WWE Network Updates in Real Time?

I'm watching Superbrawl 1997 and just noticed that little blips along the progress bar. Hovering over them reveals important points during the course of the. The start and end of each match. That's a nice touch.

These weren't present the first time I tried to watch the show just 15 minutes before.

My only complaint with the video archive is the freezing, which could easily be resolved by allowing things to load as they do on Youtube.  It seems to load ten seconds of video every five seconds, which is more complicated than it needs to be.

It's obviously a work-in-progress and they seem to be using us as their beta testers, which kind of sucks for obvious reasons because they should have just done, you know, BETA TESTING.  However, as much as I wish they were a bit more transparent with the issues and fixes, it's WWE so you get what you get and you don't get upset.  Last night I was able to watch the live stream on PS3 without an issue, and I even started the Countdown show from the beginning and then accidentally exited out and had to fast-forward through the archived version to catch up again.  And it worked BEAUTIFULLY!  So then I tried to watch the 1981 MSG show and I guess that was pressing my luck because it froze up at the 1:30 mark and never recovered.

But yeah, if they'd set up a feedback site with status updates and stuff, I think there would be a lot more good will towards them.  But that's not how they roll.

  1. Ahem.....Deal with it!

  2. Makes me glad that I don't have the Network at this moment.

  3. Sad seeing Scott rationalize being treated like crap.

The battered wife only sticks around because the jerk that's abusing her is nice some of the time.

  4. Worked fine on my computer yesterday now today it just keeps taking me to a "Get the App" page when I go to network.wwe.com and then all i can do is click on purchase which takes me to the ordering page. From there if I click on already subscribed? Sign In link it takes me back to that "Get the App" page. This is on my laptop using Chrome.

  5. For the record, I signed up for the free trial on Monday, and I have yet to be able to watch anything on my computer or ipad, because it thinks I'm in a foreign country and is blocking the videos. (I'm in Wisconsin.) I'm working with WWE to resolve the problem.

  6. It's working better on my iOS devices this morning. The archived shows are loading quickly and I'm able to skip ahead. I'll test it out more a little later, but this is encouraging.

Oh, and I watched the first two matches of WCW's last PPV, Greed, last night, before it froze up. Damn good show so far.

  7. WWE thinks they have an infinite amount of goodwill with fans to do whatever they want. I'm not committing to the network until they fix their issues.

  8. Apple TV is working MUCH better. Live stream is great, just watched the 2nd Raw from 1993 and just started IYH: Final Four and it started up perfectly. Step in the right direction.

  9. I've said this already but why are we getting repeats of everything on the live shows? Survivor Series 2012 is on today at 11 am, and then again at 4 pm. It's a show we can watch on demand ... why is it on twice within a five-hour period?!?!

    ReplyDelete
  10. That is ridiculous even by your standards.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Couple reasons... not everybody can watch all day, so it airs for two different crowds. Also, probably a west coast feed type thing. Pretty standard when networks launch that they cycle the programming day. I think the lineup will grow once they sort out tech issues and get the nightly live show going and all that.

  12. Look at Scott's post above. He couldn't watch what he wanted to watch but he's all like, eh it works 75% of the time!

That's the beauty of having a monopoly if you're the WWE - you don't need goodwill. You just need people that want their wrestling fix and you're the only game in town.

  13. Survivor series 88 working better than yesterday still some lagging and freezing but I did get demolitions theme music so that's awesome

    ReplyDelete
  14. Even with the bugs, the Network gives us a better option than what was available before, and I imagine all the bugs will be taken care of within the next couple of weeks. I'm already seeing a huge jump day-to-day.

It is a bit annoying that they're having so many problems week 1, but I don't think anyone expected otherwise. This is about par for what I expected, and I'm not upset with what I have for $10.

  15. I'm happy they kept, IMO, Ric Flair's superior 1991-1993 WWF theme song during WrestleMania VIII on VOD...

    ReplyDelete
  16. I just let Survivor Series 1995 play on my iPhone to see how long it took to froze. It froze up momentarily and then totally froze at around the 50 minute mark. It is definitely getting better.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Your last point is my point exactly. With EVERYTHING they can show, they show the same PPV within five hours of itself? If you missed Survivor Series 2012 when it aired in the live stream, you can just watch it on demand. Why not show something else?

PS: Love the Podcast and I'm about to fire up the latest episode. Keep up the great work.

  18. What is he rationalizing, would you say? He is happy with what he's getting and understanding that there are bugs in the first week, which happens a lot with things on the Interwebz.

