the most recent generation.

    ReplyDelete
  52. No, pretty much every major online venture like this with huge demand has problems, if anything it's a good thing.

    ReplyDelete
  53. They used the music from Beverly Hills Cop to end the show, too, didn't they?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Only WWE would crash their own site just for some publicity.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Your_Favourite_LoserFebruary 24, 2014 at 9:33 AM

bayless has 99 problems, but glitches aint' one

    ReplyDelete
  56. They are still on probation with me. If DB is in the main event I will buy the network, if he isn't I won't. If he is, and he loses I won't re-up after 6 months. Capitalism 101... give me what I want I give you what you want.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Originally they did, but Im guessing that was removed too...

    ReplyDelete
  58. Didnt they crash the XFL blimp too...

    ReplyDelete
  59. WWE Network: From the streaming service that brought you MLB.TV, and the sign-up service that brought you Obamacare.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Watching Bully Busick vs Texas Tornado....

    My question is...why?

    ReplyDelete
  61. The intense sense of relief when I see Sami Zayn and Cesaro on my TV...

    ReplyDelete
  62. My biggest problem is that I forgot my WWE.com password, and I can't get it to email me a new one successfully. But I'm not surprised or angry. I'll get on at some point today.

New best customer support idea- Goldust.

    "Hi, customer support?"

    "Ye-ye-ye-YEEYEAH-yes?"

"I'm having trouble with my credit card and the Network."

    "OK."

    "Hello?"

    "Hello?"

    "What are you wearing?"

  63. Your_Favourite_LoserFebruary 24, 2014 at 9:38 AM

what do you expect? you're trying to connect from the alps

    ReplyDelete
  64. I think it can't be 1st generation. My older (2010) Apple TV got the most recent update with the beetles channel and crackle.

    ReplyDelete
  65. He would've already blocked you by the time you asked your second question.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I'm sure if Vince did see the Sixth Sense that was his interpretation of the ending.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Yeah, I loved that era. Tons of young talent and a great mix with the veterans. The end of 92 is a little disappointing. I love the MVC but that should of built to the steiners match and just seemed their domination just over shadowed everything, but they had some great matches so I really shouldn't complain.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Apparently, the Network is jamming up disqus too. It takes forever for the comments to load in this thread.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Kinda interesting, but
    1) The WiiU didn't represent that huge "jump" that other consoles had, so its failure could be attributed to marketing/usefulness and not necessarily demand, and
    2) People are creatures of habit that like things RIGHT NOW. Network issues are never a good selling point.
I think you're looking at it from a "goods vs. service" POV, and I don't think this is the case.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Isnt that Mean Gene's hotline?

    ReplyDelete
  72. Bad publicity is good publicity. " The demand CRASHED OUR SERVERS!!"

    ReplyDelete
  73. My friend has a theory that McMahon keeps all the big muscleheads around so he has spare bodies. One of these days, Orton is gonna disappear and Vince will show up on tv with a shitload of tattoos.

    ReplyDelete
  74. That is right my man

  75. Stranger in the AlpsFebruary 24, 2014 at 9:49 AM

    Don't rain logic upon me!

    ReplyDelete
  76. Boo-Tista was #1 on Twitter at one point last night

    ReplyDelete
  77. Ok, I was able to create an account, then it took me to the Network main page and it gave me Media Error: Video Not Available at the top. No billing information page or anything.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Watching 1982 episode of world class. Don't hate me.

did it have hayes and kevin doing a studio intro?

    ReplyDelete
  81. Isn't it pretty common to have first day issues with this sort of thing? I would have expected some.

    ReplyDelete
  82. You are the equivalent of someone eating a tub of ice cream right at the window of a Curves gym.

    ReplyDelete

anyone know how long they're offering the free trial?

    ReplyDelete
  89. Every time I try it just does the same thing.

    ReplyDelete
  90. On the startup screen all I see is Press Start for 1 Player and Mario jumping around. Am I doing this wrong?

    ReplyDelete
  91. I think it is exactly the case. There is no other reason why they would hold off on letting folks sign up early....