If by March 1, the On Demand aspect is still having trouble, then we may have some problems. But the live stream has worked every time I've tried it, so I'm not worried about WrestleMania.

  19. I'm able to time skip now. Much improved.

  20. Those people who bought WM1 were the ultimate beta-testers. That WM didn't even have a WWF title match!

    ReplyDelete
  21. still just completely missing tons of content on the roku player, but what's there works mostly better

of course as i typed that sentence i got an unexpected error message

    ReplyDelete
  22. I was going to remark the same. The fact that the live stream seems to be working pretty flawlessly (I'm yet to have an issue with it) is actually a very promising sign. If it works perfectly during WrestleMania, then the $60 just pretty much spent itself.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yeah you aren't wrong, I just think that is the rationale. NBA, NFL and MLB network were similar in their infancy, I believe things will change as the weeks go on.

Thanks!! Glad you enjoy the show and appreciate the support.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yeah I love that version too

    ReplyDelete
  25. I am now able to watch things flawlessly on my laptop...ECW for example...watched an episode...bookmarks worked (I am puzzled on why they spoil the endings of matches though)...great quality, not skipping or buffering...

    Working well...

    ReplyDelete
  26. It's not just WWE using customers to beta-test. It's a lot of software companies.

That's the major reason I didn't get the network. I assumed I would be part of beta testing, and I didn't want to deal with that.

  27. I've been trying to watch the 2010 Rumble match since last night. I gave up after a while yesterday but just started trying again a little bit ago. It's a lot better but still stutters pretty badly here and there.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm more annoyed by the constant repeats of the same episode of WrestleMania Rewind. You would think with On Demand availability (coming next year!), there would be fewer repeats, not more. Why not just air a different episode or just have a different show in that slot altogether (Gorilla and Bobby Prime Time Wrestling, I'm looking at you).
Hell, it's Wednesday, just throw in some episodes of Thunder and Main Event.
With the constant repeats, you would think this was the wrestling version of The Movie Channel circa 1982 (back when they only aired 30 movies a month and they were all repeated ad nauseum) instead of being the wrestling version of The Movie Channel circa 1993 (back when that channel hardly ever repeated anything and thus was the greatest creation since sliced bread).

  29. They really do need to invest an extra couple of million and hook up with the people behind HBO GO considering that HBO GO has a proven track record to not fuck up and all. Plus, they have 26 million subscribers, so clearly they can handle 250,000 or so WWE Network subscribers (and WWE probably would have gotten a hell of a lot more had it not been for all of the screw-ups).

Still nothing but the buffering icon. It did appear to actual attempt to load this time, but some troubleshooting steps would be nice at this point. I'm sure they actually tested this, right? I've tinkered a lot but nothing works.

    ReplyDelete
  31. This is pretty much like getting an accountant who's never done auto repair work before to work on your car when Jay Leno is right down the block.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Give it time people, if I had to guess WWE Network had an INSANE number of sign ups, higher than they expected.

Think how many of us bought it that haven't ordered a PPV in a year or two.

Extrapolate that over other hardcore wrestling fans that aren't here.

  33. ARRRRGH THE BARBARIANFebruary 26, 2014 at 11:18 AM

It's not that it's not working, it's the lack of info. What do I need running, what can't I have running, etc. They've HAD to have tested this kind of stuff.

  34. ARRRRGH THE BARBARIANFebruary 26, 2014 at 11:25 AM

I mean seriously, their how to video is the Bellas telling you to use a current web browser. lol

    ReplyDelete
  35. That's a good point, but what is "insane" number? I have a hard time thinking more than a million people are hitting the servers for this thing.

  36. ARRRRGH THE BARBARIANFebruary 26, 2014 at 11:53 AM

I fixed it. Downloaded a blank copy of Chrome, no imported settings, no changes, no anything, and it works perfectly fine and I can even fast forward. Of course that's probably not the most secure thing in the world to do, but it works. So if you're having problems on a CPU, just get a new browser and don't do *anything* to it.

  37. Issues with the network, or the company as a whole?

    ReplyDelete
  38. The Nitro from the next night (the last one) is really good too.

Yeah I usually avoid things like this off the bat because theyll need a few rounds to iron things out.

  40. Jay Leno uses a 3D printer to make his own parts. He's hardcore!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Arguably the worst Wrestlemania of all time.

    ReplyDelete
  42. The progress bar is good and bad (bad being the spoilers). Royal Rumble 2013 has a couple of errors though, including "Albert Del Rio", and the hilarious "Damian Sandow wins with the No Lock". Wow.