This works perfectly for WWE, there is no such thing as bad publicity and they launched at 9 am figuring they would have things in hand by the time Raw goes off the air...

    ReplyDelete
  92. Ive heard some folks did better using the App(yes, I'm being serious)....

    ReplyDelete
  93. All of the WCW PPV's are loaded and some of the ECW hardcore TV shows are up too

    ReplyDelete
  94. Its for one week but like everything else you need to put in your CC info and cancel after free week. But free week ends a week from today, so you dont get a free week if you sign up on Friday....

    ReplyDelete
  95. I feel a little bad that I can enjoy this at work and barely anyone else here can.

    ReplyDelete
  96. This thing is well worth the money from what I can see already....

    ReplyDelete
  97. I feel more lucky than bad....

    ReplyDelete
  98. I feel the pain of those missing out. This is pretty sweet

    ReplyDelete
  99. "Just $1.69 a minute but kids, get your parents' permission and call right now. We have hot scoops that you can't find anywhere else so call the Hotline right now!"
5 minutes later: "Folks, you're not going to believe this but this is such a big story that not even the Hotline has it. The Hotline has crashed thanks to an insane amount of demand. We'll have more information on this a little later on but in the meantime I'm going to burn down a few stogies with some 100 dollar bills. Let's get back to you, Tony".

    ReplyDelete
  100. Hey, I agree with that idea actually...

    ReplyDelete
  101. This WBF PPV is all kinds of awesome....

    ReplyDelete
  102. In. Watching WrestleMania 17 as we speak.

    ReplyDelete
  103. "you dont get a free week if you sign up on Friday...."

that.... is really fucking stupid on their part

    ReplyDelete
  104. Same here. I'm finally in but the lag is annoying.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Actually... If they didn't do that, everyone would just sign up 6 days before Wrestlemania. So WWE was smart there.

    ReplyDelete
  106. i agree they dont want the free trial to be during WM, but they could have offered a one week free trial up through the middle of march, for example. a lot of people honestly might not be able to get to signing up till closer till the end of the week

    ReplyDelete
  107. Nah, I think it will get easier by days end. I think they were smart to make it only the first week...

    ReplyDelete
  108. I hope we'll eventually get all the Raws/Smackdowns/Nitros/Superstars/whatever to see the build up to each of these ppvs.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Anyone try the PayPal route with more success?

    ReplyDelete
  110. Also yay for no more blurring.

    ReplyDelete
  111. prediction for # of signups before day's end?

also, will wwe have a "did you know" tonight on raw about # of sign ups?

how often will the "did you know" be "the network has X number of subscribers to date!"?

    ReplyDelete
  112. Did anyone else NOT get the Network? I feel like the kid that didn't get the new game console for X-mas.

    ReplyDelete
  113. no, i mean some people might actually not be able to fit it into their schedule. not everyone's life revolves around the network

    ReplyDelete
  114. Then I guess they won't mind missing a few days. You snooze, you lose!!

    ReplyDelete
  115. Considering the problems they're having? They'll have 50,000 people signed up by the end of the day. A vast majority of people will just try again tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  116. in case i have trouble using my credit card when i do sign, someone give me their card #

ya know, just in case i need to try another one....

    ReplyDelete
  117. Yeah same here. Trying to watch Capital Combat but I can't even get through the first match intros.

    ReplyDelete
  118. You know, there used to just be 5,627 reasons it sucks tonight's megasuperhuge Raw is in Green Bay, and after last night's PPV, there's now 5,628 - a chant needs a few audiences to do it in a row for it to catch on, and there's no way GB's gonna be cool enough to pick up the BOOTISTA chant, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  119. I first thought "The Cena/R-Truth PPV is an odd one to start with."

    ReplyDelete
  120. So, it has been three hours now, and most people still can't get through the billing process. This isn't a matter of "so many people signing up at once!" anymore. This is a matter of "crap, our billing infrastructure is BONED".

    ReplyDelete
  121. Does anyone remember when HBO crashed in 1983 because too many people were trying to subscribe to it at once before their premiere of "Star Wars"? ....oh wait, that didn't happen?

    ReplyDelete
  122. That's odd. Lag has so far been nonexistent for me.

    ReplyDelete
  123. I was able to solve my earlier problem by just buying a gift subscription for myself.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Question: Does anyone know how the billing works? I know you're locked in for six months. Do you get billed for the six months up front or is it ten bucks per month?

Thinking about picking this up when I get home from work.

    ReplyDelete
  125. It's ten bucks per month during a six month cycle.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Seems like you're billed $10 monthly.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Tried to watch Super Brawl 3 on my iPad and it kept buffering, so I quit. Maybe I'll switch to my laptop when I get back from lunch.

    ReplyDelete
  128. They just put up two episodes of RAW from 1998. When Austin confronted Tyson and when Austin came in on the zamboni

    ReplyDelete
  129. I got as far as the page sending me to PayPal and then it crashed and burned again. Repeat about 8 times, and now I can't even get the billing page to load.

    ReplyDelete
  130. That's just the usual Disqus incompetence. Funny how the comments section never had any screw-ups when this was a WordPress site.

    ReplyDelete
  131. WWE Network has not crashed, it is in abeyance.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Are my comments winding up in the spam filter?

    ReplyDelete
  133. It's all Obama's fault. Look what happened with Obama Care!

(Who's willing to bet WWE uses a Did You Know, saying the WWE Network rollout was easier and better planned than Obama Care?)

    ReplyDelete
  134. TunneyCare.

    Furthermore. Yes. We. Can.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Gave it a few hours and came back to try again. Still nothing. I see a pending charge on my bank's website, but I never received a confirmation and I'm unable to log in. Hmm.. I'm sure this will all get sorted out at some point.

    ReplyDelete
  136. No, there are plenty of us not interested in spending money on things we've already seen a hundred times (and are still available for free online and always will be)

The "Network" is a bit of a joke.

    ReplyDelete
  137. The reason you weren't able to pre order was.........?

    ReplyDelete
  138. The WWE network is not available on NES.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Preorder wasn't ready for a main event push just yet.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Personally, I don't get why they removed so much WCW music over the years considering that nearly all of that music is pretty much public domain stuff that's been heard in a million other places (SportsCenter especially). I highly doubt they're going to get sued or charged more than $20 if they keep Lex Luger's original badass music intact since it was performed by a random nameless musician who probably thought he was doing the track for a softcore porn movie.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Preorder wasn't best for business.

    ReplyDelete
  142. tried Survivor Series 2013 and Starrcade 97. The Survivor Series looked pretty bad. Triple H and Chyna Jr's clothes were pretty blurred looking. Both shows had the wrong framerate like WWE Classic's used to. I'm using a Roku 3. Doesn't matter if it's set to 720 or 1080.

    ReplyDelete
  143. With all of the refreshing I am doing, I feel like I am really contributing to their bullshit page hits numbers that they'll produce for next week's Did You Know?

    ReplyDelete
  144. There's nothing currently in the spam filter.

    ReplyDelete
  145. WCW's mindset in 2001: "We may be losing money hand over fist but dammit we're still going to pay Buffer his $6,000 per show asking price to announce one freaking match, nevermind that we have Dave Penzer on the payroll for $500 a show and he could do the same job a hell of a lot better."

    ReplyDelete
  146. If he comes back with white tape around his wrists, welp

    ReplyDelete
  147. ULTIMATE THREADJACK: While you're waiting to get through this horrible, torturous sign up process, got to Netflix and watch The Christmas Bounty starring The Miz, just added today. I'm hoping that you will all be grateful.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Well, there are no unedited versions of The Big Lebowski available up there so it stands to reason the Network wouldn't be available either.

    ReplyDelete
  149. 30 minutes into WM17 (Kane vs. Raven vs. Big Show) and so far no issues yet.

    ReplyDelete
  150. I have read this here on the blog before JR posted it (I wasn't even aware that he did until now).

    ReplyDelete
  151. I thought it was the December '98 UK PPV... then I remembered it was a WCW show.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Weird. For a while, they weren't showing up bit now they are. Maybe Disqus is jealous that I m able to view the network?

    ReplyDelete
  153. unfortunately Disqus won't let me downvote posts like this anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  154. I literally did not know Green Bay had an arena until I read your comment.

This is the best possible place for the WWE to have Hogan & the Undertaker come back, in a place that probably still thinks it's 1994.

    ReplyDelete
  155. tried to pay once with PayPal, once with my card. No luck, and there's a "media error" right away on the main page.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Then those people do not deserve a free trial.

    ReplyDelete
  157. If they showcase Francia Raisa's ass, then it is a must see

    ReplyDelete
  158. There's a reason why the launch was timed at 9am, just in time for sites to pick up on the issues and get the WWE a bunch "look at all the traffic!" articles.

If they launched after Raw, it would still be a thing on Twitter but there wouldn't be any mainstream blogs paying attention.

Although this is predicated on the issues being fixed in a short amount of time...if it's Wednesday and people are still have problems, that's not really ideal for a free trial.

Little surprised they didn't do the free trial for one month, like Netflix, get people right up to the week before WrestleMania.

    ReplyDelete
  159. You view the network on the app and quote frankly, it works great

    ReplyDelete
  160. That lag could be on your end.

Or, A LOT of people are watching are watching X-7.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Harold Ramis died.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  163. So were Keller's wonderings right about chairshots to the head?

    ReplyDelete
  164. nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

and just when it looked like ghostbusters 3 was on the horizon

    RIP Egon :(

    ReplyDelete
  165. Nope. Chairshots, blood, Benoit, everything's left in.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Blood, Benoit, brain scrambling...how about bleepable language?

    ReplyDelete
  167. Vince suddenly is filled with regret for those Obamacare jokes he fed through the headsets. HAHAHA, nope.

    ReplyDelete
  168. How about Bret "The Hitman" Clark?

    ReplyDelete
  169. Seriously. It's just not WCW without "Basketball Highlights #17" damn it.

    ReplyDelete
  170. I haven't heard anything necessitating a bleeping but I don't think it'll be the case since nothing else has been censored yet.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Someone check that PPV where Miss Kitty took her top off briefly. I think that was another one that was a question mark. Anyone check out Over the Edge yet?

Still can't even get in here... total wasted morning! Have to go to work in an hour or so.

    ReplyDelete
  172. So what does the disclaimer read?

    ReplyDelete
  173. Ah, Armageddon 99.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Very very cool. I figure the ECW section is the place to test for bleepable language, lol, you don't have to wait a while for Austin to cut a promo if you go to the Monday Night Wars section, you know?

    ReplyDelete
  179. It looks like if you have an Apple TV you can sign up there via iTunes for a one-time $59.99 fee for a six month subscription. If this isn't working by tonight, I'll be doing that and Apple will be getting a cut of my money.

    ReplyDelete
  180. Philip Bailey must be SO pissed. Phil Collins, not so much.

    ReplyDelete
  181. Same here. The CC info portion keeps crashing.

    ReplyDelete
  182. Maybe the buffering issues are just with the PPVs. I'm watching ECW TV just fine but I gave up on watching Captial Combat.

    ReplyDelete
  183. Just tried to sign up and am getting 404 errors.

"SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!"

    ReplyDelete
  184. Been trying for a few hours now with no luck. They should've let people sign up in advance.

    ReplyDelete
  185. If it helps anyone I'm currently watching Benoit/Angle and so far nothing has been censored, bleeped or anything. No random crowd shots when Benoit is on offense, no commentary cut, nothing so far.

  186. It also seemed to indicate that the 6 month commitment is ongoing, so when your 6 months are up, it doesn't switch to month-to-month. You'd have another 6 month lock-in at that time. I may be incorrect on that, but that's the impression I got when I signed up this morning.

Well, it depends whether they're fighting off 200,000 people trying to sign up, or 10,000 people trying to sign up.
